Probably your best bet. Generally, if you can get to boot loader and recovery, you aren't too bad off.

You should read the downgrade thread again... You MUST change th cid before flashing the pg86img... I had the same problem when I done it...
Or you can get the 2.17 stock ruu and run it to get back to stock and start over...

Try the stock 2.17 ruu.exe... Not PG86IMG, then start over... The stock signed PG86IMG.zip might work, but I had to use ruu... Once you get your phone back to 2.17 stock, unlock, change cid, relock, and go from there...

Downloading the stock zip now...So that means, even in future if i have to revert back to stock from custom rom or whenever i am stuck at htc splash screen i just use the stock PG86IMG.zip and go to the bootloader and update? Right? Or is the goldcard required for s-on and s-off both?

Are you already rooted? s-off or s-on? If you are rooted, just flash a 2.17 rom, nothing will happen to your root or hboot.

Nothing will happen, other than you will be running that rom after you flash it.

ok... IF you are rooted and have an unlocked bootloader the first thing you need to do is download the stock rom and install it to the ROOT of your sdcard under the name PG86IMG.zip the reboot into your hboot screen, done by holding the volume down button and then the power button...it will start to load this new file... follow the prompts to allow it it to install fully... then frokm there let it boot up once.... then shut it down and reboot into your hboot again then relock your bootloader via the fastboot methid and then reboot again... from there you can update fully to HTC's roms and updates and then redo the procedure of unlocking your boot loader and then installing superuser....any other questions feel free to ask ill be up for awhile tonight....

Since you are s-on just lock your bootloader If you are unlocked , and use the latest 2.17 RUU.exe....then unlock again...and root it.
the reason i gave a list of thiungs to do is bc i dont have my hands on your phone... you stated you have s-on... you should if you have 1.5 bc you cant turn that off... above that though your phone should say *unlocked* you need to set it back to say *relocked*
and you mus also make sure the recovery you have is the factory one... if you have twrp or clockmod for a recovery you will end up erroring out when the phone reboots and tries to install it... and if that happens youll end up having to flash the rest to get it to boot again

but where does this recovery step fall into place? after i have successfully done everything in the first quote?
do i put the custom recovery on first? or is that what running the stock ruu does?
and just so i dont download the wrong one can you provide me a link for the correct ruu?

This has them all, but These are STOCK roms without root, they do not contain super user or busybox or anything, so you will lose root, you shouldn't have to re-lock to update though... it should just let you update it, this is going to wipe out whatever your current rom is.
You probably want something more like an already rooted rom though...

id use the one thats 2.08.651.3 .... have to take into account that the most recent one that *I* have for the evo 3d through sprint is version 2.17.651.5
I've been doing this **** for well over 2 yrs now and im either having a serious brain fart of perhaps this hasn't been entirely, exactly discussed yet .... I have googled til the cows come home and can't find an answer.
Im on hboot 1.50 with S-on bootloader is unlocked through HTC Dev
I want to flash the new i.c.s. PG86IMG.zip that Freeza (the one without the new 1.57 hboot) just put out to go along with the ICS ruu that Virtuous has put out however I know that I cannot just put the pg86img on my sd card and flash it by holding down the - volume button and power through bootloader....
MUST i relock my bootloader, ruu it back to stock and then go about it doing that way OR is there a way that I can use commands to flash the PG86IMG.zip file?????
Help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I just relocked my bootloader, RUU'd it back so now I have a relocked bootloader, with hboot 1.50 S-on and when I take my battery out, put it back in- hold down vol down while pressing power....then it scans and finds the pg86img.zip but it does not offer me a chance to install the pg86img I'd REALLY appreciate some input here. I was too lazy/tired to downgrade so I just wiped and flashed just to see what would happen and it worked. After it booted, it was stuck on the HTC setup so I pulled the battery and rebooted it. I'm on Hboot 1.50 with S-ON.
I cannot for the life of me get the PG86IMG.zip file flashed.... i've PM'd a few different dev's but heard nothing back yet.
Man you should have atleast unlocked your bootloader first see if you can boot in to boatloader and fastboot USB if so then you can correct the problem

Did you check the sticky and find football thread and you will need to download the the original ruu or close to it and you may get lucky and find one that will give you hboot 1.4 if this is what your after

And since your s on you will need to unlock your bootloader and then flash revolutionary version of cwm and then flash a Rom like lee droid that way you will rooted but you will still have s on this is where you should have started in the beginning

This is such an annoying issue. I can run an ruu.exe such as RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00.1216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304_signed_2.exe and go back to stock without any problems, I can unlock my bootloader, I can "root" the phone, even though I am on hboot 1.50 with S-ON the problem is no matter how many ways I try to flash
PG86IMG_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.13.652.1_Radio_1.06.00.0426_NV_1.53_144_release_259069_signed.zip that Football sent me, I cannot get it install it after it scans and finds it -renamed to PG86IMG (.zip) it always goes back to hboot and says:
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.

Depending upon which DEV i've spoken to, i've been told to try this that and the other and lol nothing works. I dont get it. I've been told to go back entirely to stock unrooted; that didn't work. Been told to root it, that didn't work.
I never had any problems flashing roms using htc dumlock but the problem is, the file I am trying to flash is not one that can be flashed through CWM/TWRP, only by being renamed PG86IMG and being started through hboot.
any other suggestions? hell i'll try em all!

With HTC unlock, you cant flash radios (freeza's zip) & splash screens that are part of those custom PG86IMG zips. The only way to flash an Ruu is to have stock recovery/relocked and to flash the same or newer fw version (2.08, 2.17, etc).
I'm not 100% sure but the ics leak version is 1.13 which may not pass the version check.
I've read some posts that indicate an hboot 1.4 downgrade for S-off is required as things sit right now. Definitely changing daily though.

To further reiterate, S-ON means you do not have permissions to certain partition of the phone to flash radios, or flash kernels/roms without the 1.5 fastboot workarounds. The firmware freeza has, requires access to that certain partition. So without s-off (1.4) you cannot flash the firmware/radio for ICS.
HI. I have a big problem... I tried flashing an OTA file with CWM recovery, and now I get to the HTC white screen with no Quitely brillant below
My hboot is unlocked and I am s-on
I could probable y access fastboot, though I cannot tell right now I cannot use it on the computer I have, but if I access fastboot I have the regular options, and the buttons works. if I choose recovey , I see a android CWM and a small bue progress bar and it reboots back to "Normal" wich is being the white HTC screen right now
I am able to access Hboot which makes me think that I can probably get out of this by flashing back my original RUU.
Pleasae tell me that i am right:

no, the bootloader needs to be locked to flash any ruu file
Dude flash stock recovery relock boot loader then flash the RUU most recent one. And if your gonna unlock boot again and flash another custom recovery us 4ext its the best one in my opinion a lot of options very simple nice user interface no troubles as of yet. Plus it basically like having S-Off cause of smart flash it flashes kernels together with rom. Its 3.00$ on market or you can get it for free from internet or other apps. My phone started acting wierd, so I reset it to factory and now I can't install any ROMS at all!
I had/have S-OFF but somehow I locked myself.

You wont be able to flash custom roms on fastboot and u cant flash recovery because ur bootloader is locked you kust somehow reflash the bootloader or get it unlocked.

Well u probably flashed an ics ruu which had bootloader update in it so it locked it. U can flash recovery.img trough adb .

Once I use that file, then I can what? Just rename CARBON-JB-UNOFFICIAL-20130513-143602-shooteru.zip to PG86IMG.zip in the root of my SD card and then it will work? Or do I have to do something else? If so, what? It's late and I'm getting foggy. Wanted to get this up and running for morning use.

I see you have 1.40 hboot. If I remember correctly, the locked/unlocked status was introduced with the 1.50 hboot update. If you are looking to root and/or get s-off, then you are in luck. Revolutionary works with hboot 1.40. So I don't think you would even need to do the HTC Dev unlock.

Thnx Friends will try and revert......my phone is not booting completely after the sprint splash screen and that after evo 3d and then completely black and the bottom LED gets on and the screen is black....
I've Tried these below mentioned two of the RUU's but they are also not working please suggest what to do next....

Sir,
it got installed successfully but the problem is still same that after the splash screen of Sprint 3D the screen remains black blank and the LED remains on .....please guide what to do if i am doing any process wrong i've tried both the ways running the RUU through computer and via SD card but from SD card it won't run just after checking the image file it remains on the bootloader screen and if i try to run recovery option then it ended up in the black screen with a Red Triangle with a Exclamation mark in it.
Please Guide what to do next

no sir, when i installs it from computer by running the RUU it doesn't reflect any error with version 1.13
Are you using PG86IMG.zip to flash from sdcard?
