Back to the future - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to go back to 1.6 stock on our vibrants.

Vibrant stock out of the box was 2.1.
I think there is a thread in the general section that details how to use Odin to flash it back to stock.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium

so there is no way to go back to the o.g. 1.6

Like HeavyA said, the stock for the vibrant was 2.1 (Eclair) not 1.6 (Donut)
You can certainly flash back to stock, but that will be the original 2.1.
The A10, the Zio, the Xperia X8 ran 1.6, but even in 2010 most phones were already updated to 2.1, or even 2.2 GB.
Why are you trying to flash donut to the vibrant? Let's be clear though, you can't flash donut to the vibrant (as far as I am aware of), it was never designed to run on the Vibrant. And no developers would be interested in porting an archaic rom...that's like buying a brand new iMac only to run System 0.8.5 (Mac's original OS). It just doesn't make sense.

...And again, like both Xenoism and HeavyA said, Android v2.1 (Eclair) was the out of the box stock for the Vibrant. So if there was something you liked about Android v1.6 (Doughnut), you'll have to find another device that came with it or bribe a developer... However if you want to revert back to Eclair, then that's no problem! Just follow this guide found here.

I wanna see 1.6 lol, i never seen it... any devs have too much time on your hands?

Mee too dude

Short and simple vibrant never has 1.6 and never will. It's old we don't have a kernel for it and it would not make full use out of our devices

REQ: Stock Android on Dell Streak

to all Devs out there... especially ones that are familiar with the Nexus One.
I know that the Android 2.1 on our Streak now is pretty close to a stock Android version, but still it doesn't feel quite the same. Is it just me or does anyone else think that the stock Android version would look and feel awesome on our 5"er?
Since most of the changes within 2.1 is pretty close to a 2.1 version of the Nexus One, I'm assuming we can't be too far from making it a fully 'stocked out' Android version.
I've seen it done on the Samsung Galaxy S, and we know that Touchwiz was the UI built in to that. I wasn't that interested in the Galaxy S before but now that I've seen that vid, I just might pick it up once it's fully ironed out. (as a back up to the Streak of course )
Thoughts?
to be honest i would love my streak to run stock rather than dells crappy skin. i wanna use my phone in portrait without a 3rd party app

from what I know, Paul's MCR builds are based on vendor ROMs rather than vanilla AOSP so doubt he'll be removing the Dell overlay (but will be optimised)

I have been interested in running the stock Android UI for some time. Very much so looking forward to it.
Stock
I'd LOVE to see stock on a device like this. I don't even care if it's Froyo.

Yeah there was no mention on Paul's site anywhere of this... but, there's never any harm in asking him.

Froyo

Do we have to wait for samsung to actually release the froyo update for this device, or can it be attained earlier?
Someone might be able to port over froyo but you won't get a good Rom until froyo officially comes

I wouldn't count on that. We had completely stable Froyo roms for the Incredible a good 2 months before the official update came out.
I have high hopes that Cyanogen will get CM6 running on the Fascinate. I'm hoping that development won't be too different from the other Galaxy S variants. Time will tell.

Why would you say that? Once the devs have the source code, they should be able to cook up some ROMs that are just as good, or better, then what Samsung releases.

Especially considering that Samsung has made all the goodies open-source. I would suspect it will be a lot easier for someone to cook up a good ROM for this phone than it was for the original Droid.
Verizon made a statement that we would get the Google search widget back with froyo. I guess its the froyo widget obviously. But at least that's a good sign that vzw acknowledges that we will get froyo

But when we get Froyo, will we also get the option to use Google as the default? It's killing me to hit the search button and get binged.

There are debinged browsers you can flash or set Google as your home page. There's some Roms that are bingless also.

[Q] Miui ROM on samsung vibrant

I was wondering if there are any developers who are willing to try to get the miui ROM on the N1 and Evo over onto the vibrant. I would love to have this on my phone, and I'm sure there are other people who would like this to be possible too.
First, wrong section, second this would be nice....

Yes, I have seen your theme and I have to say. Good work, however like you said it is a theme but having the entire ROM would be even better but I'm not trying to smash your work or anything just some insightful thinking that's all
Heck yeah man! i would love a MIUI rom for the vibrant!! i wish one is ported to it soon =/
Only problem is that MIUI is a froyo based ROM, and froyo isn't fully functioning on the vibrant yet. It will be much easier to port it over once Samsung releases the official froyo update and we can grab the drivers. Once that happens, though, I would LOVE to see MIUI on the vibrant! I got a chance to play with it on my buddy's droid and it's awesome
What about htc sense?i know ya miss it sometimes lol I had a g1 I miss all the different roms it had smh

yes but correct me if i am wrong eugenes froyo rom through odin is working the only thing that is still wrong with it is that the home and back buttons are switched but like i said i think i am wrong but even if i am wrong cant a dev re-map the buttons when creating/ building MIUI? also was the EVO on 2.2 when they were able to get MIUI? i just havent had time to go check all of the threads.

Yes, anything that had a port of miui has froyo.. The galaxy s line of phones can't get anything but the stock roms to work.. eugene has just removed most of the touchwiz.. After we get a full built from source aosp rom running you can expect some custom ui ports but for the moment all we have is touchwiz or most touchwiz removed..

oh ok then. now if only tmobile would release Froyo. curses.
Now just because we get froyo and the source code doesn't mean it will happen.. The only real rom developer we have is eugene.. so if he doesn't like miui then its probably not going to happen...

Im going to try to build from aosp, but this thing seems really tempermental,i thought i bricked it a few times just trying to flash bionix fusion. I was stuck at just a black screen, nothing worked, and my laptop kept saying the usv device has malfunctioned. I ended up plugging it intoace my desktop and booted into download mode blind, after 4 tries it went to download mode, and it flashed back to stock successfully with odin, then i flashed the rom the right way.
basically,if you have a dell d600 laptop, save yourself the frustration of getting Odin to work and use a different computer. I tried on mine and my brother's,both did the same thing.

Strange, I have soft bricked only two times and both times odin worked for me but I have been using bionix since it came out and after trying multiple ROMs I stick with bionix but I just want to play around with miui
Well froyo is supposed to come in November.
So I'm hoping that sometime in December we will get froyo ROMs emerging (CM6 will probably be one of the first).
I just hope some dedicated people at least try to get MIUI on the Vibrant/Galaxy S/EPIC/Captivate/Fascinate. Because if they get one of the Galaxy S phones running, then it will greatly help, the rest of the series.

Gingerbread on X10. Officially.

Hey guys I know everyone's excited about this but there's one bad side to it. This thing may be unrootable but I'm sure the geniuses here will crack it. But unfortunately the bootloader will now be even harder to crack. And most countries won't get the update so you'll have to get the global update from here which isn't a problem for me. But if we root Xperia arc we can most likely root our new x10. We need a preview so we can work on this
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Simple answer: Gingerbread 2.3.3 on X10 is built upon the same thing as Arc... if u can root Arc, u can root X10... simple.... Richard on the SEBlog already made it very clear that they are building 2.3.3 for X10 based on what they have for Arc.... I think by then, bootloader cracking should be pretty much out of the picture cos everyone will update to gingerbread.... and then most of their mobile contracts would be up in prob a few more months and they would upgrade to a 2.4 device....
But we cannot lose root either way. I want this but they have to lift the frames per second cap limit and enable 16 million colors then root or not I'm going to it because that's all what kernels will do anyways so its awesome
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
I've tried rooting a preview version of the Arc using SuperOneClick but it failed so I hope the devs can get root on 2.3.x.
Video coming soon.

I believe that the current rooting methods used on the X10 do not work on Android 2.2.1 or newer firmware. In Android Source code, Google has patch the security hole that allowed for these to work.

dont worry guys.... all that we need are the kernel sources... leave the rest to Bin4ry, J and the team...
Don't worry we'll get this down. The only gingerbread rooted so far is nexus s. We need to know how they did it. Otherwise we can always use a custom rom from here

Lol yep and everyone needs to update to generic firmware. If you get generic you'll be the first to have gingerbread when it releases. That is how I got the official Sony Ericsson dual touch update.

X10 for nexus one ?

My friend want to exchange his nexus one for my x10 would.you guys do it i want to do a safe trade so i was wondering is it any.good? How is the forum support here in xda? And i wanna trade it because im bored of my x10
Thanks in advance people .

Well, to me its kind of a latteral move as they are very similar hardware wise and both have dt issues. I'm sure the nexus one is or has been well supported but to me the x10 scene is really getting interesting with the kernals coming up. Nexus one will already have everything final. Boring to me.

As the Nexusone is basically a dev phone and has pretty much already had everything done to it, I would say keep your x10.
However if you have played your x10 out and want to play with something different, then why not?
I personally wont get rid of my x10 for sometime. New kernels coming out to modify it even more....
X10 is my friend
Thanks mates i have maked up my mind and im keeping my x10 for gingerbread 2.3.3 release by se and custom kernels is coming out soon
