[Q] Rom with skilled devs for SGS2? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there,
Question for people who tried more than 3-4 roms for sgs2:
I'm looking for a rom with an upkeep for this phone, but it is really hard to get oriented in the development forums here.
I'm not looking for a rom with a great theme and fancy icons - I'm looking for a rom with real devs standing behind it. Which one?
Please no "use search" or "try them all" replies, thanks trolls!

Not trolling... but did you even SEE the last thread stickied at the top of Q&A? Maybe you should give it a read.

I've seen it - that's exactly why I'm not asking for "teh superleet rom????", but a rom that has devs behind it, not just some derivative work that those forums are filled with. Maybe something outside the xda forums? Dunno. It's impossible to find a great rom for this phone without spending months on the forums.
Simple reply with name of the rom will be sufficient answer, thanks

Cyanogen if you like the AOSP look - obviously a lot of good devs behind it. AOKP ROMs are worth a look too. I've tried both HyDrOG3N and Hydra-H²o (currently on the latter). The whole AOKP experience is very polished, very impressive.
As for Samsung based ROMs, HyperDroid and CheckROM are the two that stand out for me. Neither have released any ICS ROMs yet, but their GB releases were both very good.

sorry admins
Well, I think we all remember what it was like being new to ROMS and flashing. I certainly could have used some advice
The only ICS based rom out is an alpha some bugs are present in it however. Link below, they've cancelled development, until CM9. Full description on the website.

If you like a ROM with some nice tweaks and great battery life then I would check out ANDROIDMEDA. Thats what I'm using, very happy with it. Might be in the other 'Original Development' forum.
Hope it helps

I think the main problem with such threads is that they usually get closed down by the admins because it all comes down to personal preference. Well that is what they say before they lock them.
They advise users to experiment to find what works for them. Seriously, I've seen about 3 of them closed in the last week.
BTW, I use checkrom. Very good and easy to customise with its kitchen app. Give it s go...it has it all.

The BEST MIUI ROM?

All the ones I try seem to have some sort of issue and are too temperamental for everyday use.
Has anyone got a stable MIUI ROM with few problems that can be used permanently?
Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
dude ,test every miui rom that you find on the whole internet and decide what you like ,because there is no best rom or anything like that .That's why it's named custom rom , to choose yourself ,your decision in making your mind with what miui rom to use.
This is a good place to start http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529173
or try this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535793
ICS versions are not stable yet...
By the way you dont know the Questian "Which is best" is banned on the XDA.....
Flashing roms, backup & restore with CWM is simple. Not trying a bunch of Miui roms yourself is sheer laziness. Anything else you'd like us to spoonfeed you while we're at it before this thread gets closed ?
To those who are throwing cheap shots, instead of giving advice, get a grip.
If someone knows of a decent ROM, then why am I not entitled to ask, instead of 'wasting my time' trying multiple ROMs.
Some people on here are so arrogant it's unbelievable.

the best rom queston is one that members will generaly not give you an answer to, as each rom will meet the needs of members in diffrent ways. the two links above are the best answers you will get. Also just ignore any comments that are just having a go, you have every right to ask the question and if a Mod thinks other wise then they will remove the thread.
Just try the ROMs until you find one you like, if you're too lazy to do that, you definitely shouldn't be posting on this website

We can't say what the best is for you. If I'm not mistaken, threads like this one have been locked in the past, and there's not exactly any hope for this being around either. Try them out for yourself. Only YOU can tell what you like and don't like.
By the way, AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) bases their work off of AOSP (Android Open Source Project). Kang is the word for using someone else's work to build your own ROM. AOKP is just the name of TeamKang's ROM build.
Breathes out slowly, squeezed trigger gently....the sharp report rings out........another best Rom thread lies twitching on the ground as its life ebbs away

Even worse. A 100 post member should know better IMHO. There's MANY noobs with 500+ posts too, even 1000+, especially in CM10 and Siyah threads where I usually browse.

SHOstock2 ICS or SuperNexus JB?

I'm getting a GS3 and giving my GS2 to my gf. While I prefer the customization options of AOKP it isn't as stable as some of the other ROMS. I want her to have a great experience with a rom that will be stable and not so buggy. I've used SHOstock2 before and found it to be quite stable. But I'd like some opinions of those that have used both SHOstock2 and SuperNexus JB. Is the JB rom very stable or a bit buggier since it's newer? What has been your experience?
Thanks in advance. ^_^

Thanks.
Jellybean is still under development.. Its gonna have bugs. Id use a Rom that has been around long enough since most the kinks are ironed out.

Actually yes it is, because vs threads mean opinions, which everyone's is different. Your idea of stable and somebody else's is different.
Sent from Team Pirate! Using Tapatalk 2
We can kill his now . Angel I'm disappointed, you've been around long enough to know the mods don't like threads like this. PM people if u want their opinions. All these devs work hard to give us free awesomeness, so it kinda pits them against each other when we compare them or try and lift one above another. They're all good. Try em out and see for yourself.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Both SHOstock2 and Task's AOKP ICS are ROCK.
I haven't tried any JB firmware yet but don't expect the "bug-free" stage. Stable? they should be.
I read the rules so I'm within my rights to post a thread like this. If the mods don't like these types of posts they can simply use this opportunity to adjust the forum rules. I have no issues with that. But I've read and double read them and I'm not violating the forum rules. Where does it say keep all opinions to yourself and don't ask or give an opinion to others?
And I'm not trying to sound rude or inconsiderate here I'm just being factual and objective regarding the subject. I very much appreciate the hard work and diligence the developers put into their projects but if rom A is buggier or less stable than rom B its not an issue of "show respect to everyone" if someone else is simply stating their own experiences with that rom. I primarily use AOKP but even on the ICS builds there have been certain apps that cause a hard freeze guaranteed that never did when running SHOstock2. It's simply a statement of fact for me based on my experiences.

These types of threads ARE allowed... Mods come in and close them because users flame the op generally or are just plain negative... It gets out of control and we have to police it up. If you don't like what the op is asking just don't post simple as that... and if it's NOT allowed REPORT it... We have mods that will take care of the issues (or if you can't control yourself and MUST post apply to become a mod)...
You sir have just undone some work and created more for the mods.
Not my problem. Carry on.
EDIT: These threads have a 99.9% failure rate. They degrade rapidly leading in them needing to be locked. Again, not my problem.
PS - get an I777 and develop us some venom awesomeness.

All the information u need about any rom u want to flash is found in its thread. And in the Op of each thread it tells u if anything major is busted. Along with screen shots normally. There is no reason u can't look in the threads to see what if anything is wrong with the rom and if its enjoyable to use. U can also PM users that are using the rom to see what problems they may have had. So all the info u need already exists. I could flash a rom and have no problems. Everything fits perfectly. You may flash it and think it sucks. I may have apps that don't require push notifications or maybe I don't use sync options. U might. This will affect battery life. So not only is there never a reason to start a thread like this. But even if u do your experience versus mine will be drastically different based on what we use how we use it and what we install. This topic has been beaten to DEATH. Flash the rom and try it for a day. Switch if u don't like it. Is there anyone here who can tell u what you'll like better than YOU?

I AM A MOD. Did you read my post above yours?
I don't want this to become a bigger issue than it already has. This thread wouldn't have "degraded" if the unconstructive posts were just left out.
I'm obviously not getting any help with this and anyone that would have wanted to post is scared aware by the previous negative posts. I agree with Venom that if you don't like a post or a topic, and you have nothing constructive to add to the post, you are not obligated to post in it. I'm still new to the forums and I'm only here to try and learn and help others with the knowledge that I acquire through my experiences and through the information that I read here at XDA.
I love getting feedback and constructive criticism because it can help expand my knowledge and I don't flame others or try to deride them for their questions or comments. When trying to help others or when posting on their threads please be mindful that we all began somewhere. At one point we all lacked the knowledge. We gain understanding by asking questions, reading, researching, and trying things out for ourselves.
Thank you and have a good day fine gentlemen. I'm going to pick up my GS3 and void its warranty now. =)
Ive ran supernexus very smooth and stable beside a bug or two. the dev for that rom said he may possibly be releasing a newer build today. So things should be extremely stable.
I forgot what this thread was about halfway through Page one lol I thought I was in xda rules and etiquette. I'd personally give a hand-me-down with the oldest, least likely to "waste my time fixing later" software. You'll be expected to handle whatever happens to it, undoubtedly.

What is the best miui out there with everything working?

I would like to know what the best miui Rom is out there for the htc amaze, with camera and everything working?

Well, there is definitely no "best ROM". It is all down to preference really. Developers and XDA don't like best ROM threads since it gets some of us mad because we sometimes feel people are treating us like their slaves. That causes some to quit, and without developers, there'd be no XDA!
Check them all out and see which you like. There's a couple of MIUI threads in the development section. You'll find what you want by reading the,. Most of them do have camera working, and a bunch of stuff. All non-Sense 3.6 ROMS are a work in progress and have not been 100% bug free and likely won't because stupid HTC doesn't release the complete source code!
Hope this helps.

Yeah you should flash 'em all. It's just like pokemon when you think about it. The one that suits you best would be the one to use daily. :good:
Closing thread
There is absolutely no such thing as the absolute perfect or "Best ROM". A custom ROM is all about personal preference, hence the name custom. When you customize something you are generally making it more pleasing to yourself or more usable by you. To compare ROMs is like comparing framing hammers. One may fit your hand better, one may be easier to grip, one may have a straight claw, one may have a curved claw, the point is you would choose the one that suits you best to use everyday. The same goes with custom ROMs the "Best ROM" for you will be the one that best benefits you and gives you features you like. Now just because you like the ROM and it's features not all will. We are humans and humans are going to have disagreements. But arguing over what is the "Best ROM" should not be one of the reasons why as there is no such thing as the 'Best ROM". So this thread is being closed as it is a discussion that will never reach a definitive conclusion
