thank you man
if you make it sure it's going to be great caz i wana buy one
Gorilla Glass 2 was introduced at CES, 2 months after the RAZR came out. I'll be surprised if we see any phones using it before fall.
And it's always struck me as kind of funny that Motorola advertises Gorilla Glass as a selling point. 95% of the phones on the market use it- the rest (Galaxy Nexus, for example) have their own brand of chemically strengthened glass that's more or less equivalent. It's about the only option if you need to keep it thin.

No lectures, please. My wife is on top of that.
I dropped my phone and it must have hit just right. Screen is cracked. It's fully functional, for now, but I can tell it's about to start deteriorating soon.
What do I search for? Digitizer? If so, that sucks, those are extremely expensive.
Help?
Someone just posted this the other day about how his screen cracked real easy.

Why u no have insurance? but the DROID RAZR screen is one piece so its expensive. 230$ Here's a link to a site that has replacement parts for the RAZR. http://www.cellphone-repair-shop.com/motorola-droid-razr-parts-xt910-xt912/
If it works for now I'd hold off. You could also look for a bricked RAZR or maxx for sale with a fine screen that might be a little cheaper.

Do you think a water damaged, no signs of life phone from Ebay would work? Would the digitizer take a crap because of water?

I cracked my screen too the other day when my razr fell out of my shirt pocket while I was picking my son up. It fell flat on it's face in the dirt and hit a small stone that broke the screen. LCD is still working but the cracks (star shaped) and glass edges are annoying so I need to find a solution.

The only thing I can think of is like I said before find a non working razr with a good screen. Or like I posted the link for the replacement screen but that's really expensive. Insurance sure does come in handy most insurance charges a 100$ deductible for the razr or at least Verizon does. Best buy has great insurance they replaced my DROID x free of charge. Also If anyone knows if the screen on a water damaged phone would work I'd like to know that too.

You won't know how to replace it your self, plus - the razr is one of the hardest phones when it comes to a full dismantle if you've cracked the LCD. I would say, send it to motorola

One of the hardest? It's actually really easy but you lose the water proof. The screen and digitizer is one piece making it a very easy replacement.
Try replacing a digitizer only on a nexus one or hd2 compared to them the razr is child's play

If you want to keep it water proof and make sure it has gorilla glass send it to Motorola. If you try fixing it yourself, and something else gets broken, you've voided your warranty.
I sent a RAZR MAXX to Motorola to have a broken screen replaced. They "misplaced" the phone and couldn't find it. So they waived the repair cost. ($179) I did finally get my phone back, fixed. 11 days after they received it, good as new warranty intact.
Compared to a any other 4.3 device..i would say this is the hardest
Just wanna say the phone is not water proof its water resistant at best.

Can anyone confirm that the EVO LTE is sporting Gorilla Glass II? How's your screen holding up so far? Are you using a screen protector or going commando :sly: style?

That is awesome!
I had to shoo my 4 year old son away from watching that with me. I know if he did, I'd find my broken phone out in the garage along with nails & a block of wood!

That is awesome. I mean, I can't picture trying it myself. But is the lte using the same screen as One X? Also, random, I hate the One X screen the way it sticks up out of the chassis.
Also, I was in a sprint store today, and the rep scratched a Motorola photon screen with a set of keys, repeatedly to show how resistant the screen is. No damage. Said they've been doing it every day for fun. But, does Evo have same glass as photon? Rep didn't know and I've never investigated.

I'm screaming at home, "WHAT THE ****, MAN!! STOP DOING THAT! YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK IT! OMG, I FEEL IT IN MY BALLS!!!"
And then, "OH! Holy **** that glass is tough!".
That is one scary video....

I don't think it is. From what I read the other day it seems the GSIII will be the first phone sporting the new Gorilla Glass 2

correct,
although there is almost no difference in strength between gorilla glass and gorilla glass 2. The latter is designed to be thinner.

I'm using a screen protector and body case since most of the time smartphones rubbing the inside of my pants' pockets wear down the screen and cosmetics of the device

I have the HD Zagg on, but it kinda messes with the P-sensor, when i make a call and put the phone away from my face it sometimes doesnt turn on, never had this issue with my 3d. And if it matters i payed 8 dollars at bestbuy to get it installed.
this video is amazing! makes me wonder if i really need my otter box defender now. LOL
sprint store i went to today had an htc rep there. i asked him what kinda screen it was. he told me himself that it was gorilla glass 2. i even asked him if he was sure, he said he was. he seems very knowledgable about htc products cuz he answered all my questions even though i already knew the answers
Hmm, this is interesting. So, wouldn't it make sense that if a manufacturer as big and as marketing savvy as HTC was going to sell a flagship phone such as this that came equipped with GG/GG II, they would be advertising it as a selling point? Not trying to troll my own thread but it seems like they've done this in the past with their other phones as well. I wonder why?

You probably got a piece of sand in your pocket, silica/quartz/sand will scratch gorilla glass. Or diamonds, if you are rolling around in those.

Thanks for YouTube link. I watched that AND two about Gnex, both were scratch tests and showed no scratching.
BUT...all 3 vids I watched had user comments saying they (users) had scratched screens,...just from everyday use. And Slayer69 (oh so sadly, sorry bro) already scratched his. Little hard to know what to believe.

In a way it's some sort of a metaphor. Trying to convey that the one X can withstand that much damage to the screen. Something the iphone can't do.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
Most phones with Gorrilla Glass would be able to survive that. It's really strong against straight on impact. If you were to drop it on its side, at an angle, it would crack.
Still pretty impressive to see though.
I think it is the same glass with nokia lumia 900, so, what lumia 900 can do ,also one x can do.
And this is not the cellphone manufactuer's proud, it is the glass manufactuer Corning who make the powerful glass.

See to my mind....scratches on the screen are more of an issue than screen's smashing, because if you drop the phone, scratches will appear on the screen whether you've smashed it or not. Gorilla glass isn't scratch proof its shatter proof (so far)

I bet your phone has Gorilla Glass, go ahead and try it and let us know what happens
You'd have to be pretty confident (or not care about the phone) in order to start banging away.
Ugh fell from couch to carpet and shattered. Heard of this happening a lot. I'm pretty sure phones insured (assurian like 6 Buck amonth?)
Either way....pretty dissapointed that a 600 device is this weak....
Can I talk Verizon into swapping for a dif phone. I like maxx but this build quality is crap. I've dropped other phones and no scratch....
Is it even worth trading for a gnex (assume that's all I'd b able to get)? Any shot of a s3 if I throw like 150 at em?
Thanks guys

That's some bad luck dude!! I dropped mine twice in the past two days and not a scratch. Plus it fell on a hard hospital floor. Do you have a case on it? Either that or that's one hard carpet, I would replace that before you get another 600 dollar device!! That's a huge bummer though. Unfortunately I don't think the carrier is into wheeling and dealing so you may have to get what you get or buy another phone on Craigs list or Ebay.

mine fell off my lap out of an SUV onto my foot which was in motion and accidentally kicked it onto pavement then it skittered 15 feet on it's face underneath another parked car. Zero damage, but in a dual layer"case-mate" case, and with screen protector on also. 30 bucks for the case+protector well spent.
I had the same thing happen to my og razr, i replaced it with the maxx, I think the og razr is to rigid and tends to make the screen more vulnerable to breaking. The maxx has a bit more weight behind the screen. My maxx was run over by a d9 bulldozer (i was ungodly lucky that the ground was soft, and the teeth of the track missed it) with out a scratch, only issue I've noticed is that the magnetic field sensor is stuck which sucks because I'm a land surveyor and a compass on my phone would be very useful.
