I was browsing around Maximum PC, and after I was done I noticed in my notification tray was a downloaded .apk. It was only 12kb in size, and the fact that I didn't intentionally download this, plus the naming scheme, makes me feel like it's possible malware. The features it was asking for was to send SMS, so could it possibly be an SMS spammer?
I've attached it for inspection purposes, as I haven't a clue what I can do with this, and I'm afraid of installing it. Perhaps someone more skilled than me could tell us what it is?

Avast comes up with a warning when trying to see the file and calls the "infection" for "Android:OpFake-AJ [Trj]".
Seems like a virus, so be careful!

I was nearly 'gone'
It's a virus would you kindly remove it as to keep idiots safe? Thanks.

First of all, sorry if I have not asked this in the right place, but couldn't see a section better suited to post this.
I am currently designing some packaging for a new budget 7" Android tablet that will be released soon.
Does anybody know if there is any legal problem with using app icons from well known apps on packaging design?
I wanted to use a large image of the front of the device on the box front and feature a screen showing Mail, Angry Birds, Facebook, Twitter, Skype and Android Market. However I am not sure if this will cause legal problems with these companies and am guessing that trying to contact them direct to ask will not be a quick option (if they indeed answer at all).
Hope somebody can help.
Andy

Okay, sorry!

hello
is there an easy way of identifying which application generates spam messages that appear in the notifications?
sometimes the icon gives it away but not all the time..
Any suggestion?
thank you
Its been mentioned here before so a search will find the exact app name for you but what you need is an app from market called (I think) air push detector as the notifications are ads and it can tell you the app responsible.

hi dave thanks for the reply
yes, i did find one called push ad detect, but that didn't work.
i may try again when / if i get the notification again
thanks for that in the meantime
The app is called air push detector and is by dan borge. If that's the one you tried there is another way and that is to install gemini app manager.
Its free and it can show all apps on your device, it shows icons detailing the features of your system it can use and one of those icons by each app will show if it contains ad related code.
That would tell you all possible apps with ads and at least narrow down your list of suspects quite a bit.

I am in need of a app to help with presentations during youth meetings in my church. I need something along the lines of ipad's keynote + airplay so that powerpoint presentations with notes can be stored and displayed via upnp/dlna from my tablet on our presentation screen- I dont always have time to load the powerpoints to the pc and make the small format changes that always seem to be required when you copy a ppt file to another computer and since the pc has both xbmc and windows media center and the screen has a apple tv something should be doable. If this already exsists please link it 'cuz I have been wearing out search xda and google. In review I need to see thumbnails of my slides and see my notes on the tablet and wirelessly display my slides on the screen.
Not sure what the best option for this is. I will also be looking into this. Right now I just use Evernote on my Android for Wednesday night youth lessons. But I can definitely see the benefit to having something that can give me a presenter view for a slide show... Not sure if there is anything but it would be nice if we could find something or if someone could develop something...

I thank you for enforcing the rules (even hit the thanks buton) but do need to say that you did so in a very rude way.
[begin rant]
I posted in the SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT forum because I was trying to kill two birds with one stone as the saying goes by asking if such software had been developed and if not to maybe give a SOFTWARE DEVELOPER an idea for a SOFTWARE to DEVELOP. Therefore I thought to be encouraging development. I understand that you did not see it this way and respect the rule of the mod - I understand the need for "mod word is law" policy and " iron fist " - I just wish you had done so in a less rude way - maybe explain your reasoning - basicly I'm saying follow the rule that says respect other members- would help keep noobs around so they can learn more and one day contribute back to this community.

This thread should now go back on topic and stay there please.
Anybody have any solutions?
one final bump before i let this thread die.
Bump!
Hello,
Just wondering whether anyone had any ideas on this.
I use a PC at work all day but quite often want to use GTalk to chat to people. Unfortunately my company blocks it so I can't use a browser to chat but obviously I can through my phone.
I used to have an HTC Desire that was rooted so that allowed me to use droidvnc to connect to my phone from my PC via vncviewer using USB(There's no wifi here).
It then meant I could type on my keyboard which makes things a whole lot easier when you're in the middle of something.
Basically now I've gone to an HTC One X I'm just wondering whether there's any app or anything that would let me do the same thing but without rooting the device as I don't want to invalidate any warranties just yet.
So in summary I'm really after a bit of software to let me remote control my phone via USB for the purpose of using GTalk or any other ideas anyone might have to get round it
Thanks

Hello,
I've read quite a bit about the so called silent sms or stealth sms which can be send to your phone to track you down and which do not show up as actual sms received.
I already did an intensive search for an app or something to detect those sms - they have to be recognized by the phone somehow, so there must be a way to get this information and display it to the user doesnt it?
I'm pretty sure there would be plenty of interest for an app like that, but since I have no clue where to start I'm askin here for help.
Is there any tool out there that could achieve this? Are silent sms registered in the Android System at all so that they could be detected?
Hope someone can enlighten me a bit.

discussed this topic with some people in the past. I think you need a baseband change to detect, and most basebands are proprietary
