So i'm at a loss here...
I copied alot of music to my prime (internal storage, into sdcard/music/) when i first got it. Worked perfectly. I was using the stock Music player for a while then it got on my nerves and i installed PlayerPro which i also use on my mobile phone. Works great.
Now a few months later i got some new music and i copied it to my prime. The only thing:
The music is not showing up in any player. Not the google player not playerpro. I can play the files from my file manager but in the actual music app it wont show up.
I rebooted, reinstalled music apps, used a sd card rescan app, cleared cache on all involved apps, deleted the music and copied again, used iSyncr and manual copy... And it cant be the music itself because on my phone the same files work fine.
Dont know what more i could do now any ideas?
[e] Gets even stranger, if i copy it with MyPhoneExplorer over wifi, it works the music gets recognized by all players. Strange, but at least a workaround.
Btw is there a way to enable Harddrive mode? This medialayer mode kinda sucks^^

Today for what ever reason all my music apps cannot see my music stored on my SD card. If I use the file browser app, I can see and play the music there. I have reset the phone and still the music cannot be seen by the stock app nor by DoubleTwist. Help!!
How you tried using the Samsung Kies application? I don't have the device yet to test it, but I will test it when I do.
I'm good...Double Twist screwed up the music database on the SD card. Reformatted the SD card and all is well now. I was syncing with the DoubleTwist desktop software when it crashed. Samsung Kies does not work. Keeps crashing every time I try and scroll or search for music in my library. I'm using Google Music with the Google Music Importer app to sync my music from my Google music account to my phone. Works great!!
Go to Settings-Wireless and Network-USB Settings-Samsung Kies. Kies should not crash.
I also have this problem, and I have fixed this by USB Setting.
So I'm trying to load my phone up with music since my connection is not great in the virgin islands... Can't stream off google music with confidence... When I connect my phone to the computer I transfer the music.. I run out of space so then I go into root explorer and move the music to the other sd card that has more space.. (From sdcard2 to sdcard)
When I play a song through winamp or music or google music it says cannot playback file not recognized... Is there a specific directory the files have to be in? Also song titles show up 2 or 3 times in the programs... Ugh just want my tunes to play.. I bartend and play the music through my phone...

Since obviously no one can answer me why some apps detect where my mp3s see and some don't...I found my own crappy workaround...
The app Music Folder Player scans your storage when ya start it... But you can't create playlists, which I need for the bar.
Found an app Cloudskipper... Scans storage and I can create playlists... Yay problem solved for now...
I've deduced that if there's a way to scan storage in the main apps (google play, music) my problem would go away...
So... How to Rescan Storage In Google Play, Music?

are you rooted? Normally media refresh is triggered by taking the external card out and putting it back in, or a reboot. Seeing as how you've moved the music from the external card to the phone's own storage, you can do it by using an app like "rescan media". There is a root version that i've used and solved my N7 player not seeing my music issue, as well as a non root version that im not sure if it works or not. Either way what you're looking for is anything that triggers the media rescan.
If all else fails try clearing google play music's cache and data in your settings > manage apps and start from scratch.

I need help and this has been driving me nuts for the past hour of two. I placed 2 new music albums to my internal SD card (/storage/sdcard0/Music) and for some reason my music player cannot detect them. What I did is I checked the entire Music folder for any .nomedia but there is none. I downloaded a SD scan app and still the same.
The last resort i did is i deleted everything from my music folder and transferred everything again from PC to the S3. Now after doing that, the new albums appeared BUT one of the older albums is not showing! I checked the folder via Root Explorer and MyFiles and the album and songs are in my internal SD card. Like I said in my first statement, these albums/songs are located in just one folder.
Same result if I use the stock music app or a third party app like N7.
I am now frustrated and lost
I am currently using LI8.
Try clearing data in "MediaScanner" in the applications manager, and then rebooting. Give it a little while as it can take a few minutes to scan the entire phone.

Try putting the music somewhere else on your SD, before deleting caches and data... If that doesn't work, you can always just delete the cache of your music player, that usually works, but try not to delete the Media Scanner's Cache, that means it will take longer to boot and get to the launcher...
If you want, you could also just download Google Play Music, it's better than Samsung's Music player (Because Music Player leaves a second out of the music..) and Play Music is much smoother than Sammy's..
Try one of those and if it still doesn't work, do the Media Scanner Cache.
Anyways, hope I could help you!
You can also decrease the scanning times by using the SD watcher mod here:

Thanks! I'll try all the options provided and will let everyone know the results.

My Evo's unrooted. Google Play music was doing fine finding the music on my external SD card and playing it, but all of a sudden, last week, it can no longer find those songs. If I use a file explorer, I can still find the music. 3rd party players are able to find it (even the HTC music player), but google music can't. I've cleared data on the app, I've downloaded and used the Rescan Media app..nada.
Anyone else have this problem? or a solution?
Thanks!
Mine has trouble finding music until I restart the phone. Also, google music has its own folder on sdcard(1). Try putting the music in there and rescan media.

Hey guys
My S3, running Jellybam 6.3.0, works fine, but there is a little issue that I'm experiencing
and it's become pretty irksome.
I had 8gb of music on an iPod that I transferred to my PC, then to and SD card, which I now use for my GS3.
All of my past music appears in music players and play fine, but any new music that I download from the phone doesn't show up.
I thought maybe the music players weren't scanning for mp3 files in the download folder, so I decided to move them from the downloads folder
to my Music folder with all my other files.
Here's the problem:
The file manager doesn't seem to "see" for find any of the old music, despite all of the media players finding it no problem.
Also, any new music I download can be searched for an played in a music player, but it is never added to the library.
I decided to mount my phone to my PC do double check, and all of my music is there in the Music folder, which is on the root of my sd card.
Has anyone else had this issue

Did you try to wipe data and install everything again??
Might be a DRM issue?
