walcman NWZ-B162F and sony tablet s - Sony Tablet S

hi guys
How can I Connect mp3 walcman NWZ-B162F to sony tablet s and control the files
bay sony tablet ??

You must confirm by yourself, there are few devices that works with the tablet, like cameras and ps3 controller for example, you must own a connection cable from sony " Micro USB a/b to normal USB " and then try it, the tablet might react and work with it,

For the record, I bought a cheap USB adapter instead of the Sony cable. It never worked with Honeycomb, but now every PnP device I've tried works fine with ICS.

[Q] USB Cable type for Sony Tablet - specific details

Hi everyone,
and thanks in advance for any help / advice that you may have for me.
I'll start off with my question, before I unload all of my information. I simply would like to know exactly what type of USB Connection the Sony Tablet has, and therefore, what specific USB Cable I need to buy in order to connect it to my PC running Vista.
I bought a Sony Tablet and have been surprised the lack of information in regards to the USB connectivity of the device. Specifically, the exact 'cable type' required to connect the device to a PC. Everywhere I have read so far, it simply says USB Micro, or USB 2.0 micro. But when I try use the micro USB cable that I currently use with my Xperia Play phone (which works fine for PC transfer with the phone) it's doesn't work at all with the Sony Tablet. It doesn't even register on the PC when I plug the cable into the tablet. Just nothing.
Since then, I have read a lot about USB, and found that there are different types, like 'Mini USB' versus 'Micro USB'. Apparently there is also Micro USB 'A' and Micro USB 'B'. And finally, apparently there is 4 pin micro usb and 5 pin micro usb type.
hope this all makes sense, many thanks guys.
Austab.
This tablet uses micro USB, I'm pretty sure the cable for your Xperia should work fine with the tablet. Perhaps you plugged it in upside down?
Thanks for the reply, I agree with your thought train. If it works with the Xperia, then surely it should work with tablet. I'll try it again after work today, and confirm. Is it actually possible to plug the cable in the wrong way around?
I'll kick myself if I did! Thanks again, cheers.
Austab.
It cannot be plugged in upside down, unless you use extreme force and break it.
***
But yeah, this cable *should work, if it works with your Xperia Play. In principle there is only one kind of micro-USB cable (well, actually it could have either regular type A *OR micro type A connector at one end, but let's keep it simple. Mini-USB is a different kind and A and B are just connector types.
See this picture with different USB connectors:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Types-usb_new.svg
Your cable should have a regular USB A connector (the one on the top left) at one end and micro-USB B connector at the other end (the one on the bottom right).
Yeah, it should work; I'm using the same USB cable that I use with my Xperia Arc.
For what it's worth, I've been having issues too. Mostly windows fails to find the drivers and install them. I've talked to multiple Sony reps and have tried multiple computers but haven't had any luck. Maybe it's a bad cable but I have had Windows detect the device...just unable to install the plug-n-play drivers.
Systems I've tried it on:
Custom built - Windows 7 with Service Pack 1
Dell - Windows XP Service Pack 3
Sony Vaio Laptop - Windows XP Service Pack 3
I had the same problem on both of tablet P and tablet S. I can tell you, its more about luck than the wrong cable type! At the end, it just works after retrying a few plugs and unplugs.
Hope they can get a fix for this soon.
Hey again guys, I've now tried the cable again with my Sony Tablet, and I'm definitely plugging it in correctly. There's no response whatsoever on the tablet or the PC once I've plugged the cable in.
When using the same cable on my Xperia play, the phone will instantly start charging once I plug the cable in to the PC. However, the PC doesn't actually recognize the phone as a device (i.e. it doesn't show up in windows explorer, or launch the Ericsson Phone Software, as it once did). It charges the phone, but doesn't talk to it, if that makes sense.
So it would seem that some Micro USB cables are good for charging only, but not for data transfer / PC recognition.
I'll buy a different cable tomorrow so will let you know if it works then.
Thanks again for all the replies guys I appreciate it.
cheers again,
Austab
Looks like the cable is faulty then and you have to try another one.
I bet one of data wires is broken, or a data contact inside connector is broken (worn down), because when you connect your Xperia Play it should also be recognized as a device.
Then again, maybe there is something wrong with your computer.
Can you try the same cable on another computer, and see if the device is recognized, before you buy a new cable. Or let them check the cable at the store to see if it really is faulty.
My understanding is you need an OTG USB cable, (On The Go) - this is what you need to connect USB keys and other hard-drives and so therefore I would think external PCs too.
I bought a nokia one for around 5 pounds from amazon, do a search for OTG USB cables,
thanks
Pratish
He wants to connect it to a computer, not connect external devices to it.
So he needs a regular micro-USB cable.
the cable is USB Host finde with this name
People, wtf are you talking?!
He *does not* need USB host (OTG) cable. That's for connecting USB devices, like keyboard, mouse, USB-storage etc., to your tablet.
He wants to connect his tablet to a computer. For that he needs a regular type A USB to type B micro-USB cable.
Hi,
Would seem like op had a charging cable, not data one. As stated, he need a regular data cable with appropriate connectors. OTG has nothing to do with it.

Hi Crazzzik,
so you're saying that there are micro usb cables for charging only, and then there are micro usb cables for data + charging etc? That would explain things perfectly for me, as my cable seems to work for charging devices, but not communicating with a PC (i.e. data transfer).
I'm getting a new cable today - sorted!
Many thanks everyone for your help & advice
Austab
Yes when I got the cable for my sony tablet s, I saw several usb cables that would fit the tablet, but on the package it said specifically "for charging only, not meant for data transfer", so they do make the cabkes just for charging, as a PC tech, I was a little embarrassed that I just found this out this weekend.
Thanks
I also got a microUSB-cable adapter, it works fine with usb driver / joypad and keyboard
but not sure if it's capable for connecting with PC or even for charging
hello all,
I recently bought the usb cable for the tablet they sell at the sony store. The micro usb to female normal usb ( I think you know what im talking about). It is sony tablet specific. The micro usb end of the cable is square instead of tappered at one side. it worked fantastic for plugging in and usb deviced to the tablet, but when I tried to plug it into my galaxy s, it wouldn't fit. just thought those thinking of buying one would appreciate the heads up so its not a shock if they try to use it on any other devices. Im sure you can find that same cable at any well stocked computer shop.
i borrowed a htc wildfire s cable, this works and installs drivers.

Sony tablet accesories working on the XS

I have a Sony tablet, and now I bought the Xperia S, and the USB cable and keyboard well perfect. With the USB cable you can connect a mouse, keyboard, etc. You can use a keyboard and a mouse simultaneously with a usb-hub. Also i tried a wireless keyboard logitech and works well too.
Hope this is helpfull for someone...
P.S. in sony tablet you can connect some HD with powersuplym and USB sticks, I haven´t try with XS.
Edit: working USB memory ( a way to expand the 32 gb).
Good to hear these additional gadgets are working!

[INFO]USB OTG on Mini/Mini Pro/Active/LWW

*This is only a reference/information thread for those who want to use OTG feature on our 2011 xperia phones, for your convenience.
(For that Sony Ericsson didn't tell you how to use that feature.)
Information for xperia mini, mini pro, LWW and Active.(since they share similar chipsets)
TESTED ON GB 2.3 Stock rom with wt19i.
1. USB OTG support is native on stock roms.
2. Almost every USB keyboard and mouse can be used with OTG.
3. Some special keys on the keyboard may NOT work(such as volume up/down buttons).
4. Key bindings may NOT work. e.g. Ctrl + C won't work in terminal apps such as connectbot or terminal emulator. Consider twice if you want to use keyboard for terminal.
5. To use USB flash drives, you have to use OTG helper from shardul_seth from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588979
6. (with OTG helper) USB drives will be mounted @ /sdcard/usb_stick_1/ (or something similar)
7. USB hubs CAN be used.
8. Portable hard-drives can be used although it needs external power source.
9. Using these USB devices with your phone can DEPLETE YOUR BATTERY rather quickly.
10. Pen tablets won't work. (Tested device: Wacom Banboo)
11. USB card readers might NOT work. (Some do, some don't. I tested a card reader with multiple slots(MS Pro, microSD, SD) and my wt19i failed to recognize it.)
12. USB flash drives larger than 16GB might NOT work. (As reported from Taiwanese forums.)
13. Some USB joysticks will work, some won't. (No drivers for Android
I will keep testing USB devices though. Thread will be updated in the future.
Attachment is my own wt19i with an USB keyboard.
Preserved for future use.

USB joystick work like a charm, I've tested a thurstmaster 8 button on my mini pro!
@paacoo Thank you. Information corrected now.
p.s. Tested that Playstation 3 controller wouldn't work
Other devices
Hello all
I have tried WD self powered 1Tb HDD the trick was to connect a hub with double USB cable, one to the phone and the other to a battery or usb charger, worked correctly, I think I can browse all the drive content.
Recently I bought a multi card reader branded as Manhattan that support SD, micro SD, MMC, etc.., plus 3 usbs and worked. I can read my SD/microsd and read/write files.
Also I tried wireless (RF) mouse/keyboard branded acktec and worked great.
If you are interested I can tell you the product number.
@edgar0204 Thanks for your reply. I think I'll start a list for unsupported devices then

@aznrogerazn: I"m sure in that Android compatible only with HID devices. I"m unsure in that PS3 controller is HID-based, but take a look here:
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/23634/Wired-PS3-Six-Axis-Controller-Using-USB-HID-as-Inp
@x.x.x.Peria The reason why Playstation 3 controller fails to work is that the phone cannot provide sufficient power supply. With proper programming and enough power, it is supposed to work. It can be used on the phone with bluetooth, however.

There are no hidden features on our phone.
USB OTG feature is known already on Live with Walkman, announced aswell on official white paper.
By default(and officially), OTG support exists only on LWW, but with certain workarounds, it is possible on other devices aswell.
Need UTG Cable
Hi guys, I'm from Indian where can i get utg cable over internet ?

Knowledge for homemade USB OTG cable http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092493
I don't found posts about atom bomb yet
I made a homemade USB OTG with the help of this tutorial, and works like a charm.
:highfive:
If I use an USB HUB with external power, it will work? My target is use an USB HUB with external power to supply energy for a mouse, a keyboard, a pen drive and my phone. Or just to reduce the battery consumption. I know HUB powered by USB works fine.
PS: with OTG cable, my homemade one: kingston pendrive 8GB works, lenovo mouse and keyboard works, leadership mouse and keyboard (with a nice number of special keys) works, Bright wireless mouse with usb adapter works, bluetooth usb dongle don't works (needs driver), and with a USB OTG cable you can recharge another phone haha. * I'm using ICS at St15i.
USB hubs with external power source is working as reported from Taiwanese forums. You can only use one flash drive on the hub at the moment though.

Interesting.
With powered hub, I connected a PS3 controller and reading the kernel log with dmesg, seems to be recognized and installed but don't works and starts to charge, without my phone at hub the controller don't charge. Other devices work normal, and the phone is not in charge mode :silly:.
If anyone have idea to tests, I think I can do for help.
Thanks for the thread aznrogerazn.
Can anyone confirm if this works on MiniCMSandwich Lite? I don't have an OTG cable but I'm gonna buy one if and only if, it's working. Gonna be a waste if it doesn't.
@GregyrioAxiaMagno PS3 controllers can be used on bluetooth mode. You can google the method if you like.

Thanks aznrogerazn, I have the Sixaxis app working good, is a nice app is it?
But, check this out, I have a nice news hahaha. I managed to work the PS3 controller by USB. So: I have a 7 ports powered hub, and it can be powered by usb also. I plugged my otg cable in Android and the cable at the HUB, then I plugged the power cable, after this, I connected the PS3 controller at HUB, the lights at the controller will blink if in charge mode or blink only once if the battery is full, and unintentionally, I hit the button with the PlayStation logo, and voilà: the controller works! I noticed what the touchscreen gets a strange behavior... I saw this same behavior when a friend used an non oficial usb cable to charge the xperia x8, an ordinary cable... like if the touchscreen got messy. But the controller and the rest works. So give a try, with a powered HUB and plug all, then hit the PS logo. I noticed also what the usb host mode can be disabled sometimes, is just restart the phone or plug a mouse or something to get work again.
I will make a video maybe or take some photos in another thread.
EDIT: The strange behavior of the touchscreen is caused by the power, I mean, when I connect the power cable. I think this happens because there is no filter of energy in the circuit. Maybe a high quality HUB solve the issue. The touch screen become normal again when the ordinary power cable got disconnected.
EDIT 2: About the crazy touch see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10206146&postcount=8. The power cable of the USB HUB is an ordinary 5V 1000mA, thats is the problem.
EDIT 3: I made a video but I won't open a new thread xP

[Q] Is The Magnetic Port Just For Charging?

So I've been thinking that when I get my Z2 I will be using it for gaming on the big screen in my lounge, especially as it supports the PS3 controller out of the box.
I was wondering if the magnetic port can also be used for Data/MHL? It's just that a magnetic dock would be a more elegant solution than having to fiddle with a flap and connect a USB/MHL cable to the device.
Is this just a pipe dream or do you think Sony might make one?

Yeah it's for charging only, you could always attempt screen mirroring though if you have a smart TV (I've yet to get it to work on our Samsung TV though).
I also have a Samsung TV. It's not smart (it is when turn on my Imito MX1 Android stick), but it does have a RJ45 connector on the back, might try connecting it up and see what happens It's a shame that the magnetic port is so limited.
it's not a shame ... it's just for charging and sony never wanted it to be more ... there are just two contacts ... so think yourself
it's a shame that every user / customer wants something special out of a really great and special device ... best camera, water resistance, full metal frame, nice design, really good headset with noise cancellation out of the box is not enough for you guys?! now sony have to put data connection into docking port and mybe a RJ45 Adapter for it so you can connect it to your oldschool TV ?! maybe sony will even write an alternative firmware for your samsung TV to detect the sony device?!
i'll give you an overview how your problem is supposed to be solved:
connect your Z2 with the docking station, connect your DualShock Controller wirelessly to your mobile ... and connect your mobile WIRELESSLY to your TV ... no need for any wire (exept charging) ... finished ...
and THIS is why sony will not have dataconnection on docking port .. because you can do everything without it ...
There are lots of apps for wirelessly accessing your phone storage, too, such as AirDroid.
I'm not complaining, I'm sure I will find a way to connect my Z2 to the television in a way that is satisfactory be that via Screen Mirroring, MHL 3.0 cable etc. (However playing games via mirroring over Wifi.. isn't there going to be some lag?).
Also if I want to output 4K to my new 4K TV (when I buy it) that would be impossible using Wifi.
I was only looking for an elegant solution and the magnetic docks would fit that. Hopefully Sony will make an MHL 3.0 dock that allows the Z2 to be placed in front of my TV (albeit after opening the port.. with the SIM card sticking out..)

Z Ultra - Sony PS3 Controller Not Connecting

Hey, Hope all dng great!!!.
I got a new Sony PS3 DualShock Controller which I am trying to connect to Sony Xperia Z Ultra (Having 4.4.4 version).
What I have:
1. Mini USB OTG Cable
2. Z Ultar Default charger cable (I doubt this cable may be the issue, but not sure)
Charger Cable I inserted in to Z ultra and other end I have inserted in to USB A female port and the mini usb male is in to PS3 controller.
Settings --->Xperia Connectivity -->DualShock Controller-->ConnectionStatus and BatteryStatus in Disabled mode
Settings --->Xperia Connectivity -->DualShock Controller-->How to Connect Controller Screen -- Next button is disabled.
Please see the attached IMAGE for more info.
Please help me to understand what could be the issue?
Thanks in advance,
Cdhar
I've had issues with otg and the ps3 controller. I suggest you buy a case, and a universal gameklip total is about 30 bucks. It's probably the otg cable. If you're rooted download the sixaxis app, connect controller and update master address. If it doesn't work there's no connection with the cable
You have to connect OTG cable to Z Ultra (male microUSB, female USB) and normal data/charging cable to Dualshock3 (male miniUSB, male USB).
Because what you did is bad.
It has to be in this order. (see attachment)
Don't make it hard for him.http://www.primuscable.com/store/p/...NAr8FptRg2bDMhfzZwpKqGzm1_aNlDmHvgaAhqV8P8HAQ
Just get that cable it's what I used. You can connect to your zu and ps3 controller and setup wireless play, that's all you need.
But how can you connect miniUSB to Xperia ??? You need OTG cable for mobile phone and cable to connect Dualshock to OTG ...
looks like this (sorry I had only old N8 and Rumblepad2 ...)

I attached photo of cable
Here you go to explain it's a cable that has ps3 Micro usb and on other end is Micro for Android. Once synced up your Xperia will detect it, follow instructions. Otg is outdated imo
Do not mistake micro for mini... even the cable in link you posted is mini-mini, not micro-mini

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I got the cable now but this time at least I can see the ps3 controller lights are blinking once I connect to z ultra. but there no luck still z ultra is showing disabled 'Connection Status' and Next buttons in Dulashock 3 wireless controller options in the phone.
Please help me to understand what other options I can try.
