Does anyone know if our Galaxy Tab 2 (I have the 7" if that matters) will support a 64GB Micro SDXC card? For example: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Mobil...WIA2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336508200&sr=8-1
I am looking to use a 64GB for my dash project if it will work, as 32GB after offline navigation maps, isn't much room for music for me... hopefully it will support it, I just don't want to buy it and it not work...
Thanks in adv.!
Samsung makes a USB adapter and a sd card connector that would let you have additional storage besides the built in sd card slot.
Site says it is not compatible with original Galaxy 7.0, but doesn't make mention of any other Galaxy Tab.
Your main issue would be getting power to the tab...you would be able to hook a USB hub to the Samsung adapter...then off the hub, have additional storage and one going to a charger cable...not sure if that would fry anything though...and even if that worked, you'd be getting a trickle charge.
Alternately, you could hack up one of the Sammy docks which offer some different port options. The site doesn't list any of these accessories specific to the Tab2, but I'm guessing the 7.0 plus accessories work until they release the official Tab2 accessories.
no, this card will not work with this tablet. i brought this tab for my daughter, i have a xoom with a 64gb card in it. I also have a spare 64gb card. I placed it in her tab and it was not recognized. It was already formatted and working in my xoom.

Now I regret giving my Xoom to my Dad!
My co-worker just put his Sandisk 64GB Ultra SDXC card in his stock (rooted) Galaxy Tab 2 and it shows no problem.
Here's the proof:

Definitely ordering this card now... here is the SD card used in the above screenshot: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Mobil...WIA2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336659149&sr=8-1
i'll try again later. i do know that i put the card in and the device asked to format it. i let it, and still nothing. i will experiment some more later.
edit: i see his device is rooted, that might be why it works.
Yea, I know when he put his in, it took almost a minute for the device to show that the card was in there... but we chalked that up to the fact that it has a ton of stuff on it.
Also, this card is currently being used in his rooted, ICS running ATT Samsung Galaxy S II.. so maybe that has something to do with it (it's in the proper ICS format already).
maybe soon they will do a save to SD option... then i will have a reason to buy a bigger SD card

If you inserted the card & it asked you to format it. It means it can't read what format (NTFS, exFat) is currently on the card. Once you format it (FAT32), the device will recognize the card.
Almost android tablet and phone can use 64GB SDXC card . I sold memory card for 2 years

So you are Komputerbay?
I've bought a few memory cards from you! Best prices! Wish you had more shipping options or had Prime shipping.
And I bought this exact one last week and got it in the mail Tuesday.
When I got the card, it worked flawlessly on the PC.
I did have to try quite a few things before I got it to work in the tablet.
BUT I did finally get it to work!
Below is a list of what I tried and the results.
#5 is what works!
This was tested using the Galaxy Tab 2 7" running dsb9938's UEALD3 Stock, rooted, de-odexed rom and his kernel update 5.
Also tested using my phone, AT&T Captivate (sgh-1897) running AOKP ICS 4.04
Things I tried:
1. Format using SD Formatter (it formatted the card to ExFat)
The tab (running stock rom and custom kernel) tries to mount the card then says "ready to unmount".
The phone (running AOKP 4.04) tries to mount the card and then says "damaged card".
2. Used Easus Partition Master to delete the card's partition and re-format to Fat32.
The tab looks like it mounts the card, but then I start getting FC's left and right.
"process.android.media"
"MTP application"
"Factory Test"
"Software update"
Trying to get to the Storage in Settings.
^^ all the above FC
Phone shows "damaged card".
3. Used Easus PM to delete the partition, create a new partition, but leave unformatted.
-Same result as above
4. Used Easus PM to delete the partition and leave unpartitioned.
-Neither device recognizes a card is inserted.
**** This works! ****
5. Take the existing memory card (that I know works) out of the tablet and attach to PC using adapter.
a. Use Easus PM to delete the partition on the new sd card.
b. Use Easus PM's "Clone Partition" wizard to copy my old card to the new card.
c. The wizard allows you to resize the new card's partition.
*Be sure to do this else the new card's size will be the same size as your original card.
d. Once Easus PM reports everthing is done, eject that bad boy and slap it into the tablet!
***DO NOT RUN "Format SD card" from the tablet Settings!
It will "break" the card again (just repeat process if you do).
A little verbose, I know, but I thought maybe someone will find the info helpful!
64 gb in (rooted) SGT 2 10.1 ?
Anyone knows if 64 gb sd card could work in a (rooted) SGT 2 10.1 ?
Grtz,

Just a word of warning here. Some devices, even new ones, will occasionally have problems with SDXC cards even if the card is recognized and usable after formatting (or even without first formatting it). The issue comes into play when you pass the 32GB limit on the card. Files may become corrupted, not save, become unreadable, or you may lose a majority of the card's data overall.
By no means am I saying it will happen, but that it can. The card may work fabulously up until 32GB before any problems arise.

Can anyone confirm if this really happens? What happens if I copy more than 32GB of videos/music/photos to the 64GB card? Will they just not get recognized
by the GT2 7.0? Or will the files get corrupted? (not that it matters, these are
all video/music/photos that I view to kill time while flying)
Thanks!

I second this request. This is the major reason I am still holding off on trying SDXC. I would appreciate any feedback on trying this.
Easy thing to try. Backup your SD card, find 33GB of data and start copying.
format it FAT 32
for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 format your 64gb microSDXC as Fat 32
Ive read that ICS uses exfat?

I currently have 31.99 GB of movies on my 64 GB card. The movies will still open and play just fine in the stock video player.
I have 36GB on my card. The card is fat formatted. The card would not be recognized when I formatted it with my PC and exfat. I used my phone to format it with fat. I read you might have to use a DOS command to format fat beyond 32GB`s with a PC.

I just bought a Kingston 32GB class 4 micro sdhc card. it seems it is not working correctly. here are the symptoms:
1. after the first time bootup wizard, several apps (widgets, settings apps) crashed.
2. every reboot it start the "first time startup" wizard.
I am not sure if it is a faulty card or I missed a step installing android on my card. All the builds I used work on my older 8gb card.
can any one help me with this problem?

Try to reflash your rom to with task 29,format the card, and install android fron the begining, not a copy from your old card, and install all the app manually again, not from a backup,,maybe this will solve the problem!
Try doing a fresh install instead of just copying files over.
I did try a fresh install. I didn't copy my old install to the card. I tried 3 different builds (fresh).
at the last try, I did a diff on the sdcard and the android build folder, it seems files are copied over to the sdcard correctly.
but everyboot it launches the setup wizard. it seems data are not being save to the sdcard in Android.
Where can I get task 29?

This will help.. Its from DaDoctor in the Core Cell Evo Rom forum.
"If you are experiencing odd behavior from the ROM (random freezes, slow down, etc) download and run task29. Please be sure you UNDERSTAND what you are doing! This app will format the internal memory of your HD2, removing any trace of previous ROMs, Radios, ETC. So, after the application runs, you will have NO OS on your phone! You will have to flash from SD or from RUU via bootloader (by holding the volume down button on bootup). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=644781"
Check the datasheet, find out if high speed 32gb cards require a different clock speed. This is the case of sd versus sdhc.. I'm guessing it doesn't tho, as 32gb is under the sd 2.0 spec. Create a working android 'folder' with another card, transfer the contents to the new card - see if you still have problems. And yes, I understand that is the opposite of what has been said in this thread.
It doesn't seem like a task29 will help. This is an android related issue with the change being a sd card.. Formatting the nand seems strange.

Hey buddy!! Bad news for you. Kingston doesn't make a class 4 32GB microsd cards yet!!! I am assuming you bought it from ebay. There are some people out there who modify a 1GB or 2GB or 8GB card to report it as 32GB. But when you try to write data on it, it gets corrupted.
If you want to check this is the case or not then
format your card. Put a lot of data on it(movies, songs or anything you want) and fill it up all the way. Now try to copy the data on a different computer. If you get errors while copying, your card is reporting a wrong capacity and you can file for a money back claim on ebay!!
Edit: Here's a link to such Kingston 32GB cards which sells for $10:d

I have been running android on a SanDisk 32gb class 2 card from amazon for a couple of weeks now, no problems. The card is noticeably slower(%75 or so) on android boots then a 16gb class 2 card, but after that it is the same. Well worth the extra storage.

I am thinking of getting a 64gb micro sd card (which I believe will work in the GS2), how easy is it to transfer the apps and content that are already on my 32gb card? I is it as easy as just copying the content from the current card to my pc then copy it back to the new 64gb card?

Also, yes. It should be as easy as copying the content from one card to another.
Goes on sale tomorrow on Amazon UK for £99.
The SanDisk 64GB microSDXC does work in the SGS2 -- I've been using it for about a month now. If you're transferring stuff from an old memory card, I'd recommend the following procedure.
Remove the old card from your SGS2 and put in the new 64GB card.
Power up the SGS2; it'll say something like "external SD card is damaged. Do you want to reformat?" Say yes, and let the SGS2 reformat the card from exFAT to FAT32.
Remove the 64GB card from the SGS2.
Mount both the old & new memory cards on a PC, and do the copy there. Use your PC's SD card slot or a USB reader.
Once everything's copied to the 64GB card, put it in your SGS2 and you're done.
Isnt only up to 48gb sd card supported on our S2?
A couple of people have tried the SanDisk microSDXC 64GB , and it appears to work fine , after a format in the phone , 48gb is just the official max.
See thread in link below.

Hello there,
I just bought a 32GB Class 10 Samsung MicroSD card.
After inserting it, I made sure the phone sees it, and the computer sees it.
So I started transfering files to it...
Every time I try to transfer files to it, the cards sort of unmount, the computer stops seeing the External/Internal storage drivers info (0/0 KB and no files).
I realized I might be needing to format it, so I went to recovery and formatted the external card. Still no good...
If I don't try to transfer files, the internal sd card still works fine.
Am I formatting it wrong? or some other issue? Did I buy a faulty card?
Thanks!
P.S. Some info incase needed:
Using Galaxy S2 obviously, Resurrection Remix ICS 4.04
My PC is running XP SP3

If unsure about the quality of your SD card google for h2testw. It is a Windows test software you can use to test your SD card.
Tried formatting it... still no good.
And h2test tries to copy a file repeatedly and after some time it also gets stuck like I do manually...
I was running into the exact same issue as you with an SD card awhile back. Tried many, if not all of the suggestions listed here. Sometimes, the cards just die on you, especially at the most inopportune times...

Open CMD
Type format [letter_of_external_card]: /x
ex.
format E: /x
and wait.
Then format again (through Windows Explorer) with this settings:
FAT32
default allocation size
fast formatting checked
and share the results.

Failure of h2test is normally due to defective hardware.
For SD cards I do not really know but when it comes to USB sticks there are many around that are just cheap crap. You could for instance buy a 8GB stick that will happily accept 8GB of data but only store 4-6GB!. This is where h2test comes into play: it will not only write but also read and therefore check if the data written was really stored in the flash.

Class 10? That card might be just too fast for your hardware.
I'm using Sandisk 32GB Class 4 and never had any problems.
I have tried some Class 6 and Class 8 cards with very various results.
Only class 8 card I found correctly working in my device was Memorex, but it was only 4GB.
So I gave up on fast cards...
its fake or corrupt, did you buy the samsung off a retailer , you always test flash with h2testw before you use it, speed is not the issue,i got a class 10 32gb i had many 16,256,4gb fakes, only 3.7 gb usable droped down to 1kb write then windows couldnt read the storage so you reformat again.
Hi all,
I bought an Sandisk 16GB class 10 card, and when the phone wakes up I sometimes get message like "SD card blank or has unsupported file system" or "SD card damaged" or "SD card unexpectedly unmounted". Then I re-mount card or do a reboot, and everything is normal for a while, and then it happens again.
I've checked card for errors on PC, and I've check the card with h2testw, and everything is ok.
Have tried to different formats: exFat, default allocation size, FAT32 default, 16kB, 32kB and even tried from somebody here on forum 8kB allocation size, and I always have the same problem.
I have GT-I9300, XXLF5.
3.0.15-705505-user Kernel.
Any ideas?
I've got the same issue with my Sandisk 64GB ultra microsdxc card.. I've tried formatting it in my computer twice, to no avail.
I am running XXLG1 and siyah kernel.
i have the same 16gb micro sd but i used the phone to format it and havn;t met with any issues.
Might be a hardware problem. Try removing sd card and using compressed gas to blow away any dust particles. If that doesn't work try cleaning contacts on microsd card but that's all the ideas I've got. Either sd card is bung or the sd card reader in the phone is.
You could try another sd card in the phone if you have one and if you still get the same problem take back under warranty.
I've 32gb samsung class 10, with the same issue....
The card is ok! Sometimes i've this issue. I've formatted and for a few days I didn't have this error, then again...
I'll try with another sd...
Try format the SD card from the phone, not from pc,it's done from settings,storage/format. Ext sd,this should fix it.
remember to backup everything on sdcard as the will completely wipe your sd

I had the same problem.
I tried 4 memory cards and one of them is working which is 16 GB and its local brand.
I have a SanDisk 32 GB class 10 and its not working with my SGSIII.
I think that's why all nexuses don't have memory card slot.
Any way try alternative memory cards.

I'm no using my trusted ole 2GB microSD which came with an HTC Hero, and it's way more stabile but it stille happens on occation.
Does seem to be related to custom ROM since it happens to me regardless of the installed ROM.
Is everyone who is experiencing this problem running JellyBean?
If so, it's probably related to this issue rather than an issue with the physical SD Card.

I have a 64gb Sandisk Ultra SDXC card formatted in exFAT. I had been using the card in my NOTE 2 with no issues. I normally keep all of my movies, music, emulators, and ROMs on it so I can keep space free on my phone. This morning I got my phone setup the way that I wanted it and I decided to install the SD card into the new phone. Everything seemed to go okay, I got a message telling me that it was preparing the card, but after the message disappeared, the SD card was not recognized. There were no error messages regarding the card, it simply did not show any additional storage on the phone and all options regarding the card with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" were not accessible.
I took ejected the card and formatted it to NTFS to see if that would make a difference and when I reinserted it into the (M8), it recognized it as a blank SD card that was not in the proper format. It prompted me to format the card while still installed in the device, which it did without error. After the format was complete I received the same "Preparing SD Card" message that I received before, but after the message disappeared, the card still didn't show up as additional storage.
Through a root browser I have the option to enter extSD, but nothing I put on the card is there. I then took the card back out, installed it into my Note 2 and it worked with no problems at all. Finally I ejected the card, reinstalled it in the (M8) again, it gives me the same prompt as before, but after the message disappears the additional storage does not show up and all options with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" are inaccessible once again.
I have tried the fix found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700310 to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening and is there any way that I can solve the problem?

If you have a USB card reader, try formatting the card as FAT32 with your computer.
I believe most cards come pre-formatted as FAT32 by default. I've always just put the cards in my Android devices without any formatting, and they work just fine.
Not sure why the device's default format didn't work, but possibly formatting on a computer will get it working.
It's possible that SD may be dying.
I had a 32gb card that a friend left with me to fill with movies/etc, but since I wasnt going to see them for a while, I decided to use it with my old LGOG. Not 3 days later, I get what you described, and now the card isnt even seen by Windows.
Even with formatting the card, it would work again for a few minutes, but as soon as I tried copying more than ~3 gigs, the card would go corrupt again.
SD cards dont last forever yo.

I just tried it out a few minutes ago. I don't know why, but it's working perfectly fine in Windows, a Note 2, S3, and an S5. I have no idea what's going on, but no matter what I try, nothing makes it work on this phone.

I was able to get the card formatted form exFAT to FAT32 and it looked like it was going to work, same with NTFS. I inserted it into the phone, waited for it to prepare the card and this time I got a message telling me that the SD Card was damaged, but I could format it in the phone. I followed the instructions, just as I had before, it went through it's thing, got to the part where it attempted to mount the card, appeared as though it was going to mount, and then nothing, just like with everything else. I have no idea what's going on.
I ran some tools on it and the card appears to be in good condition, so I have no idea what to do. I don't know if it's the phone, or if it is the card. I'm thinking about buying a 128gb card, but I'm afraid if I do, I'm going to find myself in the exact same position that I'm in now and out a lot of money to boot.
I'm loosing my mind with this thing.
Surely you must know someone that has a MicroSD card you can try. Trying another would pretty much eliminate the card as being the issue (and possibly the card tray or similar component on the phone). I have at least 2 "spare" MicroSD cards laying around.
I had a similar problem few weeks ago and I did format my 64gb card with GUIFORMAT on my win 7 PC and since then no more problem. Here is the link: http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/323-gui-format-fat32-drive-formatter/
Thank you. I'll give it a shot right now.

You, sir, just won all my Internets. I don't know what it was about that app, but it worked like a champ the first time around. I don't get it either. I had used so many tools to get it to FAT32, but this one did the trick. I formatted the card, inserted it...was totally waiting for it to not work, and I noticed "Unmount SD Card". I read it and thought "hmmm, that's not right", lol. Then it dawned on me that it worked. Copying folders over to it now. Thanks so much, bud. I really owe you one.

Nice. I've heard that the native Windows formatting tool is not the best (although its always worked fine for me), so this might be one of those instances.

Thanks. I had the same problem with a brand new 128GB card with only this phone (HTC One E8 Dual). Until I found this. So far working like a charm. You ARE a star.
