[Q] Phone help please. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I pay for service and purchase my phones through my work, so I am restricted to AT&T. I have used the iPhone 3s and am currently using the 4S. However, I have not been happy with the tiny screen and am much happier using Android on my tablet. I am going to buy an Android phone, albeit off contract, and I need some feedback. First, this is both personal and business use. I am not particularly into the "latest and greatest" mode, I just want good strong performance, stability, a good screen and also a decent camera is fairly important. I keep approximately 400 songs, approximately 500 contacts and no more than 100 pictures on it. I don't keep any books, games or videos on it. My heaviest use is phone and then e-mails. Next biggest area is web browsing and texting. My choices are the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, the HTC One X or wait for the Samsung S3. I can save anywhere from $50-$100 on the S IIs over the newest gen phones. Would the S IIs serve me as well as the others? Would the One X's 10 GB usable storage hamper me? Is the new S 3 that much of an improvement over the S II's to warrant waiting and spending the extra money? I will probably eventually root whatever I get. I don't mind spending what I have to on the right device. What are your thoughts? Please move to the appropriate forum is this is in the wrong location.

[Q] Opinion sought on best CDMA droids currently on the market.

I'd appreciate any hands on user opinions.
I did fondle a Droid 3 tonight as I've come to the idea that a keyboard is a necessity as often when posting on forums the cursor gets away. Are the post-2.2 android OS above and beyond that making touch only keyboards sufficient? If not, then I likely prefer a keyboard, although it would be nice to be able to do anything I want, without one.
Thanks for any input or sage you can share.
Does anyone know a site that has spec comparisons with current offerings' specs?
I've been making out well with a rooted and over-clocked Droid 1 bullet-proof work horse for some time now and I suppose I'm ready for faster and fresher. The AMOLE displays are nicer, that's for sure. I'd also like a 4g phone.
It sure would be a nice addition if the phone section of this site had the individual phones specs listed under their pictures with as many details as possible.
It does annoy me when I shop for electronics and they just don't show all the specs on all the tags. Some will tell which processor the device has, some will tell ram spec, some won't.
Same with lots of electronics that basically all have the same specs, even energy star numbers, some tv's have it displayed, some don't. Some tell these specs, others that have the same specs available, just aren't mentioned as to their numbers.

[Q] getting a new phone - 250 max, what should i buy?

hey guys, first post in a while, but here goes.
Im in the market for a new mobile phone. I dont mind what network I get the phone on, as I can have it unlocked for a fee, but if it is on o2 to begin with or unlocked it makes things much easier.
so my budget is £250 max, I was looking at getting a brand new phone for a change rather than a used device. i like watching movies on my phone (travel often, and study AS levels at school where i have 11 free periods a week )
what do you recommend? I need a good screen, 4"+, full touchscreen, a good camera, and a large amount of ram to keep up with app switching etc.
My first thought was the Motorola Atrix, I love the fingerprint reader, I think it is a great feature that I will use. plus, the phone is 229 from play.com with 10 quid cashback through quidco.
can you guys think of anything better? must be dual core too by the way, over 1ghz if possible, the atrix is 1ghz dual core with tegra 2 graphics, which is great.
Preferably something with an upcoming ICS update, which the atrix lacks
thanks in advance.

im about to take the plunge - anyone got any last ideas? 220 is what im about to spend on the atrix, dual core 1ghz with fingerprint reader, excellent battery life, android 2.3 (ICS update confirmed) nvidia chipset... please help i dont want to regret my decision!!
Atrix is a good phone, you won't have any problems with it
You have limited options since you had a budget and for that price, I think you're doing ok
hope this helps

[Q] Android Phone Recommendation

*Didn't mean to post this in the Development and Hacking forum. Please move to the appropriate place*
Hi Folks,
A little background.
I'm a recent convert to Android. I've been an Apple guy for as long as I can recall, and an iOS guy since the first iPhone.
I'd wanted an iPad since it came out, but I just couldn't justify the expense for something that I really didn't need.
My solution: Get a Kindle Fire.
I liked the KF well enough with the standard Amazon/Android bastard OS. However, about a month ago, I rooted it and flashed it with ICS. Which I love.
It's about time for me to get a new phone and I'm sure what to do. . .
I'm mulling over three options at the moment.
The HTC One X - I can walk down the block to my AT&T store right now and pick one up. The phone looks pretty damned nice. From what I can tell, it's not quite as well equipped to handle a variety of video formats out of the box and it doesn't have a microSD card slot. I don't care too much about the video playback. I have MX Player and it's been able to play anything I throw at it and I don't really foresee myself watching many movies on my phone. The lack of a card slot is kind of a drag, but with Google Drive and DropBox, I ought to be okay.
Samsung Galaxy S III - The only drawback to this is a minimum of 2 months to wait, and no assurance that my carrier will offer it all (although it seems certain that it will come to AT&T). But, as I mentioned above, as far as I can tell the only real benefit to the S III is the card slot.
Samsung Galaxy S II - I can also get one of these just down the street, and for $100 less than either the HTC or the S III. My only fear is that, being a gadget guy, I'll quickly come down with some phone envy when I see people sporting fancier Android and iOS phone down the line. I've pretty much convinced myself not to go for an older phone, but not entirely.
Does anyone have any keen insights, given my background and position?

[Q] Cannot choose between to tablets

Hello guys!
I want so bad a tablet and I'm a very tough choice. My two choices are: Galaxy Tab Plus 7.7 (P6800) and Galaxy Tab 2 (P3110).
The matter is: while the P6800 costs around USD600 on Brazil, P3110 costs around USD300, but I think that P6800 is pretty much better in every aspect than P3110.
All I really want is a good tablet to play some games, read, browse on internet and stuff like that. 3G is something I don't use, so I don't care about it having it or not. In fact, I care, because the models without 3G tends to cost a lot less.
So I'm gonna ask you: which one is best, for what I want? I was looking for the P6810, the same as P6800 but without 3G, but it seems that Sammy never sold it here.
I will get disappointed if I buy the P3110? Do you guys have any other suggestion to me? Please remember that the price range here is very different from the rest of the world.
I'm open for every suggestions you can have, the only things I require are good battery life (at least 1 1/2 day with average usage) and MicroSD port. Thanks!
Hm... no one here to give a little advice?
Simple rule: if you are going to decide between two products of the same company, buy the one which costs more (if you can afford)!

[Q] Opinions on Z4 Tablet

Hi, what is everyone's opinion on this tablet, are you planning on purchasing it?
It says on the first line of the forum:
********ATTENTION! NO QUESTIONS IN GENERAL*******
Clearly your question belongs to the Q&A section of the forum (Not to mention that it sounds like a vague and open ended question which is inherently difficult to answer.)
I can see that as a new member you have been posting all over the place like many new members do to reach a higher member status, and nothing wrong with that, but please consider that if we don't try to post judiciously and in accordance with the forum rules the general organization of the forum breaks and it will make it difficult for all the users to obtain information, especially in a forum like the Z4's which is still fresh and clean.
Thank you.
I've never owned a tablet but I'd say I'm 90% likely to make the Z4 my first. Nothing like starting with TOTL!
The Snapdragon 810 gives me pause due to the overheating rumors, even if they have been *mostly* debunked from what I've read. Still, I'm going to wait until it's been out for a few weeks and I've read some reviews before I make up my mind.
This has pretty much everything I want in a tablet. It's the perfect size, lightweight, has a nice aspect ratio (unlike Nexus 9) and resolution, water/dust resistant, microSD slot, 64-bit CPU, 3 GB RAM... Hopefully the battery life is good (specs indicate it will be).
My only question is whether Sony tablets are closer to stock Android than, say, Samsung TouchWiz (ick). Also I hope gaining root will be fairly easy (I assume it will since it won't be carrier-specific). I've learned some lessons from my Verizon Note 4, which remains un-rootable and I despise TouchWiz.
I am going to buy this awesome tablet....
I hope to pre-order whenever it becomes availabe in the US, if it ever does. Sony makes great tablets. Love my Z2, and making it even slimmer and lighter will only make it better, in my opinion. Plus the keyboard dock has me intrigued.
Ive preordered it, cant wait! I have the z3 and z3 tablet, the z4 tablet will replace my surface pro 3 now that MS office works very well on android tablets.
if my sweet wife lets me, I will have this tablet. I currently have the z1 and love it, can't wait to get the z4.
It is so much exciting using in Z4, if you add a whole key-board. I merely enjoy this particular.
Im using z4 tab for a week now, the screen is great, very bright and A bit bigger than my previous tab(z2) but with smaller size , very thin and light, just waiting for the protective case as its not release yet.....its also alot faster switching apps, loading, even wifi connecting is faster, when comparing the usage of z2 tab by using same app remote computer video streaming it sees the differences! Im looking for now a safe way to root.....
The tablet is nearly perfect. Definitely the best I have ever owned. No major issues and don't worry, the 810 likely will only overheat after using the camera and fancy filters(which I will never use). Day to day use or gaming and video playback causes no issues. Office apps work and look great. Screen quality is amazing.
