No there is a bug with it. It doesn't show bars at all until you refresh the screen (off/on) really quick

The topic starter asked about blue/gray signal bars.
Also, I am not aware of any bugs with the signal bars on ICS.
This is a bug or may be a default setting in MiniCm AOSP Lite...in this rom the signal bars are always blue irrespective whether you have a workinng data connection or not....However in FXP CM9 etc it works just fine.....
On some ROMs, I had the bars blue, when I had connected to Google services. Didn't have any other problem with that.

Ive recently noticed that the network bars, next to the H+ logo change color from blue to white from time to time and then back again. Are these colors specific to anything, or mean anything?
Setup:
Kp gb beta 4
Root, sideload
Noattach batter notification mod

They turn white when data connection drops.

so what does it mean if the bars are blue (they are not always blue) and the box with the up/down arrows is white but you are transferring data?
Every explanation I have heard about the colors does not seem to cover all of it or to be correct. Is there a definitive source that covers both the color of the box and the bars?
I noticed this with the new market. My data dropped every time I started it. Bars turned white. Reboot, blue bars till I opened market, then lose data and bars turn white. Reverted to old market, problem solved.

blue bars to my knowledge has something to do with being connected to googles servers or something. i read it when someone asked the same thing about CM7 singnal bars turning green

I have to disagree. The I was able to browse and use data while driving white bars. The coincidentally I was underground in tor subway while driving those white bars.

There seems to be a lot of things going on with the colors. I have never used the new market app, so my colors have nothing to do with that. Well I install a gray theme so I have no colors at all now... Well maybe after the OTA is officially out we can find out what all the combination of colors of boxes and bars are.
gingerbread colors means the following:
green (or blue in this case) = connected to google's servers
white = not connected to google's servers
so just because the color is white does not mean you have no internet access, you may still be able to use data. it just means the connection to google services has been lost for some reason.

For some reason half of the time it is white, and the Market doesn't work. I have to turn on airplane mode then turn airplane mode back off to get the market to work again. I never had problems like this before the 2.3.4 upgrade.
I have read on this forum people talking about their 3g icon going green. I have had my vm optimus v for 5 days now and even when I am lucky enough to have 5 or 6 bars (seldom) I have never seen my 3g icon go green. The only thing I see is white and blinking arrows. Am I missing something...like a really good 3g signal.

green usually means you are connected to Google's servers white means you are not. You may have a sync issue but other than that you are not missing anything as long as you still get your gmail and notifications.
Also you may not have a mod on your phone that differentiates between connected to Google or not. (may always be white.)
the people talking about their icons turning green are running gingerbread, you are probably running froyo. The icons show the status of the google talk service,if it can communicate with the google servers,it will be green, when the connection is dropped, the icons will be white. This was added in android 2.3,so if you are running the stock rom or anything else that is 2.2.x,then they will stay white (or whatever color your theme is)
<edit> I love how all 3 of us replied while I was typing</edit>
Thanks
Thanks to all for the info. My first android phone...I did sdcard cm7 my nook color though ... so I learned some things along the way. Maybe it doesn't turn green because I don't auto sync. I am running stock, only had the phone a couple of days.
Gingerbread only?
If you're using the stock ROM (2.2) the 3g icon and signal bars never turn green. correct me if i'm wrong but I think that is a Gingerbread only feature.
Is anyone else having issues with the notification icons changing from blue to white? Just randomly on its own.

Easy answer, if you are connected to the 3g or a wireless network it is blue, if you lose data signal it is white

I'm talking about the whole icon. It turns into the Froyo icons. Im not tlking about the animation.

When you say notification icons, do you mean notifications that pop up like email or are you talking about signal strength, Wi-Fi, etc? In gingerbread, those icons change color based on whether your phone has a connection to google. In the DX2 they turn blue from white when you are connected. If you were stock android they would turn green. Watch when you first boot up.
Well the signal and wifi was wat im tlkin bout.. Makes sense wat you're sayin tho bout connected to.google cause it jus does it on the initial animation.. ie wen going from no signal to signal. Thnx

Tethered Nook Color showing signal strength excellent. However, no connection and no change of colour bars on the signal bars. Usually green bars for connection. Showing white. Un-tethered works fine. Had it tethered yesterday and working well, then added tethered GPS - maybe settings changed by that app? Any help guys - tearing my hair out here, lol - Mark

The scanning icon comes up every 5 seconds. Just wondering is this normal or what? Never showed up on my S2.
Also I keep getting a "connected to wifi network" notification at the bottom of my screen every few mins. Can't find anything to disable this.
Anyone in same boat?
It looks like its having problems keeping connected to your network, but its strange as you got full bar connection does it drop to nothing or is go very low when it reconnects?
This can be controlled with Rom Toolbox if you are rooted. I do it with my Note.

It sometimes goes off(wifi) when I turn off the screen.

if the wifi switches off on screen of thats wifi sleep policy, I don't know if thats under battery saver feature so if you have that on that could be why ill take a look.
*edit*
So I had a look if you go to Wi-Fi and click on it and navigate to advance you can change the "keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to always. It should stay on all the time now which hopefully should fix your problem

Tried that but still the problem is there. If I turn screen off for a min or 2 and turn it back on then there's no wifi icon for a few seconds. I thought having it on always means it stays consistently connected to wifi? This doesn't seem to be the case as the "connected to wifi network " message appears at bottom of screen again.
