Just wondering why it has been so difficult to get a root method like zergrush and superoneclick to work on the xperia s with a locked bootloader. To date every Sony phone from 2011 and earlier has had a method. Is it even going to be a possibility to create a root method. Also is there even a point to have one for 2.3.7 seeing ics is coming out soon.
That's the exact reason. No one wants to work on 2.3.7 when ICS is coming very soon, especially considering Sony can patch the vulnerabilities we discover in GB in ICS.
Also, all those root exploits you mentioned use different vulnerabilities that are already patched by Sony, so something new would have to be done. I have some ideas on how to exploit ICS, don't want to reveal yet because see my previous post.

Had a method depending on what version. Some of the latest updates to those 2011 devices are not rootable anymore.

He's likely talking about the /data/local/tmp trick.
Does that work on the xperia s

No. There is no root exploit known to work on carrier locked 2012 Xperia devices.

HI!!
Anybody can confirm any ROOT package reliably working on JellyBean?
I am to try Bin4Ry's Root with Restore BUT this never did work reliably even on ICS. I always had to rollback kernel to old version before applying, and since JB has not yet flashable ftf file I think this won't work.
Use the search button next time.

Yes that's it. I have locked bootloader, need a solution for this.
Dear Android JB community,
I have Sony Xperia Go with JB update (4.1.2) BN - 6.2.A.0.400. I have been looking for an easy method to root my phone post update.
Method 1:
Came across one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
But it proved to be not working for go in particular: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460&page=277
Method 2: http://exzacklyright.blogspot.ch/2012/07/nexus-7-guide-for-adbunlocking-rooting.html
Will this also work for Sony phones?
Would great if any one could help me with any updates to the above method or any other simple methods for a successful root...
Thanks a lot in advance
With kind regards,
INO

I am interested too.
Waiting for updates.
If u bootloader is unlocked
U can easily root
Bt I guess there are no rooting methods available for locked bootloader
There is no "easy" method but locked xgo can be rooted. This has been discussed in other posts. I'd get you a link but I'm on mobile right now.
Stock and locked xGO beans.

I was implying you'd check the rest of this area for the steps.
Easy but needs bootloader unlocked, can oc, have cwm, haven't tried it personally:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250695
Longer method but can keep locked bootloader, no oc, no cwm. I answered someone else before:

hi all
new from samsung to sony.
just curious, is it the only way you guys used to root or re-root xperia devices after updates with vroot, tools from DooMLoRD etc? i mean except those mentioned, nobody use other alternatives to root xperia devices (in general, not z tablet only)?
and thus if these tools are not compatible with new firmwares then u r not able to root your device in case the previous root was removed?

You can open the bootloader and then you will always be able to root (flash custom recovery, root, flash stock kernel).

Then I guess you can only root with the exploits and need to be careful about upgrades.
Is it possible to downgrade with Flashtool on locked BL? I think it is (but it's confusing). If it is then you need to keep FTF of the current version in case you upgrade to a new version that can not be rooted.

for rooting, i am fine. just have to get rid of the bl and adb issue in recovery first
Any root available yet for these? Would the Z3 method work?

I would be cautious about any root that requires bootloader to be unlocked first as you will loose drm keys. Consequences may not show up until later, I am speaking from experience with Z Ultra GPe that ended up with nonfunctional camera after 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 updates. It has been fixed in custom roms but no solution to restore camera on stock roms has been found.
we need to ask developer like DoomLord to give us a hand and to contribute to help him or any one else on getting this thing rooted asap
I have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra, running 4.4.4. Is it possible to do a simple root (in order to make adjustments to the LED and sound), but not affect the stock ROM or over-the-air updates? I don't want to miss out on the official Sony Lollipop, so should I maybe wait to root until after that update is released? Thanks.
No, you can't get offical updates if you have your device rooted , although you can root your device till the new update is on the line. Just unroot your sony device get the update and then root it again. Otherwise try any other rom.
Ah, many thanks. I didn't realise that was possible. I thought rooted was rooted and there was no going back. Although I've rooted a couple of devices before, I'm still something of a newbie. Would you be able to point me in the direction of a good tutorial or website with instructions how to do a basic root, and un-root, on the Z Ultra? Cheers.

I found it pretty helpful , instructions are simple.

Is there a reason as to why google doesn't allow OTA on rooted devices?
