[REQ] AOSP ICS Email.apk - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys! I'm looking for a download of the AOSP ICS Email application to install as a replacement for HTC's mail app on my unrooted HTC Sensation. I tried searching XDA, but all I could find were flashable zips to fix the system app. I'm specifically looking for a regular APK that I can install without root. Anyone who can help me out?
Reason (optional reading): the ICS update that HTC pushed out contains an Exchange ActiveSync related bug that causes the phone to "forget" the sync shedule, and only plain text is supported. These things were working properly on Gingerbread, so how this got past QA is beyond me.

Here you go.
Make sure you delete the original email.apk and exchange.apk from system/app.
Place these two files in there with root explorer or similar.
Reboot. You may get some force closes (I do). Go to system menu and applications and delete data from email and exchange.
Open email and input your info.
Edit: You will need root to replace the files.

Oh well, I guess it was about time I rooted.
Thanks for the files, I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi
is there an 'official' website where we can download the latest version of the ICS AOSP email & exchange apk? and maybe also the other AOSP apk?
I'm looking for the version that will work with AWLPG
Thanks a lot
BenG

got it now

Enhanced email from the market is what you want if you do not want to root.

Does Enhanced Email solve the connection errors which came in with the ICS AOSP version?

I have a rooted Verizon SIII and it worked for me.
thank you.

Thanks !! I was looking for this since the Email.apk bundled in Galaxy S3 is atrocious ....

Stock (non touchwiz) 3.1 email app / apk?

Does anyone have the NON touchwiz email app and widget? I HATE the touchwiz look for this particular app and widget. I have searched but have been unable to find anywhere it has been posted. Thanks!

Think I might check this out, looks clean. However, are you required to install K9, or will the paid widget work with the stock email and gmail clients?
Has anyone found a way to revert back to the stock email app (Non- TW)
Thanks...
I completely agree! Do we know of anyone working on this? It hurts to use the Samsung version.. Will try k9
Working Solution
Hi Guys (and Ladies of course),
I extracted the stock HC 3.1 e-mail app out of the Acer Iconia Taboonay 1.1 custom rom.
And the best thing is that it is working on my GT-P7500.
Your tab needs to be rooted and the system partition must be mounted as R/W
I used ES File Explorer for the file operations. Any file manager which can get root access and mount the system partition as RW should do either.
Go to the directory /System/App and make a backup of following files (for your own safety):
email.apk
email.odex
exchange.apk
exchange.odex
After backing up you can delete them from /System/App or move them wherever you like
Now copy the files attached in this post to the /System/App directory, reboot your tab and enjoy the stock HC 3.1. email app (including the widget).

I had to clear data and cache for both Exchange Services and Email - but all worked nicely. Many thanks.
I'm on a Tab 8.9 WiFi, incidentally.
Would someone mind posting screenshots of the Samsung email app? I've read in a number of threads about how it sucks, but haven't seen and am curious. Thanks!

My camera is still working (10.1). I didn't touch the phone.apk (until now...), just the e-mail.apk and the exchange.apk

I found apk files, but I can't find odex files (I have rooted SGT 10.1 7500)?
Thanx
If you don`t find you might have a deodexed Rom -> you won`t find the odex files.
Imho you could try to proceed without the odex files - but at your own risk!

[Q] Restore origina calendar.apk

Hi,
I have a rooted Galaxy S2 - in a delete-fest I wiped the calendar.apk as I had another calendar (aCalendar) installed. I realise now that aCalendar seems to rely on the default calendar.apk for notifications and creating/editing events, etc.
I have a backup created with titanium backup but I can't figure out how to extract the original calendar apk from the .img files.
I can't find the original calendar.apk on the official samsung firmware download site.
Does anyone have any idea how I could recover the stock calendar.apk ?
Thanks!

Sorry, I was thinking of something else while typing that... I mean, I was unable to extract the calendar.apk from the stock firmware because unyaffs chokes on the factoryfs.img extracted from the stock firmware tar...
Thanks for the link by the way, but it goes to the calendarprovider.apk - I still have that one installed!
I actually need the calendar.apk and the calendar.odex
I managed to resolve this - I was able to extract the original APKs and ODEX files from the factoryfs.img file using the procedure described here:

Accidentally removed calendar app on rooted S2
Hi JJegan,
I've owned S2 for 5 days and I'm very new to Android.
Since I purchased Business Callendar I removed the one originally installed on S2.. (3 files: Calendar 1.0, 1.1 and Callendar application data)
before deletion I backed it up with Titanium...
After rebooting the business calendar didn't see any calendars so I tried to restore with Titanium and it failed...
After some internet browsing I downloaded the calendar.apk and tried to install it (using files explorer) but it is not working..
Do you know if there's a way to restore/reinstall the original S2 calendar app? I didn't know that this app i key to synch to google account for calendar items...
hour help would be greatly appreciated
cheers!

Hi, I have a similar problem with my LG L70 with Android 4.4.2. I have been using Jorte calendar for a long time but recently it started to give a message "The callendar has stopped". So I decided to try another calendars (aCalendar and SolCalendar) but during experimenting (I could not add a new event in any of those calendars) and googling information I realised that the problem lies deeper - in corrupted Calendar.apk or/and CalendarStorage.apk.
So I tried some methods of restoring those system apps and I had a partial success - I can add new events but the error message still appears (when working in a calendar or "randomly" in other appliccations). According the thread: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...-calendar-storage-google-calendar-not-working) I am afraid I have to do a factory reset. But it is a long time I rooted my phone so I do not remember if the factory reset will cancel rooting or not.
I would prefer avoiding factory reset but I am afraid I cannot. Can you give me an advice or a useful link please?

[Q] Contacts application from another phone... is it possible?

Hi to everybody,
I just bought a P500 and started to work on my own modification.
I already rooted the phone and installed a custom ROM (GB).
Before this one I got a Huawei Ideos 8150 (froyo); the contacts application of this phone provide native management of the contacts groups allowing to set ringtones, send group messages and so on.
As you know this functionality is missing in P500, so I would like to know if it's possibile to use the apks from my previous phone.
I already tried to simply install the ContactsProvider (I deleted the apks from the rom before installing it) using adb but I get this error:
INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE
I tried to follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111476
but after that when I launch phone or contact it says that the application is not installed....
Is there any way that I can make that contacts manager working on P500?
I know there are many other contacts manager on the market but this is not the question...
If I'm in the wrong section please move the thread in the right section.
Sorry for my bad english...
Thanks

[Q] Stock Messaging APK?

Does anyone have the stock Messaging APK handy? I'm a T-Mobile user and I want the verizon version because it allows group messaging. I know that all phones can send a group messsage, however, the replies all come as seperate texts. My friends have Verizon and have that option, so I would like to give it a shot.
Any help would be apperciated! :good:

Odexed or Deodexed?
EDIT: Here is a backup I made of the stock MMS apk. Should work fine.
com.android.mms.apk
If you have any issues, try resigning it with ZipSigner. If that doesn't work, you might have to do some modding.

You should be able to just put it on the memory card and click the file. It will start the installer.

You can try to install this file or place it in /system/app/ with Root Explorer. If you place it in the app folder put the .odex file there as well. This is all I could find related to messaging in my directories. I'll search some more for you though.

Cannot unfreeze stock email app

Hi XDAers,
I had disabled the stock email app when my Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 had Ice Cream Sandwich.
I upgraded my phone to official Samsung Jelly Bean while the app was disabled.
Now, I have to configure office exchange email and I want to use the stock email app rather 3rd party ones like Touchdown. But, now I can't enable it back
Looks like, Samsung won't let users disable the stock email app in Jelly Bean . In Settings-> Application Manager-> All-> Scroll to the end, it says disabled next to Email, when I click on it and get in, there is no enable button, but there is a disable button which is grayed out :crying:
I also tried some of the apps in the Google Play Store to unfreeze apps. It shows the email app to be frozen. But it requires to be root to unfreeze them.
Does anybody know how to unfreeze/re-enable the email app without the following: :fingers-crossed:
- rooting the phone
- factory reset of the phone

Reinstalling the apk would be the first thing I would try. How do you get it? Search for it. It won't necessarily have to be for an SII. As long as its a touchwiz JB email, it should work fine.
Edit: for the apk to work you'll need to check that your exchange services are version 5.0. I imagine they already are, as you're on JB, but check anyway.

Thank you. In order to install stock apps, do I need to be root. Or is it as simple as copying the apk to the downloads folder or anywhere else and running it?
Theoretically, yes you should be able to find the .apk and run it. As you already have a Samsung email application installed, that could affect things. Your best bet is to give it a go! If it doesn't work, post back and go from there
Edit: note that I'm not being harsh when I say to search for the app. If I had it, I'd link it for you. But I don't, so it may as well be you who does the searching

Thanks, I did some searching and found a few apks (not S II, I found S III) and when I clicked on the apk in My Files, it attempted to install and finally said "Application not installed". Is there any other way? Or is it because of incompatibilty?
