[Q] Wallpapersize? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I'm currently on D4 rom. The rom has the ability for you to use the phone in tablet mode. What size should wallpapers be in a case like that?

I think 1280x800 but i am not sure
I never use wallpapers with exact size of the screen, I use any high resolution image that I like
Here is a very big collection of great wallpapers of any sizes: www.wallbase.cc

[Q] Wallpaper size and resolution

Hey guys and gals,
How about wallpaper size and resolution?
What size and resolution of wallpaper are you guys using for the Archos 101. I'm currently trying to find the best size of wallpaper that will allow me to see the whole picture on the screen without having to cut a large chunk out of it.
What are you guys experiencing and have observed.

If you just use the stock wallpaper app, that is never going to happen. It will fore you to cut the picture in a square, and then zooms in.
Use something like Wallpaper Set and Save, or MultiPicture Live Wallpaper. I prefer the latter as it does not cut or crop my picture.
Same as every other Android device.
Double the narrow resolution.
So in our case, wallpaper for the 1024x600 display is 1024x1200.
For some reason though, not sure if it's Archos or Android, the quality is still degraded a bit. Not noticeable for a lot of images unless there's text that's already on the verge of illegible.
thanks, TempestDK! MultiPicture Live Wallpaper worked like a charm
I found that on my A70, I had to use a 1280x1040 image was perfect and gave me the full image. I have a great Super Mario wallpaper on currently (see attachment).
for A70 -> 960 x 800 or 800 x 960 and will work in vertical and horizontal position too
Here is a list of the recommended wallpaper resolutions for each Generation 8 devices
Archos 28 - 320x480 or 480x320
Archos 32 - 400x480 or 480x400
Archos 43 - 854x960 or 960x854
Archos 70 - 800x960 or 960x800
Archos 101 - 1024x1200 or 1200x1024

how about when it is on horizontal??does it fits?
I tried a 1024 x 1200 on my Archos 101 and it didnt look great. It lost the bottom of the picture. Looked OK in Portrait. There's something going on with the way Archos is resizing the pics.....

[Q] What size are wallpapers?

I'd like to make some custom wallpapers that will be compatible with every Android phone, can someone tell me what size they should be? Thanks.
That depends. Clicky
Could I just design them at a very high resolution, and they would scale down and still look good for phones with smaller resolutions?
I generally use computer wallpapers since the phone prompts you to crop & scales down accordingly. However, a lot of people notice better quality when using the correct size. I have cropped and resized all of my wallpapers to the correct size for my device (960x800) because I'm a wallpaper junkie. I have noticed that most people have a 480x800 display, which will use a wallpaper of 960x800 (twice the length, same height to allow for scrolling). Usually wallpapers made for Android - like the ones that come in wallpaper packs - are sized to 960x800. Newer devices are coming out with higher quality displays, and those with HTC Sense 3.0 don't have scrolling wallpaper, so 960x800 isn't future-proof. I would suggest making the wallpapers in a larger resolution, and offering both the high resolution to crop & scale, and an already resized version to 960x800 for the majority of current Android users.

how to get wallpaper at proper size (mini pro)?

the screen size of the mini pro is 320x480 and when I download a wallpaper (of the same size) and look at it in with the gallery app, it fits my screen exactly. but when I then want to set it as my wallpaper with gallery, apparently I can only use a part, at maximum half of it as max size? how come? how can I get wallpapers to be properly displayed at their full screen size?
Wallpapers need to be wide enough to cover 3 homescreens - due to the scrolling. It does not scroll more than 3 screens regardless of actual # of homescreens on your phone.
Therefore your wallpaper should be 960 x 480 for full coverage (3 x 320 by 480). Took me a while to work that out myself
thanks for letting me know
but then I wonder why people upload so many wallpapers with just the size for 1 screen?
edit: now Ive read that the best size is actually supposed to be 640x480, because apparently it doesnt move that far when scrolling

[Q] MIUI - own made wallpapers display goes way off the quality

Guys, i made my own wallpapers and reedit some original miui wallpapers with cs5 that come with themes always display off the quality. Not in HD. I use official miui.
I tried with different ppi and resolution, it look real hd if i set as desktop background on my computer. But not on my phone. The tiny line will display blur line on the phone.. It goes the same when i edit some icons too.
I wonder if theres any program or specific setting for images and icons that would display like hd for miui? Anybody guide me or point me to any program that appropriate for miui?
Thanks

Yes, the full scale H x V dimensions for Sony Tablet S ICS wallpaper images is 1920 x 1280 pixels, but the images must be cropped if they are to be displayed correctly.
Sony explains how to select a wallpaper image in ICS HERE. To the best of my knowledge, Sony has not yet released a video showing how to crop an image in ICS, however, they do show how to crop an image in HC in this VIDEO located at YouTube's web site. Cropping a wallpaper image in ICS is done pretty much the same way as it was in HC.
I provided a wallpaper image template and explained the pixel dimensions and viewable areas of wallpaper images HERE. I hope you find the template and information useful.
I make my own wallpaper images using an image editing program on my PC then copy them to my tablet into a folder I created and named /sdcard/Pictures/Wallpapers. Any images stored in the tablet's /sdcard/Pictures folder and its subfolders can be previewed and chosen via the "Gallery" selection on the "Choose wallpaper from" pop-up that appears whenever you long-press on any blank area near the center of the tablet's screen. You can also get to the "Gallery" selection via Settings > Display > Wallpaper.
Of course, you could always download and install wallpaper apps, but most of them are advertisement based and they never provided the control you can have by making your own wallpaper images and cropping them yourself.
I hope you find my reply helpful.

I also have installed the Simple Image Wallpaper app that your link leads to. It is actually a free, open source, non-advertisement based Live Wallpaper app. It works well, IMHO. One nice feature of the app is it allows for using different images for landscape and portrait mode.
Simple Image Wallpaper works best with images whose pixel resolution is the same as the screen of the telephone or tablet the app is installed on. For the Sony Tablet S in landscape mode, images that are 1280 x 752 pixels work best. In portrait mode, images that are 800 x 1232 pixels work best.
If the image is not 1280 x 752 or 800 x 1232 pixels, Simple Image Wallpaper will rotate the image if necessary for best fit, then stretch or shrink the image, and then crop the image until it fits the tablet's screen. This will sometimes cause parts of the image to be unviewable or to be displayed in a mode opposite to the intended landscape or portrait mode. Still, it's a great app.
Had expected lag what with it being a live wallpaper, but none at all, fantastic!

Sorry to give this thread one hell of a bump but Simple Image Wallpaper just saved my sanity! Thanks, the word needs to be spread about this. I tried all the other "apps" and I can't get an image to display correctly in landscape mode to save my life. I'm using this on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It took me a minute to find it though under "wallpaper>live wallpaper" because it does not appear in my app drawer.
Thanks again! :good:
