[Q] Softkeys in CM 7 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I want to use softkeys in my phone, running CM 7. I installed Button savior, but I wanted the buttons in the statusbar. are there an way to install the softkeys?

Go to Settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Tablet Tweaks->Choose soft-buttons->Tick which ones you want
If you want that the soft-buttons show up on the left side tick "Soft-buttons left" on the "Tablet Tweaks" menu.
Good luck.

This setting does not exist =/

That's how I did in my phone and I'm also using CyanogenMod.

No, theres nothing wrong in your settings.your cm rom doesn't support soft buttons.may be your rom developers develop them in near future.

[Q] volume control to move cursor?

Hello,
I've recently installed the CM9 ROM (p4wifi v20) and so far its looking great! I understand that you can you use the volume keys to move the cursor when typing, in fact I think that I had this working once, but now I cannot find out how you set this up and get it working - any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Ackoman
The rom is aokp. Not cm9.
It is in rom control, under settings
oops. I meant the keyboard settings.

Ooops, yes you're right - I should have said aokp.
I still cannot find the settings you refer to I'm afraid - I've looked under rom control, and also in the keyboard settings (under language and input) but cannot see anything which refers to using the volume control to move the cursor. I'm probably just being dim. Would you mind sending a screenshot please?
Thanks,
Ackoman
go to inputs... look at all the keyboards... click on the settings icon to the right of the android keyboard.
the cursor setting will be in the middle. If you are not using the stock keyboard this may be why it is not working. Probably only works for it.

I'm totally confused by this, all I see is Text Correction, General, and Other options. I am using the default android keyboard.

Bizarre - I wonder whether something that I have restored to my tab after flashing is interfering with it. I'm going to try reflashing with the p4wifi v20 rom again and see what happens.
Cheers,
Ackoman
Hey Ackoman I seem to be unable to find the setting too. So its just not you.
I did I a full wipe too. :-$

Hey, well its good to know that I am not alone! The weird thing is, for a short while I definitely had this working, immediately after flashing with the p4wifi rom, I've clearly done something since that has knackered it.
I did flip back to the CM9 ICS kang rom using rom manager a couple of times, but don't see why that should screw up anything in the aokp installation.
OK, perhaps I'm getting somewhere now - just put a fresh installation of aokp on my tab, and lo and behold I've now got the option to have the volume control move the cursor when typing!
I reckon something I restored or installed on my tab was screwing it up - will systematically retrace my steps and see when it stops working again, and will beam back the results here.
Thanks,
Ackoman

Right, it didn't take me long to get it to stop working - I installed gapps.zip, and straight away that screwed it! So, next question is, should I not install gapps? Or perhaps I'm using the wrong version? I'm using the version that I downloaded when I put the CM9 ICS rom on.
If I shouldn't use gapps, how do I get market on my tab?

OK, I'm a tw*t - just re read the installation instructions for aokp, and it specifically says do not use any other copy of gapps. So, I guess that solves that.

I love this feature, but I do not use the default keyboard. Would be nice if there was an app that enabled this feature for all keyboards.

[Q] Remapping Menu Button Settings (help)

Can anyone help me how to enable the custom recent apps actions in "display actions gestures" without flashing a rom?
There are people who keep talking about making a mod for it. You'd still have to flash something though. I haven't seen anything official come from it though.

[Q] How easy it is it to enable expanded desktop on CM10

Hi guys
I know there are various AOKP ROMs that have enabled Expanded Desktop functionality... But I want to use it in standard CM10.
What tweaks have to be made to the rom to do this?

"Expanded Desktop" is available normally on Tablets and some other devices, it's normally an option available in the "Power Menu".
It appears in "Paranoid Android" ROM, and i know it is contained in standard CM10 builds.
Just figuring out how to enable, the option in the Power Menu..
I know in the CM10 forum people just say "Aaaah you dont need it"
but yes i WANT it..
and if it is a simple tweak as the code is already in there then i am happy to do this myself

i just like it, adds a little bit more screen real estate to apps, Apex Launcher can only hide the status bar whilst you are in the launcher.
I know people say "oh it's only good for Nexus Owners" but is there any reason why i cant? Paranoid Android has it so why cant i?
Maybe i'll ask the question in the Paranoid Android Thread
You could try tasker it'll be able to hide the status bar in specific apps and I'm sure cm10 has it as its options double check the options

there is no option in CM10.. but i think the option switched off .. and is only selectable if you have a phone with no hardware keys, cant ask in the Paranoid Android thread as it is temporarily closed

[MOD]AOSP enabled navbar - AOSP ROMS and GE only

To be clear, these will only work for AOSP ROMs and the GoogleEdition ROM.
Threw these together for myself. Love having the navbar but it is a pain to add every nightly I flash. So I threw this together. I made two versions. One simply adds the navbar and disables the capacitive menu and back buttons (with them active the navbar becomes nearly impossible to use) and triggers the navbar. Fear not, this mod triggers the in app menu overflow access and for that matter you could then create a menu on the navbar. I couldn't automate disabling the backlight so that will still need to be disabled via settings>advanced>sensors. I also made a version that changes the device DPI from 480 to 360 (my preferred DPI).
Download - AOSP_navbar_enabled.v3.zip
Base version above now allows OTA survival. Will reapply itself after each nightly.
Download - AOSP_navbar_enable_360dpi.zip
Download - AOSP_remove_NAVBAR.v3.zip
Here is the method to inject changed into the build.prop that I used (found here)
On the GoogleEdition ROM it does not support disabling the capacitive button backlights natively so the app from the following thread is needed

A fixed navbar taking up space precious on a small display seems Nexus- like. Stop this abomination NOW! Instant S4 mini (comparable display space usable for apps).

Of course you are welcome to your opinion!! And in part I agree. That is why I run at 360dpi, that way it has less of an impact on the display. I know it is not for everyone, but choice is the spice of life.

Thanks for this. Is it possible to only activate the in app menu overflow without adding the nav bar? It's so much more intuitive to have that, rather than guessing whether or not the menu button will do anything within each app (the whole reason google got rid of the menu button in the first place).
I wish I knew how!! To be frank, when you enable the navbar and disable the capacitive buttons it activates the menu overflow within apps all by itself. Must be part of the navbar framework. But let me look into it. I MIGHT have an idea but it would be ROM specific, not a general mod like this. What ROM are you running or would like such a feature for?

Running both the Verizon Google Edition ported rom and Clean Rom. Appreciate it, but don't bother putting time into it if it's ROM specific. What you have posted here already is helpful enough!

I will try for the GE port, it should be an easy mod. These don't work on stock touchwiz as it doesn't have the needed framework for the navbar. For some reason Samsung gutted the navbar from their source

Thank you my friend, I'll give it shot today!
Oh it works very nice, but there are some cases (like tapatalk) where the menu would instead be within the navbar so this is not a capacitive menu replacement

Awesome job man. Now I just need to be able to set the physical home button to menu for short press and go full screen (no navigation lights) on long press. Think that is possible?

[Q] miui v5 softkeys?

i recently flashed the miui v5 rom uploaded by chummydays. Apparently capacitive buttons on my optimus do not work, so i have been using apps to enable softkeys. Now with the miui rom i have used apps, used the build.prop method to enable softkeys but i havent got any success as i get systemui fc everytime. please help!
:/
ChummyDays said:
I tried this also. I used Mi-Tools to enable them but it it ends up in a constant systemui crash. I am not a developer so i cant implement a fix into the rom. Sorry :/
You should try one of those floating softkeys apps from the play store and see if that works.
Do your capacitive keys work in any other rom?
