The Facts:
1. My rezound was dropped from approximately 1.5' and did not leave a dent when dropped. It had a protective case on at the time.
2. My rezound instantly stated that no SIM card was inserted. I fiddled with it and tried a friend's VZW SIM card, however, it still received the same message, and shows the disconnected icon in the top right corner.
3. the radio is good. I checked the radio by dialing 9-11 and hanging up upon hearing the first ring.
The Question:
Is this an issue that can be resolved without returning the device under factory warranty?
I would say try applying light pressure around the outter edge of the phone, to see if it seperated somewhere...and also try a bit around the sim area....if that's no go...try a factory reset

THIS!! What is wrong with people? In my area, 911 calls you back if you ring and hang up.
I would remove and reinsert and make sure the SIM card is inserted in the right direction (maybe better with your friends known working card). I know you said you checked this, but I have personally made the mistake of putting the SIM in the wrong way and then wondering for 30 minutes why the phone wouldn't detect the SIM card.

Prank calling 911 is FELONY and punishable up to
a year or more and $10,000 fine for first offense depending on the state you reside in.
Accidental calling does happen and detectives do followup on those if determined to be related to other like ocurances. But in your case you proved it was no accident.
911 is for emergencies you douchebag and not for your testing pleasure!!
UPDATE: Fine is upto $25,000 & upto 3 years imprisonment for a first offense depending on your state. FCC can also file federal charges if call was placed by a mobile type device for first offense.

I worked in the EMS field as well and setup 911/emergency systems for cities and FEMA for many many years so its not hate and discontent. if you Work for a communications company and your are responsible for setting up and testing communication hardware and software then it is legal as long as a valid permit is in your or the company you work for posession.
What he did was not legal.....even if it only rang once and did not go through....it did get logged on the call server.
He had a choice....He could have called 611 to the carrier.....even a nonactivated phone can make this call. the carrier could have made a test call and/or data push to test the device, or he could have
call his device from his home phone/work phone. What he did was just stupid and childish....so ya most of us ems folks do take it seriously and if you are part of the community you should too....
Common sense if not so common these days.
But if he did not want to call verizon then post#2 is his best bet. Otherwise he should call verizon from his home phone

Give this guy a break and help him out. My first phone used to butt dial 911 every so often because it wouldn't lock and holding the 9 button would dial 911.
I'm sure I caused mass havoc and the Army was called in. Relax, not everybody needs to make a case as to why it wasn't cool, we get that.
On that note OP, can you connect to 3G? Also, is there any reason you can't go to a store and have them look at it (rooted/rom/etc.)?

Gotta call Sprint and tell them you can't roam. Some times with hands-free activation that won't reprovision correctly. It takes 2 minutes on the phone OR www.sprint.com/chat takes 3 but is easier.
This came up a lot on the E4G forum after everyone was trying everything they could (including hands free activations OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again) just to get the new PRI--which made no difference to any but a very select few, argue if you must.
Call Sprint, tell them you have error 16 and you need an HRL refresh...
..but obv don't tell them anything about rooting lol

lol, "signals", I got the same thing. I'm split between believing that they dumb it down for the common non-techie caller or that they were trained that it was 'sending new signals' to fix it, so, that's what they actually think is going on.

Hahaha I think its common thing in customer service to call it signals. When i was working for Charters cable repair, they would tell people im sending signals to your box. Well they said signals I think because people freaked out if you said im going to hit your box i guess.

I had already done the error 16 thing and Sprint fixed that. Was a little worried when I saw this thread so I used Roam Control and forced roam. Calls work fine for me. I guess if you've already done the error 16 fix via Sprint, it's OK.

anyone found away to do this without calling sprint. i had to on my phone. which works perfect now. my wifes on the other hand i have spent hrs on the phone with different tech people doing the same processes i did to fix mine. the result ends up roam still doesnt work. they created a ticket for me. and asked to bring it to a repair center. im in the process of restoring it to factory and relocking. which sucks i have to do. but her phone simply will not roam.

a friend had his thunderbolt stolen & already filed a police report & got his replacement so everything is fine with him now. I'm curious about the stolen phone itself though. I know it gets blacklisted on verizon but what about potential recovery? he never had any phone security apps installed and had that "phone finder" option disabled. can't they still track the phone via gps or something? just with all the security these days it makes me wonder how/if these thieves can even get away with it.
Yes. Go to the Google Market on the computer and have him install Lookout Plan B . This will push the app to the phone and will auto install. Then it will email him the location after a few minutes. This will only work if the thief did NOT do a factory reset/wipe, the phone is still on, and connected to the internet.

Are u sure you are not talking about taking your friends thunderbolt and using it till you get a new phone? next time he should just say he lost it people on here have lost phones got a replacment and a lie or not they ended up finding their phone and still use it as a backup. They just put in their new 4G card and use it to test roms and such. Not bad as a 100 buck replacment.

I thought that there was in fact a "master" blacklist for stolen phones that all carriers access. It's not as applicable with VZW, but consider GSM phones and how "transferable" they are.
That said, I thought that stealing cell phones was completely foolish (not that stealing wasn't already!).

To the typical person who would buy a stolen cell phone, it's just "a phone" though. People who steal stuff typically don't take things for their own use either. I just gave to wonder when a thief goes to their "fence" with stuff if they even take the phones or just take it all and toss the phones in the garbage.

yeah exactly. replacement phone already came awhile ago.
whatever happened to the original is what I was curious about. I mean, if it ended up in someone's hands(with the bad esn) and they tried to re-activate it couldn't verizon track them down?
I had a phone stolen from me long ago & went through the same replacement process.
I remember trying to call my phone & some girl answered. she refused to give it back but offered to sell it to me.
Now that it's happened this time(although this time it went straight to voicemail upon calling)it just got me wondering.
It's simply not worth Verizon's time nor, in most areas, the police's time, to (actively) look for a cellphone.

Is Sprint having outages that i don't know about? At least 5 times a week (past 3 weeks) my 3G icon goes away and my signal bars turn gray and i cant call, text or use data. Its extremely frustrating! Its not my bill/service as im always on time and ive NEVER been late or missed a payment so that's not the problem. I just dont get it. Ive reset my phone a million times! What is going on? When i make calls it just says "your account cannot be validated" and all text get rejected. After a couple of hours the 3G comes back and i can make calls. Sprint you're already horrible please dont make me pay cancellation fees because i will.

Just call for a credit, remember, you can't use unlimited data on Big Red, and if they won't give you most of your bill back, try speaking to a manager and demanding your money back as you were not getting the required service specified in the contract.

That's what's happening here as well. As far as I know, it started happening about a week ago.
Interestingly, I unplugged the Airrave and called myself from another phone (different carrier). I had one bar on my phone, and the one-ring problem happened again. Then I totally lost my signal and called myself again. This time, it rang on the caller's end as you would expect. So I'm not sure this is about the Airrave...
Edit: Scratch that. After more testing, it's definitely the Airrave.

I have other issues with the Airave like texts bring sent ten times to the recipient but on my end it says it could not be sent.
It's not the Airave itself. There are a lot of people with this problem at the moment. It's being actively worked on.

This works because the call is handled slightly differently when going through the Airave. If you have sufficient enough coverage in your home to do this, then go for it. The issue should be fixed shortly. It's not something that has to be sent to all Airave's, as I said, they aren't the issue.

Just got off the phone with Sprint, and they said I won't be able to make a phone call, receive phone calls, or even text messages until October 14th because they are in the process of upgrading their towers to the new LTE network in the Fort Worth area. Sounds fishy... It's hard to believe that a carrier would just deny services and continue to charge for them. I assume this would mean no service for anyone in the ft worth area since you're not the only one who uses those towers. I don't think Sprint would risk the class action lawsuit.

No arguments there. I'll probably call back in a few days to see if they have anything better for me. Right now I'm sick and lost my voice, so I just don't want to deal with it. But once I get my voice back, I'll see if I can't get anything better out of them. Especially since I'm still paying for when I can't even use my phone which is kind of stupid.

Why would you call back in a few days? I would all over them about this if it were me and I wouldn't let up until I had a real explanation. Tell them to fix your **** or let you out of your contract (as not providing service to you while I assume you are in good standing and not violation the TOS on their part)
However, there are at least 3 sides to every situation what you say, what sprint says, and what really going on. Not calling you a liar it just seems like there is more to the story.
That's my 2 cents.

Sounds like a load of BS to me. I haven't had a problem with service around the area... I haven't actually been into "Fort Worth" in a few days, but I live pretty damn close. There is no way they could just shut off all services like that for almost two months. That rep must have been new or lied or something, because that doesn't even SOUND reasonable.
lol if they couldnt provide me service until Oct. 14th i would have just said i want to cancel without a fee immediately because i do business with my phone. and they can't really do squat because i pay for a service and they don't even let me do the most basic of functions.
OP needs to call back and get clarification. Only thing I have found:
https://www.sprint.net/maint_view.php
I might try to call again tonight once I get off of work. But again I'm not entirely sure what to say. Plus right now, I've lost my voice, so I can barely talk, as a result, I can't even show anger in my voice, so getting made isn't much of an option. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do yet.

I just got off the phone with the a Sprint manager last night, who then connected me to her EVO specialist. She was also unable to solve the problem, so she told me that she will get the towers in the area looked at and try to determine what is going on in the area and give me a call back within 72 hours. That said, they said they were going to do this once before 5 days ago now, but I still haven't got a call back from then. However, one good thing that I got out of it all is that they are crediting my account for the past 6 days and how ever many days more it takes to get my phone back on the network. So at the very least, now I'm not paying for phone service that I'm not getting, so that makes me happy. I'm sure they will figure something soon with the towers if not maybe they can give me Airrave so I can at least make phone calls while I'm at home which would make things more liveable. I'll keep everyone posted on what they discover and what they decide to do.
In addition, my location is the TCU campus in Fort Worth. I live close by and go to school there. In both areas I get no cell service. But once I drive about 5 miles away I have no problems. Let me know if anyone else in the area is experience the problems on XDA. The sprint store nearby between Berry and Hulen St. said they have had a few customers coming the past few days with the same problem, but I was curious if anyone on here was also experiencing my pain.

No problems here in the Arlington/Mansfield/Kennedale area so far... I guess if that changes I will be reporting on here and raising hell with Sprint as well.

If that is the case it is either a provisioning error, phone isn't set to cdma only or bad phone.

I don't think you have the same problem that I do, because if I leave my area my phone works, fine. I'm only having trouble when I'm at TCU or at my house which is right next to TCU. But who knows, maybe they are related.
P.S. I've already changed my phone to CDMA only to see if it would help but got no change. Plus I've already taken it into the Sprint store, and they said everything was fine with the phone and factory reset it and everything, but saw no problems because their building is outside of my tower radius, as a result the phone worked perfectly there.
