S'up guys, just won my boss's X10, its locked on Rogers and I already own 2 Android based phones.
I'd like to know if there is a way to use it as a media player/web browser (my son would love to play with this one!) without the sim card or without paying for an unlock code??
I heard of te "bootloader bypass", can this be a solution for me??
Well, can't you remove SIM card and turn it on?
No it wont work that way. i had rogers locked x10. it will show u imergency dial pad only. u need unlocked phone as per i know.
Search the market for wosim. Will do exactly what u want

My unbranded and SIM locked Xperia X8 works without SIM card. Maybe Rogers' branding disables functionality without SIM? Try flashing generic firmware.
Ok, wosim...... all writen in chinese.......
For flashing generic OS, dont I need access to the phone first???
buy a sim card and just don't set it up.....
buying a rogers sim is more expensive that unlocking codes.........??

Unless it changed by a new method, you need a SIM card from another network to unlock it anyways no? Get one on eBay from AT&T for a dollar if you want to unlock it.
Wosim worked like a charm, thx kieronw3
Sim cards are only like 5 or ten bucks

So are unlock codes, which I will probably buy in the next week or 2, but its still nice to be able to use this baby, without having to spend anything.
Thx alot for all your help!
Hello, I plan on buying this phone from Orange on Pay as you go, My question is will I be able to unlock the bootloader on a carrier locked phone?
All I really want is the ability to install cyanogenmod 9/10 with this amazing device.
Thanks.

Why would you buy a PAYG phone locked to a carrier... It cost about £10 less than an unlocked version.

I bought my s3 from car phone warehouse they said its not locked to any provider because they are not a network provider. IPhone only phone that locks to sim when inserted when buying from them so I'm told

Yes I see your point but when it comes time to sell that phone and buy a new one your S3 will sell for more if its unlocked. I'm not knocking you its just personal preference. I know if I'm spending several hundred on a phone I'm not going to work about paying £30 extra for an unlocked version. I paid £430 for a 32GB unlocked version. Hit me up if you need a link.. :good:
As already said, no S3 (even the Verizon one) comes with a locked bootloader.
Carrier-lock makes no sense on payg phones but if it should be, there are plenty of tools to unlock

Hello XDA,
I am thinking of getting a xperia Z Ultra from a friend in the UK. I was wondering if there is any known way to unlock the SIM CARD since I'd get it shipped here ( Portugal ).
Any info is very appreciated!
Thanks,
Marco
I don't understand what you mean by unlocking the simple card. Sim cards aren't locked in the UK, but phones and 3g tablets are sometimes network locked. The phone may need to be unlocked to use on your network, depending on where your UK based friend buys it from. If they buy it from a network store, eg 3, Vodafone, etc it will probably be locked to that network. If they buy it from Carphone Warehouse or from an online third party company it will almost certainly be unlocked ready to use on any network. Please note that the ultra uses a micro sim, so if your current phone takes a mini simple (standard sized sim) you will have to get it cut, or ask your network to exchange it for you.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough. I meant if there is a way to unlock the network on the phone ( meaning, that I can use any sim card from any operator on the market )

My apologies, I put simple card, instead of sim card. I am from the UK, and if the phone is purchased from a store here called Carphone Warehouse, it will be sim free, which means it is unlocked to any network when it is bought. It will not need to be unlocked, as it will have never been locked to a network in the first place. You should be able to simply put in your Portuguese sim card, and use the phone as soon as it arrives. If your friend buys it from a network store; for example they buy it at a 3 store, a Vodafone store, etc, it will be locked to the network on which it is purchased, and will need to be unlocked, for a fee. I have the same phone, which I purchased online, and it is sim-free. If I had purchased it from Carphone Warehouse, it would also have been sim free.
Sim free means it was never locked to a network from the date of manufacture.
Unlocked means it was network locked originally, and could only be used on the network it was locked to at that time. At some point it was unlocked, whether for free or for a charge, and now works on all networks.
Network locked means it was network locked originally, and is still network locked now. This means that it will only work on the network it is locked to, unless it is unlocked at a later date.
Almost all phones sold in Carphone Warehouse are sold as unlocked, except for those which are advertised as being on 3 network. These are network locked to 3, and can only be unlocked by 3, for a fee of around £15. (UK pounds, not Euros).
There are companies online that sell unlocked handsets, but if your friend is buying in store, they would be best going to Carphone Warehouse, as there will be no need for them, or you, to get the phone unlocked.
I hope this helps to clarify things for you.
Hey, I'm trying to find out how to Sim Unlock my phone. It's locked to sprint right now and I want to Sim Unlock it to work with cricket wireless. Can someone please tell me the instructions on how to do so. I know some threads have been talking about carrier switching but that's for the firmware, that doesn't actually sim unlock the phone. Thank you.

So I did this. Now if I go and flash a different room through Odin. Will this affect my sim unlock?

Hi mate, as I see u used bought this service from ebay, and unlocked your phone, I am looking for it now but as I see from seller's description now, it says "DO NOT BUY IF Baseband version: G955USQU2BQK5" which is mine version atm, do you maybe know how can I unlock my Sprint S8+ at this moment?
Hi! I live in Ukraine and I am thinking about buying sprint S8 bad esn on Ebay. Will it work internationally (in Ukraine)? Do I have to unlock it to use internationally? I had many Verizon bad esn phones and all of them work perfectly.

Can't find anywhere in UK that can pre-order, or order, dual sim version.
Ideally somewhere doing the promotion and/or with option of PayPal.
Anyone found anywhere?

Three uk is only reseller that I know of that does dual SIM.
You cannot buy from them sim free but you can get on contract and then cancel and works out slightly cheaper than a single free device. See my post in the UK thread.

Whatever you do, don't put a 3 SIM in first as it will be permanently branded to 3 and worst of all you won't get many updates. Worth getting a PAYG sim if need be just to avoid this crap.

Because of the camera , I am a massive photographer
Also the updates on samsung are ridiculous no rhyme or reason ...
I asked csrphone warehouse and they said they are selling single sim version. It might be same hardware wise with a different sim tray, then just a different firmware.
Thanks for the tip about 3 sim I will put my ee sim in first and see what happens

Your buying from where
There is definitely a single and dual SIM varient.
Caroline warehouse confirmed they only sell single SIM. I don't believe anyone other than three are selling dual in UK. But happy to be proved otherwise.
