Why can't I post in the dev section? Do I have to be a member for a certain amount of time?

Need to have a certain number of posts. Check the forum rules

Apparently, XDA is trying their best to not appear like other forms where you have people register, ask a question, that already has a thread to - therefore the forum has the same thread ongoing. Which yes, I do see that as extremely annoying and is an interesting negating tool. But it does suck for those who generally more of an expert, or at least... more ambitious of searching for an answer? as opposed to waiting for an answer to come lol
So alas, this becomes my first post. I came aware of this when making a comment on another post you should have seen the video during registration (if you registered along time ago then check out this link)

Thanks guys

Yeah, I'm about to get flamed, sorry about it. After the treatment shown recently to developers and other established and respected XDA members, as well as the closing of GOOD threads, anybody else on board for a 100 post requirement for privileges to post or reply in all development forums?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
NO. I've already had reason to post in the Dev forum, and have not been able to due to not enough posts. IMO, it's pretty dumb.
I have no idea what you're talking about re: the treatment stated, however.
It'll just cause more bs in the general and less feedback to devs for their work too. Most of threads that get locked in there are not because of ppl that have low post counts. It's typically the ones with the higher counts that will do it...

That would lead to 10x more useless posts in the other sections (general, themes, etc.)

People... Think....
For one second get in the shoes of a moderator. In a site like xda which has far drifted from its original intents, everyone needs to understand that with the level of access people have today to technology and the lack of respect and good maners, it makes it very complicated to manage a site like this.
The job the moderators has is a tough one because they have to be the un-friendly people most of the time.
I don't personally agree with the 100 post for dev forum, but I do understand where they are coming from with this. Think for a second the amount of low level educated people and trolls that traffic this place? People that just like to follow their impulse and not the rules?
It's easy for us whom follow the rules to see it as a pain, but consider what had to happen in order for it to get to this place?
Let's give credits to the mods, their trying to maintain order in a city of chaos.

The 10 post thing is good for the noobs. So they don't put a question in the wrong section like a question about cases in the Dev section.
Nothing is wrong with it takes some time and reading but folks get the hang of it soon.
I wouldn't mind the 100 post thing, but not for ANY post, just specifically for creating new threads in that section.

Red5, can you stop acting like a preteen and delete the threads instead of just closing them? Whomever gave you mod power must have been drunk off his mind that day...

Closed threads serve as examples to others of how NOT to post.
Hence the reply bad thread is bad

Galnet discussion is banned here, and has been for a while - you should have known the thread would get locked as soon as Red5 saw it, I know you were around here when the galnet situation blew up.

It probably would have helped if Red5 had mentioned that Galnet discussion is banned here instead of just saying bad thread is bad. People new to the forum or new to MIUI might not know about it.
Now I know they can search but it doesnt come up with anything about the ban that I could find, at least on mobile.

Something funny going on everytime im in the general thread LOL
Seems like the more intelligent way to get Red5's attention would have been to send him a pm instead of opening yet another useless thread to get flamed in.

Sorry if there was confusion I was not aware we couldn't even discuss galnets rom. If that's the case then go ahead and delete the aosp hellraiser thread in development as well. I may as well move to china.

We Mod's have specific guidelines and rules to follow. We're supposed to close threads instead of deleting them because threads can be closed for a number of reasons and can be tracked easier if searched for (which nobody seems to do anymore). If we need to look at a track record of a member and look at the threads taht person has created, closed threads are easier to find than deleted ones. Also, if a thread is deleted, so are the posts and postcounts go down. Not something too earth shattering, but its still a reason.
tl;dr NO.
Thread closed.
I know there are alot of people new to xda on here and alot of new android users, however if you look in our general boards there are tons of topics that are being repeated. Please use search because odds are you question or concern might have come up or discussed already.
Im not trying to be rude or make people mad, but when you signed up its part of the rules.

This pointless thread clutters up the forum just as bad as someone who doesn't use the search function and posts something, there hasn't even been a problem of redundant threads in this forum (yet).
The phone has been out less than a week and we have like 4 or 5 tmobile threads, 4 visual voicemail, atleast 3 city id, i see a pattern coming on.

It's not so bad, and I guarantee this thread will change nothing. They never do.
Just trying to throw it out there, If 30 people search because they saw this instead of making a new thread thats 30 less everyone has to scroll though

I agree. This should probably be stickied, as it is quite difficult to follow a thread with so many new redundant ones being created. I may have at some point, but if the number of new redundant posts is reduced, it will be better for everybody.
That being said, a whole lot of the users here are completely new to android and XDA as a result, therefore they don't fully know the rules and will need to learn. Having this thread stickied would probably help that.
I can appreciate your intentions, but I guarantee you someone who was planning on opening a redundant thread is not going to open this thread first and have some mind-blowing epiphany about the metastasizing cancer of reckless thread starting without using the search feature and thus starting a thread about something that's been previously posted about.
Besides, the mods here would get bored.

this is honestly getting ridiculous, if you cannot figure this out, please at least TRY to do some research, and if doesn't make sense, research more, then ask in the Q&A/General forum.. seriously dude.. its stuff like this CONSTANTLY that is making XDA ridiculous.. I don't know how much more I can handle of this stuff.. its every 5 min someone does not read the rules understand the forums where to post, what to ask, how to do a SIMPLE search or even a google search.. :smh: ;-( PLEASE AT LEAST TRY.. please... did you watch the n00b video when you registered or did you just skip it???
edit: and I also wonder if a button similar the thanks button that can be implemented in XDA Forums but instead of "Thanks" a "Please try to search" and if other members hit the "Please try to search" on that particular post a certain number of times (maybe 3 - 5 ppl) then the user is no longer allowed to post in dev forum for 10 days. just a suggestion cause XDA is really going down the pooper lately.. I know I have less than 100 posts and I'm not DEV by any means, and my Join date is just a bit over a year ago (but I at least try all of the above first) so I don't come off as a total ____ maybe I'm overreacting after reading too many of these but maybe not.. you mod's can decide. /rant

I don't understand why people have to insult others when they ask a question. Yes I understand there is a search function, but instead of insulting others and claiming that they're ruining XDA, why can't you just point them to the right direction and not be a elistest prick?
All it takes is 1 person to say read the rules and search instead of OMGWTF use google/search! and oh BTW gtfo because you ruin XDA.

I don't really like the rules even tho im sure there is a reason. But for a romer like me whose been roming since droid A855 its rough. I never post because I usaully just read through the forum if I have a problem. But I finally had a question that nobody asked and I couldn't post because of the rules. I just wish maybe a questionnaire or something could be used to evaluate who is new to roming or if u just are new to XDA. This isn't a rant just post of clarification.

I have seen this brought up in the forums of the past 5 phones I have owned. That is over a 2.5 year period. I've never seen XDA even attempt to care to try this.
It was also discussed that you would have to past a questionnaire or test before you could post in the developer sections period. To many people post in the dev section when they shouldn't.
