[Q]Memory Card Dead? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I have a Class 2 SanDisk MicroSD, everything was just fine untill when browsing (Opera Mini) a notification popped up stating "Blank SD card". I tried the card in a Nokia E52, it didn't read it. Asked for formatting. Connected to PC right away and formatted, now I'm left with 30.6MB of space.Used all sorts of formatting tools, from cmd to 3rd party softwares. It shows total space as 30.6 only. Phone still won't read the card, and when inserting in PC asks for formatting every time.
Any ideas as to what happened? Googled for the solution, most of them stated SD Card as dead. Anyone out there who has come across this problem?
P.S:I ordered a 16GB Transcend Class 4 Card 5min ago. Still I'd like to know as to what happened to My card.
P.S 2: I had link2sd installed, and NO, I did not give swap space.Sd-ext also not readable.Did a wipe (Curiosity ) still didn't work.
Help Appreciated

Your SD card died probably from
1) Overload of the data processing from the SD card
2) Your SD card is worn out. Happens to Class 2 SD cards.
3) Make sure that the brand is reliable
4) Format your new SD card once every 7 months to make sure that your SD card is not infected with a virus. Scan the SD card from time to time.

[Q] MicroSD card issue

Hello there,
I just bought a 32GB Class 10 Samsung MicroSD card.
After inserting it, I made sure the phone sees it, and the computer sees it.
So I started transfering files to it...
Every time I try to transfer files to it, the cards sort of unmount, the computer stops seeing the External/Internal storage drivers info (0/0 KB and no files).
I realized I might be needing to format it, so I went to recovery and formatted the external card. Still no good...
If I don't try to transfer files, the internal sd card still works fine.
Am I formatting it wrong? or some other issue? Did I buy a faulty card?
Thanks!
P.S. Some info incase needed:
Using Galaxy S2 obviously, Resurrection Remix ICS 4.04
My PC is running XP SP3
[edit]
Added some pictures to demonstrate what I mean.

Pic 2: The error I get, doesn't mean much except that the pc doesn't recognize the storage device, but just for the heck of it.

If unsure about the quality of your SD card google for h2testw. It is a Windows test software you can use to test your SD card.
Tried formatting it... still no good.
And h2test tries to copy a file repeatedly and after some time it also gets stuck like I do manually...
I was running into the exact same issue as you with an SD card awhile back. Tried many, if not all of the suggestions listed here. Sometimes, the cards just die on you, especially at the most inopportune times...

Open CMD
Type format [letter_of_external_card]: /x
ex.
format E: /x
and wait.
Then format again (through Windows Explorer) with this settings:
FAT32
default allocation size
fast formatting checked
and share the results.

Failure of h2test is normally due to defective hardware.
For SD cards I do not really know but when it comes to USB sticks there are many around that are just cheap crap. You could for instance buy a 8GB stick that will happily accept 8GB of data but only store 4-6GB!. This is where h2test comes into play: it will not only write but also read and therefore check if the data written was really stored in the flash.

Class 10? That card might be just too fast for your hardware.
I'm using Sandisk 32GB Class 4 and never had any problems.
I have tried some Class 6 and Class 8 cards with very various results.
Only class 8 card I found correctly working in my device was Memorex, but it was only 4GB.
So I gave up on fast cards...
its fake or corrupt, did you buy the samsung off a retailer , you always test flash with h2testw before you use it, speed is not the issue,i got a class 10 32gb i had many 16,256,4gb fakes, only 3.7 gb usable droped down to 1kb write then windows couldnt read the storage so you reformat again.

Problem with 4GB micro SD Class 4 on Android

Hi Friends,
I am using Karbonn A9 (Without Rooted) & micro SD Card - 4GB class 4. I can transfer the files fine b/w PC & Card using USB cable. But, now-a-days, the files copied to sd card doesn't appear after usb unplugged from PC.
Also, the files deleted from PC, appears on SD Card, when removed. Please help me.
Have you tried to format your sd card?
I have have never had problems with class 4 sd cards until recently. I have had to buy all class 10 sd card for all of my devices that I have upgraded to ICS/JB. I don't know why, but I started getting all sort of problems flashing, saving, FC's. It was really weird. I didn't realize that it was the sd card until I switched the sd card in my tablet (with was already a class 10) to my phone. With worked fine in my phone, then my tablet started acting crazy.

SD card stopped being recognized abruptly

Hi
My Xperia Z2 tablet stopped recognizing the SD card. It was perfect before turning it off. When I check "storage" under settings it says mount SD card. Nothing happens when I try to mount it. Is this an SD card issue or a tablet issue?
Thanks

My card is Samsung 64 GB Class 10, bought from ebay. I had a movie on the card which I was watching on the tablet last night. This morning however, the tablet did nor recognise the card. All it says under "storage" is mount card, and i tried mounting the card but nothing happens. The card was not formatted on a computer, but erased by the tablet before being used.
The reason I mentioned ebay is because, according to google, many cards on ebay are fake. I'm only hoping it's the card not the tablet.
Thanx
What File Manager are you using? This happened 2 times on my Xperia Z Ultra and 2 HC 10 32 GB cards were destroyed...but it happened only by using Total Commander, since that time I do not work with him anymore and everything is fine...

I did not install a file manager. The tablet came with File commander, and that's the one I use.
There are a lot of fake/faulty sd cards on eBay, try it in a different device.

My card is exactly the same (I think) Samsung miniSDXC 64GB. Bought from a normal retailer. Similar problem to yours (I think)
I have not been able to find a solution.
The SD worked fine for a couple months. I notice there is no click upont pressing the card in (as the Sony manual describes) but it seems to sit a fair way in. Sometimes when viewed in Settings the card is visible but never when the phone is plugged into a USB port of the computer. Mostly it shows instantaneously when you push it in and then dissappears as quickly and the request to mount a card shows.
On one of the few times it stayed visible (not with the USB cable in) it showed about 12GB used. It seems to have been coming on and off intermitently during use. Accordingly, some photographs end up going to it and then not being accessible and some, or most, just end up in the main phone memory. This is assumed as a number of photographs taken are not showing. I have sent them from the phone main memory via dropbox as the computer can access none on the phone at all...perhaps because I have pathed them to the SD.
Will get and try another SD card but one possibilty is that this may be a problem with the SD card housing in the telephone.

Micro SD problems in HTC One (M8)

I have a 64gb Sandisk Ultra SDXC card formatted in exFAT. I had been using the card in my NOTE 2 with no issues. I normally keep all of my movies, music, emulators, and ROMs on it so I can keep space free on my phone. This morning I got my phone setup the way that I wanted it and I decided to install the SD card into the new phone. Everything seemed to go okay, I got a message telling me that it was preparing the card, but after the message disappeared, the SD card was not recognized. There were no error messages regarding the card, it simply did not show any additional storage on the phone and all options regarding the card with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" were not accessible.
I took ejected the card and formatted it to NTFS to see if that would make a difference and when I reinserted it into the (M8), it recognized it as a blank SD card that was not in the proper format. It prompted me to format the card while still installed in the device, which it did without error. After the format was complete I received the same "Preparing SD Card" message that I received before, but after the message disappeared, the card still didn't show up as additional storage.
Through a root browser I have the option to enter extSD, but nothing I put on the card is there. I then took the card back out, installed it into my Note 2 and it worked with no problems at all. Finally I ejected the card, reinstalled it in the (M8) again, it gives me the same prompt as before, but after the message disappears the additional storage does not show up and all options with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" are inaccessible once again.
I have tried the fix found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700310 to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening and is there any way that I can solve the problem?
Phone Info:
- HTC One (M8) 32gb
- Unlocked Bootloader
- Rooted Stock KitKat 4.4.2
- Jmz WP Removal Custom Kernel
If you have a USB card reader, try formatting the card as FAT32 with your computer.
I believe most cards come pre-formatted as FAT32 by default. I've always just put the cards in my Android devices without any formatting, and they work just fine.
Not sure why the device's default format didn't work, but possibly formatting on a computer will get it working.
It's possible that SD may be dying.
I had a 32gb card that a friend left with me to fill with movies/etc, but since I wasnt going to see them for a while, I decided to use it with my old LGOG. Not 3 days later, I get what you described, and now the card isnt even seen by Windows.
Even with formatting the card, it would work again for a few minutes, but as soon as I tried copying more than ~3 gigs, the card would go corrupt again.
SD cards dont last forever yo.

I just tried it out a few minutes ago. I don't know why, but it's working perfectly fine in Windows, a Note 2, S3, and an S5. I have no idea what's going on, but no matter what I try, nothing makes it work on this phone.

I was able to get the card formatted form exFAT to FAT32 and it looked like it was going to work, same with NTFS. I inserted it into the phone, waited for it to prepare the card and this time I got a message telling me that the SD Card was damaged, but I could format it in the phone. I followed the instructions, just as I had before, it went through it's thing, got to the part where it attempted to mount the card, appeared as though it was going to mount, and then nothing, just like with everything else. I have no idea what's going on.
I ran some tools on it and the card appears to be in good condition, so I have no idea what to do. I don't know if it's the phone, or if it is the card. I'm thinking about buying a 128gb card, but I'm afraid if I do, I'm going to find myself in the exact same position that I'm in now and out a lot of money to boot.
I'm loosing my mind with this thing.
Surely you must know someone that has a MicroSD card you can try. Trying another would pretty much eliminate the card as being the issue (and possibly the card tray or similar component on the phone). I have at least 2 "spare" MicroSD cards laying around.
I had a similar problem few weeks ago and I did format my 64gb card with GUIFORMAT on my win 7 PC and since then no more problem. Here is the link: http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/323-gui-format-fat32-drive-formatter/
Thank you. I'll give it a shot right now.

You, sir, just won all my Internets. I don't know what it was about that app, but it worked like a champ the first time around. I don't get it either. I had used so many tools to get it to FAT32, but this one did the trick. I formatted the card, inserted it...was totally waiting for it to not work, and I noticed "Unmount SD Card". I read it and thought "hmmm, that's not right", lol. Then it dawned on me that it worked. Copying folders over to it now. Thanks so much, bud. I really owe you one.

Nice. I've heard that the native Windows formatting tool is not the best (although its always worked fine for me), so this might be one of those instances.

[Q] SD card formating aborts abruptly, anyone can help?

Hi partners! This is my first post here.
I have a Moto E LTE, installed Surnia on it, and it worked perfectly until now.
I've been using it only with the internal Storage, but now i wanted to expand.... so i bought a Kingston 16GB Micro SD Card Class 10.
I turned off te phone, inserted it, turned it on. The card was detected... I had to pick between using it as a Internal or External storage... and here's the thing. Either option follows with the formating of the card, and in both cases, the process abruptly ends at 30%. After that, the card is no longer readed by the phone.
I can remove and reinsert the card, and it will read it again, but the process still ends abruptly at formating.
Any clue? Any help?
I would be very thankfull.
I've search previously to make shure no one else posted the same question and i didn't find it. If it was answered in the past, im sorry i didn't find it.
Thanks so much, and excuse my bad english.
Pablo from Argentina.
Hey Pablo, 2 cases, bad formatting or bad card. Use a Card reader on your PC and format the card separately using FAT (choose the full format option), this will help identify if the card is physically damaged, if all's well, then put the card in your phone and choose the formatting option and most likely should work. If the formatting fails, most likely you have a bad card, google for other low lever formatting utilities to see if they can identify any bad sectors on the card.
Use Caution read up on what Internal and External storage well before you choose one of the options. Search for term Adoptable storage on Marshmallow and should give you a good idea.
