Hi All,
Thinking of getting this phone to replace old android one....
I'm reading about the Chevron dev unlock expiring?
I would like a non-expiring/permanent dev unlock, does it exist?
I will be getting a sim unlocked phone anyway, but would like to sideload some of the tools & tweaks I've seen.
Thx..
Al.

Currently two dev unlcoks are available:
DreamSpark student account - FREE, your institute needs to be a part of the program, most of them are if you have PCs.
App Hub account - $99 per year.
If you buy Titan, these are the only options. For Gen1 phones like Samsung Focus, there are other ways.

Hi folks,
I'm after getting my Wife an Android phone and I've been looking at a few that are sim-locked (T-Mobile G1, Hero Orange etc.). I'm pretty confident with regards to rooting and updating/changing ROM's, would that process essentially render the phone generic?
For example if I took a T-Mobile G1 and rooted it and added cyanogen's ROM would that make it T-Mobile free?
Sorry if this has been asked before, I had a search and came up empty so decided to post.
Cheers,

Replacing a stock ROM with a modded ROM will not remove a sim lock.
Just an FYI (since this is a Hero forum), installing Cyanogens ROM onto a G1 would be fine, but you should not try this with a G2 Touch (Hero) as you'll likely brick your device. If you get a Hero, some good advice would be to only look at the ROMs linked in the Hero forums - many of the ROMs for the G1/Magic use parts of Hero and thus have "Hero" in the title but they will not work on a real Hero.

Dave
Thanks for the reply mate. With the simlock on these devices, is it just a case of inputting a code like with the old dumbphones?
not on orange ones they are cid locked
Cheers mate.
Managed to get her an unlocked G1 which she loves. Not a bad deal, paid £120 for it on eBay - it's immaculate and includes all manner of bits and pieces.
Hey Guys,
I recently got a HTC HD2 as a gift from a friend. I am loving this phone - such a huge screen (I used iPhone 4 recently and it seemed so small then), amazing touch sense and overall experience.
I have been browsing the XDA forums for quite some time. I have few issues/queries that I want to get cleared up:
1. My HTC is locked to T-mobile, USA and I am in Canada. I have been unsuccessful in getting it unlocked. I contacted couple of shops who claimed to unlock it through the code but cudn't get the code. Anybody has any idea why is it hard to get HTC HD2 unlock code? I read somewhere that my IMEI number belongs to the new T-mobile series. Cud that be a problem? What do you guys suggest on getting my phone unlocked? One of the shops told me that they might have to flash the ROM but I don't know what that means....which brings to us to my next question...
2. What does "Flashing the ROM" means? It is about rewiring the ROM? I heard there are custom ROMs. What are custom ROMs? I need to figure out this ROM stuff. I know what is a ROM....I just want to know how this thing and different jargons work wrt Mobile phones.
3. Is there is any benefit of running Andriod (Froyo) on my mobile? I would love to have Andriod since WinMo has forced me to reset the phone more than I have resetted my previous smartphones per year. But, I think Andriod is still in development mode. What are your views on this issue?
I am going to browse the forums more and try to be active here. I hope these queries are a good point to start here.
Thanks in advance.

LMAO! commical how uninformed supposed phone technicians are, , ,no, flashing will have no effect at all on sim lock.
but I don't know what that means....which brings to us to my next question...

think of the windows cd rom, , you put it into a blank computer, and it installs itself, , well a rom is kinda like that. A big file that, when you hard reset (or immediately after a flash) installs itself, complete with all included software, onto your phone. If you flash a new rom, its like using a different windows cd. 'chefs' can 'cook' roms, , get rid of operator added rubbish, add tweaks and programs, etc etc.

Right, never owned a windows mobile in my life, Im an android person, but Ive just bought a nokia lumia 800. The phone is a few months old but its in decent condition for its age. What can i do with this phone OR do to it (without screwing it up). I know the lumia 710 can be jailbroken (hate that terminology, jailbreaking is for ios devices). can the same be acheived with the lumia 800?? I guess i should do a search. Easy to do or a ball ache? Im still going to stick with my htc sensation but its handy to know this stuff and where better place to find the experts than on xda forums :highfive:
Any help and advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance

hi nice to see another lumia fan well it goes somthing like this
if your lumia has a qualcomm bootloader your free to install the custom rom in the dev thread on here but as i have found your phone might be on 7.35.0.0 and come up as qualcomm device but if you dont have access to the nand (in windows it would come up as a flash disc) then your pretty much stuck with stock roms and stock apps untill the dload bootloader is cracked. have a read in the dev forum there quite bit of info to get you started

Yes, no better mobile phone operating system in my book. I couldnt turn down the chance of the lumia because it was cheap. And a change is as good as a rest so the saying goes

Tip for when you need the phone to last longer (like weekend visits etc.)
Sync and mobile data is a huge battey drain. Disable mobile data and it the phone will last for days.
My advice is go slow..
With Android, most of the stock google applications like gmail were garbage so you had to go to the marketplace to find better versions.
Also, you have to root Android phones to get rid of crapware installed by carriers.
With WP7 and the Lumia..
Like iPhone, all the stock applications are excellent quality. The Mail program for instance is second to none; I don't even have any supplemental programs to it..
Also, while the Lumia will come with carrier crapware, you have probably already found out you can simply longpress and delete these with out jailbreaking or rooting. I understand this was a rule Microsoft imposed on all carrier programs to create another selling point for WP7..
So the only reason you would need to unlock would be to install homebrew applications, custom roms, or simply dicker around with the phone. All of which are fun to do but unnecessary.
In short, I found with Android (I had a Samsung Vibrant), you HAVE to unlock and Root just to have a good quality system. With WP7, you don't - the phone is good out of the gate and you only need to Root & jailbreak to do some higher level experimenting.
Good luck - hope you enjoy the phone!
What should I do?

Hello,
I have some carrier crapware into my Lumia 800 - it doesn`t let me to use another SIM card but the provider`s (it`s locked on Bouygues Telecom - France) And I was wondering if a NOOB`s guide to interop unlock my phone exists. Thanks.
Android convert
My first visit to the lumia 800 forums and I am in the same boat as the op.
I've been an android fanboy for several years (htc desire, samsung galaxy s, htc sensation, htc one x, acer iconica a500) and have found myself obsessed to the point of addiction. Yesterday, I bit the bullitt, put my one x on e-bay and ordered a network un-locked lumia 800 to be delivered today.
I would like advice on how to unlock the full potential of my device and will be reading this forum very carefully before I do anything risky but, before I start, could somebody possibly advise as to wether there is anything that is important to address before and during my initial set-up?
Hopefully I will not become too obsessed with my new venture and any informed advice would be much appreciated to a windows phone noob
ps Had a windows mobile 6.5 device a few years ago
Ive left the Lumia 800 as it is. I wanted to jailbreak it as I wanted to install a specific gps app, which I have on my androids but do you know what?? Nokia Drive is really really very good imo. Im happy with it as it is. The interface took me some getting used to though but thats just me. I will probably end up jailbreaking it in the end as this is what Im like, but for now, its ace

First few hours on the device and loving it. Couldn't sync google contacts which was really bothering me but did an update whilst searching for a solution and the update had solved the problem!
Would love to 'jailbreak' it (like to mess) but, rightly or wrongly, I am getting the impression that it's not possible on this. Any ideas how to do this? Is it like root access.
It's all very different to android but makes a great change so I think I'll be staying with this little beauty for some time.
Just bought a prepaid T-MOBILE variant ZTE Zinger, running Android version 4.4.2. Is there anyone who can show me what to do?

There is no known root exploit working on the Z667T yet.
Someone needs to go through all the modstring variants on towelroot for it but if the rom build was made after June 3rd it will never work.
Other thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/-t2936545
Where would be the best section to post so a dev would see this? I'm sure we can get a bounty going.
First ask for a ZTE Zinger forum, ask on the new devices page there you post a request for a new device, I will also post a request for a new device, I really am surprised at how well the ZINGER works for how cheap it is, Target is having a black Friday sale for 9.99 on the phone, but it's locked to brightwater or some off mobile company. If we could get some devs to unlock it, it's a very good dual core 1.2 ghz and I bet it could be overclocked if we get it rooted, there is a funny screen you can get to by pressing up and power menu might be a,boot loader or exploit we can get in there, or the recovery is volume down and power. It has developers and sub debugging so with some help I bet we could see it rooted and unlocked
I just got one with a coupon for 8$... I got it unlocked by generating the code via IMEI... however I can't root this damn thing.
All the exploits I've tried fail. If anyone would like to try some remote rooting/dumping I can setup an ADB SSH server.
These devices are dual core and QUICK so it would be a waste not to have root. Even the stupid cheap Net10 LGL androids have root.
Thanks
How do we get some devs interested? We already have a bounty going in the other thread. I don't have any I'm not using, if I can find another for $10 I'd gladly send it to someone with the skill to try and root it.
" I just got one with a coupon for 8$... I got it unlocked by generating the code via IMEI... however I can't root this damn thing. "
How did you swing that deal?
I need root for this too Z667T
Just got this little phone and I like it. Very impressed, when was it released??
this is the only info I've found on any of the forums regarding rooting it.
Power + Vol UP = recovery <---it allows an adb sideload update process. Kinda neat.
Power + Vol Down = some sort of firmware thing??? Screen says "FTM"

How did you unlock "by generating the code via IMEI"?
I love this little phone but I don't think any dev wants to touch it.
It's sad because I remember owning the TMobile Comet (Huawei U8250?) and it came with Froyo and it was put on CM version of ICS.
Ah well.
At least it's stock Kitkat (give or take that stupid Amazon app.)

Why do you say that?
I don't know. I've been around the block a time or two, I've seen unexpected suprises with low-end devices getting a lot of support from the great devs out there. I've seen some high end devices not get touched ever, ie The LG Revolution.
Just a bad feeling I guess. Perhaps I'm jumping the gun because this phone is still so new.
IT seems it's always my luck that when I get a phone, something is always in the way....in this case I read that ZTE has tried something new and locked it down so tight as to make it difficult if not impossible to get past the bootloader (?) to get to the nitty gritty. No know methods work...I've tried them all (along with folks at other forums.)
Patience I must have now.
From what I've read from other owners is that the phone as it is is wonderful. Vanilla (almost) Kitkat...but root could give us the opportunity to get Xposed involved in improving it overall....not tot mention a shot at a CM build in the future.
As I posted here, our best bet in the short term until a real developer shows up is to get ahold of the at&t version of this phone which is physically identical but has Android 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gen...ndroid-gsm-t2936545/post57227556#post57227556
that at&t 4.3 version hopefully will be rootable and then the firmware can be backed up and then flashed to these phones
it would be downgrade from kitkat to jellybean until a new root method for kitkat is found but I would happily give up 4.4 for 4.3 temporarily to get real control over the phone
I'm just trying to find the at&t version for less than $50 somewhere, it doesn't appear to be sold in stores, only online at at&t and cricket (at&t owns cricket)
developer volunteering to help root, someone needs to step up asap:

I have one of this too. It isn't a quick. 1.2 Ghz is slow. I only have it as a back up. It's really a piece of **** phone. But for $40 with no contract it's worth it. I'll be messing with breaking the security tonight.
Please keep is updated.

Hi Guys,
I've been here a while and don't post much, but use the forum for info etc, and its a great source of information.
I have acquired a Mate 10 pro with a damaged screen - initially I was asked if I could put a new screen in it, but my work colleague has decided to buy a new phone and has basically given the phone to me.
My plan initially was to maybe sell it or repair it and then sell it, but I have discovered that you can rebrand these via FH to a dual sim, which is essential for me as I currently have a OnePlus 3 with dual sim.
My question is - I have contacted FH to ask if it is definitely possible on this Huawei and they have asked only if I have the unlock code - which I assume they mean the bootloader unlock code.
Its my first experience of all things Huawei and so I guess I would like to know how easy or difficult this is - not just in terms of the process as I have quite a bit of experience with flashing ROM's etc, but finding the info to unlock the bootloader (as I have read that this can sometimes be difficult), and FH haven't answered my question in terms of how many credits etc I will need to pay to do the full conversion from single to dual sim.
Many thanks in advance.

I assume thats a No then.
I did see that bootloader codes were hard to find, but I wondered if there was another way as its my first Huawei experience.
