Hi everybody!
I updated my SGS2 with official ICS for my product code... Some time later I noticed unusual "feature". I'll try to explain...
Before, still on Gingerbread, when I go to SMS application (official) and when I enter recipient number manually (not from contact list), name of contact will be displayed instead number as soon as I tap on "message text" field (of course, if I have that person in Contacts list).
Now, on ICS, it is not in such way. When I tap on "message text" field, the "recipient number" field will not show name instead number I entered. Later, when I open "messaging" application, I can't see names, but recipient numbers instead in thread list. If I open "messaging" application one or two hours later, I can see names of recipients in thread list.
I tried to flash my phone again using Odin (first flash to ICS was made using KIES). I tried to wipe data and cache partition. I'm sure that I stored contact number only once in Contacts application (I know that similar problems can occur if I have same number stored more then once under different names).
Nothing above not helped. I please for help!
Best regards and thanks in advance!

I have a person whom i need to send a text message to. I have removed him from my contacts (to troubleshoot this crazy problem). When I text him, by going to my phone icon on main page, then type in the phone number, then click the third icon (yellow icon with envelope), it then automatically adds a +1 at the start, puts dashes in the number, AND adds "[email protected]" (the dns address of our network (I added the quotes). Then when I type the message and hit send, it shows as "sending" but never ACTUALLY sends it.
I have searched for this number in my contacts list, also using "Power Search" that I purchased, and I can't find his cell number at all (i have REMOVED him!).
If I do the above, but before sending, go back up into the number field, and edit the number back to straight cell#, a pop up appears "Converting to text message..." and then after finally putting the cell# back in, this time it doesn't auto-re-format the number, and it goes as a text.
NORMALLY, to text/sms, I would just go to my contacts' entry, then click the "envelope", and presto... send. But, for THIS contact, the same thing happens as above (thus the reason I deleted his contact info to troubleshoot).
Thanks for any help!

yes, all my contacts are google (sorry, forgot to mention that).... i don't have any local contacts in the phone itself (at least i don't think so), and i also have contacts in facebook (but this guy isn't on my facebook at all)...
You can use a secondary messaging app like handcent or go sms pro, and see if this happens again. Just a wierd problem!

I wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem or if a solution has been mentioned somewhere.
Basically when I receive a call, the contact name and information doesn't show up. Instead, it just displays the number. In the call logs, the names also don't show and I can only see numbers. I installed exdialer and everything shows as should be with names in the program, but the problem is when calls come in the display defaults to samsung's dialer so I still can't see who is calling.
I'm on a deodexed LF6 stock rom. Any help and / or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Which Contacts are displayed in the Contact list? Which contacts do are you choosing to display?? Do you have contacts on your SIM card??
I've chosen to display all contacts from all accounts. No contacts on sim but I've also checked to display that as well.

Double check you haven't doubled up on your contacts. I recently updated my uncles S2 to ICS, and he had this issue with only numbers being displayed. when i took a look further into it via the contacts menu, i found multiple entries for the one person. For some reason that was enough to confuse the phone and only display number only for calls and texts. Did you do a contact back up when switching to the custom rom, or anything contact related when switching? Even any kind of back up you made, when restoring, could have done this. But most times ive seen this issue, its due to have one too many of the same contact!
Have you tried choosing just one at a time??
thanks for both of your suggestions. It neither tips worked, so I deleted my google accounts and then reloaded and it worked.

That's why I never link any accounts with my Contacts. I only use contacts from the Phone itself.

I'have installed [ROM][4.1.2][AOKP/CM] GT-I9100/I9100P Vanilla RootBox [23/10][v3.0].
Is there i way to add multiple recipents when sending a message/SMS. ?
I can't find a way to open a list /group in my contact and then select desired contacts from that list and add them.
You can just type a name in the search box and select name from that search box.
Is this possible in aokp roms?

How about using a third party app like Go SMS ? I never use stock sms.
Yes, it's possible, enter number of person 1, then type ",", then number of person 2...
like this:
123456789, 234567890, 34567801

Is there a way to access to a group contact (as in Go Sms) in order to send sms to all contacts being the goup? Because it wastes time to type manually the name of each contact whom I want to send sms...
It depends on which ROM you want to do this. In CyanogenMod there's no problem. Once added is visible as group.
Hello All,
I have been experiencing a strange problem for a long time and now I'd finally like to eliminate it.
When I first got my DS5 (bought directly from Dell at announcement!), I moved my contacts database over from a couple WinMobile2003 phones (HTC TyTN I & II). The conversion went smoothly except for the strange occurrence of extraneous characters - in particular commas! I've combed the contacts database on the DS5 and removed and corrected any and all problem entries.
After all this the native Froyo 2.2.2 ('351) SMS application sometimes shows commas in a thread for a particular contact, for example, if the messages for contact entry "John Doe" with number "+1-800-555-1212' is being viewed, the SMS app shows "John Doe <,18005551212>"! If I attempt to just reply from within the thread, I will get an error indicating there was a problem with the number (due to the",")! So, if I want to reply to a "corrupted entry", I have to use the phone app's contacts feature to send a SMS and strangely when my message is sent, it automatically opens the SMS app with the correct name and number without the extraneous comma... If I then exit the thread to top-level listing of all messages, then re-enter the previously correct thread - the comma is now shown! It seems whatever database the SMS program uses is screwed up. By the way, I have even deleted a corrupted thread and when a new message is sent or received, the comma comes back!
Before I attempt a complete reinstall of everything and a re-sync with my Gmail contacts. (along with backed-up SMS, MMS & Call Log using the Market App "Backup to Gmail") , I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same problem and corrected it?
Thanks, in advance, for your all's help...
I receive text messages from an application at work. The number from the application is a 5-digit "Source ID". I put that 5-digit number in a contact called "WORK APP TEXT", and the text shows as being from that contact.
The problem. The system now sends from two different Source ID's. I added the 2nd number to the WORK APP TEXT contact, but I still get 2 different conversations in my messaging app. I tried to create 2 contacts (one with each of the numbers) and merge them. They both show in the text app with the merged contact name, but still 2 separate conversations.
The time the texts are received are critical as one will be the INITIAL and the second will be the RESOLVED and I really need to see them in one thread.
I'm frustrated I haven't been able to solve this. Please help!! Thanks.
