[Q] Universal Music Syncing? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

need a way to sync/listen to music to 2 Android devices and multiple PCs and trying to get the following functions:
1.) Ability to upload all songs to cloud
2.) Ability to listen to everything in the cloud or set some as "Offline" on mobile devices and laptops
3.) Ability to create playlists that stay synced( meaning if I add or remove a song on mobile it shows on desktop, all changes synced everywhere )
4.) Ability to rate songs from 1 - 5 ( much like iTunes, MediaMonkey, etc... )
5.) And this is the big one! The ability to create Smart Playlists like on iTunes based on Ratings that stay synced everywhere( Changing rating on mobile changes everywhere )
I think I've found all of the above in most services except 4 and 5. I cannot find a service that allows detailed ratings( 1 - 5, not Google Music's thumb up or down( how useless is that ) ) and also couldn't find smart playlist functionality anywhere.
I need ratings and smart playlists, and the only other option I can think of is moving my music to Dropbox, installing Media Monkey so it looks at Dropbox for ratings and smart playlists( or views, whatever they call it ). But this leaves me out of luck on mobile devices.
Anyone have a good solution to the requirements above? Grooveshark or Spotify looked like they'd be great, hell, I'd love to use Google Music but it doesn't have the rating / playlist stuff, non of them do, well not smart playlists anyways.

I'm also looking for something similar, though it seems like a pipe dream. But you may be happy to know google music does have 5 star ratings now, you need to enable it through the labs settings.

5 Star ratings in Google Music is a nice start Now they just need smart playlists, and possible 2 way syncing between local and cloud music and playlists( although I don't see that happening ever lol )
Thanks for the info.

[Q] Android must have and need to know.

Just getting started with in the world of android. For the last 5 years I have been using WinMo and loved it but don't care for the new Win Phone. So I came this direction.
Just looking to see what peoples must have apps and tools are. I don't really use my phone for games. Mostly web browsing, light social networking (but hate it being an infestation through out my phone), tools for day to day life with networking and Audio/Video presentations and entertainment.
I have read a bunch of other areas on here, just thought I would ask the people using my same device.
Also wondering about the security apps. I have read alot of different opinions on where to use them or not.
But I do like the idea of blocking some apps from getting to things like phone ID contacts and things like that where it makes sense.
I use plume for twitter. Customizable skin, keeps your place pretty well across multiple devices (phone and kindle fire for me).
I use vplayer for playing avi videos. Apparently it doesn't handle 720p videos the best, but I don't tend to download those anyways. I've heard MKV player plays those best.
I use plex media app to stream videos from my pc. With their new myplex, setup is much easier than it used to be.
Sling mobile was working well until my slingplayer died.

I've installed a couple of security apps, always uninstall them. Not doing anything that exciting on my phone and always install apps from secure sources.
Easy Profile Switcher - Setup profiles to increase battery life and automatically change settings (Ringer, WiFi, Bluetooth, ect.) based on Location or time.
Dolphin Browser-fast with lots of useful addons
Angrybirds - Good game to pass time on train to work ect.
ES File Explorer - Like Total Commander on WinMo6.5
Wol Wake on Lan Wan - Sends Magic Packets to wake a computer even over net.
Subsonic Music Streamer - Stream from PC across the web, also video, tweakable.
Zumocast - Not in VZ's Market, Stream Music and some vids from PC, easy setup.
Team Viewer for Remote Control - Client to remote control a PC with TeamViewer server, easy setup.
TITANIUM BACKUP PRO - Backup almost every aspect of your phone, needs root.
Dood's Music Streamer - Free GrooveShark Client, no Grooveshark registration req.
Netflix - Streaming Netflix, HD not supported on Rezound yet.
My Verizon - Bloatware app that gives you account / usage details.
Amazon Mobile - Amazon.com shopping made easy on a mobile phone.
GotYa! Face Trap - takes pic of anyone trying to unlock your phone, emails pic /w GPS Map Location.
Lookout Security and Antivirus - Virus and Malware protection, Remote phone lock, GPS locator, Remotely ring phone even with ringer off, remotely disable phone.
If this was helpful hit the Thanks
Good list... Gave me a couple new apps to try out.

Great list I have found a few and sounds like a great few more to try out. I am running Scotts Clean rom1.2 and love it and found a few of those in there.
I'm sticking with Temp Root for the time. I've had some issues with my audio jack and may need replacement.
The Wake on Lan app is simple but it will take propper configuration of your router if you want to use it over the net. I'm using dd-wrt flashed on my router you can also use tomato or other 3rd party firmware to get the setup.
The wake on lan app lets me keep my pc asleep until I need it for streaming and such.
I not ready to put my stuff in the cloud yet, and I'm trying to cut my carbon footprint down. Subsonic can be configured to transcode audio/video to lower bitrates to make streaming from home easier. I have 5Mb upload and I had no problems streaming vids of reasonable quality.
I'm also using WiFi Tether, root required.

Kies or Double Twist?

for those of you who're experienced with Android, which do you prefer?
what are the pro's & con's of each?
tx for any insight
I either drag and drop files or use Google music

Yeah, Apple has everyone convinced that 'Syncing' your device is the best/only method to transfer your content.
Just plug your device in via usb and mount it's USB storage, drag and drop the files you want.
Isn't Double Twist for Mac only?
Kies is probably worst piece of software ever written by Samsung (very unstable and buggy). You only need Kies if you want to sync contacts with your PC's Outlook or upgrade firmware when OTA is not available.
Put all your contacts to the cloud (Gmail or Hotmail). And you don't ever need any of these software installed.
To sync pictures and videos, the phone should have MTP support on USB already. If you have a Windows Vista or later OS, it is natively supported protocol. No software install needed.
No doubletwist is for pc too

The best part about both of them is the wireless syncing which can be really nice especially with Double Twist that will let you setup an automatic wireless sync overnight. That being said, they both they have their fair share of problems.
Personally, I seriously dislike Double Twist's music player. I don't know what it is, but it's just not very attractive and the sorting options are just meh. Kies can be pretty buggy. The main thing I like about Kies is being able to send and respond to texts from my desktop throughout the day.
I've been really digging Google Music if you're just looking for Music sync. The only issue with the autosync feature for iTunes is that it can have trouble removing music from Google Music if you remove it from iTunes and a lot of the time results in double duty (removing from iTunes and Google Music).
Since I got my new laptop I have completely done away with apple products. I hate itunes, as it needs an update seemingly every time I used it in the past, and is no better than other music players. The only thing I would want itunes for is buying music, but if I buy music it's in cd form anyways.
Yes, syncing is somewhat useful in the sense that you don't need to touch anything, but also completely unnecessary and slow. Drag and drop files into windows media player, then use the Google music tool to automatically sync up to 20,000 songs for free to the cloud. Dragging and dropping is much more controllable too.
As for documents, drag and drop works great, and if you don't want to use cords, use google docs or dropbox to access your docs wirelessly.
What does everyone use for podcasts? I use iTunes to dl and sort by release date in a smart playlist. Coming from an iPhone, I have no idea what to use that will allow me to continue where it left off.

I only listen to podcasts on my phone - never from the computer so
Google Listen (LINK) works okay and is free
DoggCatcher (LINK) works really well and is worth the $4.99 if your a serious listener.

I use Google Listen app to subscribe to the podcasts and download on the phone directly. No computers required. I rarely connect phone the PC (only do so when need firmware update and/or rooting). Google Listen syncs subscription list with Google Reader.
Hey All,
Just bringing our software "iSyncr" into the conversation. You can sync over USB or WiFi from a PC or Mac (with iTunes) to a Samsung Note. If you are going to keep using iTunes, you should consider it, as you can keep all your ratings, play counts and even podcast bookmarks in sync with iTunes and Android.

Yea i keep returning to isyncr (wifi).
Hard to say why but I don't like doubletwist on my imac.

[Q] What app(s)/method(s) should I use for syncing music across many devices?

I want to thank anyone who answers this in advance. I am usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out but at this point my head is spinning.
I just bought and Asus 300 tablet for house use. I mainly bought this for our 4 year old for learning apps and entertainment. I then realized that I have her music on a bunch of other devices so I figured that now would be a good time to get everything synced up with one another. I am mainly concerned about the music aspect of syncing and if an app(s)/method(s) included other things like pictures and videos I would not be opposed. The main devices I want to sync are as follows:
2 galaxy s3’s
2 older Android phones that will be used as media (music devices like an ipod) which are a Epic 4G and a Evo
1 Asus Transformer 300
2 computers running Vista and Windows 8
And maybe if it wasn’t a problem an XP desktop, an XP laptop, and an Ipod nano.
The nano is not a big concern since I know how Apple is about sharing and I could just take most of my music to another system/use another method. I have looked into Amazons Cloud Player and have heard about some other Apps like Double Twist but I am still a little lost. I am basically looking for something that is more or less fully automated (or pretty close to it).
Thanks in advance,
Jeffrey
I would also like syncing of playlists, I can't believe I forgot to mention that. It would be great to have the ability to have a playlist in a playlist or something like that.
Example:
Mia's music playlist"s"
...Mia's sleep music playlist
......song 1
......song 2 etc.
...Mia's fun music playlist
......song 1
......song 2 etc
mods....should this topic be moved or something?
i'm not sure if there's a definite app that syncs your music library from 1 android to another, but you can downloa sugasync or dropbox and sync everything

It is fine if everything is on my main laptop and then synced to the other devices. Thanks for responding.

[Q] Zune-like wireless audio sync program that works with Android?

I just moved from Windows Phone 7.5 to Android (Nexus 4 / Jelly Bean), and have a lot of (non-DRM) music properly organized in Zune, complete with like/dislike tagging and auto-playlists. I am new to Android, so bear with me if this is a n00b question.
I am looking for something that is very close to Zune in functionality for wireless sync'ing audio from Windows 7 to Android. My most basic requirements are:
1) Be able to wirelessly sync any playlist, auto-playlist (i.e. playlist that is auto-populated based on criteria such as year, like/dislike rating, etc)
2) Be able to remove song that are given dis-like or low rating for a song from Android
3) If the app has a way to import the like/dislike ratings from Zune, that will be a *huge* bonus
4) Preferably free/ad-supported app, but not a hard requirement.
Thanks in advance..

Thanks. However, I am not looking for something that sync's with the cloud, but something that sync's with my home computer while I am home. I constantly download new music all the time and don't want to keep sync'ing them with the cloud. I am looking for something similar to Poweramp pro or Winamp, but has the above features..
Maybe Airdroid would be what your looking for
Tried air droid.. But it does not auto sync - I have to manually add files to sync..

Thanks. had already checked WinAmp. It does not have the ability to create self-updating playlists based on criteria (example all songs with rating > 4-star).. It only has something similar to smart-dj which finds similar songs based on a seed song you provide (kinda like pandora).
Tried doubletwist as well.. but that does not have AutoPlaylist either ...
Anyone used iSyncr (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrtstudio.iSyncr&feature=more_from_developer)? That looks promising.. there is a one-time hit of configuring iTunes properly (It does not see the ratings I set in zune for each song for some reason.. all other apps are able to see it properly)... but looks like exactly what I may want.. before i drop $4 I wanted to check if anyone here used it?
Update: I tried iSyncr lite for few days and combined with their own "Rocket Player" this exactly the solution I was looking for! Converting ratings from Zune to iTunes was done using a free program called "MP3 rating friend" (google it). Additionally, my wife wants to buy an iPhone so now that my music and ratings are syncing back into iTunes it will make things simpler there.
The Lite version of iSyncr have several limitations but the biggest one is that a max of 20 songs per playlist are sync'd... so I will be dropping $4 to buy this app. The free version of rocket player is adequate for my needs (if not, I can always use doubletwist as the music player).
Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread.

Spotify app?

What I would like to have is a nice Spotify app for the Gear Fit.
The media manager doesnt show which song is playing etc. It works for the songs played from the media player on the phone ofc but not as well with Spotify.
What i would like to be able to do:
Chose Playlist
Add songs to favourites / other playlists
See an icon with the artist like on spotify (maybe as background for the app/clock while music is playing?)
(Being able to search for music maybe isnt needed , it would be to bothersome, better pick up the phone)
Also i have a qustion about the built in memory in the Gear Fit , would it be possible to create an app which would make it possible to use the watch as a standalone medie device? like if youre going to work and dont want to bring your phone with you.
Ex: Download a spotify playlist and play it from the watch directly to bluetooth speakers or something
The real question would be how much memory the Gear Fit has , and if we can access it.
Best Regards / Christoffer
P.S If you are experienced in programming these apps, please be so kind a send me a mail , would like to learn how to make my own apps for this watch and maybe could be of help if needed Do have earlier programming experience, third year computer science engineer.

This is fairly much the only thing that i feel is missing from my gear fit. I would be willing to help out if you need or send you some cash to help finish it.
