I use my school's wifi on my amaze, and normally I can't go on the internet but I can use WiFi calling.
A few days ago, I found out that on my friend's iPhone, that you have to enter the proxy URL while configured to "Auto". I check my WiFi settings and it says I need a port number? How do I get the proxy to be set to auto?
OR. since the proxy is actually a .pac file that i downloaded off the URL, how do i put it into my Amaze?

All,
Trying to figure out what is the best way to setup your network connections on WM6 roms. I'm currently a Tmobile user in USA. The data plan im on, uses a proxy server. So it created an interesting problem if any expert out there can figure this out. HEre goes:
network wizard creates : Tmobile Data, Tmobile mms, on top of the My work network (empty setting), My ISP. None of them uses proxy.
Ok then I went ahead added the proxy into Tmobile Data config then IE works, push mail works from mail2web. AOl emails,YAHOO emails, weather ...etc stops working cuz the proxy.
Ok I decided to play with network management settings like a lot people suggested: I picked My work network (empty setting) as internet, Tmobile Data as private network connect. Now AOL,YAHOO ...etc anything cant use proxy server works, but my IE and PUSH mail fails.
My question is are there ways to tie connection to each application? actually tie into each mail account.
I remember there use to be a skipping proxy cab somewhere, I'm willing to try that cab if someone has it. I just need proxy to be transparents to some mail accounts and maybe applications like HTC weather.
Thank you. Let me know if I confusses everyone.
All,
Ok i did a partial fix.
Changed all the aol, yahoo, accounts to use work connection.
push mail can only use internet connection which has to have proxy. now that my sync doesnt like it, will fail with unreachable sever during sync because of the proxy. More digging. I know there are more tmobile web users out there. anyone has other suggestions?
I called AT&T today cause i got the WM6.1 Standard ROM and my internet wouldnt work, and they gave me the GPRS and Proxy settings if anyone is interested in getting the settings.
Erm... Were you going to share them?
Go to Start->Settings->Connections->GPRS
if there isnt a setting for A&T already, click new. (name it what you want)
Connects To: The Internet
Access Point: wap.cingular
Leave the rest blank
Click Done, then go to Proxy Settings
Again, if there isnt any settings for AT&T, click new. (name it what you want)
Connects From: The Internet
Connects To: WAP Network
Proxy (name: port): wireless.cingular.com:80
Type: HTTP
Leave the rest blank.
Should work like a charm.
Also, under Internet Explorer, make sure you have 'automatically detect settings' checked under the connection settings in the browser.
Hmmm, I only put the GPRS settings in and it worked, but I constantly loose my connection, I wonder if I need to put in the proxy settings. Guess I try it and see. Gets real irritating when the connection drops all of the time.
Thanks for the info
I entered both sets of settings, and it works flawlessly. Thanks!
I'm using a 3G data connection that requires a http proxy.
So... I've defined a proper APN with proxy.
Browser is the only program that I can use with this connection (only page view, no download). All the rest application that need an internet connection simply doesn't work.. nothing. Even the download from the browser doesn't work.
I've tried with another APN that's not using a proxy and works. Also with WiFi is ok.
So, my question is: it is posible to enable http proxy in ALL programs? I had no problem on Symbian or Windows Mobile..
This is by no means a definite answer, but in your APN, try adjusting the "APN type" setting. On Telus, it's: default, mms
From what I understand you can try a combination of those two settings, or set it to nothing. See what results you get.
Thanks for the reply
Unfortunately no change.
While it's not the response you were hoping for, since no one else has responded, I would contact my provider if I were in your position. See if they can offer any insight. Good luck!
Thanks but my provider cannot do anything. I've used this connection on other platforms without problem (windows mobile, symbian).
The problem is that application take just the apn without proxy details.. Only the browser is using the proxy
It seems that's an Android issue ..
You may star this issue:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1273&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
so maybe google will understand the importance of this feature.. i'm still wondering why it's not implemented as it should..
I'm currently using Proxydroid and it works great in my office corporate wi-fi network, all my apps can access the internet and I have no problems. However, when I set it up for my school wi-fi proxy, it doesn't work.
My school's wi-fi proxy has authentication but the actual network is not protected, my office wi-fi proxy is the other way around, the proxy does not need authentication but the network is WPA Enterprise protected.
I'm running CM9 with a nightly build. I tried setting up the proxy directly in the wifi settings and when I do it and browse through CM9's browser, I input my username and password and I can browse the internet fine, but only through the browser. My other apps can't access the internet.
Help?
Same problem here... Anyone ?
So, I had my phone flashed and rooted but it had a very old version that was crashing on me like crazy. Obviously, they guy who did the job and sold it to me, warned me to not use LTE and he had configured it to be disabled by default.
There is a configuration setting that got reset after I updated to Jelly Bean, which by the way there was another update that I just received today. (Ver: 3.16.651.3 710RD).
So I know how frustrating it gets when you want the Internet to properly work including video playback and also MMS settings. There is actually a video on how to configure these things but I just wanted to drop these settings here for everyone that can't view videos to just read them. So here are the steps to follow for: (connection lost to server, retry... etc). My phone does not have "root" and everything works flawlessly. Flash is kept after software updates so, no need to reflash if you update HTC Software.
Dial ##3282# then enter the pass which by default is 000000 unless you have changed it to something else when changing prl.
After that is done you should see the EPST configuration panel, if checked, uncheck USB Charging that's at the bottom.
Navigate to: Advanced>RTSP/HTTP Setting for RSTP Proxy IP just tap it and enter the following:
RTPS Proxy IP = 0.0.0.0
RTSP Proxy Port (mine is 554) and works fine
HTTP Proxy IP = 0.0.0.0
HTTP Proxy port 8085
Now; go back using the back "<" illuminated button on the bottom and configure Advanced>MMSC Settings as follows (tap to configure):
MMSC = h ttp://mms[dot]vtext[dot]com/servlets/mms and hit ok
MMS Proxy (leave it blank, erase whatever is there)
MMS Port enter 8080 and hit ok
MMS Protocol (I'm using 2.0)
The next trick is to download Go SMS Pro from app store and configure its settings as follows:
Tap the squared boxed button that's at the left top corner and then select "Settings" from the pop up screen.
Navigate to: MMS Settings>MMSC enter h ttp://mms[dot]vtext[dot]com/servlets/mms MMS Proxy, mine is blank so I don't know if there is an actual value for it; and for MMS Port enter 8080
Exit out from it and it should save it.
This should enable to you to send MMS however, when attaching photos to send, always choose MMS icon that's on the left when you get the screen options of smiley face, mic, go with hand icon, paint, last is the MMS icon, you should always select it when sending MMS otherwise it will send link instead of the actual image.
== Additional working features with these configuration settings ===
Now, comes WiFi Thetering, at the time of this post I was having trouble connecting to the Internet since I moved to my new apartment so I lost my Internet because I haven't called in for a new service. I became curious about my internet connection. I had tried it before and it failed to keep its connection alive. I would get error, disconnected from wireless service etc etc. It would never connect and it worked one time luckily. However after I lost it, it never worked again, I read today from an article about the USB Charging option with custom ROM however mine is stock. So, I disabled USB debugging from settings and connected it while it was open and it worked fine, it hasn't disconnected since then, however the USB Debugging check appeared again after I had it connected. It could be USB debugging setting that is messing the connection, so try disabling it and connecting with USB.
I haven't tried hotspot yet as I want to publish this before disconnecting since I don't have Internet but from my phone's. If you have something to add, or have a question, just post it here. I will try to help, as for the configuration, everything works fine, Facebook, Pandora, twitter, fast internet speeds, and also Youtube. Did I mention the speeds for WiFi tethering is duper fast? Yeah, it's almost like any regular Internet service, very fast. I"m using Windows 8 Pro 64-bit btw
LTE?
