So I am curious...has anyone tries rooting with the manual method that Moon outlined in his sticky that is in the general section? I have not only because of my work schedule and I just updated to Fedora 17 and having some lib issues, in regards to adb...so has anyone tried and what were the results if they did try? I understand that it may not be feasible or something worth trying but had to ask just out of pure curiosity

Just purchased my 1st Android phone and am getting used to everything. Without sounding like a broken record and having spent some time on the forum, can I please be directed to or have answered how to root an Atrix 4.1.83 v2.2.2 without flashing back?
Does it make sense to wait for Gingerbread to come out or does it make sense to unlock the boot now?
Any input greatly appreciated.

Look for Gingerbreak in dev section to root.
I would unlock and flash Kenneth Penn's 4.5.91. The Moto release in SOAK will stop you flashing back if you want to.

If you wait and get an update from Motorola and you have your artix rooted on 2.2. How should one proceed? Does one just update and then re-root after that?
Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if I HAD to flash back in order to gain root. As much as I don't like the motoblur bloat, a few items are handy. Any ROMs to look at?

When I was running 1.83, I used a method from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
Check out the third post in that thread. You'll need ADB to get it done, but if you don't have ADB installed you may as well do that.
ROM-wise, I'm using CherryBlur, which is a modified version of the latest 2.3.4 ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160649
And I think it's great. The original HKTW 2.3.4 beta leak had a lot of bugs, many of which have been corrected by community updates and hacks, but Kenneth's 2.3.4 seems to be pretty clean so far. As to whether it's worth waiting for the official release, well... I think it's worth modding your phone just for kicks, and to gain a better understanding of how it works.
Thanks Obscene! Now all I have to do is find the time. In theory; to get bothyour methods done - how long should I expect barring no issues?

Ok guys so I've been off the forum for a while since im a truck driver and haven't had time to play around with things. So my question is simple I did a clean restore and updated to the new OTA update. Is there a root mod yet for this because I really want to get my webtop hack back and install backtrack 5 on here.
I've look through the dev posts but since all the new break through our wonderful devs have performed im kinda lost on what's what and for what mods and firmware.
I look forward to your response and thank you

Seen a few things else where but not much about the X2. Does this new GingerMaster that the news is calling malware actually root 2.3.3? And if so does it work on the Droid X2. I was reading over the gingerbreak blog and he claims 2.3.3 is breakable with this but I thought the only way to root the X2 with 2.3.3 is to sbf to 2.2 and then use the P3 pre-root update. Anyone have any insight on this?

Here is a news story I came across today and what prompted the questions.
If im reading the article correctly it isn't a program to root the phone, its a program coded onto a fake app that roots your phone without you knowing it, then allows 3rd party to access root functions on your device, all without you knowing. That said, if it does root 2.3.3 successfully in the background, someone should be able to rewrite the malware into a user initiated root method

I was thinking there would have to be a way if this thing can break 2.3.3 to jsut take out the part that grants root. It sounds like they are using this and then loading other apps behind not that it is part of the break. They mention GingerBreak which I know currently doesn't work on the X2 but perhaps this is a slightly modified version that if pulled out at least the exploit could be repackaged and tested by a credible dev.
Now that we are on the same page Tim I wish I knew where to get this I would go looking for it and tear it apart myself. Sorry about basically repeating what ou said i was going to add the new reply but had to get up from my desk and didn't check the thread when i came back
Cool find, going to find it and rip it apart to see what's up. Lot of people will benefit from it. I doubt I am the only one looking at it. Bet we will see a root soon, even if it doesn't matter much on this device. I know the Incredible 2 would love this.

Top google result for GingerMaster is this research article but they mention it was found in April. I think information week was just a few months behind or someone took ginger break and finally incorporated it into malware. I will also bee looking over as much as i can on this.
I have the Exploid Code from 7/15 appears to be the latest. The more i read from the researcher it appears this is all it carries perhaps the article is wrong in mentioning 2.3.3. Everything I am finding appears to point back that this is not a working root for 2.3.3 but rather anything less than the 2.3.3

And you just paid your check with that 2 cents because I agree. Unfortunate, but I agree. Clearly, obviously, if something WERE to exist to this extent someone on XDA would have hyped it and released it already.
No need for this anymore the D3 exploit works. Love my X2 even more now.

Hi,
I have a Verizon Droid Razr Maxx which is brand new and at 100% stock. I'll be living in the UK for the next 2 months and I leave this week so I need to upgrade to ICS for the roaming capabilities ASAP.
I've seen a bunch of guides on how to do this without using OTA but many conflict and the threads are full of users who complain about bricking. My last phone was a an HTC Droid Incredible which I rooted. I'm willing to root this, but time is limited and I want to avoid fighting with this and potential errors. Can someone give me a basic step by step (or links).
Thanks.
This is what i successfully used. Didn't have any soft brick issues.

I would also read through the "Update File" post under the general section. Has useful info.

This falls down to a question. For future reference General is NOT for questions. Moving to Q&A.
