Should I go from Maxx to OG Razr? - Motorola Droid RAZR

So I have a Maxx and am getting about 6.5 hours of screen on time with just about full days off the charger. That's awesome!!
I have a friend who is a HEAVY user and wants to swap his OG Razr for my Maxx along with some cash.
I was just worried about the battery. I figured I would get half of the usage I'm seeing with my Maxx, but after reading reviews about the terrible battery life threads I'm worried.
What is typical usage that people are seeing?? i just want to be able to use the phone and get throughout the day without it dying.

that's not normal man.. That Razr Maxx should be able to stay alive for 15+ hours with heavy usage.

Someone didn't read the OP!
Anyway to answer your question, with my Razr its possible for me to get 13 hours of battery and 2 hours of screen time. Personally that isn't enough for me so I'm thinking about doing a conversion. I still use very strict juice defender controls.
Personally I wouldn't do it, not worth it, you would be fighting this phones battery every step of the way with your usage.

I find the Razr's battery to be acceptable for normal usage. If you are perpetually watching YouTube, using navigation, tethering, or playing lots of games then it isn't for you.

Once you tried Maxx, there is no turning-back.
That's what she said.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'm going to end up keeping the Maxx. I'm sure the OG razr would be fine. But knowing that I can run whatever I want and never have to worry about the battery dying is pretty sweet.
I think I'd bother me if I switched to the OG razr and constantly saw the battery go down.

Good choice. You would of regretted the trade after first day! I use to have the og Razr. Used it for over 7 days, then exchanged it for the Maxx. I don't regret the Maxx at all!! It's battery life is way.

With soooo many people wanting the battery life of the Maxx, there must be a reason.
I'm waiting for my OG to Maxx conversion to ship.
Given the option, no way I would do OG over Maxx.

IMO, the Maxx also feels much better in hand than the regular RAZR.

Definitely not. Original RAZR has terrible battery life if you're a power user.

Can the Maxx get 5 hours of screen on time on LTE?

I had the Maxx when it first came out for 2 weeks, but was only getting about 4 hours of screen on time on LTE.
I thought it was defective, so I took it back. Since they didn't have any in stock, I went with an iPhone 4S. The iPhone has great battery life, but it's too boring.
So now I want a Maxx again, but I am wondering how yours are performing now that you had a few cycles on the battery.

It performs better than the droid eris, og droid, and my nook tablet, in terms of battery life. Im a very heavy user and a full charge will last me 10 hours or more. Mind you, i didnt get that type of bat life until i froze the bloat ware. And id guess the iphone does get decent battery life with a inch and a half smaller screen, half the processing power, 3g, and that walled garden of suck that is apple. If your careful not to install apps and widgets that eat up your battery through heavy net and cpu usage, the battery life should kill that fruity phones.

Galaxy nexus versus droid razor battery life

Hey guy!
Ok so I am now planning on trading my Galaxy Nexus for either a Razr or Razr Maxx. The battery life is one of the reasons Im trying to get rid of the Nexus, and I dont want to go to something that has the same problem.
My biggest problem now is picking between the two. I prefer the original Razr's form factor (I know weird right?) WAY more than the Maxx's but the Maxx's battery life is on a completely different level. So Im curious, how does the original Razr's battery life stack up again the Nexus'? I know the Maxx will blow it away, but like I said, I would prefer to stick with the original. Im a fairly heavy user, ie. always full brightness and 4G/3G and some light to moderate browsing, depending on the day. I dont watch a LOT of videos and Im usually close to an outlet. I just dont want to be tethered to an outlet like I was with the Nexus.
From what I remember with the brief time I had the Razr, it had pretty decent battery life.
if u are a heavy user, go for maxx
anyway, for me, original razr is the sexiest all the time
There is 0 comparison between the nexus and maxx in terms of battery life. 5+ hours screen on time on 3g is a basic average for me. I work in a shop w 5 other nexus owners. 2 have seidio 3800 and my maxx still last longer. 2 have the 2150 and one on stock battery. They are always plugged into the cord of life lol. I like the nexus. The battery life is terrible. I own the maxx. The battery life is everything you have heard and more.
Have you held the maxx? Its not as thin as the razr but the ascetics aren't lost, still doesn't bulge in a pocket, and it feels sturdier. I have froze bloat and set my sync settings quite low, with moderate use i can get 20 hours on one charge, 12-15 with heavy use.

Not trying to be rude here but did anyone even read my post? I appreciate what everyone is saying about the maxx, but I already know that it will kick but around any phone battery wise. I was curious between the ORIGINAL Razr and Nexus...
I have held both...its just a preference as far as form for me. Again im still leaning toward the original. im just gathering a little more information.
They make a RAZR without the maxx haha.
I originally got the Droid Razr before exchanging it for the Razr Maxx. I can't say much on the Galaxy Nexus battery life since I've never owned one.
The original Razr battery life isn't that good. But you can make it last if you turn off the data through the day. If you leave 4G on, it's not gonna last all day. I don't known if it will on 3G either, but I am a medium to heavy user.
Honesty the Razr may look better, I had the white one and that was sexy!! But the Razr Maxx feels alot better in my hand. Stronger and more like a solid product. The original Razr felt like if I were to ever drop it accidentally, it's a wrap.
Like I always tell people, get the phone that matches what kind of user you are.
If you use your phone heavy and you rely on your phone to last all day, get the Maxx, it's worth it.
If you're not gonna use it that much, maybe lightly, the OG Razr might be for you. I don't care much for the skinnest of it, I just liked the white version. I had it for a week and a couple days, then exchanged it for a Maxx. When my next upgrade comes up, I won't be getting anything less in battery life. It will have to match the Razr Maxx or be even better. But I got a while before I gotta think about that lol.

Get the max and i will trade you my razr for your max
Ive never used a galaxy nexus, but ive owned the the razr and the razr maxx, the battery life on the razr was slightly better than my og droid, 8-10 hours with medium use. I only push the maxx because the difference is only ascetics and theres not alot different even in that area, and the general amazement of getting home from a 10 hour work day not once charging your phone and still having 60% battery is totally worth having a slightly thicker phone. I wouldn't exchange the galaxy nexus for a phone with only a tiny bit more battery life, if any more.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
If it's between the OG Razr and the Galaxy Nexus, I'd rather have the Nexus. Straight ICS and first to get the Android updates....well suppose to be first. Plus it has a better display than the Razr. I heard mostly bad reviews of battery life on the Galaxy Nexus. But honestly in my opinion of using it for a week and some days, the of Razr battery life isn't that great. But like I said, it can last all day if you turn off your data and turn it on casually while you use it. Can you turn off data on the Galaxy Nexus? I'm not talking about airplane mode, just turning off the data. It still keeps the radios on for calls and texting.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
No offense to anyone here but I would take the RAZR<nexus<RAZR maxx
i find my GSM standard battery RAZR battery life to be extremely good with 3g+ data on all day. I wonder if LTE tech will ever improve to not require so much juice, or are high power requirements an inherent property of the spec?
For any kind of serious use, the original Razr battery comes up short. Yeah, you can go through all kinds of extremes, like turning off 4G, limiting syncing while the screen is off, using "smart" strategies and apps like Juice Defender... but all of that just treats symptoms and not the problem. The original Razr has insufficient battery life to last through the day. I don't care how it compares to any other phone. It's insufficient to most people's needs. So, while you seem set on a Razr Vs a nexus, I'll say what most others did... get a Maxx. Be wasteful. Turn your screen brightness all the way up. Use live wallpapers. Enjoy 4G and scream along with 25mbps downloads. And top off the charge every couple days.
I have had both the Razr and the Gnex at the same time.
Right before I sold my Razr, I set it up the same as my GNex and use it throughout the day on 4G. I got 2.75 hours of screen on time. My Nexus gets 2-2.5 with the 2100mah battery.
The reason the Razr gets better screen on time is because of its lower resolution.
I will be picking up a Maxx today. Stoked for it.
Im gonna trade my normal razr for a maxx

What's your screen on time though? To me that is what matters the most when judging battery life.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
I owned a RAZR, (Rezound), a GNex, and now a MAXX. The RAZR battery is the worst battery I've ever had in a phone. I start my day around 5am, and take lunch break at 11:30. My RAZR was consistently at about 20% by lunch. And I was trying to extend battery life by not pushing emails and not syncing weather and calendars. Even my rezound which has a smaller battery and the bloated SenseUI lasted almost twice as long as the RAZR did. And the rezound has the highest screen quality/resolution of any phone in the world, AFAIK, and that is supposedly one of the biggest battery drainers there is. In my opinion, the RAZR and GNex have about the same battery life, enough to last til lunch if you are one of the people who actually take your phone out of your pocket once in a while. Maybe a whole day in standby mode. The maxx on the other hand.... I have 3 email accounts set to push, FB set to push, BLN, weather and calendars set to update/sync every 15 minutes, and screen brightness at about 80%. I leave BT and wifi on all day. And i don't toggle 3g/4g. I live in a very strong 4g area so i never see 3g. And by the time I go to sleep, I am usually between 10-20% depending on if it was a busy day. I have been spoiled by this phone, I will never own a phone again with less than a 3000mAh battery or the option of an extended battery 3000mAh or more. I know I added more than you asked about. But I hope that somewhere in there I answered your question.

24-30 hours or so, give or take. 6-7 hours of screen time, though all depends on my location for service since that is what really drains my battery. Though hopefully to increase said item with a recent tweak. On the leaked ICS rom.
Actually surprised more phones haven't tried to really up there battery size more. Baffles me that "consumer tests" at least the one I read that battery life wasn't a priority for that user group, think it was for HTC. Not a priority? What are they on, if its any business related or making it through a full day on a charge is needed expecially if traveling with limited access to plugs.
Razr Maxx is the only kind of LTE device SHOULD be available to consumer at this stage. All others are kind of deceptive things that use fancy features to lure consumers.
battery is SO important.

Thinking about getting the Razr Maxx

I currently own a Rezound and I love the phone. However, I am about to take a career as a police officer and I need a phone that allows me to not worry about battery life while on my shift. The Rezound has OK battery life if I don't use it often, but even with the extended battery it might not be enough. I've heard great things about the Razr Maxx and it's astonishing battery life, and I'd consider trading the 720p display and unlock/S-off for something that's still fun to tinker with and gets amazing battery life. I need to make sure I have a rock solid, long lasting phone on the job.
Any opinions?
I love the phone. Stock gb I got over 2 days of battery life, but as always, it depends on ur usage habits and how u modify it if u choose to do so. On the ics leak .79 the battery doesn't seem to last as long but then again its a leak and a early one, I'm sure the official release will be just as good as the gb battery life. The later leaks r probably better too but I want to be able to return to stock for the official release when it comes (hopefully by the end of the month but I'm not holding my breath)
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
I can say I get 6 hrs screen on time w the latest 211 leak. On 4glte. The battery is extremely impressive and more than what I really expected it to be.
I came from the rezound and was hesitant at first. I even was considering trading my maxx for a gnex. But the battery life and soon to come ics are keeping me here. The resolution took some getting used to. But overall battery life is more important to me.

I'm new to the RAZR Maxx. I've just come over from an LG Revolution about a week ago but let me tell you, from the perspective of performance, feel, and battery life, this phone is light years ahead of where I'm coming from. Battery aside, I think I've tinkered with the phone enough already to say it's absolutely solid.
WRT the battery directly, because I'm so used to having to plug my Revo in no matter where I'm at (the office, the car, the train station, the airport gate, home, etc.) I still have micro USB chargers everywhere I've been intentionally stressing the Maxx's battery to get a feel for just how much better it is. Mind you the Revo, as bad as its battery life was out of the box, when coupled with bad cellular at my office, would last me 6-8 hours off a charger with low use and sync toggled off.
This is where the Maxx has truly astonished me. Same surroundings but now I'll leave GPS, sync, wifi on (even though there's no wifi at the office), and use a 30 minute email update interval, etc. Don't dismiss the 'new phone use factor' - the constant tweaking settings and unusually high phone use to learn the new UI . . . and the battery is still is over 60 percent by the end of my work day.
That remaining 60 percent is more than enough to carry me through until morning and beyond. Bottom line, I'm figuring where before I was getting 6-8 hours, under my self imposed more demanding data conditions with the Maxx I'm getting well in excess of 24.
I chose the Maxx instead of pre-ordering the SIII because of battery life and I am not at all disappointed. In fact, I'm still being pleasantly surprised. Recommended.
Forgot to add I'm at 2 days 3 hours with 30% battery life left.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies! Seems like the battery life is where it's at, and that's what I'm going for first and foremost.
How about sunlight visibility? I had a Bionic and while the screen was horrible, it did very well in the sunlight. My Rezound however... not so much.
I just switched to this phone from the evo 4g (sprint), and I believe the evo, and the rezound have the same size battery, and are advertised as the same battery life. I too needed a device that got better battery life, and let me just say... WOW The maxx gets unreal battery life... Easily 2 days, with not quite heavy use, but pretty close. 720 display... Meh... when ur looking at a 4.3" screen, does it really matter if its hd? I doubt it... And I def prefer easily triple the battery life!
Maxx is awesome!!! Unplugged from charger at 6:15 am this morning, its now 12:04 and have 90 percent. You won't regret the Maxx.

I don't trust anything with Bloomberg's name on it. Sorry.
Greetings from another public servant!
Unless you just want a new phone, just grab a car charger since you'll probably be in your unit most of the day.
Every time I'm on duty, I keep my car charger with me.
Just remember to secure your phone when your running emergency. A Eazr flying around the vehicle while clearing intersections is annoying, and dangerous.

I bought one when they released. Now we have 3. Battery is where its at. Screen visibility is pretty good if you max it out. I have it set to automatically max brightness when I put it in the car dock. Max brightness will definitely hit you're battery tho. But everything maxed out, it will still get you through am 8 hour day, streaming internet radio over Bluetooth. Cut back to 3g,, and it will go for many more hours. No telling how stable ICS will be, but GB is just locked down reliable.call clarity is the best, period. No regrets on this purchase.

I too came from a Thunderbolt, had my Razr Maxx for about a week or so now. I switched because of data connection issues and the terrible battery life I've had with the thunderbolt.
This thing is amazing... But I don't like it 3 things a bout it.
1. The battery meter in the settings page only shows battery percentage in tens intervals, (90%, 80%, 70%....)
2. It takes a lot longer to charge the thing, (I guess you can expect that from the bigger battery) so when I heavily use it on certain days I'm left with it charging for like an hour or two and the battery percent has only gone up a small amount (granted I'll have wifi tether on while charging)
3. I switched from the thunderbolt because of data connectivity always flaking out. and The Maxx seems to have this issue as well. Although I don't believe it is as bad as the Thunderbolt.... But I've only had the Maxx for less than 2 weeks.
Overall I like the phone and hope my connectivity issue will work its' self out soon.

Interesting... the Rezound has been the best phone I've owned as far as data connectivity. It's never flaked out of 4G or 3G and left me hanging. I had that problem with the Charge and Bionic. Even my DX was rock solid with 3G signal.

I appreciate it man.
The battery indicator app I think you're talking about puts up a second battery icon in the task bar, and I'm not a big fan of that. I like my screen to look clean and not redundant. speaking of that I kinda chuckle when I see screen shots of phones and the peeps have the little clock in the corner of their screen plus a fancy widget clock in the middle of their screen. not putting them down... I just think the redundancy is funny.
And I'm trying to hold off on rooting and just going to give the ICS update a try since it suppose to be on its way out by the end of June (we'll see).
but just in case can you link the 211 ICS you are talking about I looked in the dev section and only saw something for safestrap.
Thanks though.

I was the 1st of my friends and family to get the RAZR MAXX. I bought it on release day. I have 8 friends who upgraded to the RAZR MAXX, and they are all very happy with it. I bought one for my father for Father's Day, and he loves the thing.
I tried the GNex and the Rezound, both fine phones. But at the end of the day my RAZR MAXX won out. I work 12 hour days, and need to have a phone that can keep up with my busy day without having to "dumb down" the phone. After working 12 hours, I typically have >50% of battery life left. That's with moderate use. With light to moderate use, I've gone 2 full days between charges. I never have to use the "smart actions" either. Also I believe the RAZR MAXX has more function than what you get from the Rezound or GNex. Motocast is a brilliant idea. It allows you to access your computer and it's files from your phone. Including pictures, music, video, and documents. I hope this helps you.

[Q] Mint Razr Maxx + $250 = Htc Droid DNA ?

So I want to know you guys opinion I have want a DNA so a coworker is willing to part with his for a mint razr maxx and 250 cash his DNA in also mint with screen protector and case only 4 weeks old. So I jumped on the deal and told him Friday which is today I'll do it but do you guys think it's worth it I currently use a gnex as my daily driver and love it the razr maxx was my girlfriends until she decided she wanted a iPhone which she got I just want to know do you think this is a good deal?
I came from a gnex also, the DNA nukes the gnex from orbit IMO. My personal experience with battery life has been significantly better on the DNA (assuming this has to do with the chip manufacturing process more than anything).
The wife has a RAZR MAXX HD (I loathe MOTOCAPS). This phone is awesome for her, the battery life is crazy, she's probably a low to moderate user and she gets 2-3 days out of the battery easy.
Given there's no contract update on your end, yeah that'd be a good deal I'd say.
Yea that is a plus don't have to re sign contract and when my upgrade comes in 11 months I don't have to rush seeing that the DNA will still be an relevant device at that time.
I love my gnex and will miss it I had the extended battery so my battery life on my phone was great lasted about 11hr with 2-3hrs of on screen time. My coworker doesnt come to work until 12 I got 2hrs to play with my gnex before it sits in my draw for awhile

Yea that is a plus don't have to re sign contract and when my upgrade comes in 11 months I don't have to rush seeing that the DNA will still be an relevant device at that time.

I had the same. Gnex + extended battery. Battery life has doubled for me in comparison to the Gnex. I get 4-5 hours screen on time easily.
