Hi,
I have 3 problems related to applications for which I can't find solution.
1st is that after removing/uninstalling applications and then restarting phone at some point for whatever reason there are visible remnants of them. (screenshot attached)
I am able to uninstall them again, but after another restart they are back. So how to get rid of them for good?
2nd problem is that certain applications seems to uninstall/delete themselves upon phone reboot. It seems its related to SD card where they put themselves during install. I have tried to move majority of apps back to phone, but seems only some of them are affected by this. There are apps which are installed/moved to SD and they work fine even after restart, so don't know. Maybe some of them are not working after moving to SD? Although for some its strange because they install itself to SD without me moving them.
3rd problem appeared today. Yesterday I have updated to ICS via Kies and installed 5 updates from Market. Today after restart the same apps were back to previous versions and Market offered me the same updates for the same apps. Whats the problem with this?
Thx for your help
Reads as possible corruption of SD card .
Check Lost File folders .

And how do I do it? What folders? LOST.DIR?
Or to put to computer and run chkdsk to check lost files?
wen u some times move apps to sd an wen a aoto update takes place so wen rebooted then either appear as shown in screen shot, cause get deleted an flashing roms then restoring from titanium also gives some app prblm....the best way is format ur ext card on pc .....and if u want to clean all crap which u don want(lost.dir)is a folder were chunks r stored...but coming to point if u want to clean all mess go in recovery an formatt sd card, format system, emmc all ,,an reboot an ur stuck on sammy logo means u hav nothing on phone ,so go in download mode an flash stock via odin.....imp backup ur efs b4 any thing

I THINK what he's suggesting is that when you have apps installed to your sd card, then an update occurs, then if there are differences in how partitioning works between your old OS version and your new OS version, you may lose some apps.

Then there's a bunch of unintelligible gibberish... Seems to be suggesting that restoring apps using Titanium backup can cause issues, and suggests formatting the external SD card on your PC instead of in your phone.

Back up your /efs folder before you do anything. (which I agree with wholeheartedly)
I think I translated that correctly.
Thanks for your translation mate although I am not sure if he said anything what can help me except deleting and formatting all which is really something what I would like to avoid for now.
LOST.DIR is empty on both internal and external SD card.
Also the problem with remnants was happening before I upgraded to ICS, do I don't think its related to partitioning at all.

Last time I had this issue, it was on my Moto Milestone where I had app2sd running, and my SD card was becoming corrupted. I had to format my SD card and re-install the affected apps.
Hmm, I am not using any external app like app2sd, just the option which is offering Android itself. You were formatting internal or external one?

I was describing my condition on one of my old phones. (An old Motorola Milestone, which did not have an internal SD) Not an I9100.
If you are using the default app2sd in Android, then you'll want to format internal. But back up all your files (music, pictures, whatever else) before you do, obviously.
I see. Yeah I was planning to do backup of course, but if I copy back all after format won't be back also the problem?
Lost dir from me was to check for corruption as thats where corrupt sd card files go.
Copy backup to PC just in case .

It shouldn't matter...
But my advice is to go through your installed apps and make a list of all apps that are marked as installed to your SD. Then uninstall all of the ones that are. Then back up your internal SD, and do your format of internal SD.
DO NOT copy back the .android_secure folder after you format. This is the folder that Android uses for it's built-in app2sd. (so it will get created again automatically later)
That means you'll have to re-install all of the apps you made a list of above, but it SHOULD help alleviate your problem.

The condition he describes is that the app is no longer being registered as installed. So I don't think he'll be able to do this.
Thanks mate, I am now making backup of internal SD card before formatting although there is no .android_secure folder. There is one on external SD card, but its empty. Anyway will try the format after all the data are copied.
So backup done, formatted card, copied all back, restarted phone and the remnants are still there

Hmm.. you may not have a choice but to do a factory reset/full wipe to get rid of 'em. Sorry dude.
Thats not what I wanted to hear. Should I go for factory reset available directly from Android or should I boot to recovery and go with factory reset/wipe data or wipe cache?

Either one should be fine.
FYI, you can back up most stuff you have and restore using various methods, so you can get back to your current state... it will just take a bit of effort.
And which would you recommend? I have Titanium Backup Pro to use or is there easier way?

I dont really need those pictures. i'm just want to know why its happenned, so in the future i can prevent any loss.
I tought as i installed new rom its started take the pictures from img000, but no its img184 now, so it cant overwrite the old ones.
I had this problem once a few months back. I completely wiped and repartitioned the SD card on the computer and fixed it up for me.
okay i might do it. Is there any way to save installed apps? I was thinking about a factory restet with data and everything wipe. I have installed 3 roms without data wipe (all aga roms) because i didn't want to loose every app and saves
Hey, I've lost all photos from my S3, when i was installing the JellyBean leak. There isn't any way to mount internal SD card? because all the apps that i downloaded to mount it, don't work. When I try to use a program to recover the photos (like recuva), don't recognize any disk. There is anything I can do? Like resign to recover anything ?
Try via Android Commander and locate your DCIM folder .
But you may have wiped it .
Photos will be in your Nandroid backup .

Hi!
I am facing the same problem here, but i have a nandroid backup...!
Can i retrieve photos from that??
No, Nandroid only backps the system, not the storage locations.
Sorry to hear you lost your data, but you most probably have no chance of getting them back.
I'd recommend using a sync tool to keep the important data (Call logs, SMS's, photos, ...) all stored on the cloud (usually Google servers) so even in worst-case scenarios you still have at least access to those.

Nandroid does not backup internal sdcard.. So most probably your photos are lost.. In future use drop box to sync your photos automatically.. You can never be too sure..
Also, use cwm rather than odin to flash firmwares..

Guys need a bit of help here.
I was on ICS wanam rom initially and I did 2 things:
1. Changed my csc
2. Did a wipe etc and updated to JB wanam rom
Now the internal sdcard folder becomes sdcard0, and more frustratingly, the data is gone, ie the pictures, music etc that I saved on internal sd card. App settings etc that are backed up via titanium are intact, but the pictures, music, downloaded files etc are missing.
The strange thing is, my wallpaper is still the same, even though I can't find the source file on my internal sd!
My gut feel is that, the data isn't actually deleted, but stored in some obscure location that I can't access.
Can someone help please? Thanks

If you were using ICS before and than you flashed it to JB than it will WIPE EVERYTHING in the phone except External Sd Card. you can try to recover them by using some of software in the market available to recover deleted files.

Every single place that I've seen mentions of wipes or CSC changes warns of data deletion. I don't think you're looking hard enough.

Yea I read those, but I thought it meant wiping the configs, system file, etc, and not stuff on the internal SD card. Even when you go to Settings, Factory Reset, it says 'pictures, media files' etc are excluded from the wiping.
So even if I load up an old Nandroid, the files aren't recoverable?
confirmed that restoring old Nandroid backup doesn't recover the pictures/media/etc.
Change CSC wipe is deadliest type of wipe available!!!!
Yeah, unfortunately all is lost. There is a moral in this - always have an off phone backup!
Out of curiosity, I believe that once you try to change CSC there's no warning. Is that true?

Yup. I always back up with Nandroid and Titanium and SMS backup and restore. But when the internal SD data is wiped, it's useless because some of the backups are stored in the internal SD which got wiped!
And yes, no warning prior to or after the CSC change. So be very careful!
I lost my internal sd data once due to that csc thing as well. Fortunately I made a full backup a week earlier. Yet it's still very very frustrating.

This is impossible. The Factory reset only deletes your installed Apps and data BUT no personal data that is stored on the internal sd card. Did you flash a ROM after this? If yes, was it CyanogenMod 10.1 or AOKP?

I used the Samsung Galaxy S3 ToolKit v7 to download and flash stock ROM since I wanted to go back for a while to test battery life, after it had flashed the stock ROM I checked and all the files was still there but TouchWiz and something else kept crashing so I went to 'Settings -> Back up and reset -> Factory data reset'. After this all files on internal sd are gone. I thought that it didn't delete them or I would have made a backup.
All I'm really bothered about is my Titanium backup files

This is why you use external SD for those backups and ALWAYS make a backup.
I have Googled and searched this forum for an answer but can't seam to track a solution down....

Store/install the Games/apps files on the larger part of the memory (IE. SD Card) and have them run from that location.
I know the system apps can't be moved but almost any game or app can be.
I was once able to move them freely but I screwed up my phone and ended up whipping it and starting from scratch. :crying:

Dude... The whole purpose of people moving apps from internal phone storage to an SD Card is to free up space on the internal storage... by moving them to an EXTERNAL SD card (ie removable)
Since these phones don't have an external SD, all you're doing is moving your apps from internal storage to (drum roll please...) Internal Storage!!!
So basically... you're moving an app from the "Program Folders" area to... well... anywhere BUT that folder, but keeping it on the same hard drive. Make sense?

Apparently I am not getting my point across this is the HTC One X+ section right...
There are two sections on the solid state "hard drive" one is referred to as the SD Card which is allocated 50+ gigs the other section is system storage which is only allocated 2+/- Gigs.
Now I want games/apps to install to the SD card section not the system section which it dose by default.
I know this can be done as I mentioned previously I had it configured to do this but I can't remember how nor can I find anything (apps/tutorials) that will get me back to said configuration.
I hope this is a bit clearer.

No mate it doesn't. Unless your rooted you don't even have write access to /system/.
All apps and data will go on the /data/ partition. The "mock" SD card is located in /data/media/ or /data/media/0 which is just a folder on the main /data/ partition.

Try going to /data/apps/ and checking if you will find white files that end with .odex
Apps that have that will most probably be the ones affected by that error. The .odex file is created if you have "lucky patcher" installed . If you do not have this app or haven't found any odex files then ignore what I just said.

the first time I changed to the ViperXL+ OS I had the same issue unfortunately I can't remember how I managed to fix it I thought I used Rom Toolbox to set where apps/games installed by default but it says I have to be updated to 2.2+ and I'm only on 2.0.0
