I have heard that rooting my dear Prime is the thing to do.. But the thing is that I have spent a whole lot of time customizing my layout, and I was just wondering if by rooting, all my settings and work will reset?

If you only root the device, you won't loose any settings or anything what so ever.
You'll just gain the Superuser app and therefore root.
If you unlock it using ASUS's unlocking tool and install a new ROM, then your settings will be reset.
Sweet, thank you for quick answer Do you, possibly, have a quick link to an easy way to root?

What update are you on?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app
Well, you can do it, but it involves downgrading to an older firmware temporarily. And I'm not too sure how this will affect all your data, it should leave it intact but I don't really know. Back up everything before-hand just in case, so that you'll only have to redo your homescreens and system settings.

Hi Knu2lav!
Fellow Norwegian I'm guessing? I've downgraded to .15 and rooted. I haven't upgraded back to .21 but an OTA update won't change your lay out.
Here's a link to How-To videos, there are also other great threads on this topic in general if you search.

I upgraded to ICS last night without saving root.
Shame on me right? I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Has someone posted instructions on doing it? I didn't see it posted here.

Prime Time worked for me.

Look in the Development section for topics that start with [Root].
I'll try prime time it seems to be the best way to root/unroot

Family , who needs them, my [email protected]%kwit nephew decided i needed my prime unlocked while he was playing on it. now do i have any way of installing cwm and a new rom if i have no access to a pc? bought the prime to replace a broken laptop. so very happy with it. does everything i need but now feel a little fooked. also what would be the best rom for someone who wants an up to date near as damn it stock rom but with just a few tweaks. rather have stability over cutting edge advancements but dont wanna be too far behind

Install ROM manager from play store to get CWM, Virtuous ROM fits the bill for nearly stock with a few tweaks.
Virtuous prime all the way! Also of you ever need to watch Google movies, flask aokp, version .21, and temp unroot with voodoo ota keeper and then you can watch! Good luck!
ok, so got rom manager but fails to flash cwm. permissions error or some such thing

Are you rooted with superuser app installed. You'll need to give ROM manager root access permission.
no not rooted and on .21 so i guess i am stuck for a while. will i be able to root without access to a pc? when .21 is rooted of course

I honestly do not know. Sorry fella.
if i am not mistaken, since you are unlocked you can install CMW manually, and install the virtuous rom manually and then install the CM9 nightly which is as minimalist as you can get

He would need to have access to a PC for this. His question was whether this could be done without said access.

Yeah, definitely needs either root or a PC to install CWM Recovery.
ok, so snookered for a while, although everything is running ok at the moment. when a root does appear is it likely to be a stand alone process or will i require pc to root it. cheers

You don't need a computer just go to the touch thread in the dev section and you can do it through terminal which doesn't need root unless you run an SU command.
Edit: you do need to run SU command sorry
just reading the "touch" thread and it seems i need to be rooted. or am i reading this wrong

Does anyone know if there is an app for hiding the nav bar, to make movie playing full screen? Seems like such a waste of space.. I had an app like this for my galaxy nexus, so shouldt be impossible?

Try getting the same app?
If not, I think gesture control may work but you need to be rooted
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
GMD GestureControl works perfect for that but like KindaUndisputed said, you're TF300 has to be rooted aka warranty voided..

no. rooting does not void warranty, unlocking bootloader does
i'm pretty sure rooting does void the warranty. I think i may have asked ASUS themselves

of course if you ask them they will say it does, but if you just root, you can still unroot, do a factory reset,... to make it look the same as the time you opened the box. so they won't know.
