[Q] how to increase battery? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

how can i increase my battery life in my htc inspire?

U can
1. flash custom kernel and than underclock and undervolt
2. root and remove bloatware running in background
Sent using r800i with DoomKernel v14 (1.21ghz)

First of all, you can't really increase it. Just a little bit.
Thingd that help are:
Turning screen brightness low
Turn bluetooth and gps of when you don't use it
Turn wifi off when you don't need it
Advanced things that less people know:
Wait untill your phone shut down automaticly, because battery is dead. Than boot a few times to be sure.
After that, plug it in and don't stop charching untill its 100%. Than plug it in again, untill its 100%. This will boost your phone.
If you have root you can change your phone to batterysaver, but it will kill high performances. If your just a heavy user, buy yourself a second battery
I hope it helped

Easy:
Brightness down.
Auto sync off.
Turn wifi & mobile data off when not in use.
Turn off auto brightness.
Use push notifications rather than refresh (Facebook, email, etc.)
Harder:
Flash a different kernel.
Flash a modem that gives you good signal.
Undervolt.
Underclock.
Enable tweaks (AFTR Idle, lulzactive inc_cpu_load, etc.)
Use a different governor/I/O Scheduler.
Use profiles (SetCPU, Voltage Control, etc.)
And, if you're desperate, flash a stripped down ROM.

improving battery life???

Hi im having problemswith my battery. it goes dry very fast. before i updated my phone to 2.3.3 i used Advanced Task Killer but now its not working like it did before. any applications that i can use with 2.3.3 that are efficient like the Advanced Task Killer was with 2.1
get apn droid and disable 3g when you are not using your internet, always turn wifi off when not using it. root and use setcpu to make your cpu go to lowest speed when screen is locked
also read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071885
use battery calibrator software from the market and follow the instructions! Once the battery is calibrated then install CPU master anuntu from market and select the maximum 578mhz and minimal 245.76mhz with scaling on demand. Hopefully this should improve the battery life as it did with mines!
first flash a custom kernel like Doomkernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226826
then install a cpu manger like setCPU (http://forum.mobilism.org/viewtopic.php?f=438&t=214414&hilit=setCPU) or antutu CPU master
then change the governor to smartassV2
then when you are charging your phone charge it up to 100% -unplug charger- switch off phone- remove battery - insert charger - then the battery - then switch on phone and charge until 100%
use common methods such as turning off Data , WiFi, Bluetooth , GPS etc...
i got almost 3 days battery life by doing this !!!

Saving battery on my Android device?

So after some research and Googling, I discovered that "Killling" your app is only worse or has no effect for your battery life. Even using apps that "save" battery only harm it even more. I've been told these were the fundamental things to save battery ever since I even got my hands on a smart phone.. Guess I've been asking the wrong people.
So, what are real ways to save battery? I'm a heavy phone user, often surfing the net or watching Netflix on the go. Dimming my screen is not enough, are there any other techniques to prevent my phone from dying? I've got an Android 4.
If you're rooted:
Underclock
Undervolt
Change cpu governor/io scheduler
Flash different ROMS and kernels
Change your modem
And a few more.
Not rooted:
Use screen filter? Lol.
Update your firmware

I am rooted, thank you for the info! I'll be looking into it~
Get bigger battery?
Turn thing off lol only kidding but turn off auto updates such as news etc
If you look at your battery stats, under settings, you'll see what uses the most battery. Usually I find that my screen uses around 70% of my battery, but if you have something else high on the list you might have a "rogue app" preventing your phone from going into sleep mode.
If your screen is the culprit you can only save 10% or so by throttling your CPU etc. The only way you can make real savings is by reducing screen brightness.
Easiest way to save battery is use gemini app manager to stop apps being able to autostart when you don't want them to as then you don't have the os having to kill off unused apps to make more free ram.
For example a lot of apps can autostart when your wifi goes on or off, when your 3G signal drops etcetera including things like facebook or google play. By changing auto start for such apps you don't have to run a task killer which also saves battery.

i use the aokp rom milestone 4 atm, and i also have come accross a fantastic battery app called "Badass Battery Monitor". its free and details very very specifically what apps are using the battery most.
I have managed to increase my battery by rooting out the apps i dont use that are using prescious power...
Also, turning off useless app permissions for apps theat really dont need them and work perfectly well without them will also save on power massively. for this i use "LBE Privacy Guard" works an absolute charm
I have widget where I can turn off Internet connection, set brightness, GPS etc. Internet stand-by mode uses damn much battery... And when you don't use Internet, you can put on 2G, it also saves battery.
This may not benefit you if you are a heavy user but I find the feature on my Droid 3 that turns off 3G after 15 minutes of inactivity saves battery and also saves data. Not sure if this is a standard Android feature or if it would even benefit you.
Here with LG P990 and I don't have option to turn off 3G aftre some minutes... but if/when you didn't need high speed you can choose only 2G network (for example when needed receive only notification): this save a lot your battery.
Moreover you can verify battery consumption to see if there are autostart apps from your vendor than have heavy power consumption (for me there was OnScreenPhone) and use gemini app manager as explained previously.
In the end you can find out custom ROM for your device usually optimized for smoothness and power consumption.
First apps I download when switching to a new Rom to get a little control on battery are
Adfree- Get rid of ads, they eat a bit of battery.
DroidWall- Control what apps are able to access Internet under separate "Mobile Data" and "Wifi" Conditions.
Screenfilter- Dim the screen below factory settings.
LED's hack- Turn off the Softbutton Backlights (home/menu/back/search), even though they don't seem like it may eat up your battery, it is an extra 'light' that's on, even though it may be minimal, it's still drawing power.
Also, It maybe just a Photon thing cuz of the Pentile display but I always use if not completely Black background image, a dark one because the 'lighter' or 'whiter/colorful' images take more battery, same reason I always look for 'Inverted' or black themed apps too.
Turn OFF any 'Haptic feedback' settings on your phone (Keyboard, Phone DialPad, Screen/UI Interactions, etc..)
For Calls (Ringtone) and Notification settings, don't have them set to 'Ring and Vibrate' or just 'Vibrate' because the Vibration Mechanism will eat alot if battery. Some may argue that the Notification 'Vibrate' setting and even the Haptic feedback (which does in fact use the phones Vibration mechanism) would not kill battery because it's a 'quick' or 'minimal' use (depending on use) and but if your keyboard had the Haptic feedback on, thinking of how many times your touch the keyboard for even on Text message, try will add up and help kill the battery.
Turn OFF any/all Homescreen/UI Animations
Turn OFF any Auto Sync setting and instead have APPS sync in a specified interval, (Of course Depending on how important the information that's being pulled like Email) , Could be set to like every 4 hours to sync an so on.
Manually input Date/Time settings instead of "Get network provided values" because it'll be one less thing pulling from Internet.
Set Screen Timeout to 30 Secs and Never have Auto-Brightness set, instead use a brightness toggle of some sort (Stock 'Power Control' Widget works well) to only have it as bright as you need to view in current conditions.
Open the Google 'Talk' application and uncheck the 'Auto log-in' setting, and then 'Sign out'. For some reason this always runs in the background and eats alot of battery.
If I think of more things ill post them
Hope these tips help, if they do don't forget to hit the thanks button thanks.
MoPhoACTV Initiative
There are many ways...
Switch on WiFi, 3G at only using, and close the not using application, decrease display brightness etc...
And if you root your phone, you may change CPU governor, or build.prop tweaks, script tweaks... Or change to custom kernel or custom ROM.
I forgot that 'LED's hack' is not available in the market anymore, I attached it below.
i hv just downloaded screen-filter lets c how that works...
Juice defender
Try JuiceDefender by Latedroid. It helps a lot to turn off things you don't need when you don't need them. Sorry I can't post the link- I'm new to XDA
my experience:
undervolting does not help much. you have to test a lot for only a little bit of improvement.
in my opinion you will not really remark it.
but what helps, i think, is set cpu speed, if possible. for example i use samsung galaxy s2 where cpu has max 1200mhz. i set max cpu freq to 800mhz. with a good rom (hydrogenics f.e.) android keeps running smooth with 800mhz and battery lasts noticeable longer.
I agree that undervolting doesn't help so much.
Like in up post, best thing to save Your battery is to change cpu power. You can also use diffrent cpu govenor : good for battery are smartassv2 and power save. Just need to have rooted phone and download app, fx. Antutu CPU Master or Set CPU. U can also make your cpu speed profiles.

[Q] what do i need to install on my SE live with walkman to extend my battery life?

what do i need to install on my SE live with walkman to extend my battery life? i just bought this unit a few days agos
try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5lYXN5LmJhdHRlcnkuc2F2ZXIiXQ..
Though it does not necessarily extend the battery life, it just minimizes battery usage by disabling apps and unnecessary network configurations while you are not using your phone,
for me, the best way is to lower the display brightness.
You can't get much from it anyway as LWW has quite small battery.
Most custom ROM have better battery life, Hybrom is the most stable and similar to stock.

well to extend battery life you can follow few tips
1.make the phone ringing volume to 50%
2.decrease the brightness level as per your requirements
3.disable the wifi or data services when not in use
4.turn off your phone when you are in personal meetings or where there is no network coverage

Turning off is not needed, airplane mode is enough.
Also turn off GPS and bluetooth when not needed.

You could use JuiceDefender or if you use Dolphin for browsing, install Dolphin Companion. I can easily get around +3 hours more worktime with Dolphin Companion
and you can also set the network selection mood to manual, if not the handset will keep looking for networks if you are in a no network area.
and yes airplane mood is the better option. i'd suggest use the status switch(power control) widget in one of your home screens. and then you can switch off the wifi, gps, data and aslo the backlight too.
keep the backlight turned off if you are at indoors. youi'll need a backlight only if theres high light intensity around you
hope this helped
root your phone, install SETCPU and underclocked your cpu to 368 max and 245 min. youll totaly increase your battery life dramatically.. i can play angry birds space smoothly using this frequency but you need toincrease frequency when playing other games like temple run. im sure it will help

Answer Vibration too weak, any fix? + 2 more questions :D

Hello guys,
I have turned on the Call alert -> Answer vibration (so when awaiting for the receiver to pick up the phone you don't have to hold the phone near ear - that helps to avoid network)
I found out that the vibration is really weak, is there any way to fix it? A lil bit stronger would be nice.
Also the screen to me is a bit over-satured, any apps to calibrate the screen so it becomes a lil bit naturally? The natural mode is not good imho.
Regarding battery, what apps do you guys use to optimize the battery, what task manager you use to kill / block un-needed apps to run in backround?
Thank you!
Uppppppppp
Phone menu > settings > sound > vibration intensity > haptic feedback
Don't use task killers, they are unneeded on latest Android. Block app from starting with using "autostarts" app, requiring root. There are others, but this works well for me.

No this doesn't work with the answer vibration, only normal vibration when the phone is ringing etc.
Good question by the OP, I too would like a mod for this.

So you advice that using Task killers = not required? Better root the fone, delete the bloat-wares, set CPU and autostarts?
What else do you do in order to make the S3 battery super-man?

Yes making it a lil bit stronger would be nice
+ reduce a bit (very lil) saturation would be awesome too.
Today I compared the s3 with Note and I found out that S3 screen is darker (note is brighter a bit) and s3 is has some slight pink-orange tint, note has the tint to something slight blue-green (very very little)
Many ways to help out battery life.
Disabling motion, GPS, auto sync, lowering screen brightness, setup background apps for manual syncing, prevent certain apps from auto starting, removing or freezing bloatware, UV UC custom kernel, using 2g instead of 3g, disabling animations, and many more......
Personally, I just use lower brightness level or auto bright. Sometimes use "auto brightness" app from the market and customise the curve. Everything else i leave on and sync etc. I want to use this phone the way it was made to I have heavy on screen time and still get 6+ hours.
On the SGS2, I would also UV the GPU and CPU, but waiting for more mature custom kernel for the SGS3 first before trying that.

Grab the Better Battery Stats app from XDA or donate version in market to check your wakelocks. Heard something about Light Flow casing wakelock of not configured right. Check the XDA BBS thread or search Q&A. I only skimmed, so could be wrong. You shouldn't need to use power saving to get reasonable battery life.

Tips for better battery life

Hi! I just wanted to give you some useful tips for saving battery on your Galaxy S2 with DorimanX kernel, running Android 4.2.2 JellyBam ROM.
1.Screen:
a)Galaxy S2`s AMOLED screen consumes much battery.Try to lower the brightness in Setting=>Display=>Brightness. Also turn
off automatic brightness.
b)Don`t use live wallpapers.They`re draining much battery.Use a solid,non live one.
c)Reduce screen timeout. Some people just forgot to turn off their screen.Screen timeout turns it off automatically.
2.Connections:Turn off WI-FI,Bluetooth,3G/Data,GPS when you don`t have to use them.They drain a lot of battery,especially WI-FI and 3G.Also try
using airplane mode, when you don`t need to call anybody,or at night, and try using 2G connections instead of 3G.
3.Apps:
a)Apps can use very much battery. If you finished playing a game, like Angry Birds, don`t just simply press the HOME button, because it won`t close it.It will still run in the background.Instead keep pressing the BACK button, until it closes,or long press the HOME button,to see the recents, and swipe away.
b)Try setting your BACK button,so it will kill apps at long press.
c)Use a Task Killer,for ex. Battery Booster
4.CPU:
a)Underclocking:In DorimanX kernel, you can underclock your CPU.This will save battery, but also it will reduce performance. Also, try using "conservative" governor. This governor will run your CPU at the lowest possible frequency. You can set the Max and Min CPU frequency with simple apps like SetCPU.
b)Undervolting:Undervolting is another way to save battery. You can reduce the voltage required for each CPU frequency. But CAREFUL! You can brick your phone by setting a too low value.
That`s it! This is my first real post.I`ve wrote all from my head
well...nice try...
but please first search/read/
and don't start new threads when there is a much more complete guide!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909996&highlight=battery+life
There's hundreds of posts like these, most even more extensive. These are all pretty much common knowledge anyway.
