Google Music + Note stock audio player - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey guys, i've searched this forum as well as google for this answer, but i haven't found a solution. I finally got around to setting up my Google Music account and as soon as i connected it to my phone, i started seeing these false listings in my stock player. Basically, there are doubles of every song and album, except they don't play. So now when i kick off an album, it'll play fine until it hits one of these "ghosts" then stops and won't advance again until i prompt it.
My question is, can i restrict Google Music content to the GM app only and not have it appear in my stock player?

Seems like spam and that app in the market doesn't look very impressive. Seems under-featured as well. What exactly did that have to do with Google Music integration?

What I did.
Use [Your choice of apps that can freeze / delete system apps] and freeze / delete the stock music player. IMO Google music does everything it does and more.

That's not a bad idea. Perhaps i need to give GM another look.

I really don't think you will be disappointed, I have a large collection on my home pc, and it's nice to be able to pull from pc, to note from anywhere. plus you can upload your collection to the cloud and access it anywhere, I will get free music from the amazon music market, save to pc, then re-upload to Google, quick way to get alot of free, completely legal music, quick. Not to mention Google Music also has some decent freebies at times too.

Google music is a gem that doesn't get enough credit.

How happy are you with Google Music?

What features would you like to see added/removed, and are you happy with it compared to the stock music app, or how do you feel it stacks up against another music app.
*This is a general topic, and I'm just curious to see the community's response.*
I don't use it. It doesn't have features I need.
Namely, ability to keep the screen from sleeping, and the ability to limit where it looks for music at.
i like gmusic. I dont use it daily (I use slacker daily) but gmusic works great when I do need it. Its far more reliable than when it first came out, so they're definitely making progress.
My only complaint is when I flash a new rom, it registers my phone as a new device so it adds it to gmusic (which is great) but google limits it to 8 devices. So occasionally I need to go into gmusic website and delete my old devices, which is all the same phone. Its not really a complaint for google but i wish there was a way for it to detect that its the same device/IMEI
I personally love google music I use it daily. I have a computer for school and don't want to cramp it up with music so I can stream everything. Also I use my phone in my truck for music and it is nice to have access to all my music when I need it.
Absolutely love it. I have my entire collection stored. My main problem lies when I'm doing file management and the media scanner starts while I'm playing music. Google Music stops streaming completely and I have to manually restart it. I turned caching off, so that the song being played is solely dependent on the connection, but it still does it. I suppose it stops to look for new songs that might have been added. I'd like it to at least resume playback when scanning stops.
The other thing is with optimization I guess. In my last billing cycle, I got throttled and streaming was impossible (as expected). However, Pandora was still able to stream entire songs, for long sessions without stutter (it just took longer between songs). I'm curious if it'd be possible for them to improve performance on slow networks, so that it's on par with Pandora.

General is something related directly to the phone or an app that comes stock with the phone. GoogleMusic does not fit that description since it has to be installed by the user and not everyone uses it. This should have been in Themes and Apps. Just sayin'.
I wish it would sync with a folder on my phone with all my music, so that when it tries to play a song, it checks that folder on my phone first before downloading the song with a weird name in another random folder. That way, whenever I add a song on my computer to the Google Music Folder, it adds to my phone as well when I try to play it, keeping my music in sync.

That'd be boss. Maybe in a future update?
I love google music.
Especially after switching from iTunes and my iPhone 4. I really hated iTunes haha
i like it on my zoom and Google TV. But I wish it would sync playlist too. A good playlist takes time and it wouldn't be nice to listen to them on phone, tablet and TV. The main thing that make be go back to the Samsung music player is that while connected to my Bluetooth stereo it shows track info on the stereo but the Google music doesn't. Not a big thing, but enough to keep me using the samsung player. If those two were fixed it would be a perfect player.

I too converted, and couldn't be happier.
Absolutely love Google music. No complaints here, it works great. I'm really happy that Google came out with this app, I show everyone with an Android phone.
im using PowerAmp i think its better than gMusic
Not bad... Steaming better but still slower than other streaming apps.
My biggest complaint is music purchased can only be played in gmusic and can't be downloaded to phone or computer. Frustrating when I paid for something. if they keep prices at $4.99 album $.49 song I might get over it... Doubtful that will last.
Saw app in market that claims to make music portable though.

Just click on the song you purchased and click download. It will let you download it at 320k and no drm. Also the google music manager has an option to auto download any purchased songs to your pc automatically.

I would really like to be able to download my music that was uploaded to google music. I had everything in itunes also, and one day after it was all uploaded itunes moved everything without me knowing it and that file got deleted on accident. Of course i didn't care at the time because nothing should have been there. Thanks itunes.

My only complaint is the shuffle feature isnt very good at all, I only have a library of about 400 songs yet some songs I never hear when I use shuffle all n some songs I will hear twice in a 10 song span. I use gmusic daily n love it other than that.

I wish there was a way to manage the songs on the server from the phone. I sent all my music to the server and now run across songs (when in shuffle) that I no longer want. Would like to delete the song off the server from my phone.

[Q] Any way to play Google Drive MP3s in the background?

Hi -- I've got a bunch of MP3s in Google Drive, and I'd like to be able to play them on my Android. The problem is that when I play an MP3 on the phone, no matter what app I choose to use to play it (and I've tried a bunch!) the MP3 opens in such a way that if I then switch to another app, playback stops. In other words, the Google Drive MP3 won't play in the background.
Is there any way to make MP3s play from Google Drive in such a way that they WILL play in the background? I've found some awkward workaround to do this -- like downloading the MP3 from the Google Drive web app, or like pinning the MP3 in the Google Drive Android app and then using an Android file manager to find the file and copy it to a folder that the music player searches -- but I really wish there was a better way!!! Anyone know one?
Thanks,
Alan

For some bizarre reason, no - you can't do it. I'd strongly recommend getting Google Music. It'll hold up to 20,000 songs and you can stream or download to your phone with the Google Music player. That' just like a regular music player so it still runs in the background.
Thank you! Yeah, I use the Google Music player for my own stuff; the MP3s in Google Drive are in shared folders from organizations I work with. So, yes, I can copy those over to Google Music when I get to my PC, but I wish there was a better way to listen on my phone to something in Google Drive that I haven't yet moved over.
I wish there was a way to just make Google Drive open the full Google Music app to play these files rather than the little embedded version!

I've just installed an app called music drive which is dedicated to playing music off the Google drive, works for me, esp as I want to keep all music on the drive

Thank you for the tip! I've been trying this, but it's really not working for me: it crashes constantly and has no search function, which makes dealing with all of the tracks in my Google Drive pretty impossible.

Hi! Not sure if you still need a solution.. But I managed to link my Google Drive to a file manager called ES File Explorer and then used the built in music player to play the music off my Google Drive.

Thanks! It's actually much easier to deal with this with the newer versions of the Google Play Music app: they automatically seem to turn up tracks downloaded by Google Drive.

Google Play Music.

I've started using Google Play Music as my media player. But when I buy something and "keep it on device" I can't find where its downloaded too. I've searched all through my phone. Sometimes I use the HTC music player nut I can't access anything I've bought from the Play store until I download it to my computer and copy it to my phones music folder. It's pretty frustrating. Does anyone else have this problem? Or know another work around? Thanks in advance

GPM does keep the tracks on your device, but not is a format that can be accessed by other music players. It caches music in /data/data/com.google.android.music/file/music as mp3's with numeric filenames like 10.mp3, 11.mp3, etc. and the indexing of track Title/Album/Artist to the cached mp3's is stored in /data/data/com.google.android.music/databases/music.db
That's just plain stupid..... I paid for the music and should be able to move it to where I want on my own device. I love Google but they do some stupid things. Such as that and not letting you merge 2 separate Google accounts. Thanks a bunch though

Yeah it's stupid. You're better off buying from Amazon.

Kinda stupid, I agree. However, if you're storing music on your phone, you might as well plug in your phone, and just copy the music over to the folders you want, which will preserve file titles/tags.
I actually like Play Music .... but this closed music management is terrible. You can not choose where your music is stored and you can't open your music with another app. As it has been said above, there is the possibility to read out the music.db. So I've written me an app, that copies my MP3 files from Play Music to the sdcard and extended them with the ID3 meta data such as title, artists, albums and coverart. Now I can play the music with every app and theoretically even share.
Of course the whole thing is only one solution for rooted phones. But it makes play music a little more comfortable.
I even found a way to save music from AllAccess, but I'm not going to publish this App Version in the foreseeable future because of legal problems.
I would also like to create help thread here in XDA, but unfortunately I must have 10 posts written , before I can create am own thread in the developer forum.
Here is a Link to to the Play Store: Unfortunately I can not post links yet. Search 'Play Music Exporter' on Google Play.

[Q] Google Play Music: changing music tags from PC

Hello, my question is... I recently started using the Google Play Music free service, so I uploaded my complete music collection with the Music Manager software, everything is cool but I noticed that some of the album art looks kinda bad on my Nexus 7 (I guess is because the resolution). So my question is, if I were to change a tag of a song on my PC, will it be automatic updated to my google play account?
Thanks.

Probably would be easier to use one of the apps on the tablet to do that. There a few in the Play Store, though not familiar with any of them myself.

Unable to play google music on bubbleupnp

The app keeps barking that it could not find a registered device. How on earth do i register the google music app on my android phone. It is installed and running on my phone. So, i assume it is registered, but bubbleupnp thinks my phone is not a registered device for this app. It was the main reason i paid for this app.
Could anyone offer a tip?

I don't think so unfortunately, you can read that : https://reddit.com/r/YoutubeMusic/comments/hhg308/bubble_upnp_will_it_support_ytm/
But do it anyway, it has already started, it will save your library so you don't lose all of your song

Is there a way to stream pandora, spotify, etc from my android phone to an external renderer (my hifi bluray/sacd player) with bubbleupnp? I don't want to pay for Qobuz or tidal which bubble permits. I am currently using bubble to push music files from my NAS to this bluray/sacd player (dlna). But, i have not figured out a way to stream music from free services like pandora etc from my phone to this player. I use pandora, google play music, etc to find new music.
Any tip you offer is much appreciated.

Well idk which protocol YT music support but you can cast music to other devices like google homes, Chromecast, but that's it. Hope the way you've found will keep working
