Hi everyone, is there any dev that can make a module to overclock the ray without unlocking the bootloader? One year ago I had an Xperia x10 mini and i was able to overclock it on locked bootloader just putting a file with root manager. I know that it's possible to overclock with custom kernel but i don't want to unlock the bootloader and i think that i'm not the only one who would be very happy to do that.
Thanks
then you probably need a stock kernel, but with root access to the system. Then manually change the parameter yourself i guess.
Developer dont want to do that since they can build the custom kernel from source. IMHO

if not him, then i think no one here can.
in the end, u just have to goole a lot
an user did it for arc, but it has to be modified in some way to work with ray, can someone do that? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673476
I second that.

it is not cracked but with custom exec tool you can replace kernel with it
i already did it but it gives a ****load of bugs but working on it
yes thats correct you can use kexec tool to boot a new kernel on the fly. but its always full of unexpected bugs
owain you can look in the sony ericsson kernel for the bootflags the zimage will use. and maybe use this as your rootdevice=blablablafromzimage or make a custom image on the sd card but new kernel will need mmc support compiled into it.

as someone say it, custom kernel on the fly is now possible (that was the progress for bootloader), and that mean developers can do somethis similar to the temporal CFW for the PSP 3XXX used for 3 years!, now is permament CFW

haven't seen any thread about this. someone already tried setcpu on the arc how about the play?
i want to overclock my unit cause most of the psx games (ie castlevania) tends to be slow and the framerate drops significantly even if it's fixed at 30 fps.
so no one seems to be interested in overclocking the xplay?
i guess when its been out longer ill wont an overclock but i haven't had any slow down as yet well after getting rid of the rubbish that was on there "bloat"
i would rather a recovery menu first ha ha if were wishing here..
but we need a custom kernel first i believe before an overclock
You'll need someone to cook up a custom kernel to OC the play or someone to make a script that runs it without a custom kernel. Had this on my HTC desire hd before I rooted/unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom kernel that could OC.
The first option will need a unlocked bootloader and the latter will just need root (if possible with the play).
Setcpu should be able to underclock as it is now, but that wont help with your gaming issues.
Regards Dousan...
No need for unlcoked bootloader just need root and someone to cook up a kernel module to work with set CPU. It's a standard qualcom 8250 shouldn't be to hard. Contact the developer of setcpu on twitter or by email

Hey guys, i'm new to the play forum although ive been around for a while lol anyway just to clarify some points.
yes with the sony kernel source code we can make custom kernels, but without an unlocked bootloader we cannot flash unsigned images.. i only got my play 2day so i am unsure of what can or cannot be done, does the play have nand protection? if not and we can create and flash a custom recovery image, then an unlocked bootloader should not be nessesary. android has full R/W access by default to all the partitions while in recovery mode, so we should be able to flash things roms/kernels/ect. maybe someone should email clockworkmod and ask if they are or intend to work on a custom recovery

OK you want to flash wolfs rom, or are you already on it?
I take it you have not unlocked your bootloader yet.
Anyway the kernal is like the BIOS from a windows machine, its the main bit of the OS and with custom kernals you can change many things to mod the phone.
The main advantage is to overclock and underclock the cpu so it works faster when you want it to and slower when you dont want it.
This can improve performance and save battery.
Also you can undervolt, this means the phone uses less power from the battery saving battery power but can cause instability if the voltages are to low for your phone.
there are lots more things as well
such as uncapping the fps which makes graphics smoother..etc..
the stock add does not overclock etc but has the other tweaks....
its up to you which kernal to use but I recommend you read up, try various ones and choose which is best for you.
The most versatile ones are for unlocked bootloader....let me know if you need any help doing that

First thing then is we will keep it simple,
Download flashtool from the flashtool thread in the dev section.
Root your phone by running flashtool and following the instructions.
Then I suggest you pick wolfs FS rom and flash that.
Get used to walking before running
Any probs then send me a PM

Why dont you just post the thread under Development subforum since many would see your work there. There are not many developments going on for Xperia S, it would be really nice to see one more developer as it may encourage other developers to come and show their skills.

Would be very useful if you could add into next version becos I really like your kernel. But since there's no root, I use advanced ics kernel for the time being.

No the point of putting this in development is that a lot more people could download, test and report feedback on your work this seems like a decent kernel aswell, it'd be worth seeing what other devs have to say about it

thanks but i just want to keep it in general section..., because i'm not developing in xda, i think, it is not nice to put something in development section while you can't find something that "developed" in those area. i mean, for me, i just patch, fix some little error, nothing else, i haven't actually "develope" kernel(making new feature), i just backport some high kernel version into this kernel, and i don't think that count as "develope"

The newer kernel version has much better battery life compared to 3.0.8, I can confirm that your kernel's root did not execute properly on ICS, 6.1.A.1.58
Tested out apps that require root like titanium backup and adaway, all returned messages saying no root access.
So, I temporarily use the advanced stock ics kernel.

Hey, Guys,
So I wanted to speed up my Sola because sometimes it's laggy especially when I'm in the browser. I tested many browsers and I think it's the Ram why my Sola starts crashing or freezing sometimes. My last Custom Rom was Ultimate Sola, but now I'm on the Stock Rom. I hope you can tell me some Rom or App how I can have more Ram and be faster/smoother. There are so many Roms and I don't know which one of them is the best for me. I don't need anything other things like Walkman, or Notification Bar or Bootscreen because I installed already a few on my stock rom. Just a good Rom which helps my Sola to get smooth and without any crashings or freezings. (Just one question: Does the new Custom Rom erases all my installed things like a new bootscreen, Notification Bar etc.?)
Sorry for my bad English, hopefully you can help me anyway, :highfive:

Kernel:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel
in short....system core.
Rom - whole operating OS, with UI, system libraries and other stuff, also contains kernel but later you can flash other compatible kernel (there is compatibility requirment between ROM and Kernel).
Okay, the author of the kernel says, I need an unlocked Bootloader. I don't know which i have. I have the one you have on the Ultimate Sola Rom with the recovery Menu. Can you say me which one i got and where the difference is?
And what is the difference between Stock and CM ? Is CM Cynageon Mod?
