Did I read correctly that the battery would not be removable? Upon a system freeze how will we be able to reboot?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
There will be a specific button combination to use in order to reboot the phone. From what I understand you can also access the bootloader as well.
On the Evo 3D holding the Power, Vol Up and Vol Down will reboot the phone.
This is how you will reboot the Evo LTE. You can, after doing a button reboot, release the Vol Up button (so that you have the Power + Vol Down buttons pressed) to get into the bootloader.
The leaked user guide stated that you can hold the power button down for 10 seconds to reboot in the event of a freeze..
I'm not too worried about it. I've only had to pull my battery once or twice on my Shift. Like others said, there is some combination of buttons to "pull" the battery. Works fine on my touch pad and View.
I have an external battery pack device that has a micro usb plug built into it so I can top off if I need to.
Im hoping that there will be a battery for a similar phone that is bigger, and has a similar flex cable so the battery could be interchanged.
For this phone its hold power down for 10 seconds.

Good to know.
They got the battery in there. Someone will figure out how to change it. It won't be easy but where there is a will there is a way.
I'm sure you can change out the battery but you will probably have to completely dismantle the phone to get to it. Think about it, if you send you phone back for battery issues, they will not just give you a new phone. They will have to dismantle it to get to the battery, kinda like the iPhones. Just wait for a teardown and you'll see how easy it is. Now what they might do is put a security sticker that would void the warranty if you try to dismantle it to discourage people from messing with it.

As long as the battery is not soldered to the mainboard; the average user will be able to replace the battery. I've replaced numerous iPhone batteries, and it's incredibly easy.
Since the battery is not removable, I have been looking at some of those portable battery chargers (New Trent, Astro3, etc.). It seems that all of these require their own cable to charge. I am wanting one that can be charged using a microUSB, so that I can use the same cable that I will use to charge my phone. Does anyone know if a charger with microUSB charging exists?
Edit: I found exactly what I was looking for on Amazon. It is called the Anker Astro 2. Charges with the same microUSB cable that charges the phone.

Tear down will NOT be EASY. It's a unibody shell. If you want at the battery, you'll have to pull it thru the front (screen and motherboard). Have fun.

Did you check goodandevo? You should be able to download documents on how to restart your phone. I believe its power and up button together, kinda like the EVO view 4g.

If your trying to do it on a desk, without holding it in your hand, it can wonk out and not respond correctly (quite frustrating when developing). Also, I have seen this before on my old iDevide, the power/grounding electrical stuff.can mess with touch sensativity. If it is really annoying you, maybe you have a defective unit and so go get it replaced. I can't vouch for what you are saying when u plug it in it stops working though. I have an otterbox defender on my phone.
Just mah 2 cents.

If you are not using an original charger or USB cable, it may happen. It happened to me with a Moto Milestone.
If actually your charger and cable are original, then your phone might be defective
Someone in Milestone 2 forum suggested use of a longer usb to microusb cable .. something around 1.5 m would do

Not sure whats wrong with it.. I cant seem to charge my touchpad. I tried my phone's charger but it said it provides lower voltage and instructed to connect to the charger that came with touchpad. When I connect the stock charger (one that came with the touchpad)...nothing happens and it doesnt charge.
You think my charger isn't working or is there any problem with the touchpad?
Thanks for your help guys.
Are you running the CM7 build?
im currently running webos.
That happened to my gf's charger/Touchpad. I know that her contacts are flaky when I use the her TP charger for my phone. My guess is to start there.
If you are stock, my money is on the physical contacts, second guess would be the charger itself is bad.
You mean try using my phone's charger for the touchpad?

Touchpads are very picky to the charging source. There is a hack that you can download to fix that. However I recommend taking the stock charger, twisting it so it comes into 2 pieces and twist it back together. HP may have made the charging requirements picky for a reason. Much like early iPhones.

Ill try that once I get home.hope it works.....otherwise ill have to look into the hack. Do I need to root tp to get the hack working?

My gf's tp has problem charging a well. Tried charging via mine and her wall chargers. Both would charge my touchpad but would not charge hers. It would tell me the same as if I was charging using a computer. Charged it overnight and battery was still dead. Tried using multiple cables as well with no luck. Tried charging via the touchstone. For the first 7+ hours, nothing happened, just a battery icon with a flash and red bar. I decided to call HP about the problem. Set up and RMA to get it repaired. 10 minutes after calling HP, the touchpad finally showed some sign of life when it started booting up. I tried switching to the wall charger but it doesn't show any indication that it was charging. As of now, it is being charged on the touchstone but dunno the status of it because I had to go to work. I will find out in the morning. But I will still RMA the tp as it doesn't seem to charge via the usb port.
If the battery was that flat mllk it's probably damaged anyway so an RMA is the way to go.
Does anyone know where i can get this charger hack that is mentioned?
My charger did not work out of the box and it was simply because it is a universal charger made to take new plug attachments that screw into and out of the mane charging body.
It takes a rotation until it clicks into place to be properly set and functional. It seems mine was not rotated all the way in place. I thought I broke the charger when it came apart when I was messing around with it until I found this fact and after I put it back together and twisted it until it snapped into place it has worked fine since.
I plan to get a touchstone charger for it down the line anyways I think just to reduce wear & tear on the usb port and also to make charging it a more simple affair.
Shame it does not seem to charge from PC, its a bit misleading being that its a usb cable.
Today I woke up and found that my phone wasn't charging. When I plug in my charger it feels loose and moves around. Tried buying a new charger and same thing. Its like I have to hold the thing in a certain place for it to chaste and as soon add I let go it stops charging. I did just flash a new rom last night, not sure if that has anything to do with it. Any suggestions? Phone is 2 yrs old and out of warrenty.

when you say that your charging outlet feels loose, do you mean the area that you plug your charging cord into on your phone?
You might need to replace the micro USB port on your phone. I sent my phone to MobileTechVideos and they replaced it for me. It'll cost about $35 for the service though.
Like when I plug my phone in to charge, it kinda wiggles around like it shouldn't. It should just plug in and be tight. Not sure how this happened. Is there anything else that can be done other than sending it in? I don't have another T-Mobile phone to use in the mean time

Could this be due to flashing a new rom? Didnt start until day I flashed D9. Im not sure what to use as a phone in the meantime.

No. I doubt that the installation of a virtual rom would cause the damage of a physical charger jack. However, that day, did you violently yank the charger cable out of the device? Or anything to that sort?

Nope, ive always been really careful with this phone. i think its been getting loose the past 6 months or so. I realllly dont want to get a new phone. I really like my Vibrant
I just want to know that if I send it somewhere that they can actually fix it. I can connect and mount if I need to, but its just odd that I have to hold it a certain way for it to start charging. When i put it down it stops. Tried 3 different chargers, all from tmobile store.
I actually just flashed ICS passion and had the same exact issue. I never thought it could be due to the flash and assumed it was just hardware.
For me, what fixed (or helps) this issue -
Plug the cord in so its sticking in the charging slot as best as possible, than flip the phone on its face while the cord dangles off of a table or whatever you charge it on. (this puts pressure against the cord/phone slot in the reverse direction, and at least for me, would charge the phone)
Hope that made sense and helped!
I got my new s and I am liking it somewhat so far. I have a few issues though. First off is Amazon dint give me a us adapter for my charger so I have had to use my pc or PS3 to charge it. Neither of my htc chargers works as I woke up this morning and the phone was almost dead when it should have been charging. The light comes on but nothing happens though I wasn't able to test it while it had booted. This means I was not able to charge the phone when I first received it. I was able to fully charge it today but only with it on. Will this hurt the battery?
The next problem I have is the phone won't start normally after being off and charging. I always have to hold the volume button and the power to get it to work.
Next is the phone seems to get rather hot when surfing the net and when playing a game it gets almost too hot to hold and the games crash.
My next issue is with the keyboard. Is there anyways to get the period on the letter screen. What moron came up with the idea to not have the period there should be fired. I like the default keyboard a lot besides that and would like to keep it.

Usually charging with the ports on your computer or PS3 is a lot slower than just using the wall charger. The only thing I can tell you is make sure that the cable is in all the way.
Also, as a side note, the included USB cable is the worst USB cable I've ever used. That thing fits into the XPERIA so tightly that I have to use a hell lot of force to pull it out.

That's way better then any USB cable on my OG Droid,it was so loose,it fell out of the port when you moved the phone.

Unfortunately it's the port I just paid $40 for a brand new charger (so mad) I can see a corner of the dock got broke off. I'm bidding on a parts tablet on ebay right now fingers crossed. Otherwise it's for parts on ebay and try to get back some money?
Different problem now
So I decided to open up the tablet and charge the battery by connecting a usb cable with one side stripped and soldered the positive and negative to the proper leads on the battery. So Now I get a red light flashing 10 times on the side where the power button and volume buttons are. Before I had nothing at all. Any Suggestions?

What voltage is the battery??? I have used a stripped USB cable many times to revive a dead phone battery. 5V => 3.72V is safe enough... I know the battery from the STS is a 9Vish (from memory) prehaps you could wire off the end of your tablet charger for the extra voltage?? SOUNDS LIKE FUN
so what did you end up doing? trash, won your ebay auction? sell yours??? send to sony? i'd like to know since parts for these things are going to be hard to source. also what model do you have?
