[Q] Hellraising ics roms - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I'm curious about trying some i9100 roms from hellraising. Before i do it though i would like to know some things first. I know the procedure from the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577015), but there are some things i'm not sure of after searching. For instance, from the package that needs to be zipped i know the zimage is a kernal, and the one in that post is Suck kernal. Can this kernal be replaced or can one be flashed afterwards such as newest entropy or siyah? I imagine they have to have mic swap such for siyah? not sure about entropy's.
Is there anything else that i should know that i will notice a difference from i897 roms?
P.S. Sorry if this should be posted in the hellraise thread but I feel like that should be for bugs and developement discussion.

I897? Sir thats a captivate. And yes u can place entropys latest kernel or siyah with micswap. Other thinfs u should know:
Fm radio doesnt work i would remove apk.
If u dont know how to do that i wouldn't try to release with out proper experience to mantain the port as it could lead to bricks.

[REQ] Siyah kernel port (dual boot)

Is this even possible without official kernel source? If so Siyah offers dual booting and alot of other features i would love to play with.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592228
there are many more threads on siyah you can find with the searchbar. It is available for the sii and skyrocket i believe, hopefully a port for the i717 is possible?
This would be very nice! Pretty sure we need to wait for source before they can work on the port.

rule #1 of flashing, DO NOT FLASH KERNELS FROM OTHER PHONES
clearly in the op he is asking for someone to build a kernel for the i717 based off the mentioned kernel
he in no way asked anyone to flash the kernel from the link, it was a reference link.

yea i looked at that thread and that helped alot on some of the settings but the rest i couldnt find help on like tweaking the gpu and cpu to get maximum output. i currently have the cpu running at max of 1500 and min of 500. but i havent touched the voltage or any other settings other than setting the govenor to performance. the other settings get to be a bit confusing.
working on posting more. up to 8 now.

Can you get into recovery and reflash AOKP?
Is that the full root box aokp for i777? Or is it just the kernel?

Full root box AOKP? I'm not sure what that is...just flash the entire AOKP ROM. It will flash over the i9100 Fluxii, then you can download and flash the correct version.
I downloaded the root box aokp rom which is what I thought was the i777 version. I'll re-download this version when I get back home.

Are you talking about Task's AOKP? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574718 If so, just reflash it in recovery. Reflashing AOKP uses Task's CM9 kernel and it'll overwrite the i9100 version of Fluxii you installed.
reflashed aokp rom. now im getting numerous process errors. android keyboard has stopped working, rom control has stopped, process.android.phone has stopped. have went into CWM recovery and re-installed zip and wiped davlik data, partition data. only other thing i havent done is factory reset. i even unrooted and re-rooted to get it back. now im getting the i-9100 boot logo with the yellow triangle.
Yikes. Did you happen to make a Nandroid before flashing? If not, you may have to return to stock. You also might want to get on IRC and try to get someone to help you real-time.
i just connected it to my computer, removed the other roms that i had and some other unneeded files, like the i9100 files, did a factory reset, re-installed the rom from recovery, reinstalled gapps. so far i havent gotten any process errors. still have the i9100 boot icon but i can fix that with the triangle away from the market. sucks that rootbox isnt going to be made for i777, i checked the thread and bajee confirmed he's only doing it for the i9100 or the s3. so im s.o.l on that. is there a way to get the fluxi kernel though? or is it stuck with whatever rom ur using?

Um, how about going to the fluxi thread, downloading it, and flashing it? If you don't know this stuff, you shouldn't be flashing anything at all.

i do know about flashing and using roms. but i dont know everything and id wager a bet that neither do u. all i asked was a simple question. not to have someone treat my question as if i asked why the sky was blue. i know about installing roms and such but not too keen on doing kernels. if i knew about it i wouldnt have asked the question now would i?

You did ask a very simple question. And the very simple answer to your very simple question is readily available in the forum stickies.
If you think flashing kernels an flashing roms are completely separate processes, you don't understand as much as you think you do. Did you know that every time you flash a rom, you flash a kernel too?
And no, I don't know everything. But having knowledge isn't the key...the key is knowing how to acquire the knowledge you need.

[Q] When someone calls, they can't hear me.

Whenever someone calls me, they say "hello" and I reply but they can't hear me. It doesn't happen ALL the time but MOST of the time. It is annoying, anyone having this problem, have solutions for it?
Running Latest AOKP.
Which kernel are you using with this rom ?
The problem you facing can arise if you are using a non-mswap version of Siyah/neak kernel as we need to use the mswap version only for AOKP/CM9 based roms ..
I faced the same issue when I didn't read the OP of the siyah kernel and flashed the wrong one over paranoid ..
Hope this helps !!!

Hi the modems you suggested are gingerbread modems if im not wrong (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336958) but i'm on ICS.
Unless here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361393, "Modems For Samsung Based ROMs" work with AOKP?

You have some reading to do.
There is no difference GB/ICS modem.
all modems will work for you, and you would need an AOSP flashable zip in order to flash if you are running AOKP....
there ya go. Spoonfeeding complete for today.

question about kernel

If im going to flash new kernel with my custom kernel do i need to wipe something or it will just overwrite on it it and i dont need to wipe?
Thanks for the answer in advance..
Just flash it, don't worry about anything else.
Sometimes there might be scripts in etc/init.d but not usually. Depends on the dev. Some rom devs have scripts there too.

Siyah is a good well developed kernel , it comes with a configuration app, but the default settings work great....from there is a matter of watching the thread, reading and learning about what all the various tweaks do, usual rules apply,....don't mess with stuff until you understand what you are doing

rom compatibility question

Good day guys
1.Does cm10 compatible with siyah kernel?
2.is cm10 now official or beta?
3.can i just use the backup from cwm if i want to restore things after i flash cm10?
4.cm9 or cm10? (Better)
5.if i flash custom rom does it unroot my phone and remove cwm options?

1. Not sure if its been updated... you could ask or check in the respective thread.
2. Official Nightlies just dropped for select devices.. check dev section.
3. Yes
4 Neither.. CM9 based on ICS, CM10 based on JB.. Both are awesome and JB is the newest shiz so... (and actually CM9 may have more features right now)
5. 99% of the time no. Unless you flash a ROM w/ Odin that does not have root or CWM. But- most, if not all, the custom ROMs you find here will have root and CWM. Just look at the ROM features before flashing!

Answer for 1. is YES it's compatible with CM10. Just look at the thread title of siyah kernel.

1. Yes siyah supports cm10. Says so in the title. Always read the change logs for important info
2. It's in beta sort of. They're releasing previews that are quite usable. I'm using it atm. Only annoying bug is the memory leak that can easily be solved by rebooting the phone. 3. Restore only app apks, not phone settings. Restore app data at your own risk.
4. Depends on if you're looking for stability. CM9 is stable but I like JB and I'm going to be sticking with CM10
5. No it doesn't. Flashing a stock rom with stock kernel will unroot it. Custom roms will not

Go to the Original Development section and get CM9 from there. Its good for you to navigate around the site and get comfortable where stuff is. In regards to the bootani, in my experience you change this by modifying /system/media/bootanimation.zip. You can try swapping the new bootanimation.zip with the old bootani.zip and see if that works. But I've never flashed a .zip to change the bootani.. but to be fair its been a long time since I've had any desire to change the bootanimation

Lol.. sorry. Like I said you need to get comfortable with this site and not just ask for links.. if you can't find em sure, but you need to try. You can do it two ways- on your PC: at the XDA home page you'll see 2 search boxes near the top and to the right. The box that says "find your device" ..type your phone in there and choose it when the option comes up. Then scroll down.. bam- OG Dev Forum! Or download the XDA app and find your device that way-
I hope you find it but I'm confident you will
