Sgs2 allshare to smart tv - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone uses his sgs2 to stream video on Samsung smart TV?
The thing is , for the moment ,I don't have internet installed in my flat, but I can connect the phone with tv by using soft AP from tv menu (phone and tv make their own wifi network) so I can stream anything to my tv thru allshare, BUT when I am playing HD videos it is running for couple of seconds and then freezes for couple of seconds and so on.. I noticed that it is not related to the size of the file because I played videos hundreds of mbs in size with no problem but those were 320 per something dpi. Is this going to be a permanent problem even if I get the internet? Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I haven't seen that issue, but then again I haven't used the soft AP. My 55" 7000-series LED TV is connected to a wired Gigabit ethernet, and my i9100 is connected on 5 GHz 802.11n provided by a Netgear WNDR3800 router, also connected to the Gigabit network.

[Q] allshare question

Hello, first post here. Pretty new to the whole smartphone thing. Trying to get the allshare, specifically the screen share to work with my tv. I have an ethernet cord plugged into a samsung tv with allshare with the other end going into a wireless router. The phone and tv find each other and I can stream a movie without a problem. When I go down to the screen share option in the settings it says no device detected. I spoke with samsung a couple of times about it and they said the only way for that to work is with one of their wireless dongles. I find that hard to believe that I can stream movies but not share the screen but I'm also new at this so I was wondering if you had any insight. Thanks in advance
DLNA isn't made for screen sharing. It's just not...I've been using DLNA for a good while before I got a smartphone with that capability. It's really apples and oranges.
i don't understand why in the tv manual it would say that you could though. Just that my phone needs to have screen share on it. was hoping to browse the internet on my tv or play some emulators on it. has anyone else been able to do that with this phone?
ndavis, it seems you are thinking of the phone's tv out feature via 3.5 mm jack. You can't run emulators over DLNA.
i've been trying to figure out how to play videos on the phone (from my pc). the phone sees the videos, but when i try to stream them, it says "unsupported file format". I know that the file is supported because if i physically download it to my phone, it plays fine. Any ideas?

[Q] Look for WIFI DLNA to a Television

Please advice from your experience:
I search for a resonabely priced LED/LCD TV (32", 100hz full-hd, DLNA) supporing my SGS2's all-share, via wifi or wifi dongle.
Please recommend.
Which wifi USB dongle should be used with such a TV?
Which video formats are supported (via DLNA)?
Thanks

hi,
I have samsung 40C6820 in my home.
ITs connected with wire to my adsl modem and sgs2 via wifi.I am not using a wifi dongle and its working perfect.
I can play most of the video from phone on tv. It depends on your tv which video formats you can play.
Also there is a program samssung remote which you can control tv with sgs2 like a remote controller over wifi ie. from other room you can volume up or down. etc..
Thanks
Since the TVs in my home do not support DLNA; I did decide to go with the LG-ST600 Smart TV Upgrader (see: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/au...ries/lg-st600-smart-tv-upgrader-958975/review)
regards
I guess every TV with DLNA works. Mine Samsung 6700 (46" LED) is working perfectly - it's connected via cable to my home network. And if you buy a Samsung TV there is a remote control app available via the Samsung market -my girlfriend got a bit crazy when I played with it :-D

DLNA sharing to TV over 802.11n == meh

If your TV supports DLNA, as most modern smart TVs do, then you can stream video, music, and pictures off your phone directly to it. Go to "Settings > More settings > Nearby devices > File sharing" to toggle it on, then tell your TV to access it, and allow access on your phone.
I just tested this on my Samsung TV (connected to the LAN via GigE), and it works, but its playback of 1080p ....... BUFFERING ...... BUFFERING ....... BUFFERING ........ video over my fast 802.11N wireless is pretty crappy. Even putting my phone directly next to my NetGear WNDR3700 router (w/ddwrt) didn't help much. Attempting to view photos also took forever for an index to show up.
Anyone have a better experience?
(maybe if our phone's had an ethernet port it'd be better as my TV streams via DLNA from my GigE NAS without a hitch)

I think this was also covered in the SGS2 forum. If I remember correctly it was the same thing for video about audio was fine. So I don't know if DLNA can handle video properly from our phones (in general).
Supposedly if you have a PS3 you can stream it through allshare and it works. I haven't tried it yet myself but will give it a try soon.

Works perfectly for me with my cheap netgear dsl/router combined (To Google TV) It also does depend on the channel your router has, 2.4 or 5.0 (mine is connecting at 5.0) which can aide in the wireless speeds. There are quite a few variables but they can affect things negatively (even if you are close to the router.) Go to Wifi and check the link speed your phone is connected at, mine says 72. You can also go to Advanced and make sure your phone connects at the 5Ghz range. It might help.

I'm only ever connecting to 802.11n / WPA2-PSK (different password for 802.11g hasn't been entered yet, so no auto-fallback). Connected at 65Mbps atm, which is way more than sufficient to stream any HD bitrate.
I may have exagerated the ... BUFFFFFERING ... a bit, but it still is noticeable, especially when first starting up most streams. When it finally starts to play, though, it often won't BUFFER anymore.

MHL-HDMI+WiFi

I'm using SG2 MH- HDMI adapter to watch movies on TV and found that HDMI and WiFi don't work at same time, e.g if i watch movie and switch on wifi then hdmi disconnects and vice verse as well. I guess this behavior done because of high power consumption. But is it possible to do some workaround and force both features work in same time ?
The basic idea is to use shared folders on Linux PC and watch movies from them via Wifi instead preloading full movie to SG2 before watching.
Change in wifi router settings to channel 4
Do you mean use channel 4 on Wi-FI router where SG2 connected to ? Don't understand how router channel may depend from HDMI-Wifi on phone.
Yes.

Screen Casting From Android Is Now Live w/ Chromecast

You can now mirror your screen when using a Chromecast with the Note 3 running 4.4.2. Go into Settings >More Settings >Screen Mirroring to enable screen casting through your Chromecast. You can also cast directly from the Chromecast app if screen mirroring doesn't work.

I must be doing something wrong because I can't get it to cast...

Figured it out. Even though the app said it was updated today it was not the latest version. I side loaded the latest version and it works. It is too choppy though.

It's working fine through the Chomecast app for me. I haven't tried any games but everything else is smooth including 1080p videos that were recorded on my phone.
I can get it to mirror my screen through the Chromecast (not through settings) but I get no sound. How do I get sound.
Note: My chromecast is plugged into my Onkyo receiver, does that make a difference?

Probably so. I have screen mirroring working thru the Chromecast app as well and it does audio just fine. Might be something going on with that receiver. Can you remove it and try just a direct connect to the Chromecast on the TV? Haven't tried thru the Settings way.

Turns out that power cycling the Chromecast solved the problem. I now get sound.
Reboot of Chomecast worked for me to get sound working. Also games look great!
I see no option to Mirror in the Chromecast app. It says I have the latest version.

Be cautious with games. My phone shut down several services and a warning screen appeared stating my phone was too hot.
Does that mirroring work directly from chromecast to phone or do you still need a wifi network to connect them both to?

You still need to use Wi-Fi.
I'm on Android 4.3, Beanstown build 6, so I can't screen cast Is there an update path I can take (possibly new ROM) that will get me 4.4 and the ability to use this new feature? (I have Chromecast app ver 1.7.4)
Could people who have it working SMOOTHLY (to me not smoothly = not working) at 1080p please post the wifi setup they are using? (Router/AP model and 2.4 or 5ghz, is it in the same room, other devices connected, port forwarding or QoS or other router config, or anything else noteworthy)
I haven't touched my chromecast in 3 months because it basically didn't work for anything I wanted to do (main thing is playing photos/videos shot with camera on a bigger screen). Back then I was using a wired router and a Asus EAN66 as wifi AP (box-claim speed of 450 mbps) sitting within 10 feet of both phone and TV/Chromecast in the same room but it was horrible - I was lucky to get maybe 20 seconds of smooth video max. Then it would crash. Much faster to transfer files to computer via usb3 or sdcard then play on TV. Similar story on a Linksys E1000 but I forget which was worse.
True smooth 1080p screen mirroring... that would be nice. Truly something that would wow people. I now have Netgear R7000 (model name "Overkill") and it's 5 feet from the TV so it really better work now! I'll report tomorrow when I can mess with it.
I had it working smoothly. First I had to update to most recent chromecast app from google play in US, then once I tried screen mirroring option in the app, it would connect to my chromecast but show nothing. After doing this the chromecast then wanted to reboot and update itself to a later software build. While it rebooted rebooted note 3 and laoded up the chromecast app, option was there to mirror to tv so I chose it and it worked flawlessly and smooth even playing games. I was using stock android TW 4.4.2 and played trials frontier. I have a netgear WNDR 3700 V1 router using 54g (2.4) to connect phone and chromecast to. The tv was like 1ms behind what was displayed on phone but still worked flawlessly. I had my phone power saving mode on and cpu power saving checked. Even with this power saving it worked great for web browsing, videos, and games. Phone did get hot and battery drained quickly! I also use WPA 2 encryption and security!

I was running CleanRom with 4.3, and swithched to BajaRom so I could use my chromecast screenmirroring. Baja is 4.4.2 snd it worked flawlessly. Problem for me is, I dont like Baja. Im gonna go back to CleanRom 4.3 jellybean. The trade just isnt worth it for me.
Hope that helps ya.
