notifications waking up the screen are killing me.. if my phones in my pocket and the screen wakes up, then every step i take, my thigh hits the screen and keeps it awake for hours till i check the phone or it dies first..
sometimes when i get certain notifications, such as low battery, it keeps the screen on indefinitely (ironicly battery warning is a huge battery killer lol..), so does charger connected/disconnected.
anyways there's my rant, my question is,
; has anybody come across a way to stop the screen from turning on when getting a notification? it already lights up, vibrates, has a smart reminder option, and a led indicator, I'd really love to stop the screen from lighting up.
ill give 'Thanks' to anyone throwing out suggestions

are you talking about the sms app? use a custom one
SMS app is one culprit, so is email, Google talk, battery notifications, LINE messager, and a zillion other 3rd party apps.. itd be much more realistic to find a lock screen off solution, or remove the service that lets apps lightup the screen

Easy fix, get SMS popup app, go into the stock SMS app and disable notifications, now go into the SMS popup app and in notifications , click and enable notifications. Now go into additional settings and unchecked screen on for pop-up . That's it, you'll get notifications without the screen turning on.

Soraxd,
What lock screen do you use?
I have a good workaround, but it involves using WidgetLocker lock screen which is hands down the most killer optioned lock screen around.
Let me know if your interested.

soraxd,
Workaround...works pretty much flawless on my S3 with ICS.
Install Widget Locker. You mentioned that it was not as fast as your stock lock screen. On my old retired HD2 and my 6 month old S3, W.L. is actually faster than stock. The key thing is that you have the settings maximized...which include disabling the stock lockscreen from withing ICS/JB settings. (I can give you more info if it runs slow for you) I just set my wife's new S3 with the same configuration and it works perfect. I can unlock and relock W.L. pretty darn quickly...no delays at all.
Then in W.L., I use a simple Iphone style unlock to slide and have that at the bottom of my W.L. screen so my thumb can easily reach. I have many widgets on the screen. (agenda/last caller/clock etc) Then I use a free app named Invisible Lock Widget. You drop this widget into W.L., and you LAYER IT OVER all other widgets except the slide to unlock. (This is one of W.L.'s coolest features)
First off, W.L. should be set for 10secs time out...so less chance of your leg re-triggering it in the first place. 2nd thing, when your leg triggers the screen because it has turned on due to a notification or what-have-you, then Invisible Lock Widget actually re-locks the screen. It's that simple. Sometimes I press the menu button to turn my screen on to look at the time, and 2secs later I click the screen and it quickly and easily turns off thanks to I.L.W. Once you get used to it, you will find it is very convenient and efficient. Like I said, it's a work around and also has other benefits.
Widget locker can be set to suppress the "power button long press menu" if it gets triggered in your pocket. It cannot suppress the "low battery" warning popups that show up above W.L. but the dev might be adding that. (I requested it) I have a Tasker workaround for that. If your running Tasker, I will share that with you. It works like a charm. With all these little workarounds, I no longer do the "Pocket Launch thing".
I love the "swipe up an icon to launch that application" feature of the lock screen on the One. But I've noticed that (seemingly randomly) it just stops working. For instance, I'll grab the chrome icon and swipe up, and the phone won't register that I've grabbed anything, and the screen just unlocks. Rather than an icon floating with my swipe gesture -- the lockscreen just fades out and then the phone displays whatever activity was open when the screen was turned off (almost like I've grabbed the lock icon, though I haven't). Has anyone else experienced this? And how can i get it to go back to the default behavior?
Did you install any kind of notifier that would display on top of the lock screen? I found out that after installing Notifierpro with accessibility services turned on it messed up the Sense lock screen.
I have posted my experience on a different thread and did not see your post. I just thought maybe you are experiencing the same problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2276188
Mine sorta does the same thing. Sometimes I will grab an icon (any icon for that matter) and it won register the swipe at all, It won't even bother unlocking and it wont register any swiping at all until I do one of two things
- I will have to hit the power button twice to sleep and wake the device then swipe to unlock
or
- Hit the Home or Back button then swipe to unlock
anyone experience this? hope this helps
I just want to share my recent issue with my Sense lock screen not working properly. To disable the lock screen, you normally would need to swipe up, and the same goes for the dock shortcuts. For some reason, my lock screen suddenly stopped working that way. Just by clicking anywhere on the screen, it will disable the lock screen without having to swipe up. Any Sense lock screen I chose had the same problem. This was really annoying me as my concern about accidental dial or text begins to grow. I tried to disable and uninstall different apps that I have recently installed. Unfortunately, I've been installing plenty of apps and didn't realize that the lock screen got messed up. After so many uninstall or disable of apps, I found out that the NotifierPro app was the culprit. It didn't play nice with the Sense lock screen. I thought if somebody had the same issue, might be good to check if you have NotifierPro installed or any app that will display notification while your phone is locked, that might be causing the problem with your lock screen.
Thanks so much for figuring this out. I've been wondering why my lockscreen stopped working all of a sudden. It was because I had installed light flow.
Any notification app that needs accessibility service turned on will affect the Sense lock screen. I'm really disappointed because there's plenty of notification apps I like to use such as notifier pro and the floating notification that's available here on XDA. I really hope there's a fix for this issue.

ahhh thank you for figuring this out. I was wondering for awhile what it was and didn't remember that I had recently installed notification history (uninstalled some keyboards and other random apps though). It was fixed for a little bit after a software update, but came back. Makes sense now that it probably wasn't until I received my first notification again that it stopped working...
Uninstalled it and voila...back to normal!
So its hit or miss... on stock messaging app I turned off that preview option so it doesn't show the text in the status bar or lock screen. But how do I stop the lock screen from turning on when a text comes in. Like I said I feel like its hit or miss or maybe I'm just nuts but sometimes I feel like it does and sometimes it doesn't.
If you are rooted, you can use Xposed to show that option: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293956 (under applications, "Show screen on toggle"), then you can go to the messaging app and turn it off.
I read online that people said that the device does not show any notification from whatsapp or another third application on lock screen.
Is that correct?
i will not have the option to see the message on lock screen and answer it straight from lockscreen?
Thanks
It's about Always On Display. Not the lock screen.
