I recently upgraded the software on my rooted evo 3d to 2.08.651.3 with the rooted package I downloaded from this site and now the phone is telling me there is a system update called "system enhancement" 29.13mb and contains an important security update. It will not install OTA, and I haven't seen any posts related to this update. Any info on it is appreciated. Thanks!
anyone?

the reason it will not install the update is because you are rooted with a custom recovery
and it's more than likely the 2.17 update, which most, if not all current ROMs, are based on...well the ones that aren't running the bootleg Virgin Mobile ICS.
You should find yourself a stock ROM based on 2.17 and you can flash directly on top of your 2.08 without losing any data.
My hh is unrooted, and i'm updating regularly without knowing what to update....hahahaha

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has found/made a rooted version of the latest (OTA_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5-2.08.651.3) OTA update for CDMA EVO 3D? I'm aware that the firmware updates and the stock rooted rom are available, but I am just looking for the (approx 29 MB) rooted update file that is flashable from CWM (i.e. rooted version of this file). I've always been able to find a version like this for all past OTAs on both the original EVO and my 3D.
I'm currently on 2.08.651.3 stock odexed rooted and was looking to update to the newest OTA without wiping my data. I am using CWM recovery and have S-OFF. I'm also aware that I can use a backup program, flash, and restore, but I am looking to avoid doing that.
Any help would be appreciated. I've been searching the development thread as well as google for a few hours now, but I apologize if this has already been posted somewhere and I overlooked it.
Thanks.

I've seen that thread. The broken link to megaupload is for the entire (300+ MB) rom that does a data wipe when it is applied. I'm looking for just the rooted update. Thanks anyway though

Hello,
If there are two updates available, for example the 3d games update and the android 4.0 (ics) update. But it's not possible to install any of them 'cause my phone is rooted. Will the phone show me the latest update (ics) or will it show the old one (3d games). So summarized do I have to install all updates to get to the latest one or can I ignore older ones and directly install the latest one?
And my second question is, is there a way to install an official update while using a rooted phone?
And finaly my last question. How do I unroot my evo 3d if I've used revolutionary tool?

What the smart majority of rooted users do is to wait for the updated files to be stripped by developers, so that your phone will not lose root or have sprint spyware installed. This also allows for the radio to be updated without running an RUU. Usually they have it ready within a few days, so unless you are REALLY impatient, or just don't want your phone rooted, then go ahead and install OTA updates.
The exception is the 1.5 hboot, which I was lucky enough to avoid. I THINK you have to unroot (those tools are located in the development stickies) to update.
Almost everything you need is under the development section. It just takes a little searching.

but u haven't really answered the first question. The problem isn't that i'm not able to update, the problem is that I don't know if there is or if there isn't an update.
btw i'm using a gsm evo 3d not a cdma version
I think you may be confused. You are talking about two different types of updates, app updates and system updates. App updates will always be shown in the market, and the Market should notify you of updates every few days. System (rom) updates are pushed out from your carrier. If you are rooted, you should NEVER take an OTA update. If you are rooted but still on the stock rom, you WILL get notified of the ota updates, just be sure NOT to take it. If you are on a custom rom, you likely wont get notified of the updates.

No i'm not confused. There is an ota update for german gsm evo 3d phones called 3d games. It includes some games, some other tools and also som bugfixes i think. It's not an update of any games in the market it's an ota rom update...
So my question was will it show the latest update or will it show the latest currently NOT INSTALLED update?

Ive read a lot of threads, comments, posts but still unclear
i have an evo on 1.13.651.1 hboot 1.2 rooted and lazypanda s-off but ive reads that to install a rom i need to update the radios and update the firmware and that i need to relock the hboot and run ruu
can someone help me thanks
You don't need to update anything, I'm s-on and running the latest venom without any issues. Being s-off gives you the advantage of flashing the firmware directly, if you want to update just look for the firmware updates in android development

You don't need to update to run the latest
nice I appreciate the help
I'm not new to installing roms just new to the EVO LTE and I don't wanna mess it up
I've installed every single rom to my OG EVO and 3D but I want to be careful on this one
It's always better to be safe and get the info ahead of time then to rush in and end up another help thread in an unusually high number of strikingly similar threads that seem to have really reared lately. I guess more and more people are upgrading to the lte and are too confident to bother with learning the phone first. The majority seem to say I had xx phone and I flashed all the time blah blah blah. More people need to look up all the possible issues and solutions before jumping in.

If you want to it's really easy. The firmware update includes all of that. Just change the name to PJ75IMG.zip, put it on your SD card, and it will automatically install when start the bootloader. Then make sure to delete it off your sd card.

Yes, update your frimware and radios to run MeanRom. You will have a better experience. Those that don't have all kinds of problems with wifi and data not connecting. HTC came our with a radio update for a reason, the original released sucked ass!!!! The latest version of the radios will make your phone run great. Big Daddy responded to you with a link for the download to update the firmware and radios. Please do this, so you won't end up with the rest of the people constantly complaining that this doesn't work or that doesn't work. The new firmware bits, PRI, and radios solved 90% of the problems that people that didn't update have.
UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!!! UPDATE!!!!
You're S-OFF so do it already.
Tanks I've been running meanrom for 4 days and no problems yet which is good but I will do so as soon as I get a chance
And I have anothe rquestion but don't want to make a new thread
I don't like swype beta I try installing the stock swype with titanium backup but it doesn't install any way/place to get it or a way to get it to work??

An OTA patch has been released for Virgin Mobile Evo V users that includes updated firmware and ICS software. I've added a post in my QADERSO guide thread with more information and a link to the update, and would appreciate feedback from any Evo V users that try it so I can decide whether or not to include it as part of that guide.

FWIW, here is my update experience:
I had TWRP recovery on stock VM ICS rom (Odexed), and S-OFF, and the update would error out with some nonsense about DefaultContainerService.apk hashes not matching up (for its respective patch).
Flashed the RUU (which got rid of TWRP), then applied the update successfully. Still S-OFF, which is good. I have a feeling that TWRP and the update dont play nice, and it doesn't matter if you are S-OFF and Rooted, so long as you have the stock HTC recovery... so that might be a helpful note to someone.

Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, the OTA updates won't install properly without the stock recovery even when they are flashed from the bootloader with S-OFF.
Did you notice any improvement in network connectivity and performance? My understanding is that the primary purpose of this update was to address radio performance with new firmware that was previously being patched with pieces of the Evo 3D firmware.
ramjet73
Well, not really much difference for me so far. I always got full bars at home, and always bearly any signal at work, and this didn't change that. I *very* rarely got the radio interface shortage error when sending a text (most often if I was in a poor signal area), and rarely had a problem where a call would not go out (it would just sit there, but a toggle of airplane or a reboot of phone would fix it). Thusfar, I have not seen these issues, but I have not used my phone much since the update.
Another thing to note in your guide, the stock VM firmware, even with the new update, does not appear to have the latest Adreno drivers. Here is a before/after of a clean, stock VM rom with literally no other apps installed besides Quadrant:
New OTA Update, OTA drivers:
Total: 2363

Patch for problem with 3g
Hi ramjet...I am a noob that has just rooted and flashed my evo v on the virgin mobile network. I see you in many threads pertaining to the evo 3d and seem very knowledgeable on the subject. First off I'd like to thank you for your help downgrading my hboot. Your provided links made it much easier when flashing 4.1.2. But when installing jellybean, 3g runs extremely slow or not at all. My speed test run at 20-50k a sec download (usually 800-1200k) and 900k-1100k upload (same as usual). 4g works find when available. Here are my specs from the bootloader
Shooter xc eng s-off rl
Hboot-1.04.2000 (pg8610000)
Radio 1.0600.0426
emmc-boot

The OTA update that was released for Virgin Mobile users includes firmware that is supposed to improve radio performance. Based on what I have seen from other VM users that have installed it, the new "Baseband version" is 1.09.00.0706, which matches the firmware level for the Sprint ICS (2.89.651.2) build so I suspect they are just pushing that firmware to VM users.
The firmware only zip can be downloaded from this post and flashed from the bootloader as PG86IMG.zip in the root of your SD card since you are S-OFF. If that doesn't resolve your issues I would suggest going through the procedure in the post I linked from the OP to install the complete OTA update, then rooting again.
Note to other users: Do not flash that version of firmware if your phone is not a Virgin Mobile Evo V 4G.

Thank you so much for the fast response. I tried the firmware upgrade..still no change in speed. I will try the complete ota update and root again.

FWIW: On 3G I am getting ~2mbit down, ~768k up, ~83ms ping as per speedtest.net (tested via tethered laptop using phone as wi-fi hotspot). So this radio seems good, but I have nothing to compare it against because I never bothered to test the speed before.

Hi!
I have a simple phone that makes me happy. Evo 4G V running stock except it's rooted so I cane use it occassionally as a hotspot.
Does accepting the recent OTA update lose root? if so, can I re-root it using the same method as the first time?
I didn't see a thread on this in particular but if there is one please drop me a link.
Thanks in advance.

Installing the OTA update requires the stock recovery and it applies patches to the stock ROM so the best way to get the update for S-ON users is to relock the bootloader, flash the 1.13.652.2 RUU.exe, download and install the OTA, then unlock again with the same token and root by flashing a custom recovery from fastboot and a superuser zip for the recovery.
If you are completely stock it might be possible to flash the stock recovery from fastboot and apply the OTA, but that would probably require relocking the bootloader anyway since firmware updates are included in the OTA.
Don't forget to backup everything (nandroid and TB recommended) before flashing the RUU.exe since it will reset all your partitions except for those on the SD card. You should be able to do an advanced restore from your nandroid in 4EXT recovery of only the data partition to get your apps and settings back after rooting again. The software patches installed by the OTA only affect the system partition.

Main Version (mainver) changed with Virgin Mobile OTA
To make a long story short, the main version (mainver) was changed in the firmware update zip file flashed as part of the Virgin Mobile (VM) OTA update so if that's installed your mainver will be changed from 1.13.652.2 to 1.14.652.0. That's not a big deal for S-OFF users but it will prevent S-ON users from flashing the original 1.13.652.2 RUU. See this post for more detail and a link to my original VM OTA post which contains a workaround to flash the RUU if you are S-ON.

I'm not sure since I don't know what was done to flash it to Virgin Mobile. If the RUU.exe was used to do that, it shouldn't hurt to do it again, then flash the OTA.

Needed update
I downgraded my phone to hboot 1.40 so I could install a new ROM. After the downgrade and original ROM reload (Negalite is the best), my calls would not go through.
I installed the update file and my radio went from 1.06 to 1.09 and I was able to make reliable calls again. Nothing else was affected, and I'm very happy Ramjet made this available.
I have a rooted Virgin Mobile Evo 3D. It wants to do a OTA update is it safe to let it do the update if I run OTA RootKeeper first?
Its still s-on, its just the stock ROM rooted.
The current about phone info is:
Android version: 4.03
HTC Sense version: 3.6
Software number: 1.13.652.2 170RD
The update it wants to do is 14.65 MB.
Thanks
NEVER take an OTA when you are rooted.

It won't install anyway. You need the stock recovery to install an OTA unless you pick it apart and install it in pieces (firmware, software), and that only works if you are S-OFF since those files won't be signed by HTC.
