I followed the guide there to root the Lifetab (I even used a 32-bit version of Ubuntu), but it is now stuck in APX mode and I can't do anything with it. It can still be recognized by the terminal in Ubuntu, all the scripts work, but Nvflash comes up with an error saying that the bootloader cannot be downloaded.
Taking a second look at the information that the test.sh script brings up, shows that Nvflash says "permission denied" when trying to run. Everything else is fine. The above guide doesn't really detail what to do if you get stuck in APX mode, and all it says is you can get out of it if you rewrite the bootloader... but how do I do that?
I've been up all night trying to read German and broken English to try to fix this.

Hi there! Sorry, I only noticed this thread today. Hope you resolved your problem by now, if not I will help you out. Been in the same situation numeous times, panicky and angry and all.
So here is what you do.
1. First download this recovery folder by SattNEK: http://www.mediafire.com/download/v003333ytbqj4kn/recovery.zip
2. Extract it in Linux
3. point your terminal to the folder
4. make sure your LT is charged
5. put LT it in APX mode (hold down power button for a few moments)
6. with "lsusb" command check that your LT gets recognized, if not repeat step 5
7. write these two lines in terminal:
sudo ./nvflash -r --download 6 recovery.img
sudo ./nvflash -r --download 7 boot.img
Click to collapse
Don't worry if it gets stuck, close the terminal and write in the other line, just be sure LT is USB-recognized.
8.then write this:
sudo ./nvflash --bct flash.bct --bl bootloader.bin --download 4 bootloader.bin –go
Click to collapse
9. LT should reboot normally.
I hope it works, you probably can't make it any worse than it is.

Hi, I was stuck with the same problem with my LT.
The procedure worked but now I'm stuck in a bootloop. May be a different problem though.
Did you try a chmod?

If you on XDA forums then you are most probably moding your device, which means you will def. brick your device atleast once.
So I suggest that everyone setup nvFlash, instead of stressing for hours after there first brick.
You can find the full guide on how to setup nvFlash at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
Below I'll summarize the steps from that guide.
1. go to https://www.dropbox.com/s/wrcd87u1iy31u4e and download nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip and nvflash_windows_20100500.zip
2. Extract the files the two .zip files that you download and copy all the files in the same folder. (I have 32 files in my nvFlash folder)
3. Download the usb driver for apx mode from http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/
4. Once you have all three of the files above, you boot in apx mode using power & vol - key. Once in apx mode, make sure you install the drivers that you downloaded in step 3. After that you can simply run the nvflash_gtablet.bat to flack back to stock rom.
Having nvFlash will help you get back to the stock rom and start from the very beginning, which is always a very good point to start when you want to install a new rom.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU FOLLOW THE ABOVE STEPS AND SETUP UP NVFLASH. IF YOU USE THE ABOVE METHOD AND NOTICE THAT YOU GET STUCK IN APX MODE AFTER YOU REBOOT YOUR DEVICE THEN USE THE nvflash_gtablet_46_2010112600.zip INSTEAD OF nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip.
also feel free to leave me a pm if you need more help or just post below
hope this helps a lot of new users who get stuck in bootloops or are having problems booting a new rom.
enjoy
I am stuck on the viewsonic boot screen coming from vegan 5.1 to GE rc-1. I need to nvflash but have a 64 bit windows 7 instalation. Are the instructions the same??
I read the original instructions but could not understand what to do? I am still kind of scratching my head. Probably easier than I am making it in my head.
Thanks for making a simple guide and answering our questions!!
Thanks. Guess I will be doing this when I get off work tonight!!
Rob
ya it works for x64...i m on win 7 64 bit and it works fine
Thanks for the info.
My question is -- when you say "download the ... files" - do you mean download to my PC or to my tablet?
That's the only part the is confusing as I'm not sure where the usb driver is to be installed (PC or tablet).
Thanks in advance.
My advice for NVFlash is DO NOT do it unless it is completely needed. From personal experience it can do more harm than good, as it has left me with a bricked device

I think your issue is something different and does not regard nvFlash. Its most probably have something to do with repartitioning. Did you try to get cwm .8 installed again on your tablet again by the method that I suggested??? or follow any of the steps that either me and K J Rad posted on the thread that you started??
I get an error when trying to install the APX driver. It says:
Cannot Start this Hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware: NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices. This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
I followed the instructions step by step. I recorded a quick video I recorded of the install process and error but I am new to XDA so it won't let me post the link. If you search for "Error installing APX," it should be the first one that shows up on the list - user name ouphikap21.
Any ideas?
I just tried on another computer and it worked fine. Could be a firewall or admin issue I suppose?

Go in device manager and under usb see if it is connected as a usb boot recovery device(something along those lines). If it is anything else then either you are not in apx mode(have to hold power + vol - key to get in apx on boot) or you dont have the right drivers.
Also what os are u on?

are there different drivers for Windows Xp x 64?
Now what?
Out of an abundance of caution, I installed NVflash preparatory to changing ROMs. Installation has apparently been successful but I'm not ready to flash the new ROM yet and I'm sitting here with a black (APX?) screen, still tied to my PC via USB.
What's the best procedure to revert to standard ops on my current ROM?
EDIT: I suppose I actually have the DRIVERS installed, not NVFlash.
Flashed the Broccoli nightly rom I can no longer boot or get back into CWM. Computer cannot start the device. Can someone please help me? Tried all the tools and methods. It won't work unless I can get the device to start when connected to my computer.
RIght now when I press Vol Up and power, it brings me to cold boot linux. Cannot select anything or do anything. When connected to comp, it says device cannot start Code 10. Don't know what else to do. Help please
Looks like you're having an issue similar to mine. You'll need to setup ADB and push another rom to your Prime.
Can you get into recovery?

This thing is completely frozen no matter what. I can power off and on but that's about it. The device won't start according to windows. I'm praying I won't have to RMA or something.
You shouldn't be getting that screen pressing vol up and power.....that should be vol down and power, then doing nothing.

Thats pretty strange. You kinda screwed unless you can get into recovery or fastboot

Hi,
where it says press down to change mode you should be able to highlight the middle icon. If so that is fastboot and you have a chance.
I had a very bricked Prime and it only got that far. Then I followed this post.
You must download the fastboot and adb from the links given. I had some from elsewhere and they didn't work so well.
Also, I am not an Android hacker and I think that the dd command is somehow dangerous. At the end of the day, on my machine, I'm back with AndroWook and latest Motley kernel
Best of luck.

Thanks let me try now. I hope it works. How did you get the computer to recognize the prime? Do I need to enable asus sync?

So when your device turns on its in a recovery loop right? You try to reboot and it goes right back to recovery?
It's ok don't worry, we will get it fixed. If that's what your problem is its referred to brick 1a in the unbrick your prime sticky thread.
We just need to setup ADB if you haven't already, and run one command. PM me if you need some help and ill try my best to get you through it or remotely connect to your computer to help you.
I highly suggest TWRP recovery after you get rebooted.

This is what I did while in CWM. Below is a copy of an insert from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24923189#post24923189
Anyhow, so after you have that version installed:
1. Download "ROOTED 9.4.2.21 CWM compatible signed US version"
d - h . s t / r 4 4 -> WITH NO SPACE! (This is from the Primeval: The STOCK stock rom) Thread.
2. EXTRACT IT to the same directory where your ADB is! We only need the BLOBFILE from that zip folder!
3. Once you have the files extracted just run the following on your Command line:
adb push blobfile /sdcard/ ---> Its going to look like its not doing
nothing but dont worry its doing it in the background after 401 or some
seconds the command line will returned to you with a message like this:
1275kb, dadadada...
4. VERY IMPORTANT!: enter:
adb shell
dd if=/sdcard/blobfile of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
(Same as the previews step it will take forever but it will work dude!)
5. DONE! at least this is what worked for me man!
Im so happy now my Asus is freaking Brand NEw again! i was JUST about to through this garbage away but im so happy "dklue" gave me the BLOB concept idea! heheheh i guess i learned something new now..
the thing is the computer is not picking it up i tried diffrent drivers and still nothing i try doing ADB Shell device not found in order to do some commands i have to have it mount and thats the problem what ever i do wont move nothing so basicly is still on CWM only reboot and back again to CWM
Hold power and vol down to boot into CWM. Then you can do the blobfile push. It worked for me
Hello guys, I'm here because my TF201 seems to be bricked ...
I know, there is a lot of threads about this kind of problems, but I can't succeed to solve mine by reading hundred of threads.
I explain what's happened :
My TF201 has an unlocked bootloader (by asus method), root, and has a CWM (CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4). I was on the lattest ICS build (9.4.2.15). Since october, i know that JB was on TF201, but not mine. So I decide to download the lattest Stock JB version from Asus website and to place it into my SDcard. I reboot my TF201 in recovery (holding down the volume button, then up), I've done a backup. After this backup, I've done a factory reset and I install the new ROM from my SDcard. Maybe I should not do this ... But now, my tablet stay on the bootscreen (Asus EEE pad logo). I can always access to the recovery, so I tried to factory reset and restore my previous backup ... But it didn't work, my tablet still bricked.
So, I went to google, i've read lots of threads for trying to understand whats happened to my TF201. I've read some thread on XDA forum too.
I've tried every solutions proposed, and anyone work.
I've read some articles about ADB. I installed it, but the problems is that my TF201 can't be detected by my computer (Running Win8 64). I installed drivers from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379875
But, still nothing, impossible to show my device when I write "adb devices" or "fastboot devices" in windows cmd.
I'm a little bit desesperate, so i came here for writting this thread, hopping that someone could help me to unbrick my TF201 without send it back to Asus (wich cost me hundreds of euros).
I'm going in front of some questions that i've read in other thread :
No i've not TWRP recovery installed.
I haven't got a nvFlash.
Thanks for reading this thread and for your help !
Sincerelly,
Thrakka.
PS : I'm really sorry for my bad english, don't blame me ^^

Primarily because he has cwm recovery and jellybean bootloader. He does not know how to set up his drivers on his computer for fastboot to install the correct recovery for his bootloader.
to the OP, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615990 and figure out how to get twrp for jellybean on your prime. TWRP supports flashing roms from the microsd slot so you dont need to push one to your sd. also if you need help getting the naked drivers to work on your prime go the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502 that pertains to others putting it on the prime. they will be more help than the galaxy naked drivers users. FORGET ABOUT CWM!!! IT IS NOT SUPPORTED ON PRIME FOR JELLYBEAN
@ Garret
Yes I can access to recovery, but for flashing a new rom, I need to access my internal SDcard ... But infortunatelly, now I can't.
A thing that I don't understand is when I restore my ICS backup, it doesn't work ...
@ Whycali
I'm gonna try your advice this afternoon.
But how can I install TWRP on my prime without access ... I'm will try with your links ... Hoping succeed ...
I'll give you the results in the evening.
Sincerely,
Thrakka.
I can access to the fastboot mode, but impossible to flash anything ...
I've taken all driver for the prime on my computer, install them.
the command "fastboot devices" work, i can see my prime : 00000 fastboot
but when I try the command "fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash recovery twrp.blob" from www{dot}teamw.in/project/twrp2/93, the result : error: cannot load 'twrp.blob' : No error.
I can't understand.
The directory "/platform-tools" from the ADT is in the PATH variable, and the file "twrp.blob" is in the same directory. Two ways for the fastboot command to find it, but it can't succeed ...
Same problem when I want to create my own nvflash blob file (tuto from androidroot.mobi/t3_nvflash/) with the command "fastboot -i 0x0b05 flash staging ebtblob.bin", the result is the same : error: cannot load 'ebtblob.bin' : No error.
I can't see my mistake ... Could you help me ?
Sincerely,
Thrakka.
PS : as i'm a new member, I can't post direct link to other site where I found tutos, sorry ...

on your pc you need to run the command from the same directory that contains the file you wish to transfer. easiest way to do this is to place the blob in the folder where your fastboot application is then hold shift and right click inside the folder. from the menu that opens choose open command window here. from there run your fastboot commands.

hey, hold up and check your pm. Do not install TWRP for jb if you are still on the ICS bootloader.
you can check which bootloader version of twrp to install by where the nvidia logo is on the bootscreen. bottom center needs ics twrp. bottom right needs Jellybean twrp. By all means if you are still with ics finish the nvflash backups first.

Hello Aduniel: I have essentially the same issue with my tf201. It seems to be hard bricked? (My guess.) If I reboot with Volume Down and Power button, I get a message "This device is Unlocked" in upper left of screen. Also large lettering in center of the screen, "ASUS" and "nNidea Tegra 3" in the lower right.
If I boot with Volume Up and Power button, I get a blank, black screen. (APX mode).
I have set up ADB and naked drivers on a notebook running Windows 7. When I try to connect via fastboot, I get a message <waiting for device>. But it does not connect.
I was wondering if you managed to get your tablet working since Nov. 2013? If so, what did you have to do? I need to know if there is any hope, or have I shot myself in the foot, as they say.
Cheers man,
Jim

You're not dumb. I don't know anything about this tablet but check to see if you find solutions here.

I agree with vanessaem.... You are not dumb at all, just a newbie. We all started out as a newbie ourselves
I just read on the forums for your device that there is a physical "Reset" button near the SD Card slot. Can you please try to stick a paperclip or pin into that hole and hold it down until the tablet reboots? I also read that these instructions may be in the manual as well.
If all else fails you can restore the tablet to defaults. I also did a quick search and came upwith the easy steps to restore it. These steps are from another forum so I will quote them since this is not my work.
I've only had this tablet a few hours, but managed to get to a point where it wouldn't boot pretty soon after rooting it. So after trying everything to get it up and running I finally managed it with ADB and fastboot, also it took from Android 4.1.1 to 4.2.1 - so here is what I did after reading various forums of problems with other Asus devices and soft-bricking other Android devices in the past - hopefully it might help someone one day.
You will need to install the Asus ADB drivers before following the steps below, if you haven't installed them you can get them here
1. Download and install Lightweight ADB and fastboot installer here from XDA
2. Create a folder called 'Fastboot' on your C: drive (it can actually be called anything but the prompts below refer to a folder with this name)
3. Download the CarePackage.zip file here and unzip the contents to C:\Fastboot, there are 4 files
4. Download your chosen firmware from the Asus web site - extract the zip file to reveal another zip, extract the second zip file, copy the 'blob' file to the Fastboot folder, there will now be 5 files in your fastboot folder
5. Reboot tablet, holding volume down, select the USB option (3rd icon) using volume down to cycle through icons and volume up to select and connect it to your PC using the USB cable
5. Run the Lightweight ADB and fastboot installer which will open the command line, enter the following commands;
c:\Fastboot
fastboot devices
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob
6. The following will now be displayed in the command line screen;
sending 'system' <1062567 KB> (the actual size will vary depending on the firmware selected) Also a blue bar will appear on your tablet screen showing the progress. It takes around 3-4 minutes to send the system files.
writing 'system' will then be displayed, this will take a further 3-4 minutes.
Once the files have have been sent and written the command screen will display something similar to;
finished. total time: 444.226s
7. Unplug the tablet and reboot it using the power button, you'll have a fresh install, all data, root etc will be lost.
For anyone who is struggling to recover their tablet or just actually update it I hope this helps

thanks for all advices, but i think this is a SERIOUS problem ..
i can't do fastboot, can't connect PC-ANDROID or vice versa
my android device has now only two modes / off or stoned when asus logo appears
RECOVERY twrp non reachable!
So my Transformer Prime is stuck at ASUS logo splash screen..
Please let me explain what I have done to cause this.
0. Using Transformer Prime on the original Android system (4.1??) - I took the following steps to install android kit kat 4.4.?
1. I rooted it then unlocked it
2. I installed the recovery system - http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=2229#downloads
following the instruction below =>
original thread - http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/transformer-prime-roms/41446-re-install-using-nvflash.html
If you haven't already found a recovery flasH the one found here
Cyanogenmod 11.0 Unofficial TF201 - xda-developers DevDB - http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=2229#downloads
Place it in your fastboot folder. Open a command prompt in the fastboot folder by right-clicking in the folder and choosing "open command prompt here"
Reboot tablet into fastboot and connect to pc. Then type:
fastboot devices
You should see your tablet listed.
If so type:
fastboot -i 0xb05 flash recovery recovery.img.SOS
You should see a blue progress bar under an Asus logo.
Once done, reboot tablet into recovery and you should be good to go.

3. I used the recovery system to successfully install the followings
* cm-11-20131229-UNOFFICIAL-tf201.zip (kit kat android system 4.4?)
* gapps-kk-20131119.zip
4. After this I rebooted the tablet then now it''s stuck at the ASUS screen.
I have found that quite a few people have experienced this... but I'm not very certain of what I need to do so I would appreciate if any of you can help me to resolve this issue. My ultimate goal now is to be able to boot the tablet to a usable state(with apps).
Currently,
* fastboot cannot be done
* can connect to PC in APX(?) mode
* downloaded rom(?) US_epad-user-10.4.2.18.zip from http://www.asus.com/Tablets/Eee_Pad_Transformer_Prime_TF201/HelpDesk_Download/ but I hae no idea how i can use this.
* i have 'nvflash' folder on pc, in the folder I have blob.bin.... I have attached a screenshot of what's in the folder
Thank you in advance.
You have to flash the correct version of TWRP for the bootloader you are on. Flashing any random TWRP without knowing is a sure way to brick the machine.
Please show me the link to the instructions you were following. I don't think you can tell me your exact bootloader version from what you can see so please also tell me where the Tegra logo is on your screen. Bottom center or bottom right ?
Edit. I forgot to say the good news is you have nvflash backups so you should be able to fix it anyway. If you just want to go ahead and try and recover it yourself start here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927818&highlight=nvflash

Hi flumpster, thank you so much for trying to help me.
Initially I followed this tutorial to unlock my TF201 and backed up Blobs and Enabling Nvflash access.
https://matthill.eu/android/transformer-prime-tf201-jellybean-nvflash/
this flatline recovery? was what I had and it did NOT install cm-11-20131229-UNOFFICIAL-tf201.zip (kit kat android system 4.4?)
Then I found this thread to find another user having the same installation error problem - http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/transformer-prime-roms/41446-re-install-using-nvflash.html
In the thread above, I followed a post by a guy named 'mediadriven'' to re-install another recovery(?).
File: recovery.img - http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=2229#downloads
With the recovery tool, I was able to install
* cm-11-20131229-UNOFFICIAL-tf201.zip (kit kat android system 4.4?) - http://www.mediafire.com/download/xdwpk61crqttmib/cm-11-20131229-UNOFFICIAL-tf201.zip
* gapps-kk-20131119.zip - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760974567
After the installation, I rebooted the tablet then now it''s stuck at the ASUS screen.

Thank you for the link, before posting this thread here I have attempted to follow the thread above to unbrick my tf201. I was able to follow up to step 5 to be in nvflash mode.
I was not able to follow from step 6.. perhaps that is because I do not have these files - blob.EBT, blob.SOS, blob.LNX, and blob.APP
List of files that I have in nvflash is in the picture attached in my first post.
Thank you.
The files you are missing for step 6 are all in a zip file at the bottom of the link I gave you. Here is the direct link.

so each time i ran a nvflash command it successfully completes then rebooted itself to the Asus splash logo screen.. I have to reboot my device into apx mode then wheelie back into nvflash before being able to go to the next step..
When I ran the last command below it did not seem like it did anything.. output i got from the nvflash was "[resume mode]".
nvflash.exe -r --go
Rebooting the tablet makes the system stuck at ASUS splash logo screen..
I can reboot my device into APX mode.. and can also use nvflash but I may not have been follow the steps in the guide properly as it rebooted itself each time I ran nvflash commands.
What could I do?

I'm not sure what you are doing wrong mate. I would do it all again from scratch starting from the beginning of the instructions.
Also while you are on the Asus splash screen try holding down the volume down button and the power button for 10 seconds until it restarts and then keep holding them. Do you end up in the bootloader screen now ?

Unfortunately the money doesn't help, I cannot see what you are doing wrong. Everything I have said should work for you and if I had the machine here I am pretty sure I could get it working in under an hour.
If you was in the UK I would offer to let you send it to me as long as you paid the return postage but from the US that is just way too expensive. The only thing I can advise at this point is to try and find someone on here from the US who is willing to take a look at it for you.
If I had been you I would have tested multiple PCs with the universal drivers and also tried different usb ports (2 and 3) then if all that failed I would have booted off a live linux cd and tried it in there. If that still failed I would have used the script from the end of craigs nvflash post that puts the machines partitions and everything else back to stock but this has to be done in linux also.
Have you solved this problem now ?
In case you haven't, I found a possible solution for the 'stuck at Asus logo problem'
My prime was suffering the same problem; except that hadn't done an nvflash backup. What worked for me was a pressing the of the power and reset button (with a needle) and volume up button (I believe) at the same time. I don't know what combination exactly since I was trying some things with the reset button and boom it worked
