After 25 hours use of new ICS leak - my experience - HTC EVO 3D

Simply good. I didn't expect to be this stable. Everything works. I made a Day in the life without an issue. I even took 3d pix and video. Battery life is similar or slightly better than Gingerbread. Just wanted to share my experience for those who hasn't tried. I did not flashed the new firmware (CDMA). Just same ole method of Wipe / Flash. Cheers

Thanks for the info. If you do start having problems please post back here. I did the hboot downgrade but revolutionary won't five me s-off so I'm forced back to hboot 1.5 and stuck with s-on and can't flash the firmware.

My battery life seems tons better than it was before. But who knows, maybe I had some crappy rom that said it was using a single core but it was really wasting battery by enabling the second one at all times.
All I know is I was reading on my phone for about an hour this morning and it was still at 92%.
Other than that, I'm pretty surprised with how well it's running. Sense 3.6 is ok, a little jarring to see some of the sense colors go out of the way for real ICS stuff (like when you're attaching a google account).
One thing I don't like is how they ruined the default app behavior. Before if you clicked a link from a twitter app, it asked what application to use. That's ok, you can change that particular thing from the default apps settings (and ICS Browser + destroys the default Sense browser), but if I'm in an email and I click a twitter name, it just goes straight to the browser. Previously it popped up a menu for a browser or twitter apps, and I'd rather have it go right to the app.

I'm a little disappointed that the Car Panel isn't there (Well, it is kinda. When I plug it into my car dock, the icon shows up in the bar, but there's no Car Panel App or anything). Other than that, the desktop dock mode is nice with the added music player feature. Everything runs smooth, and I definitely like the swipe feature in the drop down menu and task killer.

Adding the performance tweak has made this thing fly..sacrifice just a little battery but its worth it.

Like I said, that works fine for which browser to open thankfully, because the stock browser is as bad as it's ever been, but there's nothing in there for anything else I want to deal with, like twitter links from gmail. They don't let you add anything

Peep is missing, it kinda kills Friend Stream's usefulness & Twitter contact syncing.
Great release though.

Here is a link to a working sprint VM app. Its been posted a few times in different ics threads.

Can someone confirm that MHL and OTG works on ICS?

I ****ing love this ICS leak! Like the OP said, everything works! From 3d to in car Bluetooth to HDMI out, its all flawless. I love the tweaks HTC made to sense, I don't even mind that its not sense 4.0. I'm using apex launcher to replicate that stock ics look and best of all, I can use chrome!

Very nice ics starting rom
Hi,
I tried this ROM this afternoon,
My phone: HTC EVO 3D x515m
Camera: 5M*2
hboot: HTC *** UNLOCKED METHOD ***
SHOOTER_U PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.49.0018
Oct 3 2011 15:03:01
First, I extracted the boot.img from the archive and I flashed with the option of EXT Recovery.
I rebooted in recovery (4EXT v1.0.0.5 RC3 Build 102)
I Wiped data, system, CACHE, Dalvik-Cache
Then I flashed the ROM and then reboots Virtuous_Shooter_v.3.0.0.zip
I tested:
Bluetooth OK (associated with a headset MOTOROLA)
Phone OK (not stop during a call)
Wifi OK
2D and 3D camera OK
Spiderman 3D OK!
I realized that the ROM was not rooted. So I flashed in Recovery mode, Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip. ROOT is ok now.
When configuring the phone, I took the backup on Google. All my applications were then restored.
I restored the data from each application with Titanium Backup.
I think we would finally an ICS ROM from which The developer will be able to build their new ROM.
It's really good. thank you to Virtuous Dev Team: Diamondback, Flemmard, seo, rmk, chrisch1974, eViL_Dee, mdj, cypis, cjward, tbalden
Thank to Mdeejay!!!
Sincerely,

oh yea, best part about the perfect leak, no sprint bloat!

I saw somewhere that Peep isn't going to be available anymore with the ICS update and the official Twitter app would replace it. Don't remember where though.

My battery life has been worse than when I was on mean or zr3d. I am down half battery and it is only noon.
I don't like the new gmail app. The old one was dark this one is white and for me hard to see what is new and what is old.
In time it will be better. I dis not flash the firmware. Just the ROM.

The Gmail app isn't new in the update(just the icon), and it's always been white since the beginning of time... A lot of ROM developers and themers have made different color variants, though, with the most popular being the 'Inverted Gmail' which is probably what you got used to using.
My experience with the ICS leak was good and bad. I like all the changes to UI, but some of the stuff was buggy at times. First, it took a few reboots/battery pulls after flashing to even boot into the ROM for the first time. I have Sprint VM saved on SD, and after installing it, it didn't work. Cache cleaner app was non-responsive. I'd go to clean the cache and it would sit there for several minutes 'cleaning' until I just gave up. I restarted the phone once and when I went back to open my text messages, all I saw were phone numbers(instead of contact names) for a few minutes until I turned on Wifi and everything sync'd again.... just a few things I can remember right off-hand. I'll probably just wait until we at least have a 'Sprint Leak' to go back again. I'm sure the OTA isn't too far away anyway..

Actually gmail does update for ICS and only for ICS. It is completely different from the gingerbread version it takes some time to get use too but the end result is I kind of like it.

I love the release but I just wish the app drawer was side to side instead of top and down.

MIUI = Love!

Just installed the MIUI Beta and I am LOVING this ROM! My absolute favorite so far. It's smooth, my battery seems to be holding good. No FC's yet. The look and feel is great! Good job devs!
Few questions though. How do I delete individual notifications? No (X) next to then, and I tried to swipe them to delete, but nothing. Also, on the lock screen, if I drag over the camera, it doesnt open the camera, just goes to the home screen.
Other than that it's amazing! Thanks guys!

I just came from CM7. Didn't like it much. Too glitchy and just didn't like the overall look and feel. I had Eclipse before and that was my favorite until now. Just too many issues with CM7
- dock shortcuts would seem time change or dissapear on their own. Like I would boot up and there would be a star where the browser used to be. Or where the app drawer shortcut was. One time I pressed the browser button and ALL of my dock icons dissappeared.
- Widgets sometimes would be invisible. I could long press them where they should have been and it would let me delete them or move them. But they wouldn't show up.
- I had it in my dock and it showed it was plugged in and charging. Had like 95% battery when I plugged in. Woke up to a dead phone. 0% battery. Even if it wasn't charging, it would have made it through the night on 95%
And just some other weird stuff. Just didn't like it much. Sorry. I even tried wiping and reflashing. Still basically the same.
MIUI is running stable so far. And I love the look and feel.

SMH. You should read up more on MIUI, and TRY IT, before you put out your opinions/"assumptions." MIUI was created by Xiaomi Tech, a Chinese firm (dunno wtf you got arabs..), so it's not just some random dev's collaborating, but an actual company putting out the ROM for usage in handsets in Asia that got picked up by the rest of the Android community. And as far as open source, they announced back in February of this year that they were going to begin opensourcing their applications and ROM, which you can see over at their GitHub (google it..).

Thanks thelowend. Yes I have tried Eclipse, and as I said it was my favorite. But MIUI is really cool. I think I like it because its so different. And everything seems so integrated. Like the notifications, I love how It gives a place for a reply right in the notification! That rocks! It just looks and feels more refined.
I am finding a few more bugs. Like Youtube not working, or any streaming video for that matter. Even some of my saved vids on the SD card dont want to play. And I can't record video either. All freeze after about 2 seconds of play/recording.
So far that is the biggest turn-off for me. I use youtube allll the time. Anyone know if they are working on this? I even tried the mobile site, and neither that or the app work.
Eclipse had its glitches too. But both are very good ROMs.
Oh one other glitch that really bugged me from CM7 is gapps kept FC'ing after a while and I would need to un-install and re-install it every so often.

Has issues on mdeejays ICS rom (gsm). Pretty often, the screen does not update after doing a swipe (meaning you actually are on the next screen, but it continues to show the previous one right after the transition is done.)
Tried deinstalling Chainfire, which helped with some minor artifacts, but did not solve the real problem. Anyone else having these issues?

Need Testers - Hopefully Better Multitasking (Flashable Zip Inside)

first thing, this wont brick your device (0% chance)
what i have done is patched the services.jar to allow more apps to stay in memory (up to 8 i think)
ive been using it and so far my browser have not reloaded once, only when i load up over 8 apps at the same time
this means your phone will have less available memory, but its being put to good use, since its not being used anyway lol
the main change ive noticed so far is improvement in the browser, way less reloads.

Another note is Mikey mentioned he fixed MeanROM on the previous base to have a higher OOM priority (lower number) for the browser, gapps, and other stuff so they wouldn't get killed so easily.
Any thoughts on doing the same thing also? I have no idea if Auto Memory Manager works on ICS, that allows you to modify the OOM priority for specific apps.

Better is subjective, but here's my $0.02
I've been running viper since day one, and it's crazy easy to customize, which is its main claim to fame. But I've also never had any issues with bugs, reboots, or apps crashing. Literally never, not even once. It's the definition of a daily driver - everything works, it's fast, and I get great battery. It's a "set it and forget it" type of rom.
Mean seems more into the the constant tweaking and updating, and is more interested in adding the "latest and greatest" mods for the phone. It's a rom that you want to stay on top of.
From what I've seen, both roms get great support in their threads from the devs and users, but the viper crew has a reputation for being smartasses and having fun while doling out the support, so if you're the kind of guy who likes your support thread to be all business, that might come into play.
I can vouch for mean, viper and tranquility. They are all daily drivers it just depends on what suits you best. I was happy with all of them I just like trying new stuff all the time. Mean is pretty much stock with tweaks. Viper is very custumizable and tranquility is very heavily themed.

Linkifier no longer works, the smallest fonts are still entirely too large, the stock E-mail client is gimped and 5x4 Rosie still overlaps. I realize the latest HTC base broke most of that stuff while completely ignoring the flawed mail app, but that's not progress.
Now I'm wondering if there's another Sense ROM I should try or go straight to AOSP. If I do, I'll lose HTC's camera tweaks and the ability to update the PRL.
Viper4G gets my vote. Was my first Sense ROM to try and after trying all the others it suited me best. My favorite Sense ROM no doubt but like others have said its really down to personal preference.
V4G was, and still is a hella nice daily driver. I even trusted it enough to guide me through my vacation instead of my old lady's GPS and everything else. Awesome ROM.
Sent from my CM10 powered EVO.
Meanrom
I just flashed it but it has a ota update feature where u can download the newest release right through the ROM itself.
Check it out.
My battery drain is minimal and its very smooth.

linkify works fine for me on meanrom 4.3...also that is why mike switched it the 4x4 rosie b.c 5x4 doesnt work yet (and he stated this)
he also didnt mess with the stock font so it may be the same on every sense rom for you. what are you trying to do in the stock e-mail app? i use it and thats all i use and i can do everything i need to...

1.) Linkify doesn't work in HTCMail. Hyperlinks are now dead in mail from 2.13.651.1 RUU and there is no easy fix. I believe this affects all up-to-date Sense ROMs
2.) Mike left the mail app alone and that's my beef with it-- it blows. The smallest font size is still entirely too large, which brings me to my next point..
3.) With a 720x1280 native resolution from an otherwise gorgeous 4.7" LCD, NO user deserves to be stuck with a 4x4 Rosie. Give me a ****ing break on the Playskool fonts, and I'm not 60 years old. I don't appreciate others reading my E-mail over my shoulder on an airplane, just because HTC gimped their software.
With Linkify crippled and the too-large font size still unresolved, I can't recommend a Sense ROM at this point. For me, MeanROM is there just to activate and update the PRL before flashing over to CM10.

and none of those are the caused by meanrom, i just dont want someone thinking the rom is not complete or something, everyone is entitled to what they want, unfortunately the email thing is bc of apple . but the 4x4 rosie i actually like better, widgets never fit perfectly on 4x5 rosie. i dunno personal opinion i guess

Frustrations........

I flashed nils business sense 2.8 sense 4 last week. It runs awesome, I love it. However since then all of a sudden, all the pics I have taken since the flash are no longer there. I even plugged the phone into the computer and they are gone. have accepted that many of my pics are gone. (I do have drop box, so that alleviates some of the missing pics)
I cannot get the kindle app to run. It works on my gtab, so I know it's not me. But I open it, select the book I am reading, and it comes right back to my home screen. I have in installed and installed a few times, deregistered it on amazon and reregistered it as well. Just frustrating that it's not working at all.
My last frustration is with the profiles, I have the phone on vibrate, yet it still rings, not good for work lol.
I even tried wiping everything and reflashing the entire Rom.
Any help would be great.

Sound like your having bad flash problem, the pictures sound like they got erased when you flashed the Rom.. try reflashing everything with a complete double wipe (cache, dalvik, factory, and system)As for kindle its been known not to work on alot of the sense 4 roms released lately as well as adobe.. I'm sur there will be a fix eventually.. as for the sound profiles I believe theirs more than one way to control your sound I.e. settings, quick. Settings, tweaks.. play with them all you might have one all the way up and the other down.. I hope any of this helps you..

Try biz sense 3.6. I would think it would work.
Use can use File Scavenger on your PC to scan and recover deleted files from your sd card on your computer.
