A place to discuss UCLD3 and UCLE2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I keep seeing comments in three or four different development threads. I decided to place my comments about the leak here.
For me, scrolling is smoother, toast notes are not blurry, force close? What's that? Broken stuff just isn't broken anymore. At least not the functions I use.
lockscreen wallpaper isn't setting for me... EDIT fixed by reading...(set from within quickpic)
All in all, the initial leak is stable enough to DD.
The various repacks are smoothing out after a little tweaking, and with some patience and perseverance, our devs are ironing out most of the wrinkles created when tracking and altering the leak. I'm very impressed with the progress!
My thoughts are this might be more than a pre release, and more like a final pre test using us willing Guinea pigs...(conspiracy theory)
So, I'm gonna continue to DD the version I'm on (collectives) because this is what I was waiting for (att ics), and although out may not be official, its dang close to it. To think about atoll those google searches, countless hours refreshing, waiting for the release of ice cream sandwich... All I have to say is, ITS HERE!
This thread is a good place to compile your thoughts and or feelings on the final leak, and I'm interested to get all of your thought in one place, and inadvertently declutter some of the development threads.

This is the first leak I installed, I was running stock GB and I'm not rooted.
I do have a couple of issues:
- My signal strength seems to be bouncing alot, 5 to 1 bars or 2 to 4, its never solid like it was before. My wifi is Gold, no problems.
- When I go into settings the words look blurry to me
I installed this leak twice with the same results, rebooted about 15 times and still the same results.
I will include a couple screen shots.

Looks awesome, have you tried a different modem? Flappjaxxx posted flammable radios in the collective ucld3 thread...
EDIT: not flammable, flashable... lol
BTW: can someone explain how they got transparent weather to work... I must have done something wrong when i tried a while back...
Sent from my Note using ICS by AT&T

ive installed the latest ICS from team perfection.
it runs better then the last leak, plus Appdroid's extras/addon/debloating helps it out a lot.. good enough for a daily driver, albeit.. a buggy daily driver.
I get crashes on Words with Friends, MyFitnessPal, Temple Run is laggier then on Gingerbread (which i hope is smoothed out by the official ICS release), obvious lag on Phone and Contacts launch, camera (launching, taking photo), and some other issues
Google Navigation is faster and more accurate then in Gingerbread, same thing with maps.
IMO -- nothing has beaten the smoothness of the Unofficial Gingerbread Rom. That thing was smooth like butter, makes me want to go back to it sometimes.

Only complaint is the status bar brightness control, by sliding your finger, doesn't work.
Which is kinda funny since that's been a built in touch wiz feature since...forever ;/

heh, where did you get that URL from? He's just making **** up as he goes, and as you point out, can't even bother to proofread.
Users who cannot wait to get their hands on the final official Android Ice Cream Sandwich ROM whenever AT&T finishes their testing can get the leaked build right now if they are enterprising and daring. Brief Mobile has posted the download links and the instructions on getting the software loaded on your Galaxy Note right now.
Keep in mind that this isn’t a finalized ROM

Are you running the straight stock at&t version leak by itself or did you run the collective add ons?

My only complaint is the ineffectiveness of left handed mode for the S Pen. Seems to have been broken in the ICS leaks. Hope it is resolved before official drops.

I have few questions/clarifications..
Can we do this on stock GB (no root/never flashed)? I have never flashed.. it is as is when I bought..
Instructions:
1. Download to sdcard
2. Reboot to recovery - hold volume + Power + Home
3. Data wipe/factory reset ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED coming from a different ROM!
(Definitely recommended even if coming from an earlier version of The Unofficial)
4. Flash Rom (How?)
5. Reboot and Enjoy
6. *Bug reports not necessary in this thread* This ROM ships As-Is
7. No this will not do anything to your bootloader.

No you need to flash cwm recovery with Odin first THEN follow those instructions...
If you want to backup your apps with titanium backup you will need to root first, if you don't then rooting first is not needed.

Likes/Dislikes of GBP7

What I would like to know is what are the likes and dislikes of GBP7? Android was founded on a community effort and with that basis is how I want the success of my ROM to be; a community effort. With the ever popular MIUI and CM roms, I found that these roms were developed by top notch developers, and even more so, the community behind them.
I need to know what you the user would like to see in GingerBread Phone 7! I can pump out the same updates over and over and fix compatibilities all day, but this will never grow to the success I want in my ROM.
Over the next few days I will be finalizing a couple tweaks in this ROM, and be moving on to the future development section. While in this transit, give me your thoughts and opinions to better serve you the community.

Looks good, But the idea for now is to keep the current and build onto it. Although after the 2.3.5 release(I'm getting close), I'll look more into this concept and see how it works with the 2.3.5 release and build with it if the launcher is suitable to how I need the ROM to go.
Thanks for the suggestion tho. I've been referred to other launchers as well
EDIT:
I'm at work right now and I'm bored, so I'll go ahead and download the launcher and see how well it functions. Ill get back with you guys on this. I was looking more into the OP and it looks very nice, but I need to see the functionality of it. If it looks good, I may push back the 2.3.5 update a little further; to set up this for initial install of the launcher, but no guarantees.
I've considered playing with it but was so turned off trying launcher7 that I decided against it.
There were no videos or screenshots I could find so I skipped it.
If it's as snappy and elegant as the real wp7 though I'd give it a go and maybe even give it a write up on the general section of the blog I am building that's more fitness based but will have a tech section too.

This was announced months ago on the cyanogenmod blog.
Order of operations (in true geek form, the pun was intended):
1) Exynos based systems would come first.
2) Next would be MSM86xx based systems...hence the skyrocket and our Note.
Old news is no news.
Thanks for the update, it's much appreciated to see that we're nearing a release. I'll be refreshing get.cm twice as hard now.

Awful how? I have tried two ICS roms and they bludgeoned GingerBread to death.
Performance is absolutely awful. I have been ready to return this thing a few times but I am trying to hold out until the kernel source is released to see if we can get any bump in performance. Scrolling is awful, period, on every rom I have tried. I am really hoping this isnt a snapdragon S3 issue, as were ****ed if so. Then the constant redraws, lag, app hangs, etc just make me want to switch back to WP7.
Have you tried the Unofficial rom? It is fast and clean and super stable.
It sounds to me like you have a bad Note. I had one and exchanged it. It took forever for screen transitions and the SPen was super laggy which made me originally wonder what Samsung was thinking. Until I went in for a different issue (the backlight bleed on the white notes) to swap it out with a black one.
Even the Hybrid is very fluid with all of its customizations.
yeah I ran TPC, unofficial ICS, and now dagr8s hybrid at 213 dpi. Tablet mode is awesome, but useless with all the lag. I have 3 home screens and maybe 7 widgets, and its painful to use at times. My Sensation 4g SMOKES this thing.

This is just one bad experiance.......the ics roms out right now are GOOD and smooth and fast. scrolling on my note is very smooth. you may have a bad note, or are just setting it up wrong. everyone has little tweaks they do that they think help the smoothness. so in the end what im trying to say it IS NOT THE ROMS......

The project I've been working on - New Rom

The last few weeks I've talked to many of you about a little project I was lucky to be involved in with a good friend of mine, Tonekneeo, and I promised you guys I would keep you updated.
Rather than trying to reply to each PM and remember which gtalk people asked me about it, I decided to kill a whole bunch of birds with one stone.
This rom is sense 3.6 based but it's designed from the ground up to be run as sense, senseless, and with the MIUI style launcher, depending on the kind of mood you're in. It's a really clean little lean and mean rom that has amazing performance and get's me the best battery life I've seen on my rezound even though I've been tethering. The eye candy and theming is gorgeous in my opinion, a sophisticated yet fun theme that I find very classy in the base version and he's rolling out custom theming constantly so there's still several colors yet to come.
http://www.teambamf.net/topic/4008-rom-tonked-rezound-rom/
Tone has a lot of projects in the works and I'll be helping out with the development as he teaches me the tricks of the trade, so feedback is always appreciated.
Giving it a shot now

Heya Charlie! Nice work, keep it up. Downloading now and probably run this as my daily. Will see what I can do about getting you a themed SGS3 Launcher(think its called SecLauncher2.apk) to add in also (if you want?).

Data arrows are working. It's based off of the 5/7 leak I believe unless something has just changed. Tone will be doing another rom based on the newest leak and I'm sure once it's ready for main stream we will create more rom threads and such.
I'm good with it being moved but I really don't think this is for the development section. I'm not the developer and I'm not creating a rom thread or supporting the rom. I don't think the development section should be crapped up with general information like this.

Not trying to be ungrateful but..

The thunderbolt development has been on hold for months now... I run Liquid 3.2 with the imo kernel and it really is amazing. Like anyone else though I want more. Is it just me or is Team BAMF being selfish? How could they release a ROM without the RUU? I am grateful towards them but the truth is after being a sense fanboy for ever and finally giving AOSP a chance I will never look back. I tried the leak and it just brought back old angry memories. The lag to me is unbearable for a 1ghz 768 mb phone with ICS. I am sure the desensed version is better but here is my real question. Can AOSP developers start working on AOSP roms without the RUU? And do you guys think we will have any good AOSP roms untill the kernel source is released?
The only reason why I think I can be totally wrong right now is...if BAMF was being selfish why wouldn't they release the new radio? Unless they didn't update the radio I can't see a reason as to why they would hold back.
I just really can't wait for an official legit Liquid ICS AOSP rom with a new imo kernel build from source no de-compiling.

Not necessarily a noob but far from an expert... I posted this is q&a because I am looking for answers not to be judged..
They held back because it was a test build from April. I bet there isn't a new radio or hboot with the test as it was a test. I also would put money down that the reason the build is so laggy is because it is a test. If you're worried about the lag and want a functioning ics rom then I don't understand why you haven't flashed liquid ics. Everything works and I have used it as a dd since they got data working with it.

Where the heck did the Liquid ICS rom with working data go?
The build date in there is listed as April. I haven't tried liquid 3.2 as it was based on an old version of cm7 so I can't compare to that but it is smoother than any rom I've used on the tbolt to date.

i havent checked in the RUU if there is new radio(s) in it, but often times RUU's are not released at the request of the leaker
they're more identifiable than a rom made off of them, and the debug/tracking apks are removed from roms made from them
for the inc2 i was asked to remove the debug apps from the rom before releasing, and that would not be possible in the RUU
no one is entitled to anything either way....someone gave files to a certain individual/group in the hopes they would do whats best for the masses with it...if the leaker felt that everyone would benefit from releasing the RUU, it would have happened
there is nothing file wise that is a RUU and not a rom made from it that would benefit aosp anyway....all the bins/libs and associated files are the same
theres no *magic* in there....kernel source code is the most important thing in that area

Worse come to worse, do a Nandroid and flash a few ICS builds to try them out. If you don't like it restore back. I see some posts of people using Liquids ICS as a DD. Might be worth trying. I personally am waiting this weekend to see if anything else gets released just to get some kinks out due to the fact I use my phone for work and need the functionality of my phone. Liquids ICS is not based off of that leak from Teambamf and hopefully now that the leak has come out they may find it useful to perfect their Rom a bit more.
Again thanks to all the Devs for all the hard work they do!
Currently using Thundershed 1.6. Zoom Kern.
I use liquid ics as my dd and I have no issues yet.

I am loving this rom. Even with its little quirks. I just can't wait for the new build. I have been scrolling these forums every 5 minutes. lol

I've heard good things about Carbon. I'll have to give it a look when I get home tonight.

OK so far the only thing I've found to not really work with our device is density changer. Everything else is top notch.
Okay, I'm having trouble attaining LTE on my device. I change the settings to the corresponding network from global to LTE/CDMA/EVdO. So i'm not sure if i did something wrong.
EDIT: It literally took a good 5-10 mins to get a signal for LTE. Very unusual but it was a fresh start/install. I'll see if I can mess around with it more. Also, messing around with "Halo", its pretty cool, bit buggy. ( A notification popped up, slide to open, and it force crashed). Overall, cool ROM. This might be my new ROM .
To be honest I never liked halo so I always disable it but I will say...quite impressive with the port snuzzo....its the difference the rezound needs for balance...and this is a great difference. I'd say this is in my top 3 ROMs of all time to use if you like to modify...and I'll say all 3 of those ROMs have been ported by 3 different developers for the rezound...you are one of those special enough to earn this title in my eyes

Thank you for bring this over. I have been on it for two days now with no problems. I really like the active notification.

I especially love the transitions! Only issue I see is the data at boot and data notifier is always at 0.00B/s
Other than that, no issues yet.

This isn't a port guys. Built straight from its source. No modifications were done by me. Great to see you enjoying it!
Downloading now. Can't wait to test it ^^

Oh wow.... BTW just curious. I'm a gsm user and it doesn't show I have signal in status bar but does show in quick settings pulldown....is this a bug?
Edit: nvm didnt read op thoroughly enough haha

In reality it is a small quirk. Will come acrossed these things. Unfortunately I doubt I would be able to fix that .... =/
Oh man Snuzzo... You are so sneaky.
I'm not sure it's possible, but as I saw Carbon ROM on my Galaxy Tab 2 as well as Slim Bean... any chance Slim Bean may work for this, too?
\I will definitely be trying this.
Couldn't get SlimBean to build out after MULTIPLE attempts.

Too bad. I see it is on some other HTC devices is the only reason I thought it may work.
Backing up and flashing Carbon now.
Who would be interested in an ION build without working camera?
@Quantumrabbit
I can try it again but I would have to pull down their source again. Right now I am pulling AOSP right from Google.

I'm still not sure I get what ION is for/does. I know it's a different memory management, but I thought everything going ION was supposed to make ROMs more compatible across phones, which doesn't really seem to be the case... I'm also unsure how memory management affects all the other parts of the phone so significantly.
\Don't go wasting your time on my account. I was just curious, if you've tried before and it doesn't work, it may not be worth it. I'll give Carbon a go, may like it better anywho.
Thanks for bringing another awesome ROM to the vigor, snuzzo! I'll be giving this one a try, since I was running CarbonRom on my grouper for a while and liked it pretty well. I assume this one works great with Funky?
