Evo LTE 05/18... - HTC EVO 3D

im hearing 05/18 for the new evo LTE....will it be as big as evo 4g when it first came out??

Physically? Bigger, lol... But if you mean public attention, no. I'm sure nothing ever will be since the EVO was the first 4G phone.

It will not be as big as the OG 4G. As stated above, it's not a game changer, and the same (very similar) device is available on most other carriers. Not to mention the fact that there is NO lte right now, and sprint's 3g is slower than AOL dial-up.

Hi. Just posting some non sense to release some anger I have towards Virgin Mobile right now.
Sent From My Half Dead HTC Evo 3D, On The Now Network From Virgin Mobile?

I think the Lte will be as big as the OG, mostly because of the "updated" camera HTC is throwing out there now...but I'm waiting til Dallas actually has LTE, which probably won't be long...
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2

I doubt it will be as big as the OG Evo. We're in a different time than we were 2 years ago. Sprint was the first carrier with 4G running on an Android OS. 3G was a lot faster then. Now you have the selling point of LTE..well LTE isn't even on in the test markets while other carriers are already up and running on LTE or something similar they call 4G while Sprint's 3G is sloooooooooow. I'm usually day 1 with flagship phones but not this time. I'll get one or the newest hotness once the LTE roadmap has my city on it.

Those thank yous were a mistake. Had to hide my phone I'm at work. I'm definitely getting the LTE no matter what.
Method1911 3DLTE

I don't think it will be as big. People were hyped about the EVO 4G, and now here a LOT of us sit, with our 2nd WiMAX capable phone..without ever being able to use WiMAX. There is no way people are gonna trust Sprint to deliver them LTE in their area during the time that they keep the phone...especially when other carriers are now offering much better 4G. Competition kills it..the EVO 4G had no competition.

Quote from the article---> "Will have simultaneous voice and data capabilities; while in 3G/4G or Wi-Fi coverage areas, the EVO 3D will allow web surfing while on the phone"
According to this quote the phone CAN do simultaneous voice and data on 3G. I have a buddy that claims his kyocera echo can do this as well on 3G. I'm hoping it can althought I didnt think it was possible for CDMA to do it on 3G.
The Thunder bolt does 3g/voice at the same time
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
There may be hope for the E3D then
This is one of the reasons I'm excited about this phone. One of the articles I read a month or so ago had technical details on how it worked. It was some extension to CDMA or something along those lines. It's about time!
i wonder why a bigger deal isnt being made of this.

I would absolutely love to hear how many units of the echo have been sold. Especially considering that they wasted money and time having that stupid "Industry First" event with David Blane.
Stunts like that are the reason why my friends think Sprint is crap
I have seen a few posts that Sprint's network is technically capable, like Verizon, of simultaneous voice and data but that Sprint specifically does not (or hasn't yet) enabled this functionality.
That is pretty disappointing. Shame on you Sprint. You would think that every carrier would have the function since AT&T used to brag so heavily about how the iphone could do it. I also read that only maybe half of the new EVOs UI will make use of the 3D effect. We'll know soon enough

Yeah.....my buddy is a true phone addict like I have never seen before. He gets a new phone like once a month!! He has soo many phones on his hip(active phones) it looks like a batman utility belt...lol. And for the first time ever in his life he is sorry about getting a phone.....the kyocera phone. I think it really "hit" him when he saw how much radio shack would give him for it when he trades it in for the evo 3d. The phone is only a couple of months old......paid a couple hundred for it and the trade in value is like 75 bucks or something. A true phone addict....all his money goes to sneakers.....phones.....phone accessories....and food. And occasionally child support....lol.

3d sadness

I find it sad that HTC is giving up on 3d. Yes it was a toy, but one I paid for. They never really got behind the phone. They had that one terrible bubble 3d movie, but that was it. I thought we would at least see a 3d gallery.
Heck we are not even going to see the full blown HTC evo lte. Where is our new quad processor, that our oversees HTC brothers and sisters are getting?
There was never even any 4G in my city (one of the largest in South Florida) and I'm sure we are 2-3 years from lte ever being turned on. So thanks sprint and HTC. What a bad partnership it turned out to be for me.

Lol I am in TN and don't have 4G never have.. So I have the same feeling about LTE and that 10 dollar fee thing is kinda a joke.. Would be nice if Sprint would let us trade in our phones and get a sweet deal on a LTE one since our phones will be outta date soon .. Kinda bummer too all the folks who jumped into another 2 years and will be stuck with a older phone if no one knew that LTE was coming .. Lol.
Along with HTC ICS for the 3D will probably never see any more updates since they are coming out with that new Evo phone.. My guess is the 3D will be dropped on the **** list lol. Seen 3 new LTE phones on Sprints site for pre order.. Anyway's I will be stickin with the 3D for another year But hopefully things will still be poppin over in the threads

When LTE comes out (either frequency), don't expect the 4G on your WiMAX phones not to work. Sprint plans on keeping WiMAX around (except no more new phones) for legacy phones still running the technology. For a good bit of time at least, until a majority moves to LTE.

But how many of us actually bought the fone thinking that wimax was the future or did we just want the new next hyped fone, that had 3d and good specs. Their not gonna do a trade in thing cuz there will always be a new big fone.... Well, I am gonna nab the new evo for sure! Coming from an Evo 3d, that was a pain for devs to root, the new one will be much easier to work with.
As far as LTE, I'm not holding my breath... in Vegas I can't even find a date for launch. I'm guessing late 2013? Also, they call the $10 fee a smartphone fee now. Go figure?

Well well Sprint, you're giving "my" ICS update to an identical phone on one of your ****ty degraded networks before you give that update to me. Sprint, you're crazier than hell if you think I'm gonna shell out more cash for one of your LTE devices when I won't even be able to use LTE in the forseeable future (and be locked in for another 2 years)! David Owens, you sir are an idiot!
But all is well, because thanks to the great devs at XDA, I have my update already!
I'm right there with you, man. Sure, the EVO 4G LTE looks nice, aside from the multi-colored back. But it's biggest selling point, the LTE, won't be in my area for over a year. Makes no sense to go with a phone that gets slower network speeds when my 3D is suiting me perfectly fine with a WiMAX rich area.

both you guys are missing it completely....the phone is a HUGE upgrade over the 3D. no question about it. 10000x better Camera, and screen. The Chip in it is 10000000x better than the S3 snapdragon in the 3D too....
the only valid point against getting it is the one that if in a strong wimax covered area and you use wimax a lot currently...then and only then could you really justify not getting the LTE if $ wasn't the issue...

Samsung > HTC currently

Folks, before I get flamed for posting that and before a Moderator closes my thread, please read what I have to say.
I live in Atlanta, where LTE supposedly is everywhere. Or so I thought "supposedly" when I had the Evo because ever since I got it, I've only seen it connected once(I thought maybe it just wasn't available yet.)
Then I thought maybe it was my phone since people were reporting getting 4G speeds a lot in Atlanta, so I argued my way into getting another one from Sprint. Same thing. Never connected.
Then I got myself a Galaxy Nexus. The phone was great (til I broke it) and it was always connected to 4G.
(I even made a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846041)
When my brother came to visit me, I even tested his Evo LTE. Same thing.
Then I broke my Galaxy Nexus and bought a Galaxy S III. To my surprise, it also always connected to 4G.
I went to Sprint and compared it to an Evo LTE to see if that one would connect. I checked the settings to make sure LTE is on and it still wouldn't connect.
Even my 3G speeds on the Samsung devices are better.
Thus, I learned so far that Samsung's antenna's are a LOT better than HTC antenna.
(FYI, I do not work or am endorsed by Samsung in any means. Matter of fact, I think their phones feel like cheap plastic pieces of sh*t and I wish I could have my HTC again (in working condition.))
Maybe we need to pressure HTC into putting in better antennas in our phones.
Are you sure you were on LTE on the Samsung phones? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the EVOLTE is an LTE only phone and doesn't connect to Sprint's legacy 'faux-g' hspa network while I believe the Sammy phones do. My first Samsung phone was the intercept ( a miserable failure) and my second was the nexus s 4g(terrible reception but great phone). I've had much better luck with HTC phones when it comes to hardware.
I've only been to ATL once on a business trip and managed to connect to LTE before Sprint officially launched it so I was impressed

^Here is a decent source to prove it. I blame Sprint for being d***headed enough to insist on having an exclusive version of the One-X with features that didn't leave enough room for all the radios we need. They should have just taken the One-X as it was intended by HTC. Personally there us no 4g in my area at all so the Evo works fine picking up 3g

I see where you're coming from but yes these are both LTE.
Galaxy Nexus was Sprint's first LTE phone launched, then Evo and I believe then GS3.
And the speeds I'm getting (in good areas) are 20MB plus.
At work, I get a constant 3-5MB.
So I do not think it's T-Mobile's HSPA that I'm connecting to but actual LTE.
Even if it's true, false, or up for debate, you won't get a good discussion on it here.
I foresee posts about plastic phones, pentile screens, and TouchWiz.

Well the point is that I think Sprint has a bigger hspa footprint than LTE so you may be getting hspa and then LTE when you enter its range(thus the good 20mb spots). Even if the Samsung radio is slightly better you should still be able to connect on the Evo...

I know. I figured. I was think perhaps someone could come up with a better answer here. On Samsung section, I would only get things like "Yeah Samsung all the way!!!" Etc.

I see what you're saying.
Also, I agree with the Evo should still be connecting. Not sure why it wasn't 3 Evo's at that.
(I tried all 3 different radios. Even lost my S-OFF and my Root in order to try the latest radio because I was that desperate for answers.)
Sprint doesn't have a hspa network. There are no phones that connect to Sprint’s previous 4G network (wimax) and their current 4G (LTE) network.

Yeah that's what I thought too. Isn't T-Mobile the only one left with HSPA?
And honestly, Samsung vs. HTC aside, the problem is more on the carrier than HTC... Or both I guess. I used 2 friend's One X and GS3 next to each other in hspa+ 4G and they both were very close as far as load times. The GS3 person ended up swapping in her gs3 for the One X after seeing the software difference though Sprint just forced HTC to skimp on the radios with the extra evo features jammed in.

At&t uses a hspa+ network for 4G as well as LTE.
The connection issues are well documented and have been known to Sprint since at least April.

Well, I could be wrong then.. Whatever tech they used for their old fauxG is what I'm talking about. Is there really no phone that can use both?

Was not aware. It's not just signal issues. It's HTC signal issues, correct??

You're talking WiMax.
And GS3 is not WiMax compatible.

Just be aware, on GS3 you'll still have to pay the $10 fee.
Only way you won't is if you switch to a non 4G WiMax or 4G LTE phone.

Honestly though, both phones are getting threads like this daily so I'm having a hard time believing any signal related complaints anymore.

I'm honestly torn between HTC and Samsung, sometimes. I love how an HTC phone feels in my hands, nice and solid. Sense looks good but can sometimes be a performance hog. Samsung does some pretty unique stuff to their devices (multiscreen, s-pen, etc) and I like that. I hate how the whole damn thing is just a bar of plastic, just don't like what it feels like compared to HTC. But software wise, Tocuhwiz isn't that bad, IMO. It's much closer to AOSP than any other OEMs version of Android.
But if you want a good read on the upcoming struggles with Samsung's Exynos-based devices, read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922613&page=2
Start around post 16, some really good info from a CM dev. I like Samsung for always getting out their source early, but if it's broken and doesn't compile, then it doesn't matter. And if they can't help with any low level processor stuff because it's proprietary to them, they're not helping the community as much as they try to show that they are. Just my 2 cents.
Radio aside, how do you like the GS3 compared to the EVOLTE?

Don't really wanna answer cuz I think you're a POS but no, I don't.
I wish I had my Evo back sometimes.
Very solid phone. GS3 freezes. My keyboard can't keep up with my typing and I end up with words like "whuoi dasu unjhoos" (this matters to me. I text a LOT.. like 500 or so texts per day.)
The speaker phones sounds terrible.
It's durable as a cold butter stick.
Feels very plastic-y.
However pros:
Service,
More developers available for it on XDA,
Very light.

LOL!
I've actually come close to trading my EVO for a GS3 a couple times. No LTE here, so that's never factored in.
Basically 3 things have kept me from doing so:
1. People want way too much +$
2. Most that I've come across not in mint condition
3. I'm lazy
Oh, and also been trying to sell a car on CL, so haven't reposted my EVO for GS3 ad in awhile.
Doesn't most of the EVO's LTE connection problem stem from software? Bc last I heard the next ota is going to address it?
Personally, I won't have LTE for another few months at the earliest. So, it doesn't matter much to the majority of the US. Granted there are a lot of EVO users in the LTE startup cities. But does this mean a mass exodus from the EVO for 4g connectivity?
I can wait to see if an ota fixes the issues. I mean what are we gonna do, go to Verizon? Hahahaha.
