[Q] Cant boot into ICS roms? - HTC EVO 3D

I flash one of the new ICS roms and it cant load into it. it boots up properly and everything and when it reaches the lockscreen it freezes and reboots. and it keeps doing that. Whats going on id really like to switch over to ICS already. Im on my 3VO CDMA with Hboot 1.50 S-ON unlocked via HTC. and im currently using Meanrom 4.2 as my daily. if that means anything.

lots of discussion about this
for your phone to boot a REAL linux 3 kernel, your ADSP firmware needs to be updated.
you can try just flashing ADSP via hboot (AT YOUR OWN RISK)
there are firmware packages around that are for virgin mobile. some people have problems with it, some dont - i personally didnt.
you can try to delete everything from the firmware zip except adsp... (again AT YOUR OWN RISK)
it is unknown if ADSP itself needs the other firmware to be updated or not.
it is also unknown if the rom itself is dependent on the other firmware images inside the zip.
search around here, you cant miss the discussions about the this firmware package - since ur flashing a virgin mobile firmware package onto a sprint phone..there "may" be issues. research, and flash at your own risk.
what i do know for 100% is this:
adsp.img is a md5 match for what is on my sprint phone that i did not flash the virgin mobile firmware on - so adsp is good for sprint
i cant repeat this enough: i DO NOT KNOW if adsp will require, want, or need any, some, or all of the other firmware images in the zip file.

So i think i am getting lost and I really want to be careful before i re-start my crack flashing habits again.
I flashed senseless ics, loved it, but wanted to go back to gb. So i went back to senseless 1.1, extracted boot.img, and adb pushed and flashed then did a nandroid back up and every thing is A-ok .
Here is my confusion.
What problems are ppl refering to with Mainver? ( what is that even )
Why do ppl have to RUU ( again what is it)
is my method right ? Which is : if the rom came with an auto script to flash from hboot then hurray, if not, then flash boot.img from adb via fast boot and flash to my liking ?
the only roms i gave been on so far : cleanrom 1.5.5, inefebellis, senesless 1.1, senseless ecs, then back to senseless 1.1 via nandroid like mentioned.

ruu is flashing stock. method is right with the boot.img which is also the kernel but without other kernel files found in the flashable zip. If the rom doesnt have the boot.img u can also use cleanflash tool to flash the kernel/boot into your current rom, restart, then wipe/flash rom

RUU files are the official software releases from HTC.
RUU files are signed. (They give proper "official" codes to hboot to get past the s=on security)
This means that they can flash all parts of the device, even the bootloader and radio firmware, which we can not normally flash because it is write locked. (do to s=on we can't flash them even with root)
Sometimes people have issues and need to get the phone back to pure stock so they use the RUU.
Mainver is data on the software version number of the kernel (I believe... it may be for some other part, either way it is version info)
Think V1... V1.2... V1.5... V1.5.5
Because of s=on we are not allowed to "downgrade/revert" to older software versions.
The leaked ICS build has a newer Mainver, some people flashed the leak unmodified, and that changed the Mainver info. Now they need to use a special trick to trick the s=on security to allow flashing of older kernels. The ICS ROMs we have now, have been modified so they do not change the Mainver. This makes it easier to go back to GB or switch to other ROMs.

New to Rezound/ help with rooting

okay well verizon is sending me a certified replacement rezound for my thunderbolt tomorrow (or this morning whatever), and i am wanting to root it and flash newts sense 4 rom (or any sense 4 rom, suggestions?), but im finding it to be a whole lot more complicated than the root/s-off for both my thunderbolt and dinc2. Everywhere I look theres a different method and none of them seem to be as simple as im used to with the rooting of multiple replacements of my other phones. I'm wondering which method is the best to us, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504824, which is the all in one tool, or http://androidforums.com/rezound-al...ys-noob-friendly-root-guide-start-finish.html, which is a manual method. Also, i may be seeing this wrong but neither of these give s off so should i use http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear-public-beta-0-1/ which is a beta s off for the rezound. any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Also, a question with flashing, is it the same process as the tbolt and dinc2, because in newts dl it has a bootimg to flash and i have seen where other people who say to flash another zip that is old firmware patch, and i never had to do anything with either or those on my old phones.
Basically i just want to be able to flash ROMs so yeah the best way would be great to know. Thanks in advance and sorry for citing a different site than xda
Basically First of all you have to go to HTC Dev and unlock your bootloader and install amon-ra recovery. Flash a SuperSu or SuperUser .zip via recovery to gain root on the stock rom. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled and you can attempt S-OFF.
S-OFF is not complicated at all just time consuming because of the wire trick which has to be timed just right. Once you have gained S-OFF flash one of the ICS radios ... I posted the last two new ones in the radio thread (under the development section). Once you have updated your radio go into recovery and flash which ever sense 4 rom you like. Then if your sdcard/internal are being recognized you flash either oldfirmware or gb fix to change the mount points.
All the files you need to download are
ADB
HTC Sync Drivers
unlock token from HTC
Amon-RA
Su flashable zip (Superuser/SuperSU)
JuntoBear zip
Radios
ROM
SDCard Fix if you have those issues (old firmware or GB fix)
Since the OTA ICS firmware 3.14.605.12 10RD is on my phone, i wont need to flash any ICS radios correct? and also the JuntoBear has a file for the (3.14.605.5 ICS Leak) but not the official update, should i use it anyway?

.5 and .12 have the same firmware, so the JuntoBear software is the same for them.
thanks to you guys im running sense 4! thank you guys so much for all the help. I had a bit of a scare when getting s off but it ended up all good!

Help with Mean ROM ICS 2.6

i've been wondering if anyone else has been having any issues with mean rom ics, i've flashed it twice, and even done a full wipe and everything. but it seems every time i restart (or the phone powers down) i go through about 6 - 10 crashes before it can run stable enough for me to use it at all. has anyone else had this issue or have this issue and can shed any light on what could be causing it?
Strange. Are you s-on or s-off?
Read, Search, Read again, ... Then Ask with Tapatalk 2
Im s-off via Juopunutbear. My phone came with bootloader 1.50 but I updated for ics using what was posted Here, so I could retain s-off
I was having some odd things happen when I first moved to MeanROM 2.6 as well so I flashed the 2.89 RUU when it became available to make sure that the software and firmware were completely in sync. That's pretty easy to do if you are S-OFF since all you have to do is connect your phone to a Windows PC and run the RUU.exe, then flash a custom recovery and optionally a different bootloader.
Things seem to be a little smoother for me after flashing the 2.89 RUU as a base.

but isn't flashing via bootloader the firmware bits doing (the long-ish way) the same thing as what the RUU would do? I'm still on the stock HTC bootloader for 1.58 because i was updated to it from the firmware bits, but if the RUU does something extra then maybe i would benefit from flashing with it. but i mean i also have MIUI 2.8.17 and i installed it (after i was able to use my phone) through boot manager a few weeks after installing MeanROM and booting to it yields me no issues of crashing or anything. do note its based off (supposedly) the GSM port for the E3D as well as files from the sprint/htc ICS release

There's no guaranty that flashing the RUU will fix anything but it did seem to help on my phone. The RUU flashes both the stock ROM and all the firmware, including the bootloader, so it makes your phone 100% stock except for the S-ON/S-OFF radio security and bootloader locked/unlocked status. It won't change either of those, but you must have your bootloader locked (or relocked) to run the RUU if S-ON.
After running the RUU.exe you can flash a custom recovery and bootloader if you want. It should be the same as returning to stock and taking the OTA update, but flashing the RUU.exe is faster and easier.

Hboot 1.5 s-on and I'm running meanrom ICS 2.6 .
I did the HTC unlock. Then installed Su zip from this site. Then I installed 4ext and rebooted into recovery...flashed the meanrom zip (it flashed the kernel that comes w the Rom ) and that was it. Now I'm on sw 2.89 build w the 3.0.16 kernel and like I said still s off and hboot 1.5
If anyone knows any where to get a kernel to overclock please let me know

i actually decided to give it a try after making a nand backup ofc, and still had the same issues :s after re-flashing from my backup though it seems to boot fairly stable now. even between switching roms im not sure exactly why but could it have been an issue with anything that is permanent between any rom?

2.13.651.1 Firmware Bits

Hey there. Today we were fortune enough to see such a beautiful update with Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1. Along came some new firmware. Here you'll find three flashable zips, one with the entire firmware package (new hboot, kernel, and recovery), one without hboot and recovery, and one just alike, but without the kernel, hboot, and recovery. I've tested the no kernel, hboot, and recovery version, and it was successful.
This updates your Baseband (Radio) to
v.1.12.11.0809, And your HBoot (Bootloader) to v.1.19.00.
Don't blame me if your phone blows up. I didn't make these, I am simply sharing them. I am here to help if you need it though.

Requirements:
S-Off
How to flash (install):
Download your zip of choice, and rename it to PJ75IMG.zip, and save it to the root of your external sd card. Reboot into bootloader mode, and accept the update. Let it run through, and wait for the successful message. Don't forget to delete the PJ75IMG.zip off of the root of your external sd card after updating, so that if worst case scenario, you can reboot into bootloader or recovery mode. Once you flash the latest firmware, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REVERRT TO THE PREVIOUS FIRMWARE VERSION. It has been reported to brick devices for good!

A: Revert to a kernel that is based on your rom version. You have a few options, 1: Restore a recent nandroid. Be sure to only restore the "boot" partition, and you'll be good to go. 2: Re-flash the kernel you were using. If you'd like, you could take the modules folder from the OTA, and push them over, replacing the old modules folder. (SYSTEM/LIB/MODULES/) - That is merely a suggestion, as others have stated, but I cannot confirm this, as I am running 2.13.651.1.

Is it possible to throw up a version with the kernel included as well, but not the HBOOT or RECOVERY for those of S-OFF that want to flash the kernel through bootloader as well?
If it is possible to just take the boot.img (kernel) from the one version you have up and add it to the one w/o the boot.img in it and flash that through bootloader; I can just do that...

Is there something that prevents flashing if your battery is too low? I tried and it failed so I redownloaded and tried again but failed. Admittedly my battery is at 13% right now though. Or would being on viper ROM prevent it for some reason?

Don't hold me to it but i dont think it matters what ROM your on because this is just firmware updates not a new ROM. i have the same problem sometimes when doing this kind of install method and the problem is that its named wrong. once you d load it and put it on your SD card go into es file explore and rename it in there. then try again and see what happens.

You should be 50 %, my recommendation is 100% before u start fooling around with ur phone, I learned that lesson the hard way when I bricked my phone with 30 % battery and it didn't want to charge, and ruu wouldn't run since the phone didn't have enough power. I eventually got the phone to charge but I had no phone for like 2 hours, you never know what can go wrong. Especially with radios they will brick ur phone for good.
I know from past experience with my evo 3d, running a new rom with a new base, and having the older firmware caused issues, but it shouldn't cause issues running new firmware with older rom base right?
I updated radio and firmware before the Rom last time with out issues

I'm pretty sure you have to be S-OFF to flash. You would get errors if you're not since these aren't signed with HTCs key.

[Q] SMS/Phone Issues when not using Sense

Howdy,
I've currently got an Evo 3D CDMA on Sprint, Revolutionary S-Off and downgraded HBoot. I'm experiencing issues when I try to run any ROM that isn't Sense-based, or any Jelly Bean ROM, I'm not sure. I've tried several of the "current" ROMs out there (Dirty Unicorns, PACMan, Wild for the Night, etc.) that have 4.2 and none of them allow me to receive SMS or MMS, or place or receive phone calls. I can apparently send SMS correctly, however, which is interesting. I've tried (and am currently using) booting up a Sense ROM just so I can update my profile and radios and all that jazz, but even after verifying my network settings are correct, once I go back to anything nonSenseical, I lose all my phone's capabilities.
I posted this over in the general forum, but nobody had anything intelligent to say. I'd really appreciate suggestions - anything helps!
I hate doing it, but bump for great justice. I know this isn't exactly the most pressing issue in the whole wide world, but I'd love an answer...
You never mentioned flashing a firmware.
It sounds like a radio issue.
Find your relevant firmware here:

Make sure you have a ROM ready to flash and a backup of any important files before proceeding. Can't remember if it wipes phone or not.

Nope RUUs and radios are different.
Flashing a radio won't upgrade your Hboot.
RUUs are rom packages from HTC which can for example upgrade your version of android, hboot etc
Radios refer to the android radio layer which is responsible for data connection, voice etc. Just make sure you flash the right radio for your location etc.
If in doubt which one to flash then ask. Flashing the wrong radio can brick your device.

Makes sense. However, when I downloaded the correct file from the link you provided, it flashed what very much appeared to be an RUU (trying to update my system, bootloader, recovery, etc.), and now my phone freezes at the HTC logo when it tries to turn on, and I don't have 4EXT installed on my device anymore. I'm currently trying to run the file through again, but it gets stuck at SYSTEM, unzipping and updating over and over again.
EDIT: All right, it now says OK on every bit except for "SYSTEM" where I see "Fail-UZ", and the 1st "TP" where it says "Bypassed."
All right, here's where I'm at now. After flashing this file to my device, my phone lost its recovery software and wouldn't boot, as well as not telling me "Locked," "Unlocked," "Relocked," or "Revolutionary" as it had before. I thought I might need to HTC unlock my device again, but flashing my unlock token didn't work, and I got an error when trying to install recovery software that the phone wouldn't allow it. I ended up flashing a 1.13 RUU simply to have something that works for now - currently when I boot into Fastboot I see HBOOT 1.40.0000 (which I had before), RADIO 0.97.10.0530, and I've got Gingerbread installed as my ROM. I'm going to try to reinstall CWM or 4EXT and put ICS back on at the very least.
EDIT: OK, when I try to flash Recovery I'm still seeing the same message "FAILED (remote: not allowed)." Apparently I've lost Root?
This is a strange one but from what your describing it seems that you have lost root.
If you can get an ICS RUU flashed and rooted you shouldn't have any problems with JB roms.
Edit: been doing some further research, these links may help.

So I ran a 1.13 RUU to get myself back to a working state, re-ran Revolutionary to get my "Revolutionary" banner back, and flashed a recovery. Then I flashed the 2.95 radios, and finally cleared everything and installed a 4.2 ROM with the latest gapps. Everything seems to be working, I can apparently call and text no problem - thanks for the tip on updating my radios.
