android.process.media (media indexer) not detecting changes - HTC EVO 3D

Anyone know how android.process.media (media indexer) on ICS normally detects changes to the sdcard and reindexes media?
I know that unmounting/remounting sdcard, or rebooting, forces a rescan, but otherwise it seems that it never detects additions/deletions (I have waited hours).
For example I can delete an image from /sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA, but the file remains in the gallery forever until I unmount/remount the sdcard. Same problem for adding an image to the folder...it wont show up in gallery until I remount sdcard or reboot.

when u do a change not through your device. for example, delete/push a file w/ adb or connecting to ure pc as usb mass storage... u're device wont recognize it.
that's the exact reason i put an almost transparent "reload media" switch pro widget on my home screen... so i can just hit it to reload the media real quick

[Q] Problem with uploading music to SD card

So whenever i upload songs to my microSD card and then unplug phone from PC, the new-just uploaded songs become unusable. the default phone player just says "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file" or just skips to next song. the same on doubleTwist player - just skips to the next song.
and in the list the song shows up just as unknown artist (as in picture) just with the file name written (the xx - crystalised), although all the ID3 tags are ok.
turboimagehost .com/p/6311626/snap20110308_010941.png.html (can't post a normal link since i'm still a newbie here)
also after plugging the phone back to PC and trying to play one of the just-uploaded songs from SD card, they seem to be corrupted, no player on pc can play them
WHAT MAY BE THE PROBLEM AND WHAT CAN I DO?
i have to mention that this started recently and songs uploaded before play just fine. also phone is rooted with zt4root, everything else is as stock as LG P500 comes.
Either ur sd card is wrecked or ur pc is infected with usb viruses and trojans...
scanned PC and microSD card - no viruses.
weird thing is that if i download songs via apps like "MP3 Downloader" then the songs play and are saved on SD card corectly. really ****ing confused..
What size files after you copy?
Try to check for bad sectors SD
maybe your audio libraries are screwed ..u cud try extracting files from a ROM's zip file and then replacing them on your phone using custom recovery and adb..

Checked the card with built in Win7 checker, no bad sectors.

Could just restoring the firmware or dropping phone to factory setting help, cuz i'm hardcore newbie and i'm also really unfamiliar with flashing/ROM's/custom recovery. (and to clarify - haven't done anything to phone, except rooting)
My suggestion:
- go to Settings - SD card & phone storage - enable "Mass storage only".
- connect the phone to a different computer, one that has never seen your phone before. The mass storage mode should allow you to access the memory card, no LG drivers required.
- copy some files you want to test, check if they're OK. Post results.
Always use the "Safely Remove Hardware" procedure to unmount the SD card from the PC.

[Q] Strange SD card problem

Hi
I had some really strange issues with my SD card files and I was wondering if anyone could help.
Let's start with the start .
I'm running a GB ROM (OneDroid GB06) with Franco's kernel from 02 oct. Using a 16Gb class 6 SD card from A-Data. Partitions made with CWR version 3.1 (I think).
Anyway the problem is like this. I am using my phone as a voice recorder with AndRecorder Free from the Market. Usually record 10-15 minutes (up to 15MB) interviews and sometimes I record like 10 of them without downloading them to the PC. The problem I had was that after I recorded a few of them, when I connect the phone to PC with data cable, I can't see the recorded files in Explorer.
At first I had an issue when connecting the phone in USB storage mode it told me that I had some errors that had to be fixed. I could not see the files I needed in explorer and after dissconnecting from PC the files were gone from OI File Manager as well. I was however able to find them in the LOST.DIR.
I took the card out, put it in a card reader, backed up my files and did a full format and put all my files back. No more "need to fix" messages when connecting to PC, however I still cannot see the files that I record in Windows Explorer while connected in USB storage mode. In Oi File Manager I can see them, play them and even send to Dropbox via WiFi. Or if I take the card out and put it in a reader I am able to see them in Explorer as well.
Anyone has any idea about this? Kernel or ROM issue?
I used the same program (AndRecorder) before on 2.2 and I'm using it on another O1 running official 2.2.2 and never had a problem like this.

Few times the same problem happens to me I am using a sandisk 4gb SDHC card and i clicked some photos from the camera and those photos were visible in the gallery but when i connected to usb storage on computer, photos were not visible... I'm also using FRANCO.KERNEL for gingerbread 2oct but with stock ROM..
First - install Root Toolbox or Dual SD mount widget and try double-mounting the card when connected. If it fails try copying the parent folder to PC or try to list via typing (Should be on the sdcard directory you store the files) dir /a:h or dir /a:s in cmd (Should be your last hope, though).
Otherwise, try setting up a FTP Server and make sure the card is using a FAT32 file system.
Ianis, thanks for the solution, but I just want a way to make it work as it should, not to try and go back in DOS mode just to copy some freaking files.
Did you try:

Try fix permissions in CWM. If that is not helping, use Root Explorer an check file or folder permissions. Also try to swich between R/O and R/W modes.

Next time keep your mouth shut. At least this way the other people won't be aware of the disaster that lies within.

[Q] Deleting a file with "write protection"...

I have this folder (with files from a download) that I have tried to delete from the phone storage (not the external SD Card).
No matter the method attempted, I keep getting:
"Cannot delete folder: The storage is write-protected.
Remove the write-protection and try again".
I've tried many ways on the phone itself (through Root Explorer...and I did make sure the RW is active), debugging has been tried on as well as off, etc...
Through the PC (Win7 SP1) as well (debugging on and off for this too). All drivers work for the phone, and no other problems. Can easily transfer files from the computer to the device.
I'm stock rooted with overclock kernel (but don't keep it overclocked).
I don't want/need this folder/files. Its not a system folder/file. I have moved it into my 'download' folder just to keep an eye on it. If I try to 'move it' to the external card, all it does is 'copy'.
Any and all helpful information would be greatly appreciated, as this is driving me nuts trying to delete this thing.

When I come across a suck folder like that I open the folder and delete each file one-by-one. Then delete the empty folder.
For persistent files I've had to change the file extention to delete it.
I copied all my files to PC and had to format my card. Then I re copied all the files to the card.
Nothing I did could save it.
Edit I read incorrectly. Its your internal card.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
I have the same issue...the internal sd card is giving me a write protection error.
Any way to fix it without doing a full wipe?
Thank you!
Why not backup ur important sd card commponents to ur PC , then goto custom recovery do internal/external sd card full wipe and then restart ur phone ! it worked for me. the restore all ur backup files.

Acutally I just solved it with really easy way on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I was studying formus for 2 hours and not one answer or advice helped So I did this:
1. turned off USB debugging in developers menu
2. after connecting my phone to pc I switched the phone to behave as media device (MTP) and not as camera (PTP) (in notification bar there will be "connected as a media device/as a camera" option after connection to PC - click on it and swtich it)
3. now everything works like a charm and I can delete and write to the SD card without a problem

It does not work your idea
open the phone then remove battery, (without switching off the phone) after you removed battery remove sd card also, and wait for 10seconds and put in sd card again, put battery too and switch on your phone, after this u can delete everything u couldn't. Hope it works for you too.
When I switch to media device than when I click on "phone" or "card" when I click, it says, device has stopped working or been disconnected.
Help!
1. Flash A Recovery ( I recommend TWRP).
2. Then Go to Advance >> File Manager.
3. Browse the File/ Folder you wanna delete.
4. Open the folder and go to option's (the blue coloured box with a tickmark).
5. Select Delete, and Swipe To Confirm.
(This procedure is for TWRP. Procedure may be different, depending on your recovery)

[Q] Storage contents not being shown on computer (device without CID)

Hi guys
Since I lost the CID of my RAZR XT910, I'v been using Boot Menu Manager. There's one annoying problem has been always bugging me.
The contents of both internal and external storage are not being correctly shown on computer (Windows 7), no matter the device is connected as MTP or mass storage.
For example, I create a folder with file manager on the device and then connect phone to computer, this folder may not be displayed. It seems that the contents are cached on the computer and never get refreshed. This happens most of the time.
Everytime I transfer files I have to use a card reader, and this is very inconvenient.
Does anyone know if this is caused by Boot Menu Manager or there's something wrong with my computer system?
Thanks for any infomation in advance.

i keep losing custom sounds after phone restarts (sd card related?)

nokia 6 with android 9
i have a problem after restarting the device where i assume the SD card has not yet mounted, and this causes the custom sound files (which are stored on the SD card) to be "not found" and replaced with default nokia sounds or no sound at all (it just points to a file that it thinks doesn't exist)
i figure if i can transfer these custom sounds over to the internal memory, i might be able to avoid this problem. however, i've run into a problem with that too. when i connect the device to the computer (corded or bluetooth) i can see the internal storage directory (and the subfolders ringtones/alarms/notifications) but when i place the sound files in these directories, they do not appear within the android menu after hitting "+" to add a custom sound/ringtone. none of the files will load, instead i just see a blank menu with no files in it. (but the files do continue to appear when exploring the directory from the computer)
so how does this work? lets say i wanted to put custom sounds on my android 9 without an sd card. how would i make that happen for this version of android?
thanks
