Wikipad 3d - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I was browsing and came across this tablet:
http://mobile.theverge.com/2012/5/3/2995878/wikipad-3d-gaikai-cloud-gaming-announcement
It will have a quad core tegra 3 processor and ship with Android 4 and retail at a mere $250 with the gamepad. What I'm wondering is, could this be better than the prime, for like half the price? It does look quite promising and you can switch from 2d to 3d anytime, on any app.
I was set to get the transformer 300 but may this be superior?
Thoughts?

The article doesn't mention that it will be $250. But it would be pretty cool is some third party manufacturer made something like this for the transformer prime.

If you view other articles, then I'm sure the price is meant to be $250. Unless they've changed their plans...

bump as I kinda need guidance on what to do, wait for this, or get the transformer?
Sent from my R800i using XDA

if you wait for the best thing there will always be something better just around the corner.
from what i read its a smaller screen and might not even be touchscreen, i dont know i didnt spend a lot of time reading about it... basically its a cheap android tablet that supports 3d and has a custom built gamepad dock.
The prime or 300 are more like premium built tablets that support a hell of a lot more than that gamepad, bigger screen, and a full keyboard dock, however slightly more expensive.
My quesitons for you are this:
Do you need a tablet right away
Will you be using it for games, videos, music, internet, etc.
Will a keyboard dock be benifitial to you
how often will you use the gamepad
will using a bluetooth controller (like a PS3 Controller) be an acceptable alternative
Basically, weigh out each benifit and downfall of each tablet and based on your own use determine which is the best fit for you. None of us can tell you which will be the best decision for you.

Who is buying the Asus Transformer Prime? Off topic

Is anyone else excited about the transformer prime releasing on dec 8th. The specs are amazing. Just wanted to get your input on this tablet as I am looking into buying it when it releases. How good do u all think development will be? Thanks for responding.
Sent my from IPad!
Yes, no question.
Love the keyboard add-on too.
I really wish they would be smart about the price and go lower than $499.99 though.
seriously considering it. had an ipad2 but sold it once the et4g came out. the transformer prime looks RIDICULOUS
I love my transformer 1 but the prime is everything I wished the TF1 was especially than it's thinner and lighter than the ipad 2, thinner but just a hair heavier than the galaxy tab 10.1. I most likely wont be able to get it for myself until january. Then I plan on buying the tablet first, selling my tf 1 and dock, then buying the dock
Nuff nuff gonna sell my hp touchpad to cover part of the prime

I'm with you guys. It is gonna be great. His was the first transformer prime? Is Dec 8th the actual release date?
Yes Matty the keyboard looks so cool. I'm selling my Ipad for this beast.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
It does have nice specs, and it's thin and all that, but I have some reservations. First, it's expensive, especially if you get the keyboard. The quad-core(actually 5 core) Tegra chip sounds good, but until apps are written to specifically take advantage of it, the speed increase won't be as great as it could be. I would have preferred a screen with better than 1280x800, and lived with a dual-core processor.
Foo shooo... Got my pre order in from newegg. My first tablet!

I won't buy until it has a USB port ON THE TABLET. Bummer because it's close to perfect otherwise.
Better resolution would have been nice.
I'll wait for Samsung to release their next tablet before ever going with an Asus tablet again. I went through 4 TFs before giving up and jumping to the GT10.1. Haven't looked back since. The TF had one of the worst build quality I have seen on an electronic device.
hopefully early next year, so far its the only tablet I've had any interest in.

I have the og transformer, and really want to get the new one, but I can't really justify spending all that money on my college student budget when my og does most of the same. The transformer is an awesome tablet though. For anyone who doesn't have one already I recommend it.
It is especially great for college students who need a proper keyboard to take notes on in class and need the extra battery life so they can stay on campus all day and not worry about getting the coveted spots with outlets to study at.
Maybe if I can sell my og with keyboard for around 400 then I can upgrade.

I'm probably going to do it. I've been holding off on a tablet for years now, and at this point I feel one such as the Prime is more than powerful enough to last me through several years of tantalizing new chipsets. I still use a 1.6ghz dual core laptop from '06. ;-)
I personally don't see the use for tablets if you a Smartphone and a laptop.... tablets don't make calls and can't do a lot of what a laptop can do but to each his/her own. I personally won't be buying one, instead I will wait for quad core phones to hit and then cough up the 500 to upgrade early from my magnificent ET.
I probably won't be picking it up as I have the original TF and dock and hardly get any use out of it to begin with. Shame because the Prime looks amazing. I think a full blown laptop would have better suited my needs.

John that is one hell if a question. I don't know but wouldn't it have to be windows to run Odin? Also it is hard to justify 500 bucks for a tablet but that quad core keeps calling my name. Lol. Going to be selling some things to help with the cost so I feel better.

Xoom Family on sale @ Bestbuy I think its $349
I'd love to get a tablet with Qualcomm's new chips more than anything. Likely holding out here till next yr and get one with it and enjoy lte modem built on the die of the chip and great battery life savings because of such.
If I had to get one now it'd be the prime more likely if cost didn't matter.
Though if cost didn't matter id shell out for Qualcomm's developer tablet that's supposed to.be available in the early spring finally.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a Motorola Xoom
Both very very similar though i must say I like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 more. The Xoom just cam down in price since the Xoom 2 is about to be releases, so maybe u can get a bargain...
If $ is not an issue, prime. I got my wife a kindle fire and for a basic tab it's great for $199
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I know this gets said often, but I would wait until March/April if you can. The main reason is that the iPad 3 should be released and there will probably be a few quad-core Android tablets. So even if you would be happy with a Tegra 2 tablet, those devices will drive the price down on the older models. However, if you don't care and you just want something NOW, then I would get the Prime. Biggest bang for the buck in that it costs $100 less than a comparable iPad 2 and most of the other Tegra 2 tablets out there. (I always laugh when people say it costs the same, but they compare a 32gb Prime against a 16gb whatever)
That's the tablet I'm buying, i can't wait to have my prime

Well, if you want the 7" form factor with stylus support, a Flyer at $299 isn't half bad. From what I understand the handwriting recognition is better than the Lenovo Thinkpad tablet which is more expensive and there aren't really many other games in town to support a stylus like that. So....sure, it's a valid recommendation for a specific audience.
Lately I have seen the Flyer going from $220-$250 at a lot of these Deal A Day/Slickdeal type of sites. Ebay even had a daily special last week for that price, for the Sprint Evo Tablet, no contract required.
Flyer - great for people that take lots of notes ( students?)
Xoom - This is what I have and i haven't had any issues with it. Just that its a bit on the heavy side
Galaxy Tab - Pretty much same as the xoom just that it doesn't have an expansion slot and its much lighter in weight
Prime - This thing is a beast!!
Im biased but for the price and spec's you can't beat the HP Touchpad.
Android or Webos, whichever one you want to run, plus top of the line specs for a dual core tablet. I love it.
Just get this

I am on the fence about the Transformer. Someone I know has the original in great condition for only $300. I'm sure he is going to use the money to get the Prime. I'm wondering if its a good buy at this point or should I spend the extra two bills and get the Prime myself.
Any suggestions??

BTW, ipad 3 is not necessarily the name of the new device.....
As of right now, it is the "New iPad". Apple fanboys are going belly up because Apple's presentation didn't actually name the device.
My mom pre ordered one yesterday (dumbest thing she's ever done btw) so I'll have a true toe to toe with my Prime. First thing I'm gonna ask her to do with it is put a live wallpaper on it, then Widgets and multitasking. That's where we'll start. These dopey fan boys (sorry ma) keep buying the same product year after year.

How are the owners going to claim their superiority over the owners of the og ipad and ipad2 now!?
I pre-ordered a new iPad. I think any reasonable human being who is not an angst-ridden teen can understand why they sell well. And any reasonable human being can understand why people prefer Android and their tablets, and their ability to customize.
It's such a shame that we get stupid troll posts like the one the OP posted. And the following comments aren't much better.
I preordered one as well, while I love android ( I have a galaxy nexus and gtab 10.1), I don't think the android tablet experience is quite there yet. The iPad has always been smooth as butter, sure it has no lwp or widgets but IMO I can live without those for the time being
Ok wow this Ipad was just announced and sounds like a few upgrades but really, I have played with ipads and to me, they are nothing but oversized ipod touches. They dont have anything that gives it a personal touch to it. I love my prime and more so now that it is still the only quad core cpu tablet on the market.
Apple makes these idevices for the simple person and of course cuz anything with an i front of the name will sell big bucks.
So keep ur ipads, iphones, itouch and iRons and leave us primes alone.
Go talk about it in the Ipad forum with no roms, no tweaks and nothing fun to do with anything section!
I'll admit it, I'm a prime owner and I want the "new ipad". I had an ipad 1 for a year and a half before getting the prime and I must say, as much as I love android on my phone, the tablet experience just isn't on par with the ipad when it comes to the quality and quantity of apps for tablet specific devices. Im sure lots of you will rag on me for saying it but I don't care, I said it, I want the new ipad.

I'm sorry, but sir are you serious, if so are this the best arguments you could come up with?
The camera isn't even tested good, but it would be just as good as the iPhone 4S according to the keynote. Oh, and a 8MP pixel camera doesn't have to be better then a 5MP, I hope you realize that.
Dual core, yes but iOS uses the GPU better then Android does so it has quad core graphics. For iOS this is a better chose then a bad GPU and quad core CPU, while for Android it is opposite.
The Retina display 2048x1536 vs 1280x800 probably isn't a matter for you "because the Prime's screen is fine?".
I will not start about the WiFi, GPS, backlight bleeding issues here from the Prime.
I mean, really I accept it that you love your Prime, but don't talk like it is completely better then the iPad, because it isn't.

As for owners, theyll refer to it as the new ipad or ipad3. But as for apple's branding, I believe they are trying to keep it simple like that of their other product like the macbook air, where the model number will tell consumers which one it is.
If you were a gamer which would you choose? I love android but I play a lot of games on my Evo 3d and Prime (although much limited in games right now) but I just went on youtube and I didnt realize there are a lot of HD quality rpg games on iOS. As much as I hate apple they got us on games.

[Q] A decent ICS tablet?

I have a TF101 and my fiance steals it all the time to mess around or play games like angry birds, or around as equally demanding. I'm trying to find her a decent tablet running Android 4.0 (ICS) that I can afford on a $20 spare a week budget. The one she likes the looks of but I am unsure of any quality is this one on eBay. I planned to buy it under PayPals bill me later policy. Any opinions on that with PayPal?

The problem with those unbranded tablets on ebay, etc is that you'll likely get no support after buying it. Meaning you won't see any Android updates, you don't really have any kind of warranty and there won't be much dev support out there. If you can afford it something like the Nexus 7 will be better long term as it will likely see the next few versions of Android without you needing to flash any ROMs. Those ebay tablets will be on ICS forever, which is already one version old. But the Nexus is quite a bit more than the cheap tablets so if you are fine with the limitations due to your budget get the cheaper one.
I don't think there is even a brand name tablet that I can afford. Problem is I only make $90 a week and $70 is used to get what we need and pay on my truck. I only have $20 spare generally so I'd need something I can get cheap on bill me later.
