Has anyone ever used these before for their phones?
I'm going on vacation in a couple months, and I'd really like to use my g-note to take pictures underwater. This looks like its pretty cool, just wondering if anyone has used one on their notes
This look like an awesome idea, however, I wouldn't want to bring my phone down into the water with it though. You have to make sure there aren't any small holes which are probably really easy to get and you also have to make sure that there aren't any gaps between the sealing tape.
It's basically a ziplock.
I wouldn't even trust it.. its too cheap.
Wouldn't recommend it, I just broke my screen and found out that the insurance replacement is $200! That seems a bit ridiculous as my car deductible is only $500.
Any waterproof bag has one flaw. The water pressure will cause the touchscreen to work funny. You cant select anything. Its like a giant thumb pressing the whole screen at once.
Imo buy a cheap disposable waterproof camera. Really how many photos would you take underwater?

yeah, I'd say go for the real disposable, or non-dispoable, underwater camera. But if you actually need to waterproof your phone, use an Aquapac. I can't suggest a specific model based on the Note's size, but I have several of these from previous phones and they're great. A little more protection from drops/bumps, and completely waterproof.
The Kodak sport camcorder is waterproof already and and I have seen it at best buy as cheap as $120 which is a lot less that what is going to cost you to get your phone working if that cheap waterproofing fails. I would not mind using that product to protect my phone when I'm anywhere close to water but I would not intentionally jump in it.
I just bought one of the iOttie Waterproof Skins....but not for my Note, but for my HP Touchpad. I bought the one for the ipad2, which is almost the exact same size as the Touchpad.
I like the idea of this, especially on a wireless chargeable device like my Touchpad is. I have one of the waterproof bags, and while it does work, it is kind of awkward, and the plastic is loose fitting, and just didn't' make it easy to use the Touchpad.
I actually have two Touchpads, and we like to use them when hanging out at the pool. We have a water misting system at the pool, and couldn't use the Touchpad before without the danger of it getting wet, so...I thought that a nice tight fitting watertight skin would be perfect. And since I don't have to break the seal to recharge the Touchpad, the skin should work for me much longer.
If the skin does everything I expect from it, then I *may* buy one for my Note, just for extreme cases of when I feel I want to protect it more than usual, but for now, I just use a ziploc bag for it, and it gets the job done just fine.
I will let you guys know what I think of it after it gets used by the pool.
Just wanted to update you on my purchase of the iOttie Waterproof Skin. As I said in my above post, I got this for my Touchpads, not for my Note, because I felt it would be more useful with the Touchpad being a wireless charging device.
So...Yes, it is waterproof. I didn't "dunk" it, and don't ever plan to. I did use it by the pool with the misters turned on, and it worked great. It was easier to use with the skin on it than with the waterproof bag I also have for it.
The skin is just not really noticeable. My finger doesn't slide on the screen as easy as it does without any protection, but it felt the same as when using the much more expensive waterproof bag. The skin is out of the way more, so it made the Touchpad easier to use than the bag system.
Haven't needed to take the skin off the Touchpads for charging, which is great. If someone could come out with a wireless charging system for our Note, I would seriously consider getting one of the iOttie skins for the note to use in harsh environments and leave it on there for extended periods, but without a wireless charging system, I could only see using the skin on the Note for EXTREME cases. If it wasn't for the problem of having to open it up each time for charging, then this would be a great option. iOttie needs to make wireless charging replacement battery doors for phones, along with selling the skin as an extra protective option.
If you are going to the beach, I do recommend the skin. It will at least keep sand/water out, and keep the sand from scratching the phone also.

In reality, inductive charging is pretty easy. Coil, connections. I've seen this sort of thing done on multiple devices, it just comes down to finding the right sized coil that'll fit and having the balls to solder it on.
That said, inductive pads are a tiny bit bulky and add some pennies in cost, but I don't get why EVERY device doesn't have it. It's awesome to have, and less strain on the USB connection.

I have been looking at my options for building an inductive charging setup for my Note. I actually have already bought just the Mugen Extended Battery cover (no Mugen battery), so that I could have the room to install a coil. This cover gives me a LOT of extra room. I just have to figure out how I want to connect it up to actually charge the Note. Just haven't had time to look into it closer yet.

Room for the coil is certainly one aspect, but the connection to the charging pads is certainly the more difficult task. Good luck, use a GOOD soldering iron, and take your time.
If you're not great at the iron, you might find some representative circuit board and experiment on soldering it.

It looks pretty cheap. It looks like a ziplock bag. If I were you I wouldnt trust that. I would not get it.

Someone is finally making a car cradle for the Touch Pro 2 that Verizon and Sprint (Not T-Mobile) should be able to use and its cheap. I emailed the U.S. seller and he said it fits though it is really for the GSM Euro versions. No surprise though as it is passive only. Its been years since I've seen a phone thick enough that the jaws need to be anywhere near as deep as the vast majority of the squeeze cradles on the market yet they still make them that deep, at least the ones that are big enough to hold a PDA. This would not be much of a problem except they use soft foam in the jaws that is almost invariably also very thick. When you squeeze it tight enough to keep the phone from falling out, it has a tendency to roll the foam right down over the screen making it difficult to use things like the slide tray in Touchflo 3D. It is also difficult to remove the phone as after a short while the teeth of the jaw start wearing down and it sticks closed making the button hard to push. And thats with a good cradle like and Arkon, which is what I have been using. Lesser quality cradles are even worse. There are better squeeze cradles that address these issues but they are all for Iphones. Saw a nice one the other day with nice thin jaws and rubber grips that fit the phone perfectly with a friction lock instead of teeth and a cam but it had and Ipod cable and FM transmitter built in making it very expensive at like $69. Looked real nice too with a nice shiny finish like the phone has but at that price, wasn't going to buy something that I had to cut up to use. To bad the company did not make one with a USB cable instead. Unfortunately most of the good stuff is made by companies that drank large quantities of the Steve Jobs kool-aid years ago.

My phone works splendidly with a $15 squeeze cradle from Walmart. It's not too thick, secure, and does not obscure the screen.
I have an old Treo 650 Pro-clip mount that works perfectly with the TP2. The phone slides in securely and comes out easily. Obviously no active connection but it works great. I put double sided tape in the back of the of the mount and it holds my Fuze perfectly as well.

Just came in the mail on Saturday. The cheap shipping took one week to the day. Quality of the cradle is very good. The clip at the top is actually spring loaded, not just plastic that bends back, like the Seidio holsters. It is removable if you won't need to use the cradle in landscape to make it easier to take in and out. The cut out at the bottom is definitely for the CDMA phones. It should work with the European versions also. THIS CRADLE WILL NOT WORK ON THE T-MOBILE VERSION AT ALL. It is a perfect fit for my Verizon phone. This is not a cradle you want if you need to use the keyboard while it is in. For me that is not and issue and it makes me uncomfortable having plastic wedged between my keyboard and screen anyways. Seems like it would be hard on the slider. The windshield mount is very nice. It has push button friction locks instead of screws for the joints and the rotation is spring loaded so its easy to rotate when needed one handed. The suction cup is very large and has a good positive locking mechanism. It is larger than the average suction cup so if you need a dash disk like I do, you will need the largest one you can find. Unfortunately it does not come with one. Since they are selling this so inexpensively, that probably a place they needed to cut their losses. The quality of the cradle is much higher than the price. The cradle does not use a standard mechanism to join it to the mount so you will either have to use the one it came with or go to the website and see if they have another kind of mounting solution. This is really the only limitation I can find. You will not be able to use it with your Proclip solution if you have one. Any more questions you have, just leave them in this forum.

I had one for my Touch Pro and it was nice enough but it kind of made the gap between the keyboard and phone wider over time. If you absolutely have to have the keyboard open while driving its probably the best on on the market, though to me that keyboard open is just and invitation to disaster. Its hard enough to keep hands off the phone while closed They are not inexpensive by any means. Depending on how you need to configure it you can easily spend well over a $100 bucks. The powered cradle alone without a car specific mount is $60 which is competitive with other powered solutions, but the non powered ones at $40 bucks seem more than a little like highway robbery to me especially since you will still spend $30+ on the mounting solution for the cradle. Still, if you need that keyboard open its the only decent solution at this time. They have no powered option for Verizon yet, but the non powered one they have listed for the AT&T Tilt 2 will work on Verizon and Sprint. The phones are exactly the same shape as the AT&T phone except for the ports on the bottom. If you want a fitted cradle but don't need the keyboard to open while mounted, this is the posted cradle only real solution I've found, but its inexpensive and good quality.
Now if you want the best of both worlds, I was wrong about the Proclip mounts not working with the cradle. They make absolutely the best mounting solution hands down since there is no damage to the vehicle. They have cradle adapters on the site that will make it work and the price is not to bad.

The suction cup on the cradle is 3.25 inches and this adapter is 3.5 inches so it should work.

Nice find on the holster. Never had a problem myself with a good suction cup holder and nothing bounces like a Freightliner. I find that taping a small vanity mirror to the dash works much better than those little round plastic disks since they where designed to stick to glass. If you have two phones and two holders like I do, the small rectangular one they sell in the automotive department at Walmart will hold both and its only 2 bucks and looks nice. I am not a fan of any kind of vent clip. The two worst enemies of electronics are heat and cold and something as heavy as a PDA is going to break the vent eventually. I'm going to get the holster. Been looking for one that faces out like that.
I already have a clip in the car so won't need to take my mount with me when I get off the road.

Ok, so this is my first thread on these forums. If I'm breaking the rules or posting incorrectly, etc. Please let me know how to fix it.
I went ahead and got all the measurements off of various sites before I attempted this. I lost the paper I wrote the dimensions on. But this does work. I used an exacto knife, old pair of wire cutters and a file. I wish I had a dremel to do this, It would've been a lot cleaner and more exact.
I ordered an OEM Thunderbolt Extended Battery, Otterbox Defender Case, and a Zagg Screen Protector. I've been using this setup for a month now and am very pleased.
I spent $65 total on amazon.com and zagg.com for everything.
I first laid the battery in the battery cover and scored the edges. I pushed through it on one corner than began to cut. I filed down the edges. I then laid the cover in the Otterbox case and scored the outline. Then I ran the exacto back and forth for quite a while until I got through on one edge, than began to cut.
Here are my results. I know the images aren't the best quality. I haven't bought a new camera since before I've had my first android.
I peeled a bit of the padding out of the back of the Otterbox case and put it on the battery just to see how much it would push out the silicon cover, not much.
Now I am going to double-side tape the left over rectangle of the battery cover to the battery and get some weather stripping and place it on top of that.
The Zagg and the Otterbox mate well at first, eventually they begin to separate around the edges, I used the spray between them that came with the Zagg shield. The Zagg stays in place though. I haven't noticed any dust or debris since it's started. So far over this month they've stayed together in the center. I don't mind it as I am pretty hard on my phones physically and usage wise. It's hard to tell when the screen is actually on.

I saw on htcpedia that you can actually use the Defender case without the back plastic piece. Just wrap the silicone outer cover around the phone with just the front plastic on. Haven't tried it but their video shows that it seems to fit perfect.

The problem with doing that is the phone will not fit in the holster screen out and the volume buttons are way to sensitive. If you cut the otter box back and the standard battery door everything fits nearly prefect.

I believe that also voids your (lifetime) warranty. Commuter cases are better anyway, but that's just me..

You should read the fine print. Its hardly a lifetime warranty. In fact is only for a year. And if you have a flaw within that year, they will only replace it once. Besides, how many things can really go wrong with a phone case? Once it breaks, your probably ready for a different one anyway.

Just did this last night....and I agree, would be much easier with a dremel. I'm going to borrow a friends to smooth the cuts, but so far, it works like a champ. I used an OEM Rezound extended battery though

Looks and fell you can't even tell you did the mod. I did nice clean cuts the battery cover was so close on my cuts a had to go back with sand paper as I was not getting cell service do to the antenna no connected. So take your time the OEM batt cover already has the outline of the battery so that cut is very easy. after that just lay the back cover in the outerbox and mark and cut you will be very happy with it.

Well the 4000 mah battery has to be the same around so even if it is thicker I think the outerbox rubber will still give in and pull over it just fine.
Today I did the same case mods.
I purchased a used standard rezound back piece for $5 + $4 for shipping. This way if I screw up I only lose the used back piece.
Well I did a good tight job on the back piece. It's like HTC already put cutting lines inside the back piece to make it easier for us. I used a dremel tool with cutoff wheel. Also used a file to smooth it out.
On the defender box I cut the rectangle a little too low and had to lengthen the hole. But I don't think it matters that the hole is 1/8 inch larger than necessary.
I am generally pleased, but I suspect this leaves the phone more vulnerable to water damage if it becomes submerged in liquid.
Sorry to everyone for not checking on this thread in such a long time. This has had a very solid feel. I love the rezound. Also, as for the 4000mah battery. I looked at the youtube video about it. It is a tad thicker than the OEM extended battery. But I see no reason why it wouldn't fit. The silicon will stretch. I'm actually looking into getting the 4500mah battery from mugen for the thunderbolt to see if that will work. I don't mind the added bulk, obviously haha. I also need to clean my case up with my dremel. I've just been lazy. I can take pics of this phone later to show how it's held up. The only other thing is it is hard to fit the phone in screen out in the belt clip if you want to use it as a stand. With any mugen, imho, it will not fit that way at all. But regular face in, no battery will affect that.
I'd be careful about handing all that cash to mugen. Their batteries are under 80 percent of the claims.

The OEM extended battery is pretty good and I got mine for $25. That's a pretty good deal.

One thing i really found super convenient was the magnetic QI charger i had in both my car and my boat with the nexus 5.
just slap that phone on there, and it would stay put and charge at the same time..
have anybody found a way to get similar QI charging and mount for the G3? after the nexus 5 I cant live without wireless charging.
I have some neodynem magnets laying around, but i dont think the G3 would be secure enough like the nexus 5 was, maybe it would be possible to modify the rear cover with some metal plates or similar?..

Unfortunately, they are all non-magnetic.
This one has magnetic options for the devices that do not have a smooth back. I expect it to influence a market full of cheaper copies soon.

I wish the mount's usb input were at the base, or at least on the back of the holder. That would make the cable stand out less. I feel like it should be in the base for that kind of money.
Edit: This one is slightly cheaper and has a lot more features. It hasn't been released yet but might be by the time people in the US get their phones.
Edit 2: Never mind, it doesn't look like that one is going to launch. Idk why some things like the NFC feature haven't been used by another company - it can't be that difficult or expensive.

Its a pity it failed to meet it's kickstarter goal. he was looking for $150k though, sounds a lot for a kickstarter of that scale.
Meanwhile, I ordered one of these. I use a non QI version now and I like it, it's discrete, and doesn't really look like a mount with nothing attached. Looks like a lot of manufacturers are going for these 'microsuction' materials. Less problems than magnets.
I have no problem using this one with my Nexus 5 for a long time.

The G3 though, I can't find good Hot Zone for charging.

I think part of his failure may have been too many initial features with too high a cost. The LEDs with a sensor could have been dropped. I can even see that going wrong in a car where if you don't bother to put your phone there, reaching over to the radio or the person beside you would make it light up. Also color choices must raise the cost some but just black for the start up would have been fine.
What's wrong with magnets? I always figured the suction ones might have trouble if cold, etc. I've got the InfiniApps mount and it works well, just doesn't have wireless charging. But my Note 2 is flat on the back, and the back cover is removable unlike a lot of phones these days. Not sure if the metal ones even are a metal that magnets attract.

I prototyped one for my old Note 3, and to get enough magnetic force to hold it in place, the compass/magnometer were useless and it completely screwed up useage of the sPen.
I fitted 4 12mm dia x 0.3mm thick disc magnets in the back cover to correlate with 4 countersunk magnets fixed around the perimeter of the round QI charger. this allowed me to mount it vertically and horizontally. it worked great apart from the above exceptions, and was completely hidden on the phone.
The microsuction one I have has more trouble when warm than cold, and only then when it has gained a bit of pocket fluff. Works great if you clean it regularly.

You had to put magnets in the phone? I only had to put in the thin piece of metal that InfiniApps provided for mine. I can mount it both portrait and landscape and it sticks right away. Do you have a cover on yours? Maybe it's just the type of backing it had.
The G3 may have problems with the magnet types due to it's curved back though.

No cover or case. I didn't want any visible external signs so the magnets were fixed inside the original battery cover. a metal plate didn't work as there is not enough force to overcome the distance without increasing the size of the magnets around the charger. Having a magnet to magnet contact always feels better when it locates.
the back of the G3 is less curved than it looks: the middle third is almost flat. The QI coil appears to take up most of it though.
If the manufacturers could standardise(Yeah, I know) and put a ferromagnetic rail down either side of a device, it would be easy. The two rails could even be used as power rails, doing away with the need for wireless power transfer completely.
Was thinking about a metal plate inside the battery cover. But really thin magnets might be better. Would love to see someone give this a go.

This is interesting to me. I just came across these last night. They simply look amazing. I am curious about this too! Hopefully someone else can chime in!
Looks kinda nice from photos but no matter what it looks like, i can't justify the price for a thin layer of wood covered in plastic for frickin 50$.
Since nobody has chimed in yet and I received mine today (was shocked that Amazon used USPS Sunday Delivery) I will say a few words about my initial impression. First of all, I did not get that custom $50-ish dollar one linked in the OP even though I thought it was very pretty, I just bought one of the standard ones.
So here are my impressions so far:
1. It is a relatively thick case as it makes the phone's back almost completely flat and it has to allow for the thickness of the wood.
2. How the top, bottom, and buttons are somewhat exposed, it reminds me of the Spigen "Thin Fit" case (aside from the thickness).
3. Because I did not get a single solid wood finish, the inlay (bike in my example) is not completely flush with the main wood background. It is slightly recessed.
4. I generally do not use a Qi charger but I placed it on my Incipio Ghost 100 pad and it "seems" that it is a little pickier about placement compared to my Ringke Fusion case most likely because the phone is much higher off the charging pad (so to speak). But as I said, it seems like it to me. I could be wrong. I do not have a triple coil pad handy, but I'm guessing if you have a triple coil Qi pad, this will have no issues with alignment of the phone's charging coil.
5. It fits my Kenu Airframe+, barely. This was the most important factor for me. However, because the buttons are recessed, it doesn't matter where the Airframe+ sits on the phone.
I have attached some photos (please excuse the dust and lint as my camera's macro mode loves to focus on that) and an Ampere screenshot. Hope it helps a little.
I like the ship case made from 18th century naval timbers. But $50+ for a case is not in my budget right now.
While I do not have one of their cases. The company I work for owns the building that Carved is in. I work maintenance and am over at the building fairly often to work in the half of the building we occupy. The people that work there are really nice and have some awesome equipment. Really top notch products.

Just wanted to provide a quick review for this case ... This thing is a lifesaver if you're in a bind and don't have access to your standard charging options! It is a bit bulky, obviously, but the trade off is worth it! 10,000 mAh gets two full charges so with this case your phone can easily last a few days ... great while camping!
There's no obstruction of the camera (any lense) so snapping pics isn't a problem. Also, you can charge the case and phone while the case is installed with superfast charging! I found Samsung DEX also works through the case too!
Would highly recommend this case! I also love having it around for when we lose power due to storms (which unfortunately has been quite frequent in my area) ... The piece of mind knowing that my phone won't die and I'll be able to stay informed of the situation and make emergency calls if needed is indispensable!
While I too think big numbers are better. This looks way too massive to actually be useful, their own description says it's as thick as 3 s23 ultras, that wouldn't fit in my pocket. Personally I'd just stick with the tiny 5000mAh Anker charger that is magsafe compatible for those that have a magsafe case and it has a nice USB c to c cable for charging the phone and itself. It's smaller than the phone and fits in my pocket with the phone.
This looks like a great concept for extreme users not everyday uses.
I have a 20000mAh portable battery pack that is less thick than this case would make my S23 Ultra so I'll probably just bring the battery pack when my husband forces me to go camping this summer lol
I also have this case, thanks to ZL for sending me a test unit. I really like the case even though it's something I'll use very sparingly. But for camping trips, this one will be a must. Low signal usually means awful battery and I'll for sure be slapping this case on to keep the phone going the entire weekend. I know battery packs are good too and I have one, this case really excels when you need to move around and still use your phone, and don't have to deal with extra cords.
I will say that ZL customer service is awesome too. I had a minor issue with my first test unit and they were willing to get another one sent out right away!
My suggestion is to get a magsafe case and a magsafe powerbank (I have ESR 10000mah) they go hand in hand and is much less uglier!
