[Q] Not able to connect my SG2 with computer - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I had been successfully connecting my SG2 (SGH-i777) with computer until few days back..now all of a sudden my phone is not getting connected in mtp mode to the computer..every time I try to connect, windows 7 fails to connect to the phone..even Kies is not able to connect to it..don't know whats the problem..my config is as below:
Kies : 2.3.1.12044_18
Phone model number : GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I777UCKH7
Phone kernel version: 3.0.15 [email protected] -GT5464 #76
Build number : Phone-Bricker
Phone Carrier: ATT
Windows 7
Can somebody please help me out here..
Thanks in advance

I would ask this question in the thread for the rom that you're running . However, a simple fix might be on uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them.

I dont have permissions to post questions on that thread..so asked here.. :-|
I tried uninstalling the drivers by going in the device manager and uninstalling from there..but it is still not working properly

U installed kies on the computer not just the phone right

@OP:
Did you get it to work? I am having the same issue.. I'm running Shostock2..

I never had any issues but then again its much easier on windows 7 than older windows versions. Here's what I do.
A) connect computer to phone without USB debugging enabled. Let it do whatever it wants to do.
B) disconnect and enable USB debugging. Reconnect. Let it do its thing.
C) disconnect. Reboot into recovery. Connect. Let it do its thing. Disconnect.
D) boot onto android operating system, connect (with USB debugging enabled) and it should give an option on status bar to chose what ya wanna do. That of course is like first time set up type thing. Just what works for me.

Thanks a lot for the reply mate..
In step C..I rebooted in recovery mode and connected to computer..then computer said..Samsung Android ADB Interface is ready to use.
In D..Computer says MTP USB device : Installing driver software..but after some time it is still failing

I'm sorry yer having such a hard time man obviously you've rebooted the comp right? Also depending on what ROM yer on it may have u go into Settings to change something to allow u to access USB mass storage.

I can't tell if you're serious. In OP's other thread, you discouraged handholding. *is genuinely confused
To OP: I would try once more for a clean install of USB drivers. So from Control Panel -> uninstall a program (that's for Win7, something similar for other versions) -> uninstall SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones. Also uninstall any versions of Kies/Kies Mini, etc.
Reboot computer.
Download Samsung USB Drivers for Mobile Phones, v.1.4.8.0 or later, though 1.4.8.0 seems to work for most people. If you can't find it, PM me with an e-mail and I'll e-mail it to you (too big to add to this post, if someone has a place they can host it let me know). Install it, let it do its thing.
Reboot computer again.
Plug in phone and leave it be. Let it do its thing. It may take awhile, but be patient, it *should* eventually install all necessary drivers and get everything working again.
If that doesn't work, I don't know what will.

Two different questions. This problem is one that I believe is unique to his phone / PC. The other thread isn't.

Did this happen after a new rom flash? If so I'd reflash and do a factory wipe/reset

[Q] Cant access through USB cable

Recently I updated my firmware to version 2.1 -update1. Prior to the update I could access my phone's memory and SD card via my USB Cord. Ever since I did the suggested update, when I insert the USB cable the phone makes the sound that my PC used to make when it connects to something through USB but my PC does not see my phone and the option to "Mount through USB" no longer comes up on my phone. Has anyone else ran into this problem or know if there is a setting I need to change so I can browse my phone's memory via USB?
Other information that may be needed"
T-Mobile
Samsung Vibrant
Model number: SGH-T959
Firmware: 2.1 upgrade1
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
Baseband Version: T959UVKA2
Build number: ECLAIR.UVKA2
If there is some information I haven't posted but is needed to help me diagnose/repair my phone please let me know.
I'll ask the obvious, but you did mount the drives using the pull down shade right? Here's another possibility: do you have a lot of drive letters on your PC? Maybe it is trying to assign an already used drive letter to it, if you are using Windows that is.
Did you reboot after the flash?? Try leaving the phone on and pull the battery.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
I do in fact have a lot of drive letters, I have an SD Card reader so it takes several drive letters by itself, I cant try to disable it so I can see if thats the problem.
The drop down shade however, does not have the option to mount it via USB any longer, that's the reason I was thinking the PC no longer sees the phone any longer. As mentioned above, my phone makes the "Da-Doink" sound that my PC should make when you attach anything USB and it used to make that sound before I did this update. I cant even find anything on how to do a hard reset to the phone so I could go back to factory default status of the phone. If anyone knows how to do the factory reset I'm open to that option.
Thanks in advance
I pulled the battery with the power still on, waited 5 seconds before replacing the battery, powered it back up and still having the same problem
Factory data reset is in the settings. Settings>privacy. Try that and if it doesn't work then I would either odin to stock or flash one of the many great 2.2 roms on here.
I would search the forum on how to do that. Look in the Android development section.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Also, you could try reinstall the usb drivers.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Settings>privacy>Factory data reset didn't fix the problem either. I am currently going to look for the drivers so I can try to re-install those, although I don't remember having to install them to begin with. I think my PC installed it on its own once I chose "Mount USB" from the dope down shade. At this time its not recognizing the PC to give me that option in the drop down shade to begin with. If new drivers doesn't solve the problem, do you guys know the link(s) for the 2.2 roms and do they have a "how to" to go by so I don't brick my new phone?
Thanks in advance
Also, You guys have been so very helpful. I know with a certainty, I would have already bricked this thing without all of your helpful suggestions and for not hazing the newbie like I have seen happen on so many other forums. Thank you very much!
Look through the forum for the drivers. Go to the bible in the android development section. I believe that is where I found the drivers.

***Revised without all the Type-O's and drunken banter***
I found new drivers on Samsung's Web Site, their Program KIES-mini. After installing both drivers and software (Samsung's Kies mini) the program prompts me to connect my mobile phone and my PC never "sees" that my SGH-T959 is connected. The only thing it says on Kies splash screen is "Please connect your mobile phone" and that is with the phone connected. Is the next step flashing the ROM? Or are there more options in the settings tab or some other menu that I need to try first? I would appreciate help with finding a true "Newbie" tutorial that will take me step by step through the flashing process so I have the smallest chance of bricking this brand new phone.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the prior drunken post lol
i have been having issues with internal/external not mounting to pc for the last few weeks i dunno why but i just started having these issues. i thought at first it was custom kernels not working well with some custom roms but i just found out my sister is having issues mounting to pc as well and her vibrant has no custom roms or kernels on it at all. The only thing i did to her phone was root it to add mobile pc so im thinking it is something more phone related maybe. i dunno
If you turn on usb debugging does the phone show its plugged in to the computer then?
Settings, applications, usb debugging.
Also, not sure if this is on stock or not but there are usb settings there too that tell the phone how to act when plugged into a computer.

Just an update on my issues, as of right now when I connect my SGH-T959 to my PC via USB, the PC recognizes there is something connected and I can choose "Mount USB" in the drop down shade but I still don't see either the phone's internal memory nor the SD card's memory in windows explorer and when I try to access the memory through the phone (Applications>Settings>SD card and phone storage) it says "Unavailable" instead of telling me used and free space on the phone and SD Card. The only thing I did differently was hook the phone up to a different PC I have in the house and everything worked on the other PC just like normal. so I brought it back and I hooked it up to the PC I am having problems with to pin point exactly if the problem is on the PC side or the phone side. So, as it turns out the problem is on the PC side. I am going to try installing different drivers and see if that fixes the problem. Also, I don't know if its relevant but when I run Kies Mini on the PC I am having problems with, the phone says "Connected" on the screen, but on my PC the splash screen for Kies still says "Please connect your mobile phone". Perhaps this information might help someone that knows more about the phone and its software know what the problem is.
Thanks
Yeah. Its sounds like your pc. However, if you can't see the sd on the phone it would make me think its also the phone. does this only happen when you try to plug it into your pc?? I would maybe try different drivers like you said. Not the kies mini drivers. If you go into the bible there is a link for drivers. 32 bit and 64 bit.

Make sure in windows update settings, search and auto download drivers is on. If that doesn't work, download and install google adb driver. You can google 'adb drivers' and find sources to download them. This should work. Please let me know if this help. if it doesn't, I can walk u thru downloading and installing samsung drivers manually.
I willl try the adb driver. Ill get back asap. But I did dl the specific Vibrant driver from Samsung support page. No luck there

Still nothing. Could it be a damaged usb?

What exactly are you trying to do?
- If ur just trying to root & flash you really don't need to connect to PC.
As far as the connect to PC issue. It could be a damaged USB port but unlikely. How is the setup of ur "USB settings"
- Mass storage(should be picked)
- Also toggle the USB debugging setting as well that might help. Good luck!

PC isn't detecting my device.

Hello
So this is it. i've tried searching in this forum and google for any possible solution to this issue that is kind of driving me crazy, but i haven't been able to make it work. None of my PC's can detect my device through USB Connection, i have:
1- i have installed all the drivers and Samsung Kies updated to the last version
2- i have enabled usb debugging mode connection and still nothing
3- i have the stock gingerbread 2.3.6
If someone can help me... please i'd really appreciate it :S

Even if you have the correct drivers installed, some bad drivers might be picking the device up, overriding the good drivers. If you open up device manager, what shows up when you plug in the phone?

Snappea is an app for both windows and your android via which you can connect to your pc
1. First download and install Snappea (Google it "SnapPea" since i cannot post outside links)
2. When installed, it will ask some basic info and after connecting your phone, it will automatically download its android version
3. I guess thats all.... Youll understand its use via the tutorial (pretty much easy)

the device makes a sound means it connected to USB only. it can be computer or charger.

Oh then Idk i've never looked into it.
I'm having the same problem with my i777 model.
I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers, I updated the drivers, I tried debugging mode and I've tried "Mass Storage" mode.
Mass Storage mode was the only one that seemed to work for me, when I tried debug mode it would constantly connect and disconnect.
When I try without being in any of those modes, my phone will connect. My computer will recognize and then randomly my phone or computer wont be able to see each other anymore. Like my phone will disconnect from MTP-initialization (but still charge like it's plugged in)...I'm really interested in rooting my phone, but I don't want to since I can't connect my phone correctly. I don't want a $200+ phone becoming a brick and I can't replace it very cheap (anytime soon at least).
Here's phone info if it helps any..?
Model Number: SAMSUNG-SGH-i777
Android Version: 2.3.6
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.UCKK6

Hmmm...I just tried something. My phone says it's not in MTP, but my PC can read it and open it up.
All I did was turn off my phone, then I plugged it in, then turned it back on and it's doing good so far...might give it a shot, I dunno how well it's really working or nothing though.

Now it's in MTP Application and synchronizing, I'm just trying to back up my phone with Keis so if I do decide to Root, I can back everything back up.

Well, I have this experience while flashing my friend's phone and here what I've done:
-reboot my computer
-connect the phone, kill all kies related process (I'm using Windows) and start odin. If odin recognise your phone at this point, you are good to go else you might want to reinstall usb drivers.
-use full wipe odin files I found from internet (I got from the pirate bay with search key ics full wipe)

If Odin adds and removes quickly, this looks like your USB cable is dead, try flashing with another - Genuine- one
I had a similar issue while flashing my former SGS1: flashing process interrupted suddenly at 50%
A similar kind of thing happened to my phone as well when I was upgrading to 4.0.4 from gingerbread via Kies. The installation got stuck when the phone was in the download mode and I had no other option than to disconnect. But yours got stuck while using Odin. I would suggest you to flash the firmware again. I hope your phone goes into download mode now. As for the drivers, uninstall everything related to samsung from your PC and then reinstall it. DO NOT UPGRADE SAMSUNG KIES IF IT ASKS YOU TO DO SO! AS I TOLD YOU A SIMILAR THING HAPPENED TO MY PHONE. MY PC COULD'NT RECOGNIZE IT AND I REINSTALLED EVEYTHING AND IT FINALLY SHOWED SOME SIGN. MAKE SURE YOUR ANTIVIRUS IS FULLY DEACTIVATED WHILE YOU EXECUTE THE FLASHING OPERATION!

first of all, while your phone is disconnected from USB cable, can you enter download mode?if no, then try to find someone that have JIG. else, as leech4 said, this might caused by your USB cable. OR might caused by your USB port of your PC. as i said earlier, try to repair your USB driver (not sammy USB driver, but your PC's usb driver). flash using ODIN, and kill kies services from task manager as kies will conflict with ODIN later. here i give you LSJ link(thanks to ApriliaM3) in case you don't have. extract the zip and use all the PDA, PHONE and CSC file. you can even use PIT to re-partition your system. (tested and proven to be working). good luck mate.:good:

Wow, I suspect this kind of brick or what so ever others called it. I've read some where, and they talking about JIG. If what they mean is the same like what I understood from my electronic knowledge, then you have to find someone that have JIG to do further troubleshooting directly from your board, not via usb. Well, I'm just saying. You might want to seek for other solution first since it's your device.

Need Help Getting Back to Stock

I rooted my phone a while back with a one click root process that rooted it to a rooted version of the stock rom. Recently I recieved notification that Jelly Bean is now available for my phone and that I need to connect to my computer via usb to update. But, my computer keeps getting a "device not recognized" error. I tried to install Kies for the drivers with no luck, uninstalled the drivers from Kies and installed the others straight from the Samsung website with no luck. I have tried 2 different computers and three different usb cables, including 2 oem usb cables. I have windows 7 which may be the problem. Are there any work arounds like going to stock from my sd card? My phone is no longer rooted, but for some reason still has Superuser which i can uninstall still. I brought my phone to Sprint which the guy was really cool and informed me that its not the usb port on the phone and that odin is recognizing it, but odin on my computers doesn't even see it.

Did you have the Android drivers installed previously? I'm assuming that you're trying to install the drivers for the first time on that your computer and that you have USB Debugging enabled. I'll also be assuming you disabled driver verification, which can be a problem in some computers.
First you need to boot your phone normally, and plug it into the computer. Press Win+R to open the "Run" dialog and run "devmgmt.msc," which is the Device Manager. Look up the "Unknown Device" that is your phone and double click it. Click on the Event tab and check the Hardware ID in the drop-down box. It should look something like this (sorry mine is Android Composite ADB Interface because I've installed it already, but that's what it should look like in the end):
Now you have to make a new section in the driver inf. It should be in the google adt bundle and in the extras\google directory. The file name is android_winusb.inf. In the picture below my tablet is the iDeaUSA CT702. You need to add one of these sections in both the x86 and x64 section if you have a 64 bit computer. If not, just put it in the x86 section. The %USB stuff needs to match that in the Device Manager Hardware ID.
Now you should have a device called Android Composite ADB Interface or anything like that is fine.
It says there are no drivers and that there is no hardware id. All there is are device instance id. Im not quite sure where the driver.inf is located. This has been a pain for the past week. Hopefully we can figure this out. Lol.

I think there may have been something wrong with the rom. If i could just reinstall stock i think it would work. Just need to get the USB to read to the computer.

If you don't know where the driver is, then download a new one. I've uploaded the official Google USB driver to mediafire here: Mediafire - usb_driver.zip
You need to modify this driver, then when asked to select the inf file for driver installation choose the android_winusb.inf inside. After installation your phone should be recognized. Please tell me if there's any uncertainties you have.
Have you tried connecting the device with usb dev mode disabled? I know its strange but I've a few devices that use different drivers if the usb dev mode is enabled. I've also devices where I need to enable usb mass storage setting every time (settings menu or slide down notification). Also it never hurts to try a new cable, usb wires do tend to wear out and are very cheaply manufactured so they break inside with the slightest tug of the wire. I know most of this stuff is uber basic but I've made things much worse on countless occasions by overlooking simple stuff like this.

Good point. If you don't have developer mode usb debugging enabled, then there will be no "unknown device" as shown above in the device manager. Be more detailed about "no luck" please.
