The worst thing that has ever happened - HTC Rezound

I have a project due tomorrow. After completing about 90% of the project my computer shuts down. It won't turn back on. I clear the cmos and all appears to be working fine. After using it for a few minutes it fails again. Another cmos clear. On. Fail. I give up. I have spent over 6 hours working on this and do not have the time to buy a new computer to try to.duplicate my work.
I would swap harddrives but the only other computers in the house are macs and I don't have the time money and tools to open them up and swap the harddrives. And if I wanted to do that I would have to reformat them for macs.
I really need help what should I do. I don't have the money for a new computer. Much less a new.CPU.

Oh ya. And this us a heat related failure and I was supposed to have a fan come in tomorrow.

It's guatenteed heat related and I have 300 watts to go around after the hardware is cheched in. 750 watts and 500 are harddrived CPU gpu motherboard and drives

Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium

Do you have an external hard drive enclosure? You could put your hard drive in that and then connect that to one of you macs to access your files.

It's encrypted so my windows.account has to be on and the macs don't have.Microsoft word on them. But thanks for the help. I'm trying the best I can but with no success.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium

In windows see if you have enough time to get the files to a none encrypted area, like a folder on the root of c or something and then on a Mac burn a Ubuntu live cd, try to the data.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA

And my 2 external drives are broken. By that I mean the adapter not the drive. I extracted the drives and they work.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium

If I turn it on it shuts down automatically and the files are encrypted. I found that they are because I have ubuntu and it could never access them.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium

If its a desktop we are talking about...why don't you just take the case off and stick a fan into it? It may give you enough time to transfer your work to a thumb drive. Just an idea

Is it the CPU getting too hot? You could apply new thermal paste.
One time a cpu fan inside a laptop failed me. I was able to fire it up and check various settings/copy files by using a shopvac in the blow configuration. I simply taped the tube to the air inlet and ran the blower.

1 pull the high end graphics card out, use a simple VGA card, that will drop your heat and power req.
2 I'd suggest using your backups but I'm guessing you never bothered with doing that.
3 why did you post this here? Your computer is not a smartphone.. There are much better forums for these types of questions...
Via my HTC Rezound

just curious why you would password encrypt your files on your home pc?
Might look at online storage. I use sugarsync and it autosyncs whatever folders you tell it to. Also keeps the last 5 versions of a document.

I never considered the Radeon he 6670 high end and also I was freaking out. After waiting 2 hours my computer magically started to work again. When I get the new fan I will use arctic silver instead of manufacturers. Also I only had my.phone to use for forums so this was one of my few options and I didn't have the time to read about other forums to make sure I wasn't trolled into.breaking my.computer. and I can't explain why my files are encrypted. Ubuntu can't access them. And the reason it gets so hot is because of Amd's stock cooling.

Grand Theft Auto 3 100% save request

I am trying to find a save with 100% complete since cheats aren't supported yet...
Tried swapping it with PC saves but not working so far...
Why not just play through it and enjoy it? Getting a 100% just to do what, drive around and run from cops? Boring...
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
I did on the Ps2, too impatient to do it again with a touch screen lol
Why do you want 100% though? And it hasn't been out that long, if anyone has done 100% I'd be bloody amazed haha

Unless I'm doing something wrong with PC saves..?

I see where your going with this, however on a phone I doubt you could. Phones lack the resources to have two of the same thread running at the same time. I guess in theory it's possible, much like a PC, it would depend on the application and whether it allows for multiple instances of itself to be run, and on the phone, putting both applications into memory and not overwriting each other.
So to answer, I guess it's possible, lol.

At work need help I drive so no hell needed tried to search mobile feature sucks.

So I noticed that my phone is not charging while plugged into the USB in my car. Tried using mobile search which is useless. Also noticed if I wiggle the port it sometimes grabs the charge. Just need to know if I have to put back to stock and turn in for warranty. Kinda live off my phone, I drive for a living so I need it working right.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Does your charger work in a wall socket? If it has the same problems, it's the charger. Try buying a new one to see if it works like that. But I can't think of anything on the spot while you're driving.
Also, you shouldn't be using you're phone while driving. D:

Wiggle the port on the car side? Bad car charger/cable.
Wiggle the port on the phone side, bad USB port/cable.
How clean is the socket in your car? Often times they are located in ash trays or near cup holders and get filled with spooge, try cleaning the female part of the car charger and see if you get a more consistent charge? Since your not complaining about not being able to charge at home, your USB socket I assume is fine, I'd bet it's either the cable or the cars receptacle (either dirty or faulty)
Wink

Even the full site's search function isn't exactly user friendly. It's very powerful, but you have to already know how to use it.

Vibrator motor replacement?

Well, I've noticed with my photon the vibrator stops a lot and i have to bang the phone to make it work again, and this very annoying when my phone is on vibrate (missed texts and such) or when typing, I don't get my feedback that I really need, so i took the phone apart in hopes of simple replacement (like in my evo 3d) but it looks like it's soldered to the board, can anyone confirm this? I would rather not have to replace my entire phone just for a vibration issue :/
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
Yes, it is soldered to the circuit board. I've done similar repairs on other phones, so use a 20 watt iron and go slow. It's not very hard to replace.

Btw, when you try it, use desoldering braid to remove it. Less chance of messing up.

Could you survive only using your Note 2?

Seing just how awesome and powerful our devices are, could you go using this and only this for a whole month. No computers, tablets nothing. Just this? As a student writing a paper about the use of cell phones in todays world I myself am going to try only using my phone.

Yeah I hardly ever use a computer. Only time I do is like rooting and unlocking this which I believe was the last time I used it. This thing is faster then alot of computers in terms of navigating on the net and some other things. Best thing, its fits n my pocket and is with me all day everyday.

If they could get the full blown versions of the Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection and the Nik Software plugins to work strictly on the Note 2 I would say yes I could even though I won't be getting my Note 2 till this Wednesday(thank you IRS). Other than that I still need my Macbook Pro for work and school.
I'll be brief and to the point, no.
While most of what I do is not compute intensive, I do require lots of screen real estate. Too many things running simultaneously to do what I do.
Some tasks like ripping blu-ray discs to a NAS device simply cannot be done on the phone.

I am currently using the Galaxy Note 2 as the only computer and cord cutting entertainment device. Not by choice, but by necessity.
There is a learning curve in trying to do on this device that I used to do on a computer. Specially with word processing like floating text boxes. But I am doing it all on this Galaxy Note 2.
On the entertainment side of things I only missing a few shows that you can only get on iTunes that I can't get on Android. And I need to get the AllShare Cast Wireless Hub or better yet Galaxy Note II Smart Dock. So I can watch video on a larger screen. But beyond that I get all other videos, music, and gaming I like on this device.
As long as you have enough bandwidth and the right accessories you can use your Galaxy Note 2 as your computer and entertainment center. After all this device is really a computer in your hands.
---------- Post added at 06:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:36 PM ----------
Will this device replace a computer for everyone? No.
It depends on your lifestyle at the moment. If you are more mobile lifestyle then yes. But if you are someone who rips your CDs or do other things that demand a device that has different compatibilities than PPC devices, then the answer is no.
In order for Android to get to that point there needs to be evolution in technology. Like what happens when you get into your new car with your Android. Your home network needs to recognize your Android. Then allow your Android to wireless connect to a keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, external hard drive, external DVD drive, printer etc for computer work. Allow you to wireless connect to your TV/monitor, home theater center, etc for entertainment purposes. And lastly wireless connect your Android to your home and appliances so your home and appliances can do what you want to them to do.
AllShare Cast Wireless Hub is a good start. But still missing so much in so many areas.
Once we get there, then these devices can become the only device you ever need.

For me the N2 has come closer than other device I have owned to be a suitable replacement for my laptop. I even gave my Motorola Xoom to my daughter as I find I have more functionality and enjoy using the N2 more than either device. So to answer the question of survival........I'm not there just yet. Using Word and Excel software on any Android device is still a challenge for me and as I use these program on a daily basis I would unfortunately not survive very long.

Outside of work, this has basically replaced my computer. I rarely if ever turn on my computer at home. My IPod has been put away, something I couldn't do with my Droid X as music/radio would kill my battery.
However for work purposes, I have to use both Macs and PCs and I don't see that ever changing due to the machines/software I need for my job.
