try looking for a type of linux called "parted magic" its a smaller sized linux OS that can get the job done and you can boot it from a usb drive run it then delete it... best place to locate a version of parted magic is Hirens boot cd version 15... but without linux you can not downgrade.... step one ...get linux,... when you get that OS post back and we can help you from there

thankyou sincerely I will definately postback

OK turns out I got Ubuntu barely working on here what do I need to do now

lets take a pause for the cause. in need faster contact call my number I'll pm it to you I can't get Linux to boot on the USB drive

I'm hoping that you didn't get a bad vibe in one of the downgrade threads. I am personally willing to help as much as possible. Give the CD in my signature a try. There are instructions in post #3 of my thread. If you follow them step-by-step, you should be fine. Please don't be turned off by what happened. I'm sorry.

I agree with closeone. His boot disk is the work around you need. If you cant burn the cd get you a usb thumb drive and boot from there. I unfortunately cant get the 2.17 to brick. Its saying it cant find the image but the PG86IMG.zip is in the root. Also before that its searching for another file. The sd card is in NTFS could this have something to do with it? I have tried multiple 2.17 RUUs so i dont think the image is corrupt...

Hi Ron. It's very possible that it being formatted NTFS is the issue. Generally, you'll format your smaller media as FAT32. Second reason may be because the zip file has been named PG86IMG.zip.zip. If you have 'show file extensions' turned off, then the file should just be named PG86IMG.
~co~

Thanks ill try reformatting it tomorrow when i get off work. I always keep my extensions shown so its only 1 zip so ill try fat32 and get back to ya tomorrow evening. Thanks a ton and great work!

I'm sorry Embargho101, I don't quite understand where you're stuck. I'm happy to help. There are ISO burning instructions in post 3 (as well as instructions for doing the downgrade). You'll reboot your computer with the CD in your drive. This should boot up into the CD instead of Windows. If it doesn't, you may have to change the boot device or boot order on your computer. Typically, mashing down F12 while the computer is booting will bring up the boot menu. From there, you can select to boot from the CD-ROM drive. It does very from computer to computer though.

That's one of my major reasons for S-OFF. Flashing ROMs requires no extra magic on the to make it work. I can restore NANDroid backups from anywhere (Especially nice when Boot Manager doesn't like moving back to a ROM in another slot). You have the ability to flash radios. Oh, and also, if you haven't already unlocked your bootloader using HTC's method, they won't know that you unlocked.
Just for the sheer convenience of being able to flash ROMs without anything extra, it's worth it.

You need to boot into the CD. Before you boot into Windows, it'll give you the option to boot from another drive (on my desktop it's ESC, and on my laptop it's F12).

I haven't heard of any issues with the rev unless you try it on a hboot above 1.5. 1.5 andlower should go over just fine as it has every time I have done it which must be about thirty times now. So idk . . .

[POLL] How many hboot 1.5ers have done Juopunutbear S-OFF?

Well the title speaks for itself, this is my first thread on these forums, hope its in the rights section.
So, like the title asks...
How many people on hboot 1.5 have sucessfully done the Juopunutbear S-OFF mod? If you have is it worth it and do you think its really hard to do?
I only ask because the directions seem short, simple, and to the point.
Am I okay starting out with MeanROMICS 1.4?
How do I know what file download is appropriate for me (the thread in this section states .05 is good but the instructions on juopunutbears site say .01)?
And lastly on the unlimited.io page under the hboot downloads section, do i need any of these files and how do i distinguish the difference?
me
i did. heeeelllllaaaaaaa easy. even better is i recovered fully from VM firmware. now im rocking hboot eng 1.4.200. only thing with jupwhateverabear is the instructions dont prepare you for it asking if you want custom jphboot. i said no. ended up saying soff locked 1.5, then i used the jphboot and it said jupowhateverabear but didnt say whether it was locked or unlocked or relocked. now with hbooteng the line where all that crap would be isnt even there.

great but why would i want the VM firmware? isnt the whole point of the juopunutbear thing to keep hboot 1.5 but with s-off?
I did it and it works. I extracted the files needed for the process, put it on my desktop, and followed the directions. I also watched a YouTube video on how they did the same steps on a HTC Amaze, so it was simple. I used a coaxial cable to do the process, shaped it as a "U" shape, then performed the steps. Did not brick my phone and only did it in one try.
right so what do i do with the extracted files besides the .exe?
theres the .img, .zip, and two .txt
typically you use the .img with fastboot and the .zip in recovery for a flash install but i dont see those steps in the instructions at all.

The way I did was to create a folder on the desktop. Then put all of the files inside the folder. I opened the exe and made sure my phone was on fastboot usb. Then wait until it tells you to do the wire trick. The wire trick is all about timing. If it fails the first time, just run the program again. That's how I did it.
so you did nothing with the other four files? ran the exe and it took care of the rest?

Yes. I also used a spare SD card I had laying around that got corrupted but I did not want to use my 16 GB card, so I swapped SD cards. You can later format it if you like. Just follow the instructions on the website and you should be fine.
i could just backup my SD card and use the one i have? or will it ruin it? or could i just use NO SD card?

You can also backup your SD card so you won't lose anything important. I was skeptic at first, but I was getting tired of flashing roms through fastboot. So I saw the opportunity and went for it. Honestly, I recommend using a spare SD card (does not matter the size) because it will create a backup in the SD card.
I did it with SOS Rom. Issues afterwards, can't download anything over 1g to my sd card through USB and can't load custom kernels or kernels found in roms though fastboot or other recoveries or flash image GUI. I am s off now. Could be because I used a non gb Rom or stock one. I take the blame, just learn from my stupidity. Going to try to unroot and try again tomorrow

That's weird. I was on SOS rom before I did the steps. Once I was done, I flashed the SOS rom again with no issues. The only difference I've made was to use fastboot to get to the revolutionary recovery to reflash the SOS rom again.
I did it, process was simple, I chose to install the optional hboot

Not the right section to put this.
I successfully got S-OFF from a stock rom after a couple tries i admit. And yes, the instructions are a bot short. I even searched for this "instructional video" that it mentions. The only video was for the Amaze, i believe. But, still the same method of execution. And first, you must make a backup of your SD Card if you want anything on it. Just backup the whole thing. I did notice that the Juopunutbear method did something to me SD card, it was salvageable after a format tho.
Gotta mention, the first time I tried this (unsuccessfully), when I booted up because I had given up, I noticed that I got caught in a boot loop. Every time ending up at the juopunutbear screen. Then I got scared, only to madly search how to get OUT of a boot loop, of which I thought I bricked it. And let me tell you it is possible to get out of it. I'll try and get the site I found up.
After I finally got back to stock I successfully tried the Juopunutbear method, along with the wire-trick and finally got it up. I tried to mimic the video to get the right number of taps and length of time that you need to make contact with the ground. It finally worked and it's freakin awesome. Been waiting a long time for someone to find out this hboot 1.5 problem.
This is not the proper place to put this better to put this in the already started thread for Juopunutbear or possibly even General or something. There is no development being made in this thread.
Overall I find the wire trick less invasive and less of a hassle then the whole downgrade, brick, update, process. No offence to the guys that designed the process. Because I'm sure it took more than their brains to do but personally, I like the combination of hardware / software hacking.
+1 for the wire trick S-OFF trick

Can't quite get it....
Everyone else seems to do this with no problems, but this is my first root. Well im following this particular guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813818 and have done everything up to completing the wire trick. When I run ControlBear.exe the phone boots up then the cmd window says "second backup failed immediately" and no options ever pop up on the screen on my phone. Can anyone propose a solution? Since this is my first time rooting, it could be a stupid noob mistake but for the life of me its killing me to be so close yet so far to soff.

[Q] Getting "Error [140]: Bootloader Version Error" when I try to downgrade my HBoot

[Q] Getting "Error [140]: Bootloader Version Error" when I try to downgrade my HBoot
Okiedoke. So, I've got a little experience with the Evo 3D, but my last one was shoddily done and I don't think I ever even attained S-OFF on it, so when I had to get mine replaced by Sprint, I figured I'd follow a guide and do this thing right.
I first followed the HTC method of unlocking my bootloader and rooting the device, and then installed TWRM. I was using my phone for about a week before I just today decided I had enough time to look at these instructions and follow them. I successfully used this PG86IMG file (from this thread) to brick my device, followed the instructions from the original thread up to 27, and then realized I might have a problem on my hands. I can't boot my phone into the OS anymore (I get a sudden slowdown and then freeze of the boot animation before it restarts itself), but I can still get into the bootloader and Fastboot. So, I figured, why not just run the 1.13 RUU EXE in Fastboot? So I tried, but every time I try to run an RUU EXE (I've tried several, both 1.13 and 2.17 versions), after the RUU pushes the file to the phone and checks signatures I get error 140. I saw that Unknownforce said here that these instructions are "extremely dated" and to use the new ones in his newer thread, but I'm not sure where to pick up.
In short, I would love it if someone could recognize what the next step I need to take is. Ask me for any further information I haven't provided, I'll be more than glad to help you guys help me!
I'm having a similar issue, the only difference between our issues being that I get Error 131: CUSTOMER ID ERROR. Still working on how to fix it.

I tried this two different ways:
Got a 1.13 PG86IMG ZIP from Shipped ROMs, renamed to PG86IMG and put on my SD card, but my phone didn't want anything to do with it (it would load and check it, but then kick me back out to the main bootloader screen). Then I downloaded a 1.13 RUU EXE and extracted the "rom" file from it, renamed and slapped on card. Phone loads and checks correctly, but then returns the "Main version is older!" error.

Then your misc version didn't downgrade as it should have. Go to the main thread and flash the firmware zip file that's listed there, it will put you up to 1.58 hboot, then start that process from scratch.

Okiedoke. Just to verify (sorry for being thick), when you say "Main Thread" you're talking about this one, right? I ask because the only firmware I see there is for Virgin, and I'd rather keep Sprint firmware on my phone (unless it really, truly doesn't change anything but the name).
Also, your method requires launching a Linux distro, yes? Is it OK if it's off a live USB, like the Ubuntu installer OS? For some reason I can't get my machine to cooperate when I try to install a permanent Linux OS (something to do with UEFI settings, I think).

I actually ended up pulling an old laptop out from storage and putting Ubuntu on that so I can have an actual workstation. I ran the PG86IMG you mentioned, which got my phone back up and running with HBOOT 1.58. Then I followed all of your instructions to the letter, down to where you say to run the 1.13 RUU EXE. I tried running that on Ubuntu using WINE, but I kept getting an error. Then I tried running it on Windows 8, but I can't seem to get the EXE to detect my phone is connected. Then I even tried running the RUU in a WinXP virtual machine, but I can't seem to get that to work either. I then tried simply using the 1.13 ZIP as PG86IMG, but I'm getting the same error where after it loads and scans the file, it kicks me out to the main bootloader screen with no warnings or error messages.
At this point, what would be the better option? Should I attempt Revolutionary and get S-Off, then redo the instructions? Or should I do something else? Do I even need to install the 1.13 RUU? I assume I do, because my phone is unusable if I don't...

If the bootloader is not saying anything about the zip file it's not a valid signed zip. Find another copy of it or extract it from the ruu exe. Run the exe and open up the temp folder and search for rom.zip then rename to PG86IMG(.zip) and put on sdcard. Then try again. You need special drivers for windows 8, which is why that didn't work, the other two are emulated versions of Windows, and don't have the proprietary drivers to work properly either. So unless you have access to another windows pc that isn't 8, your only option is to get the sdcard the correct file.

No dice. I can't change my CID without getting an error, presumably because I can't HTCDev unlock (when I get to the final step, I get success on fastboot but never the prompt on the phone).

Oh my god, I feel like a dumbass for not pulling the rom from the EXE before saying anything o.o
Anywho, I pushed the 1.13 PG86IMG correctly, then ran Revolutionary on Ubuntu, and now my phone's S-Off and 1.40! Thanks so much! Hand to god, when I get paid I'm sending you beer money.

Haha, glad it worked :highfive:

[Q] Trouble rooting...LOTS of trouble.

Okay so I have been trying to root and I have tried everything I can find.
I have a fully upgraded phone so Revolutionary won't work for me out of the box and so I am trying to HTCDev unlock.
The problem though, is that I can't get Windows 8.1 to recognize my device. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times trying to get it to work. ADB works fine and can see the Thunderbolt but fastboot will not.
Nothing I have found has changed anything.
I also have a laptop with Ubuntu, would that work better?
You need to do it from a Windows 7 or lower computer. In order for the bolt to be seen in fastboot on Windows 8 it would require an update to the fastboot drivers on the phone which is very very unlikely.

Would trying it in Ubuntu work? Although almost all the tutorials seem to assume you are doing it through Windows.

Yes it should. Although, to unlock, s off and root ics on the bolt revolutionary isn't going to work straight up. You will have to downgrade the hboot version in order to be fully unlocked.

The tutorial I am following is leading me through unlocking with HTCdev, and installing SuperUser, would I still have to downgrade and use Revolutionary?
Sorry, complete newb.

Before you continue with the tutorials can you verify what android version you have for me?

Android version 4.0.4
HTC Sense 3.6
hboot 1.08
If any of that helps.

That is exactly what I needed to know. You need to go to infectedrom.com and use the guide that is there to unlock and s off. The problem with what you posted earlier is that even if you unlock with HTCdev your hboot is going to prevent revolutionary from working. You have to downgrade your hboot in order to use Revolutionary.

Can you give me a direct link? Because the one I was using last night from InfectedROM was just walking me through the htcdev unlock.
Edit: I found it...seems it has me load different things from the other one I was following.
It's the Lt. Belspur post. But I finally got fastboot to work! So it's looking promising. Thank you very much.

I see where you're stuck now. You can do it in Ubuntu but you may get stuck at some point. I would definitely recommend doing it using Windows 7.

Wrong forum. You should ask in the Kindle fire forums because I haven't owned one or even handled one in person for that matter. It might would help if you were on newer than xp. Vista at least. Idk though

Edit: I missed your other post, but that is exactly the tutorial I've been following. I'm near the end...see the following problem. :/
Okay, so I'm almost to the end...I'm to the point of putting the .19 ROM on my sd card and loading it into hboot.
What happens is that it recognizes it, loads it, checks it, and then goes back to hboot.
The suggestions from the post I am following say to try reformatting the SD card, or a different image. I have done both. Any other suggestions?
And by the way, thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

Make sure you don't have the file named PG05IMG.zip.zip
Windows, by default, hides well known file extensions, so it may have gotten zip attached to it twice, one of which is not visible.
So remove the visible ".zip" extension and try again...

Done. Still the same result. Goes through loading the file, checking the file, and then just back to hboot.
I'm having the same issue. Does anyone have a GOOD copy of this Zip?

Gotta downgrade the hboot to 1.4 and main version to 1.13 to be able to run Revolutionary S-OFF
Not the easiest process but you can do it. Lucky for you I just finished rooting my sprint CDMA with hboot 1.58 with the help of a couple other members. So I put together a step by step summary of how to do it. It involves bricking the phone intentionally, then booting up to linux and running the downgrade tool through the linux terminal, then upgrading the main version to 1.13, running REVOLUTIONARY S-OFF, then finally reupgrading everything back to stock(hboot 1.58 and main version 2.95)
Here you go, good luck :

I saw a way going into Linux bit dang.. I'm so bad with Linux anymore haha I'll take a look at your link tho.. I think I have Ubuntu on a flash drive some were... I'll have to dig around for it.. Sucks because it was on a lower version an my dumb self was like oh I'll update it.. Then realized I screwed up and just shook my head in disgust...
Use URTLiveCD 1.0 which is included in unknownforce's thread. Just one boot disk tool, no ubuntu needed

Yep you can do it through the ubuntu terminal. I did it this way too. You'll need to follow the instructions in unknown forces thread. Carry over the URT tool(ultimate.zip) to the home folder in ubuntu and run it through the ubintu terminal
Phone needs to be bricked before running URT

Did you brick the phone?
Yes you can use the trial version. You just need the linux terminal. When running the URT tool in linux, it will recognize the phone and give confirmation it has downgraded the bootloader...follow the instructions carefully in unknownforces downgrade thread

Pull power 4-5 seconds during the time when it says updating bootloader
Important to note; don't try and boot up regularly after downgrading with URT. As in just pressing power, you will get security warning and be back on hboot 1.58 and have to start all over again. Always vol down + power boot to the bootloader throughout the process.

It will take a few tries...you may have to brick a second time too, if URT didn't lower your main version as well. That's in step 3, you will need to check your main version before running the 1.13 RUU

It is a different PG86IMG file than the one he uses in the video. Smaller and lighter / less load time.
Be sure you are pulling the power at the time it is updated "bootloader" and not any other option in the list.
Yeah it's frustrating but it can be done
What is phone's carrier btw?
