We'll guys its been fun.. - HTC Amaze 4G

Well guys ... I am saying buh bye to T-Mobile. After loyalty dept. Told me to pound sand, I decided I had enough.
I am going to miss this forum you guys are a great bunch, not just phone stuff but personality wise. I can't believe it was cheaper for me to buy the one x , and pay my cancellation fee to T-Mobile, and... and get a better and cheaper plan.
T-Mobile has been really going down hill, with customer service ( YEAH I KNOW I heard ma bell is one of the worst) and I just don't understand why T-Mobile treats new customers better than am OG, like me. To the T-Mobile rep I pm'd here thanks for replying and being cool.
Well.... one x forums here I come. Lol.

good luck , you dont have to LEAVE these forums you could always come and see progress

you could always unlock your Amaze before ya ditch t-mo altogether, that way you can still use it alongside your One X, just need a micro sim adapter
Edit: well, you can use it without internet, LTE plans don't play nice with non-LTE phones

He can still use it unless it is an LTE only sim which I doubt actually. I can unlock it for ya so you can use it on AT&T and use their HSPA+ network!

no its not that, its some shenenigans within AT&T's system, an LTE device can't access the internet unless you have their LTE data plan, even the HSPA+ network, I'm guessing it doesn't work the other way around as well, I know from experience how back asswards AT&T's system can be when setting up a phone
P.S: where were you when I was unlocking my Amaze? would have saved me some headaches working with T-Mobile

Im curious what you asked for from them. I been a customer for 5 years and they just gave me a 250 credit on my bill for the Amaze and this months bill. I've never had a problem with the customer service. Im curious how your paying less with ATT, which I am assuming you jumped to because of the one X

Have fun paying more for service.

Im actually going to be saving a few dollars!
The only thing im losing is my grandfathered unlimited data, .... but I have never exceed 3 gb ever so ... its actually a decent plan.
And I like the rollover minutes thing.
And i do a lot of camping and T-Mobile has ALWAYS been a fail for me. But my friends who not only have iphonies(only saying cuz I thought iphonies had crappy reception) and with AT&T ... almost always have signals.
We will see. T-Mobile is funny..
.when I called and told them to cancel, my acct, and told them I was offered the one s , but said I hate penile displays and the storage was to small
You know what the rep said???
Well, sir, ill tell you what, I can offer the one s practically free for you..
I almost went into rage mode...lmao.
I think what's really happening is this is the age of the downward spiral of customer service. Its not just T-Mobile/AT&T. Its everywhere.

Sorry to hear that. T-Mobile totally stuck their neck out to me last year. I went to Calgary and didn't turn off my data roaming. I even got a text as soon as I hit the border, telling me full well that the data rates are HIGH. I tried my best and minimized it's use. Well, I got home to a $850 bill. After talking to a few people, getting on my knees and begging forgiveness, they took 100% of the charges off.
I thought that was INCREDIBLE customer service. Who else would forgive $850 worth of data roaming charges???????

The one x is such a small upgrade from the amaze what's the point in switching? I think with the amaze having a leak for ics there really seems to be no point in getting another device for very close specs. Just my two cents only device on the horizon worth waiting for would be the galaxy s3

Can you go into a little more detail? I'm not sure what you raged about.
They offered you a phone?
I'm not sure why you experience was so bad.
We've had t-mo for something like 7 years.
I called the loyalty department and asked what they could do for me, and they gave me a $250 credit to cover the cost of the amaze, and dropped our plan price $80/mo

+1 i love tmobile.. great plans, great customer support (even though im on prepaid i get good support). they are the best gsm you can get in the US imo. id rather have verizon but i dont have the money, and they dont really have that great of phones.

Yeah today I called in for something on my account and when the rep said if there was anything I was unhappy about I just said I sometimes get one bar to none of service at home which in reality I get 1-2 bars. They quickly transferred me to the signal booster program and even gave me 250 credit. So now I should be getting full bars within the next couple days and not make a payment for at least two months! Also isn't the warranty program through t-mobile cheaper in replacing phones, and the add on features as well.
After the att break up t-mobile is actually going back up in the competition and they are starting by improving customer service. It's sad you left right at the turning point specially for a phone that is not that much better than the amaze. I wish you luck.

[Q] anyone looking

to jump ship when AT&T takes over? I know I don't want to stay, looking to find out about cancelling the contract once the deal goes through (fingers crossed it won't)....
I don't remember exactly, but I remember hearing Cingular customers were pretty much treated like dirt when AT&T took them over, so I'm definitely looking at alternatives. Problem is that I don't think I can ever go back to CDMA... so I may be stuck with AT&T... argh! This sucks!

you should read this:

Our plans won't be changed until our contracts for 2 years are over.
Then you can jump
Come on folks. Just enjoy the phone you've come to love for as long as possible before you consider jumping ship. For all we know it might turn out ok. Gonna be a better device and some great deals when we have to make a decision. Hang in there.

Uhm, this is about carriers not phones.
Unless if your going to Verizon.. then you can just swap sim cards after unlocking...
I'm more concerned about carriers, service and cost. I don't want to go backwards to CDMA, but Verizon speeds are proven to be better than AT&T in large markets, their customer service is known to be substandard, and they're heavy into data caps from what I've read. Doesn't look good in any case. I thought the government broke them up years ago to prevent this exact kind of things from happening. What happened to competition. I've come to love Magenta for the things that the others aren't, out of the box, price competitive and excellent with customer service. Gotta start thinking though about the future.....
I'm a little concerned about this...
T-Mobile gets crap coverage where I am (EDGE Network only) until I get over to the big city (about 30 miles east) and then I jump straight to 4G. AT&T gets better service, but once my contract is up I'll have to start paying AT&T rates, correct? That's my only real concern. The whole reason I went T-Mobile was because they had the cheapest rates for data...
Guess I'll just have to go back to CDMA when my contract expires...sigh...

[Q] Not available til JUNE with Orange!!

I just spoke to Orange upgrades, and after being fobbed off all week they were finally able to tell me that the Galaxy S2 won't be available with them til start of June, as they do extra testing on the devices that other companies don't!
I now have a bit of a dilemma as I would rather stay with Orange directly as they should be able to offer me a good contract to stay with them, but I could go to Phones 4 u or even switch to O2 and get the phone now!
Anyone else in this situation, or have any advice?!
You can get it on orange via phones4u - even as an upgrade.
Sent from my Galaxy S II using XDA App
Well that's ridiculous, by "extra testing" they probably mean "figure out how to slow the device to an absolute crawl with bloatware that no one wants"
I was told that too. I ended up cancelling my contract and taking a new one out with Phones4u whose phones are unlocked and free from bloatware.
Got a better deal than Orange could offer me too.

Get it off the net!
For £25.53/m (tmob - 24m), 600mins, 500texts, 1GB, Phone price is:
£29.99 on't net
£149.99 in store
You decide which one you want
I second this, it's exactly what I did. The phone is great but what amazes me more is the amount of time my battery lasts on my HTC Hero now it's been left alone in the shadows of my GS2. It's on its 4th day without charge!

Tmobile gives me the second best signal at home and work, the first best being 3. The only thing is, if you buy tmobile via a 3rd party then your data speeds are throttled at 350kbps and you have to pay an extra £5/month to get their full 1.8mbps(i believe 1.8mb is their max). So im waiting till tmobile stock the SGS2 to see what deal theyll give me... a load of crap i bet. Tmobile are crap when it comes to giving the customer a good deal! Good network but bad deals
I wish they spent all that extra time trying to improve their reception.
Phones4u is your best bet mate, though last I heard they were out of stock for online orders.

my t-mobile contract is through e2save and i can tell u now it isnt throttled.
T-mobile and Orange can share networks, so if your t-mobile, you can use the orange network to get better signal and it works the other way too, im orange and with this im very very rarely without signal
The signal sharing is only on 2g. Data connections are still separate.
I would have moved to Orange if data was shared too, it would have been perfect.
Edit: I know the discussion was mainly on call reception, but I thought it worth mentioning that it's not a fully-shared deal. Hopefully that will change.

Pretty much what they tried to push me into getting today. In fact, even after picking up their sheet of paper with all the contracts on and actually pointing out the ones that I was after they kept trying to push for the above with comments like "Yeah, but we're saving you money this way and you can downgrade next year..."
Just not interested in the hassle of juggling my number though.

Got my Amaze for ~ $130, no rebate

I called T-Mobile and asked for retentions and told them I needed a good deal on the Amaze without a rebate. They gave it to me for ~ $250 w/ tax, no rebate, waived shipping charges, and gave me a $120 statement credit (about one month of service on my family plan). It pays to ask!
They also told me I could keep my $25/mo 5GB 3G data plan, but I see on the website that I now have the $30 data plan. I'll complain but I doubt I'll get very far on that one...
I'm really excited about replacing my N1!
Wow. That is a good deal.
T-mobile retention, I better write a note about it for my 2013 renewal
I'm a former employee. Here's a trick. If you want to get a new phone and you've had T-Mobile for a long time, then do this. Call them and complain how your phone is a piece of sh*t and how it reboots itself and what not. Threaten to go to another carrier because their flagship phones kicks T-Mobile's phones ass and you don't mind paying the ETF (Early Termination Fee / Cancellation Fee). They'll transfer you to Customer Loyalty. Tell them your phone sucks and you will go to another carrier. They'll give you an awesome discount on the phone.

You don't have to be pissed off or have an issue with your phone, you are a benefit to the company and we are there to help you anyway we can, and don't be surprised if we can't beat deals from costco, walmart, wirefly a lot of times on single lines sometimes even just on family plans they have real good deals.

I honestly don't feel that it takes any tricks or lying and threats.
I've been with Tmobile for 7 years and I've upgrade plenty of phones either free or at a discount.
The only thing you need to do is be polite and be patient.
I've always found the reps willing to go the distance as long as I'm patient and as long as I have the nerve to ask.
Don't be afraid to ask for an upgrade.
Don't be afraid to ask for a different phone when you do a warranty exchange.
9 out of 10 times they won't make you an offer on their own.
And this leads people to believe that they should threaten to cancel or complain and throw a fit to get these deals the reps don't offer.
First off, that just makes you look childish.
And who knows if they make a note of that on your account or not?
I just ask them when I want something. If that rep can't help me they'll pass me along the CoC or I call back. No biggie.
Try it, give them a call and say
"Hey...so I just saw this new phone that I really want to get but I don't qualify for an upgrade yet...is there anything you guys can do for me?"
I have four voice lines and a MBB line. I've never had an issue getting a (slightly) early upgrade or some kind of deal. I always treat CSRs the same way I like to be treated (kindly, with respect and patience). I've gotten really good deals with T-Mobile.
Wasn't me!! I didn't do it!

I love Sprint

Seen so many *****es about Sprint I thought I'd share.
Only company with unlimited data.
Only company with SERO (I have original SERO and SERO Premium).
Even without SERO my daughter and my sister both switched from Verizon and got very close to SERO Premium prices.
So I have one phone on SERO original that is qualified for upgrade.
And by wobbly EVO 3D (due to VM leak, at no fault of Sprints, just mine) that is not qualified for upgrade for some time on SERO Premium.
So I used the chat to ask if I could use Touch PRO 2 upgrade for an EVO 4G LTE to replace the EVO 3D.
She said yes. But I lose the return policy and any mail in rebate.
Turns out it's all instant Rebate.
Then I asked if I upgrade it on the Touch PRO 2 (online) will it force me to upgrade it's plan.
She said no.
I said I was worried it might change it.
And she came back and asked me if it was on SERO.
She knew exactly what I was worried about. I had not given them any account info.
It only changes the plan when you activate. And I will activate it on my EVO 3D line.
She also said if I did it in a store (I think because it's SERO) it would of upgraded the plan.
I forgot to save discussion. But they emailed it to me !!!
I did the online upgrade and it stated exactly what she said that the plan would not upgrade unless activated on that line. Very clearly layed.
It clearly showed no plan change.
Excellent service !!!
Not the fasted network. But good enough for my needs and doesn't break the bank.
And usually offers great phones.
A lot of times you here about the shortcomings of Sprint so its good to hear the opposite side of the coin sometimes. Glad to hear everything worked out for ya.

Glad you had a good experience with them, mine was unsatisfactory

its good to know everything worked out for you.. i wish i had that sorta of luck
So Sprint did what should be expected and that is commendable? Lol
Look at it this way, if it was T-Mobile, you would have just had to pop in the SIM card. No call (or chat), no activation, no concern for plan changes.
Not saying T-Mobile is great, just saying Sprint shouldn't be commended for doing the bare minimum.
You had a line due for an upgrade, they let you upgrade it, and use the phone on another line. Every carrier out there will do this, and most of them don't require any contact with their CS to make sure it's actually possible.

I truly miss this about gsm phones. Over the years I've collected so many gsm phones that friends usually come to me when they lose their phone, cuz I'd give them one to borrow. Just pop in a sim and it's good to go. This is my first cdma phone. God forbid I lose it, esp. at a time when I need to use a phone really bad or something.

Sprint SERO was the best plan ever! Wish Sprint had kept on with Sero and not let it go.
cool story bro
Yeah, too bad they no longer offer the SERO plans and have so many restrictions on them now. So you have an EVO on a SERO Premium plan, not a plain vanilla SERO, right?
mcguireslaw dot com/2011/01/18/sero-premium-and-premium-data/
I guess that answers the question.
I've thought about doing this. My wife's account is eligible for an upgrade. She doesn't want to upgrade because she wants a phone with a physical keyboard (she has the Epic 4G).
Mine is not eligible, as I bought my 3D when it came out. Can I use my wife's upgrade to get the 4G LTE, and then activate the 4G LTE on my line? I mean, I assumed I could do that, and it sounds like you are saying it's possible, but I wasn't sure. Do I need to give Sprint some special instruction not to activate the phone when I order it? Do they automatically activate it when you buy it (before it gets to you?).
Also, I know it will reset the upgrade period for my wife's account, but it won't for my account, correct?
I don't see another phone with a physical keyboard on the horizon, so I don't feel so bad in taking my wife's upgrade, heh.

Yes, that's exactly what I did.
No special instructions needed you can do it yourself online.
BUT... you might want to read the news on the 4G LTE. Sprint is no longer accepting pre orders and I suspect prior orders might get canceled. No fault of Sprints.

Some people sell their SERO plans. Or, if you know someone with SERO, you can add a line to theirs and get I think you can break it off to be your own. I'm still on SERO P, myself.

Who cares.......
seriously, cool story bro.
not.
saying u like sprint because of sero is absolutely useless to the vast majority of sprint subscribers because its not available - not to mention, the vast majority doesn't have the plan.
upgrades on a yearly basis are over with, even for those with huge monthly bills.
network sucks - whats the point of unlimited data when you can't use it?
anyways, glad you like em. I don't. Very unhappy and leaving for verizon soon as a decent quad core with a large screen drops over there.
good luck.

Enjoy your Verizon bills.
Data works fine for me with Sprint, not blazing but good enough, way better than any GSM provider. Calls do too. Verizon is better but not worth the price. Nor do I like how Verizon locks out features that Sprint phones provide.
A co-worker of mine has Verizon and he pays a fortune for his plan. His phone never ran any faster or more reliable than mine.
I have Verizon FIOS and every chance they get they try to rip me off. Oops sorry for the double billing, oops sorry we forgot to cancel that feature. I hate them.
I was excited because Sprint gave me a brand new $400.00 phone for $35 with no insurance and it was completely my fault.
They often do early upgrades where you don't have to wait 2 full years. And in this case they let me mix my upgrade options.
The only reason I mentioned SERO was because I was impressed the Sprint rep knew about it, why I was concerned I might lose it if I mixed and matched my upgrade options and that their flexibilty might be limited on a SERO plan. It was not the reason why I started this thread. SERO is just icing on the cake. And I'd have Sprint even if I didn't have SERO.

For most people your post will be non applicable.
1: Sprint has the slowest data of all the carriers in most areas (according to several independent national tests). If it's faster in your area, just know that you are a rare case and it will be different if you travel to almost any other area. My Sprint 3G is actually slower than dial up (and slower than T-Mobile's throttled data).
2: Sprint is basically the same price as Verizon or AT&T these days. It might be a few bucks cheaper, but nothing significant.
3: T-Mobile is cheaper than Sprint.
4: Sprint's early upgrade program is dead. I know they used to do this in the past, but they killed that program. Now it's 2 years to upgrade, or pay the etf and then you can upgrade early.

[Q] Unused Evo 4G LTE

I bought this phone in June because my original Evo 4G stopped working on me. After a month I decided I wanted to move on to Verizon as Sprint didn't/doesn't have LTE in my area.
I assumed I'd be able to sell the phone in order to pay my ETF. I read online that it was possible. I then contacted Sprint to see if this was true and they informed me that it was not and that if I would like to sell my device I'd have to pay my balance which has grown a bit since ending my contract.
All that being said, the point of this thread is that now I have a mint condition phone sitting in the box on my desk. (This is not a classified post)
My whole point is, what options do you think I have at this time? Sprint says I can't sell it without paying my huge balance, I've already purchased a GS3 on Verizon so I don't exactly need this thing. I hate to let it sit in it's box doing nothing as it is a very nice device... and I'm definitely not giving it away
What would you do with it?
The sad thing is, I'm always wishing the camera application on my GS3 was as awesome as the one on the Evo. I really like the Evo 4G LTE but I couldn't live with 3G anymore.
I can't use is as a PMP because my GS3 handles that duty just fine...
Don't mind my babbling rant/complaining :silly:
It's your phone, you can sell it whenever you want to. But if you owe money, then the esn number will be blacklisted and whoever buys it will not be able to activate it until the balance on your account is zero.
Sprint will not let anyone else activate the phone untill you settle your balance with them. You could sell the phone for what you owe on your sprint account and pay off Sprint. I don't know how much you owe Sprint but it could end up being a wash and least you won't have it affect your credit.
Yeah, that's what I meant. My balance is a bit more than I could sell the phone for and I'd be more than happy to pay the balance if I was able to sell the phone to help offset a huge chunk of it.
Have to sell it to someone who wants ro flash it to a prepaid service live metro pcs, bad esn doesnt matter to them companies

That's a good idea. I'm guessing selling a phone with a "bad ESN" will bring down the price a bit, eh?
How much do you think I should expect? As far as condition goes, it is flawless.

...too bad Android phones don't hold their market value like iPhones, haha.
Probably because ifans will pay anything to fit in/look cool. And everyone knows, Apple's the coolest, right? Lol
from my flying AOKP'd Evo LTE and xda premium
Why don't you pay what you owe and then sell a clear phone for what you can get.
Buy a cheap phone off craigslist and put it on your account. Then sell the LTE and pay off your account.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
By curiosity, how much were you looking to sell it for?
Activating another (cheap) phone is the way to go. It will clear your Evo from the account and the cheap phone becomes the one with a bad esn.....

you could sell your phone with your sprint contract you just wont get that much for the phone but will relieve you from your contract. thats is your best option. you could just get rid of the phone for like 50 to 100 dollars but they have to take the contract that remains on that phone.
