Hello.
I was thinking of buying a tablet, but since I bought the xperia s phone, I am thinking if it is possible to use the hdmi out of the phone to a larger, portable monitor and use it as a tablet.
Do you know where i could get a lightweight monitor with capabilities of hdmi in so I can hack it into a diy "tablet".
I am considering to use the display only for output i.e no touch screen, although that would be good.
So basically you're looking for a battery powered TV with HDMI input ? something like this
Well yes,but in not that price range
I am thinking of composing one with various components from tablets, but I don't know how a tablet or laptop monitor can be connected to an hdmi adaptor and work without the use of a motherboard or a graphics card.
I don't see the point of a larger display just to connect to your phone considering that it is possible to get a 9.7" IPS screen dual core android tablet for under US$250.. Check pandawill. Look for the Amlogic -MX chipset or the rockchip RK30XX series.
Heck, they even offer ICS to boot.
I dont think you will be able to find exactly what you are looking for, I but I have an idea for you to consider. The Morotola Atrix has a LapDock accessory. This is basically an 11" screen, a usb keyboard / mouse and a huge battery all rolled into one. Someone on the forum has taken the rear apart and it is basically just a micro USB and micro HDMI cable. He plugged his Xperia in and it just worked. Phone will not charge off the battery while the HDMI is enabled, but everything else is fine.
Now, these devices retail for about £300, but recently 2 retailers in the UK have been selling them for £42 and £48, probably because the Atrix is outdated now.
I very nearly took the plunge myself, but I already have a 14" laptop and an iPad

Something to consider.
BigPhil this is exactly what I was looking for.
Since I don't want to spent much money in buying a Windows tablet now, considering the windows 8 tablet release this year, the Morotola Atrix LapDock would do the job.
Do you have any links for the £42 and £48 UK shops?
Sure, but it looks like both offers have ended.

Worth checking that site periodically
Edit: I have just checked eBay and there are loads £40-£75 on there. Good a place as any to start, perhaps pick up a case at the same time.
Umm... this one ?

How well could you fit an S into the Lapdock? Any S users have one?(Pics pls).
At that price its well worth it.

I'm looking for a Tegra-2 based 10-inch tablet running Android 2.2 and one that has XDA support. I looked at the Viewsonic G Tablet and the Malata Z-Pad. the Toshiba seems to be the mainstream equivalent so I'm wondering if I should spend the extra money and get a "name-brand" tablet like the Folio.
I'm just curious as to what sold you on the Folio versus what else is available on the market?
TIA,
Chris R.

FolioMod sold it to me. Tegra 2 as a good second bet. Too bad the viewing angles are absolutely horrid on this. Otherwise a very potent package.

I noticed that when you turn the folio upside down, the viewing angles are a lot better (especially when watching movies in your bed)
I just adjust my stand according to the angle i'm viewing it from. I use a GorillaPod stand as a temporary solution, very easy to customize.

The LCD is not so bad, it's bright and vivid enough. Of course the view angle is aweful, but you will get use to it! After all is tablet and is supposed to seat close to you in your hands- If you forget some small issues is quite a good deal. Sad thing is that Toshiba support is a joke!

OT: Yes, it's almost starts me thinking if Toshiba just failed (again) with the assembling of this device.
I constantly uses it "upside down" now since the viewing angle is better.
The price, hw spec (tegra2) and foliomod was what got me to buy it. If I didn't know about dexters (and others) work on this piece I would probably never bought it, especially after all the bad press it was getting after getting pulled from the stores.
But I just can't stop liking it.

LOL, same here.
I knew the Folio wasn't perfect when I bought it, but I also knew it had potential.
I'm quit happy but I feel for those who bought the device and never heard of XDA, stuck on a market that fits on there device entirely.

Asus has a whole host of accessories on tap for the hot Transformer tablet/netbook. The keyboard dock was just the beginning. There’s a desktop dock, HDMI-VGA adapter, a very iPad-ish looking folio case, and an adapter to plug in a USB flash drive. Asus has yet to make these official so no word on pricing or availability. They appeared on Asus’ Italian Facebook page about four hours ago. The only thing missing now are the actual Transformers. They’re sold out everywhere and backordered out to nearly irrelevance. Well, there’s always the Xoom. There are plenty of those available along with their entire range of accessories.

the only thing missing now is the tablet itself
Well the keyboard is missing too...
I was lucky enough to get a tablet, but still have no idea when the thing will actually be a "Transformer".
Interesting to see what's in store for us. Thanks for linking.
Hopefully these take off more than the viewsonic g-tablet official accessories that never came to fruition.
really nice to see these accessories for those who don't buy the keyboard. especially the dock and case. Actually bought the sleeve case myself considering god knows when i'll get the keyboard.
I like the USB adapter!!
I kind of wish they would sell extra data/charging cables
Here is also a better article with more info a pictures (Italian)

I would like another power cord. This this appears to be proprietary and if it gets lost, there's no charging the damn thing. I don't care if it's only 2 foot long, I'd like another cable.
Looks like Asus is gonna make a bundle off me. Hope there will be accessories from 3rd party soon.
Hmm!
One of each I think! Except maybe not the SD card reader.
But given that the price of the simplest one is quite high I guess theyre going to be a bit pricey!

I agree, this has been way over-looked, If I damage or loose my existing cable I'm stuffed, don't want to be in that situation.
Hopefully some 3rd party will start pumping them out on eBay or the likes soon.

So when you dock the tablet, you don't need to fiddle wit find the mini hdmi cable just to get a full desktop replacement.
I'm actually very excited to get the SD adapter (wish this was on the tablet instead of the miniSD). I'd like to do some quick photo editing right after shooting.
i wonder if the USB port will work with game controllers and other USB stuff like 3.1 will allow.
Im interested in the USB dongle.
Would this mean that we can have external storage like a HD preloaded with media?
If so, it would be perfect for road trips to load movies on a drive and have the munchkins entertained..
On that note: anything out there that allows the tablet to hang/attach to the headrest on a car seat?

Got some information,The DOCKING Station's production maybe stop few days later. If it is true,What would you choose instead? A DOCKING HUB or a HDMI cable?
Interesting question- go with the cable. Mounts are cheap< so flexibility/ versatility could actually be enhanced.
Might not not be as sexy though

I don't know. I don't see that as being to terribly smart since I'm sure it cost them about $10 to make.
I will tell you that I have received confirmation that the attempt to make an HDMI cable was successful and I have seen a video that shows it. I have a prototype cable on the way to write a review

Currently the best explanation is that Ipad2 start selling in China. It impacts the Malata Zpad series of sales programs. You know, Ipad2 lowest price in China is 3688RMB, and Zpad T8 price is 3400RMB. In China, many people have a psychological: that blind conformity. So when you see hundreds of people queuing round the clock to buy Ipad2, yes, you are maybe in China.

Anyone know if the dock for the original 7 inch tab will also fit the tab2 or if there is another solution for this .
Cheers

No not yet, waiting on a seller on ebay to let me know if the genuine kits he has will fit, or if i am able to return it if it doesnt fit., will let you know what happens.
Cheers
Stephen
Been told that no the dock for the original 7 inch tab or tab plus does not fit the tab2 , great shame as the only other option is the brodit holder, which i am not keen on. By the time i purchase that and the correct bracket for my car the cost will be over £50 which is way too much for a holder i can only use in one vehicle.
What about something like the Arkon Universal mount for you? I use mine once in a while, and it works on my Galaxy Tab and original iPad. Plus, its not tied to one device or one car.

How frequently do people dock their tablet in their car?
I suppose it would make a nice GPS, though i don't have data or teathering available for mine.
I just can't imagine what i would dock a tablet in a car for.

Using the tablet as GPS is great for long trips. Recently found an offline GPS app that is pretty solid (although it is a full download of any map, separated by state in the US, not sure worldwide): NavFree
I use Co pilot live.the whole us but its 1.4gb local storage

Hey everyone. I been seeing a bunch magnet based type c connectors popping up where you plug a small connector to your phone to which a cable magnetically attaches to for easy attaching and detaching
kind of like this one
Has anyone come across a similar thing but a dock instead of a cable? Basically having the same plug on the phone but being able to just put it on a dock that has the other magnetic end. The problem with phone docks is it's hard to plug the phone in and out of them. This might be a good solution.
If there isn't anything already available, I'm thinking I might make one. For those of you that have/had the Nexis 10, I'm the guy that made the extremely popular (by my standards) docks for that tablet. If there is enough interest, I can tap into everything I've learned from that project and make something like this.
What do you guys think?

Does this work with a Google XL in a Otterbox case? Or must it be used without the case?
Thanks in advance.
