If you want a cool phone...get the rezound. If you want to complain about locked boot loaders get the Maxx. The battery is nice though.
<3 moto fans. The complain and complain about the same thing. Lol

i have played with razr (not hte maxx) and rezound. personally I like the razr due to its thinness and the overall performance. The rezound has a better screen but the screen on razr is also quite neat. Obvous the best feature with razr besides the thinness is the batter life.
I guess if you want a phone that has good battery life, hen razr is your choice. If you want a phone with greater software support, rezound is teh one.
The rez is the better choice if your looking for better dev support (S-OFF) and the hardware is also better IMO razor is nice because it's thin battery life always depends on how you use the phone plus if you get the extended you won't have problems and its not that noticeable like it is on the TB. But if you decide on razor at least wait till the hd comes out because it's the maxx with the better screen and camera I believe. Overall I would still choose the Rezound. I had a chance to get the Razor but I liked the Rezound more.

I respectfully disagree sir. I had the GNex. Switched to Razr, liked it alot more than the gnex just didn't care for the locked bootkoader. Maybe i got lucky but to me the rezound is by far the fastest. I love this screen so much, but I need something like a defender case but the screen is so sexy I use a barely there type tpu case. The camera I can't say enough about. If you change the setting to match your current t surroundings, it is far better than the Gnex or razr and I'd venture to say my iPhone 4S but maybe I got lucky. I expected to think it was just OK but I love it.

I own a Rezound and Maxx, the Maxx has terrific battery life and I like that it is thinner. I am running the newest ICS leak on it and Moto did a great job with it. You will be happy with the Maxx. The Rez has a nicer screen, better hardware and camera. The Rez also more developer friendly. If you like to tinker, then the Rez is a must. Both are great devices but I do like the Rez better. It is also cheaper and you get the cool headphones. Hope this helps.

I'm getting rid of my Droid 3 already and am trying to decide between the (coming soon) Droid 4 or the Galaxy Nexus. The Droid 4 is basically the same as the Razr but with a keyboard, which I love, but I'm wondering if the keyboard is a big enough trade-off for the Dev support...which the Galaxy Nexus is ALREADY getting TONS of.
Any indication of CM7 or CM9 being worked on by Devs for the Razr? If it works for the Razr, there's no doubt it'll work for the Droid 4...similar to how all Bionic themes/ROMs can be easily ported over to the Droid 3.
Thanks in advance.
Well the razr still has locked bootloader and all that ****e, so until ICS the razr won't see that much love, but we have root and a couple of good devs already here. Also the Galaxy Nexus ain't that much really, had it for 4 days and back with the razr

Yea? Could you give me some insight on the display differences? I know the qHD pentile is always crucified when compared to the SuperAMOLED, but I'm curious as to how much of a difference the AMOLED has. I've looked up countless picture comparisons online, but they truly don't do either of the displays any justice. Since you owned it for a bit, could you elaborate on it for me?
Also, what other factors made you go with the Razr? You're just the person I was looking for =)
Thanks in advance.

I can tell you know that my first 2 razrs suffered big time with the black blotches, I got that pissed off I got the Nexus, after fiddling with it for 4 days it just didn't feel right, plastic and just felt crap, screen was amazing and ICS was very responsive, but I got the razr from day 1 and wanted to give it another go so I ordered another, this one is perfect in the screen and Motorola have done a good job on this phone, I think it feels good, looks the biz and the display is cracking, in other words I wanted to believe in this phone and it's delivered, at last

I've been battling back and forth on this...what to do when the GN comes out. I really like the Razr but there's one major deal that really bugs me...two, actually. The locked bootloader and it has a issue in the Android sys called 'suspend' that is killing the battery life. It could be so much better if it didn't have that issue but batt life is a huge deal especially with these smart phones that get so much use. I love the screen, love the build quality, how thin the phone is. Bought a killer cover for the phone from Verizon that has perfect grip to it, perfect size and a kickstand on the back that folds up when not in use. Really love the size of it! It's a kickin' phone but will it get Developer love like the GN will? Decisions decisions....
The Bootloader being locked is temporary. The suspend battery issue may not be an issue or it may be fixed if it is. If you like the RAZR and especially like it more than the GN then software shouldn't really be a buy factor as it will drastically change in the near future.

I have the same problem(screen) but I can live with it, I guess. Sometimes it disturb, but there is no challenger for it. HTC makes too identical phones and Sense sucks. Galaxy Nexus is too plastic and soft design makes me sick. But anyways this AMOLED is awesome! I can forgive these black "ink-marks".
They will came visible when colors are near this this and this

Yea, that battery life would be awesome although my rezound with the extended battery is working fine for me.
My boss just bought the maxx & after seeing how absolutely awful the pentile screen looks next to the incredible rezound screen I could NEVER buy the maxx......
Yeah man...Like the above poster said...Beats is sort of a gimmick but other than that this phone is amazing.
The lack of roms is sort of a downer but the screen is beautiful/battery life is legit/it's fast and just plain sexy.
I don't regret the purchase at all especially when it was on sale for 99$ and extended batt for 25...really can't beat that deal..
Ill like the rezound better once we get aosp.
I personally love the rezound. I went through the Bionic and Razr before finally being happy with a new phone. There are just too many things to list about how nice the phone is.
I will give you what I think is its highest selling point to me personally. A True HD screen

+10000 on this. For me...one of the biggest reasons I picked this phone was the dev and themeing community that came along with it. A few of those guys have been supporting my phones and their subsequent upgrades for a heck of a lot longer than my carrier did.
There is no lack of roms. This device has very active development. The choices of roms and mods are great. One of reasons I like this phone other than its dependability is all the great roms I can try out.

Only drawback for me is the battery so far. I'll stop short before I say the stock battery I got isn't performing as well as it should until I do more analysis.
And what is meant by is this smartphone all it is cracked up to be? By whose standards? I don't see it getting 5.0 reviews anywhere. HTC is quietly brilliant regardless!!
And I checked into the Galaxy sII as much as I did the Rezound and the latter is what I bought!
So I have cracked the screen on my Galaxy Nexus for a second time. I am thinking about getting the razr maxx with the insurance instead of another nexus. I have prob 5 friends w modded nexuses. The screen is sharper on the nexus but much easier to read in any kind of light from me on the maxx. The battery if amazing. I can avg 5 hrs screen on time on 3g alone. The camera is actually much better than I originally thought and takes nice pictures very easily but no camera is as fast as the nexus...although I have only seen a stock nexus actually work correctly in the camera Dept.
I miss ics as I have had it on many phones since last oct but the ics leak is good for the RAZR. Still great battery life there. I rooted mine and froze a bunch of apps today that I don't use but I get the same battery life whether I freeze them or not.
One mild complaint that you may have is the RAZR gallery has a terrible pinch zoom bug. I use quickpic for my gallery and froze the stock gallery along w a lot of other stuff.
In the end its a phone. Calls are clear. Reception is great. And it really last all day. No rebooting all the time. No errors. No problems here. I like that.

Having never owned a Nexus I cannot compare the two but can offer my opinions of the MAXX as it compares to many Android phones from my past. The battery is simply amazing, best I could have ever hoped for. I can abuse my phone (granted that term is subjective) throughout the day and still have some juice left when I go to bed at night. My dad only uses his for calls and his lasts 3-4 days consistantly.
The screen is OK. IMO it is far inferior to the GSII that I came from. If you look close enough you can see a slight screen door effect that looks rather grainy. Not as bad as my Photon was, but still not as good of a screen as I have seen in other phones.
Motorola phones are not known for having a big dev community. I saw a lot more dev activity when I had an EVO 4G, EVO 3D and GSII. That may be the deal breaker for you if you are looking for much more than an out of the box experience.
Having said all of that, if you want an extremely solid phone, then the MAXX can deliver that. My experience in reception is much better than anything I ever owned on Sprint or Verizon and I live in an area with great coverage.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I would love a gsm maxx razr, now it's only 4 USA and I'm out of the borders.
I like razr, gotcha XT910 in december. Bought it because its amazing hardware , but I can't say I'm happy stuck in 2.3.5 GB due locked bl. Others devices in same categorie like SGII, Arc S,, and HTC now are running ICS flawless. To us, we can.only hope get hands on ICS by Q2,, at least.
Also, this is my second razr, and tomorrow I'll leave it to motorola service center again. I've a reason to be disapointed.
Have top phones since 90's and this is far away my best phone ever. Moved to android (came from 'siri' phone) because it's very popular in Brazil, and overall razr design. But you need luck to get a razr with no problem at all, at least, those made here, all LatAm, have to say. I dont see guys from XT912 (you have one right?) complain' about it.
May be too late indeed to motorola unlock bl, SGSIII is on the way with a 1.8 Quade core....
The AdamOtler vdd seems a bit radical, but he made the point. Cannot comment an opinion without reffer to it.

Although the ICS leaks and ROMs are really good. They are not flawless. And won't be until the official release. Even the devs admit that. They all have bugs, albeit very minor bugs.
The big things for me was the HDMI out and the micro sd card. If you get a maxx then you get the awesome battery. While the dev for the phone is low right now, ICS is just around the corner and with a boot workaround here/being worked on I think the razr is the better phone.
both are great devices. so it depends what you want to do with each.
if mods, hacks, roms, flashing are your thing - Galaxy Nexus
limited tinkering - moto razr.
having said that, razr has better battery life. very lightweight. better camera too. plus storage is expandable.
I had the Nexus before I had my Razr Maxx.... Night and day. Radio was garbage in comparison on the Nexus, always bad reception. Battery life is SO much better. Razr feels much more solid. Aside from ICS, the nexus honestly seemed like a piece of junk when I got this.
Is cm9 available yet? Can you even flash custom roms?

Cause no Samsung phone has ever had problems. Give this video a break as Adam has no clue about the razr. He doesnt dev for it so he has no reason to talk ****. Just because they built it this way does not make it any less disposable than other phones. If it breaks and its your fault, then guess what, you fed up. I've decided to go with the RAZR simply because I'm really liking the slimness of it. Now I'm here to ask you guys what issues do I need to know about the RAZR and what should I be wary of when buying it. Also, if there are any ex-Nexus S users in the RAZR community, could you please let me know what you found lacking in the phone compared to the Nexus S? As far as I can see, NFC is the only let down, but I only used it once or twice. Thanks in advance!:good:
Edit: Sorry, just realized I posted in the wrong section. Please forgive my noon self, and move this to the Q&A mods please?

Since you are coming from the nexus s, if you are used to flash roms kernel etc, forget them. The razr have a lockedbootloader and few dev so is a bit a let down from this point of view.
If you don't care about modding then is a really good phone, is slim, very well build with a good reception. Someone say that the wifi is not that great i find it normal. The camera is not as good as many other phone.
Compared to the newest phone (like the htc one x or the galaxy s3) is slower but if you don't play game is still a fast phone.
So to sum up, if you can find it at a good price then is worth buying it (considering it you don't care modding, if you are buying android for modding then i suggest you to forget motorola)

I guess u are seing reviews when RAZR had GB? They have improved the camera a lot with ICS update imo
There IS development for the RAZR. Yes, it doesn't have an unlocked bootloader, but KEXEC is in development which will allow loading of new kernels. Currently, it's main issue is that CPU1 stays offline for some reason when booting up modified kernels.
Otherwise, there is a pretty good development community out there. CM9 is out for the RAZR as is MIUI. There are other ROMs as well. Again, it's not like the Galaxy which has an unlocked bootloader, but quality-wise, the phone is awesome. Excellent radios, fast and responsive and just thin like a razor!
If you can, you might want to look at getting the RAZR MAXX. Much better battery life than the Original (OG) RAZR. I have the OG RAZR and I can get pretty good battery life IF I don't play games. But, with some tweaking, I've been able to keep it going all day at work if I limit my use to texting, checking emails and some web surfing.
I suggest you spent a little more to get a Maxx. The extra battery really worth it because LTE is much, much more power hungry than 3G. Here in NJ I saw several listing for Maxx asking 350, and Razr for 275.

Thank you guys for the help! I'll definitely take the MAXX into consideration as battery life is a big point for me. As for the lack of development on the RAZR, I'll keep my Nexus around as a backup phone in case the development gets too slow.
By the way, does the RAZR/MAXX have any known defects or issues that I should check out when buying used?

very easy, check out the development section
The RAZR camera isn't that good. It comes out blurry sometimes. Pictures only come out decent in sunlight. And from time to time I experience lag. It's very annoying.
But going to a Motorola I knew I was sacrificing things. Now I got a reliable wireless radio phone and great battery in the RAZR Maxx and ICS, closest to stock ICS that isn't a google phone or a custom rom!
I had a Galaxy S2 on Sprint before this phone. That phone's camera kills the RAZR in video recording and taking still pictures. And I never EVER had lag on the GS2. My big beef with that phone was it had the worst wireless radio on it combined with Sprint's network, sucks.

I am jumping ship and moving on to the s3. I can't stand the data drops and many other issues with my razer. My question is...is the s3 a good choice? Ie good data, unlockable bootloader and good Roms? I just want to be sure I am making the right choice. Any input would be helpful.
Probably better to ask in the s3 forum.
Ignorance screams for attention!
Go to a general Android forum and ask. It is not good taste to ask what phone you should get to replace the phone whose forum you are posting in. We all like our phones and don't give up on them.

I did like the RAZR until my headphone jack broke and being shipped multiple certified like new replacements.

i have a s3 and my wife a razr maxx. what you will miss the most going from maxx to s3 is probably the radio reception. motorola in general has better radios than samsung therefore reception will be notably better. for instance, my phone and wife's phone side by side...i'm seeing -75db on her phone and mine has -92db. i know from gb to ics/jb can have a difference of up to 10db but still. 3db is double the gain. i can almost never get 5 bars (usually 2-4) whereas she usually has 4-5 bars (orange county has damn good verizon service). i've never dropped a call or had any problems though...and as far as lte bandwidth, there's a lot of variation but i attribute that more to external network related variables (load and such). from what i read, s3 has much more freedom when it comes to rom/kernel customization than the razr. i'm currently doing research into custom roms for my wife's phone for a reliable daily driver. i'm using the synergy rom with o/c'd ziggy kernel. very nice daily driver and much better than stock for me. maxx of course has better battery life out of the box. in order to keep up, i ordered a 4400 mah battery that added about 1/3" to my phone. i actually like the extra bulk as it felt too thin and flimsy in my hand. i came from a thunderbolt and that with stock battery is only ~1/8" maybe 3/16" thinner than my ext bat s3. for me, it's negligible for the batt life increase. s3 screen is notably better than the razr screen. wife likes my phone she wants one now. i might give her mine when the s4 comes out
also touchwiz vs motoblur i'd say motoblur is a bit better as it's a little more pure android than touchwiz. it's personal preference. i like the aosp/aokp roms too for pure android goodness.
