If you're new to flashing your TP, like that guy said...in the dev forum you'll find everything. There's one guy in particular who makes great video tuts, you can find all his stuff here. CM9 is based on ICS to answer your question, which is what you would have found if you tried Google. Basically if you'd tried google, you would've found answers to all of your questions. Look under the Reverend Kyle's youtube channel, his app is free if you have an Android phone. That's a handy way to watch his vids during the install process. And if you use google, you'll probably find his app.
The Rootzwiki guys are doing all of the development, so although you'll find pretty good and reliable info here, the most accurate up-to-date info will be at their site, rootzwiki.com or something..again, use Google. I don't have time to look stuff up for you.

Actually not all the developement is from rootzwiki. Evervolv and classicnerd are doing quite a bit of developement, OaT, and many others are making quite nice roms based on cm. So there are 4 different sources at github to choose from.

Ok like many others, I have horrible battery life since updating to 2.3.6.
I want to put 2.3.4 back on, since I never had any issues with it.
So is it possible to go back to Stock 2.3.4 from 2.3.6? If so, I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
Thanks.

The reason I asked Mr Smarty pants is because I wasn't sure if it was able to downgrade the OS.
Wasn't the bootloaders updated in 2.3.6? Im not too hip with all that stuff. Im running stock and wanted to stay stock, but didn't know if upgrading to 2.3.6 was a one way trip.

If you weren't sure YOU SHOULD HAVE SEARCHED. You're not special, what makes you think that you can start a new thread all on your own instead of finding one of the many threads discussing the EXACT same topic?

What he said. I tried to be nice by using sarcasm, but sometimes you just need to speak it plainly. Thanks, Ent.
So much energy is spent on hammering people for opening new threads and not searching.
Yes, we know we should search, but with all due respect the search doesn't always work that good. Instead of mocking, don't you think it would be shorter and friendlier to simply answer, or help directing the OP, like in the 2nd reply in this post? Just a thought.

The thread about going back to 2.3.4 was on the first page of the General forum when this thread was created (yeah, I checked). Didn't even need to do a search to find it, just look. That's the height of laziness to not even make a cursory look of the threads before starting a new one. Curbing future misbehavior benefits the forum because NO ONE in here is paid to be here. This is NOT the Help Desk. You do best to remember that when you come in. The help you get is a gift and following the rules shows you respect that.

Is this a joke? You have close to 500 posts and you do not know where to go to find how to ROOT or find a ROM to install???
Please do a search next time and do some reading.
Roms are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1496
and Rooting can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1496
i see a ton of roms, but usualy i see threads say to root this device etc... im gratefull for anyone that helps thank you EDIT i found one says prerooted
Most device forums have stickies at the top that cover basics like recovery, root, and a list of roms. Here's ours - Its called the Super Everything Thread, by Bigjoe, a great man around here:

Hello guys, I was wondering if there is a available clean untouched stock JB 4.1.2 XWLS8 rom in zip format?
What i mean by zip is the file that can be placed on the sd card and flashed directly via CWM recovery?
I am not very comfortable with using PC Odin, and would prefer to install the rom from the phone. If one is available can someone provide link, if not then can our developers kindly make one. Thanks
yes there is. Plz search in the development section
Theres too many roms to choose from, could you kindly give me the link to a untouched official jb xwls8 one in zip flashable format? Thanks

There is only "too many" because you're been lazy and not trying to use search. Rule #1 of XDA rules is that you should use search before creating topics etc.
I'm not going to link you directly to rom because you wont learn nothing but if for example you had thought about using search you could have put xwls8 as keyword, set it to search titles only and chose the Galaxy S II Original Android Development forum as your desired forum to search.
Please think about what state this forum would be in if nobody used searched and created a topic asking other people where things are it would be a complete mess and to be honest its on that way anyway so please try and use search first before creating topics.
I am not a developer, there are too many roms, and also everyone is not familiar with all the technical jargon. The whole point of q and a is to help people and direct them in the right direction according to their needs. Atleast my question isnt as silly as some of the stuff you see here.

Yes, however its not there to be spoon feed you, ie used instead of search button and expecting everybody else to do your searching for you.
Users are expected top use search first before creating topic. For the most part in 99% of cases somebody has already asked your question. In this case you could have answered it yourself within seconds by using search in way I described above.

Correct, However that is still no excuse.
Okay by providing one link it would have solved the issue, but some wise people like to prolong a simple answer. Happy days
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
The point is you can easily find this information yourself. You're obviously too lazy to do that, you also clearly feel entitled to someone else doing the 'easy thing' for you - searching for a link; do you honestly believe everyone has this info right at their fingertips ? Most don't. Most people would have to search for it. In the time you'd wait for someone who did have the link on hand without searching for it, you could find it yourself, flash the rom & be on your merry way.
This is something you're capable of doing yourself. It comes down to whether you do the 'easy thing', or whether someone else does it.
I don't see why someone else should, and I absolutely think your expectation that other people should do something so simple for you is appalling.
This isn't your carrier's forum. You haven't paid XDA any money so you have no right to expect anything of the people here.
Hello sorry about this thread there's bound to be more like this but I'm kinda new to all of this. I know roms and how to flash them and all that good stuff been doing that for awhile now and now I'm trying to become a developer and make some roms or some themes now. just need some pointers or if you can give me some of the basics I would need that would be much appreciated.:good:

best place to start is YouTube or a simple Google search. there's tons of videos and tutorials on how to cook Roms and do theming that are very easy to find.
good luck!

i thought all roms were google on google phones. i looked, all the [ROM] threads have weird names. i just need old samsung rom. anyone have it?
All roms are google because google makes android but whenever you buy a phone the company puts there software on top of android. The nexus didnt have any software added so its a pure google rom. Go to the thread I sent you and look for CyanogenMod.

ROMs are phone dependant. What you are looking for is an unaltered version of android, like your nexus had. The closest you will find is a ROM like Cyanogen mod... CM for short, or one that says AOSP in the name (Android open Source Project).
Really you should read the stickies in the main forum and research a little about installing ROMs on a phone. You should not just jump in with no knowledge and expect to get it the way you want right away. This is a lot of the time a trial and error thing until you find a ROM that suits your tastes.
Good luck in your search for a new ROM.

You have a lot of reading and research to do if you ended up paying someone on Craigslist to root your phone. For all you know it only has root and still has the locked bootloader and stock recovery. READ, READ, and then READ SOME MORE.

Yes the galaxy nexus and galaxy note 2 are two total different roms. The note has samsung touchwiz which has alot of great features that pure aosp doesnt but if you are looking for aosp I would suggest cm10.1 or liquidsmooth my 2 favorit aosp roms. Just like the guy stated be sure you know what you are doing before you delve any deeper and have a bricked phone!

but you want cm10.1 like everyone has said. But read dude. You sound like you need to study up

A good start for you is go to settings then all the way at the bottom select about phone. See what build your phone is on and also what andeois version (4.1.2 oe 4.2.2 etc) search for qhat your phone has as those and you can find out if your running a stock or custom rom. From there someone can better help you choose a rom to test. But keep in mind roms come down to what you like not qhat everyone else likes. I'm currently running the transnebula tab rom and loving right now. But always read read read before doing anything if you're new to this. Then when you think you're ready read some more then test

Just run someone else's rom. If you cant find the cm thread on your own, you got a slim chance of cooking a rom. I mean good luck but it sounds like a terrible idea to me and you dont know much about android dude. Use google to find a guide. Its not difficult friend

Read more.... lots more and jump in! It's a lot if work, but you can make your own, but you will need research. You won't get the info you need by asking, you won't get enough to succeed. Sure I could point you to the ROM kitchen thread or a thread with guides to compile and AOSP ROM from source, but I'm betting you dont know what that means yet. Which is why I say research then when you get stuck people are very helpful.
Ps guys I agree he's not ready yet and is probably best running someone's work, but I always encourage new development
