[GUIDE] Customize your CM before installing - Folio 100 General

Hello,
On Alpha 5, i have performed some tests to create its own CM update.zip incorporating changes before installing it and it works pretty well.
The manipulation is doing on Windows and I have to use this script on this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717437&page=27
This allows:
-delete system apk
-the add-in our
-change the build.prop (name, dpi, ....)
-add the boot.img of botto00 (thanks)
Ultimately creating his update.zip for the holidays
Important: In the script, validate n before creating the update, otherwise it will not work.
A little tutorial is done in French on this link : http://foliowiki.dafun.com/page/PersonnalisationCM9

[ ] "Wake-up" on one "Power button" click
[ ] Fix Bluetooth
[ ] Fix Wi-fi connection
[ ] Fix Wi-fi connection on sleep
[ ] Fix sound crackling
[ ] Update Kernel with loop device support
[ ] Include overclocked CPU boot image to 1.4GHz
[ ] Include Android Linaro stuff
Your work is very interesting!! Thank you for your efforts and congratulations.
This is not the desire that I miss, but my skills are very limited compared to yours, but I continue my research.
Why not offer your work with the CM team?
I do some tests and I am a small report in some time.
PS: If you agree, I will share your work on Foliowiki. Tell me if you have a problem.

This is done in v1.0.0b1:
[√] Fix sound crackling(Need to check again to make more compact .zip)
[√] Include overclocked CPU boot image to 1.4GHz(Not my)
This is need to be done, but I don't have resources for that(New PC,time, knowledge,Linux(again))
[ ] Fix "Wake-up" crash(Kernel)
[ ] Fix screen flashing after sleep(Kernel)
[ ] "Wake-up" on one "Power button" click(Kernel)
[ ] Fix Bluetooth(Kernel)
[ ] Fix Wi-fi connection(Works good, but can be better)
[ ] Fix Wi-fi connection on sleep(Kernel)
[ ] Update Kernel with loop device support(Kernel. Want to try Linux)
[ ] Include Android Linaro stuff(Better this one than Jelly Bean)
For now working on:
Deleting unnecessary .apks.
Trying to make like a "Tab".
Delete unnecessary file(Bluetooth, face recognize and etc).
Make it lighter.
Somehow include tweaks.(Idea was installing ROM through"Restore", but the size is 200-500MB, need more tests.)

Hi Aheros i tried your file but i found some problem:
- installing after a format of data, system, cache, dalwik the launcher crash always. Reinstalling the launcer from store it's work good.
- The sound have a lot of problem. There is the rumor like "click" during playing music. less but there is. and if I turn up the tablet and do not use Music then the tablet went in sleep mode, when I resume the tablet the sound do not work at all.
Otherwise if I use one time the program Music before the sleep mode, whenI resume the sound works good..
For now it's all.
Thanks
Kgerva.

Thanks for review!

I know that crash with launcher, this was when it was included in /data/app folder. I put it in /system/app folder.
Is your .zip of Re-Mod containing/data folder? Please check.
Thanks for the info about sound. On my Folio I don't listen music, only YouTube. I heard sound "knocking" in CM9 A5 when typing keyboard(When sound is on) and watching flash video, so after fix it all gone I thought OK, but after your review I will test Music and sleep, very appreciate .
So, after little exploration I decided to use Nanodroid backup(CWM Recovery backup) to include tweaks. No more info, just saying. Will reply to this thread with info.
Cheers!

Hi Aheros, I have downloaded the .zip from you forum and has data folder.
I make another test. I flashed the original Alpha5 with OC kernel over yours and then I flashed your sound fix.
In this situation I have not click in sound, and after sleep all sound are ok.
So it seems that is a problem in your mod package.
Bye
kgerva

Hello Aheros
This advance, is really not bad :good:
I still need testing but here is what I can tell you :
- installing after a format of data, system, cache, dalwik the launcher crash always. Reinstalling the launcer from store it's work good.

I also had the problem when first installed, after a full wipe, but that ok for the second,
I have no problem with the sound, I alternate Final Fantasy 3 and TuneIn radio, even after several sleepless nights, all is well. (Very few cracks)
The wifi works fine for now.
Bluetooth will not activate.
I have also noticed an improvement on the fluidity of Nova 3, to confirm.....
Great for the GAPPS.

Hi, daveheart14
For now continue here because no big changes was made, but after few releases go for my own post.

It easily takes a liking to your work!
I was already using the modified kernel of Botto00 but on your version, I have not had any problems with the blocking the power off....
The wifi works a little better. I have the impression that he is no longer bugguer.
For the fluidity of Nova 3, I think it comes from ICS. It is a little too resource hungry and I think a little relieving, fewer applications, killing others, and much is gained in fluidity. We can certainly continue
It happened that the sound is completely inaudible, but for sure there is better.
I saw that you work on a second version. Thanks.
PS : I get to your objectives. (compared with my remark with bluetooth)
PS 2: For information, a french boy likes to change the appearance, statusbar, applications, etc. ....
It happens here : http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/113965-rom-alexandroid-40/
PS 3 : I do not see your pictures on your site for the modification of apk

Hi, currently I'm using FolioMod 1.4 because it's best(My opinion) and I have lot non-Android work.
I thinking of some Re-Mods on FolioMod 1.4 and include 4.0.4 features like "Recent Apps". But will see in future.

Good evening Aheros
We are done for us to hear
Right now, I also work on the rom of type 2.2 (in my spare time and with my little experience ) and I'm sure it might interest others.
For now, I am often stuck in the course (which is probably not the best, hihi) but maybe we could help each other, exchange, share, if you agree?

Overall ROM
It's imposible to change "Fix List" stuff without re-makng ROM from scratch. I Re-Moding to make ROM more better, all in one zip, lighter and so on.This is just for the first install, in future you will do "Backup" of your system.
My little review on CM9(4.0.4) and FolioMod 1.4(2.2):
-1-Inferno
-0,5- I can live with it.
+1 - Impressive
+0,5 - Normal
CM9 A5: (-) Crashing(-1), freezing(-1), FC(-0,5), no sleep(-1), 2x power button to wake up(-0,5), need resources(-1), bad launchers screen grid(-0,5), screen responding bad(-1),no sensor buttons(-0,5),after sleep screen is blinking and tablet may crash or reboot during sleep(-1).
CM9 A5: (+) More apps(+0,5), faster re/connect Wi-fi(1), 4.0.4(1), better keyboard with dictionary(1), HD video playback(1), better Flash player(1), virtual button "Recent apps"(1), good text selection,copy&paste menu(0,5), good YouTube(1).
FolioMod 1.4: (-) Very rare SOD on boot with SD(-0,5) , almost not crashing,freezing(-0,5), 2.2(-0,5), very hard HD playback(-1), slow re/connect wi-fi(1), little ugly(Compare to 3.2,4.0.4), "Recent apps" on long Home button press(-1), normal Flash player(-0,5), bad text selection, copy menu(-1), bad YouTube(-1).
FolioMod 1.4: (+) Performance(+1), is required apps(+0,5), good launchers(Holo launcher-BEST :good screen grid(Edge to edge)(+0,5), screen responding much better(+1),is sensor buttons(+0,5), Possible "SLEEP" function(+1).
Overall:
CM9 4.0.4 :
Overall (+) = 8,0
Overall (-) = -8,0
FolioMod 1.4 2.2:
Overall (+) = 4,5
Overall (-) = -7,0
Conclusion: CM9 is ~1,7X better then FolioMod 1.4.But every have its problems.
P.S: Bluetooth was not counted as its is in CM9 releases.(Not actual to me)
P.S: This is MY opinion, it maybe be different from yours. Please comment.
P.S: CM9 needed tweaks like Supercharger v6, so boot time increases(-1).Boot time was not counted. Please comment with tests on CM9.Results will be added.(FolioMod 1.4 boot time 28-30s.(No tweaks and CPU boost)
P.S: If there is more stuff please reply.
Maybe 4.1 will be a miracle, THAT PERFECT ROM.rolleyes:Impossibleeeee)

since people do not pay attention at this FAQ linked in miniCM7 first post,
[*]i decided to create a new thread dedicated to Q&A about miniCM7 and nAa's kernel
this thread is the place of your questions, answers, tips about nAa's kernel and miniCM7 by nAa
so please, as usual, read FAQ, use search option or anything else before asking commonly answered questions
the FAQ will be incremented when needed
the Q&A are in random order
before all the Q&A below : one is most important :
in order to install miniCM7 2.1.X you NOW need :
- to read this upgrade guide
- to read that post
- to unlock your bootloader (see also here)
- to flash nAa's kernel for X10mini, for X8, for x10miniPRO
if not, you will brick your phone. -> read this then, that may help you : !!!!
--> i think it is still too small ...
something else that is useful to read before asking :
Here we (nearly all? XDA members, regardless of being devs or only users [like me], me at least ) don't care about your good/bad English the important is trying to be understood and to understand the content of the threads
only ask things you can't find, or you don't understand, please if you don't understand something in any process tell us exactly where is your problem : it will optimize the answer
sometime rephrasing things can make you understand better, feel free to help us for making the most understandable sentence for anybody
i'm always trying to use a proper English (not so easy for a non native English ^^)
but if there's something misunderstood because of my English your are welcome to correct me
BUT if you don't make the effort to read, I won't make the effort to answer (ok, you can't read everything... but read the minimum )
that's it
Instructions regarding miniCM7-2.1.X installation:
Download the latest all-in-one package from the release link that follows
Backup your /data contents: contacts, apps, sms, etc. or backup via recovery
Move the MiniCM7-xxx.zip to the root folder of your sdcard and rename it to update.zip. Optionally, download the suggested Google Apps for CM7 (check http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/ if you want to experiment with other gapps versions)
Unlock your bootloader, if you haven't already, using the stuff in unlock/ folder. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225 for a nice tutorial
Flash the nAa kernel using Flashtool. To to this:
- Turn off your phone
- Start the Flashtool\X10FlashTool.exe and select Flash. Then select the E10_nAaxxx kernel firmware (this flashes both the kernel.sin and the loader.sin)
- Keep the back button pressed while connecting the usb cable. Flashtool should detect your phone and flash the kernel.
- Once done, disconnect the usb cable and power on the phone.
Once the logo appears, press the back button repeatedly to enter CWM4.x.
- Select 'backup and restore -> Backup'
- Select 'wipe data/factory reset' (SUGGESTED)
- Select 'apply update from sdcard'
- Flash gapps
Reboot (first boot will take ~2 mins)
Once your device has booted, you can navigate to CM Settings -> System -> Update notifications and select 'Register'. This way you can get update notifications on new versions of MiniCM7!

for miniCM9 refer to THIS THREAD PLEASE
for quick search, use ctrl+f and enter keyword, you should find an answer to your question
1/ I can’t see incoming call number, what can I do ?
Change CM Settings -> Lockscreen -> Style options -> Incoming call style choose sliding tabs
2/ my LED is not blinking properly is there any way to change that?
If you’re using miniCM 2.0.5 you must delete delete /system/lib/hw/lights.x10mini.so
If you’re using miniCM 2.0.6 & 2.0.7, 2.1.0,2.1.1, 2.1.2or2.1.3 you must delete /system/lib/hw/lights.robyn.so with rootexplorer or any other file manager that allows you to explore and modify root files
handcent led settings does not work properly with lights.robyn.so
of course, you need to reboot your phone after that.
then : After the restart, go to CyanogenMod settings/Interface/LED notifications/Advanced make sure everything is unchecked, select Reset and then reboot again.
of course, you need to reboot your phone after that.
also try this : go to CyanogenMod settings/Interface/LED notifications/Advanced then tick and untick "random colors" this may solve everything if not :
MarkMRL said:
By ticking and unticking everything a few times randomly, I probably triggered the random flag to update correctly, thus fixing the blinking color. Now I can select a color and have it blink normally.

you can"t delete the file? see q33/
REDELETE AFTER EACH UPDATE if you have the same problem SINCE THE FILE IS REWRITTEN
this Q/A2 is also True for all builds of MiniCM9 and 10
3/I want SE stock keyboard on this ROM !!
Just long press on any txt you’re typing on, “choose input method” then choose default input
4/ I’m already running an older version on miniCM7 (2.0.4 for example) do I have to perform a factory reset/ full wipe ?
There’s no need to factory reset in that case
you may have to perform this to avoid performance issue : here
5/ I’m already running an older version on miniCM6 (1.0.2 for example) do I have to perform a factory reset/ full wipe ?
Yes, absolutely, same as if you were under gingerDX, SE stock rom or any other non miniCM7 based. you will loose ALL your data that are on phone memory (sms/mms, contacts, calendar...) if you're sync to a google account, your contacts and calendar should be preserved
q4/ and q5/ : to upgrade from any version of miniCM below 2.1.X you need an unlocked bootloader, and to flash nAa's kernel !
all is explain in the first lines of this post
6/ how can I activate overclock or undervolt ?
Open CMsettings/performances/CPUsettings/ then tick overclock OR undervolt, undervolt is automatically activated with overclock.
Remember not to tick “set on boot” option if you’re trying frequenies upper than 710 that could make your phone unstable or being damaged.
for miniCM7 2.0.6 you also need to flash the module hotfix to see overclock/undervolt working
no need to install that for 2.0.7, see Q 16/
for nAa07+ and miniCM7-2.1.6+, Open CMsettings/performances/CPUsettings/,
Remember not to tick “set on boot” option if you’re trying frequenies upper than 710 that could make your phone unstable or being damaged.
Since OC is now embedded in kernel, no module to enable (so OC option disappeared!), if you want to OC only, just choose the freq, if you want to undervolt too, tick undervolt option !
7/ i'm actually using Xrecovery can i install miniCM7 directly ?
no, you can't, you first need to install clockworkmod recovery from the link given in the first post (put in on the root of your sd card, then reboot to recovery, "install custom zip", reboot : cwm recovery is now installed, you can flash this ROM )
8/ i can't download some apps from the market
download 'market enabler' and select T-mobile Usa as fake provider, then retry to search and download them. that should work
9/ random problems that are unknown for anyody?
reflash the rom, i.e. reinstall the rom zip trough recovery
&/or
first backup, then do a factory reset, or restart from the beginning, it could solve lots of problem (you will loose ALL your data that are on phone memory (sms/mms, contacts, calendar...) if you're sync to a google account, your contacts and calendar should be preserved)
you may have to perform this to avoid performance issue : here
10/ i own a X10miniPRO (u20i) does this ROM suites to this phone?
NO,No, and No this ROM is ONLY for X10mini (e10i/e10a) not for any other phone [a version is also available for X8, in the X8 section.]
edit : there is a version for minPRO available here so the ROM suites to X10mini, X8 and X10miniPRO in their respective version
11/ my battery is draining so fast ... what should i do ?
first calibrate your battery by fully charging your phone, then reboot into recovery, select Advanced/Wipe Battery Stats and then unplug and reboot
if there's no improvement so far
- see if there's app running always in the background
- look in CyanogenMod settings/Interface/LED notifications/Advanced make sure radom is not ticked
12/ i have installed minicm7 when i power on the phone it stuck on cyanogen 7 logo. what should i do.
does your phone comply to the conditions of the first post ?
if yes and if you can access to CWMrecovery, then reflash the rom and/or factory reset (you will loose ALL your data that are on phone memory (sms/mms, contacts, calendar...) if you're sync to a google account, your contacts and calendar should be preserved)
if not or if you can't access to CWM use Sony Ericsson Update Service to recover your phone as if it was out of the box (you will loose ALL your data that are on phone memory (sms/mms, contacts, calendar...) if you're sync to a google account, your contacts and calendar should be preserved)
13/ in the default input method, when i scroll down/up the "-,?,!,@,_ ..." & emoticons menu until it stops itself, the keyboard remains froozen
rotate your screen and this will be fixed, and don't scroll this violently
14/ app2SD and other features aren't working with 2.0.6, why is that?
for miniCM7 2.0.6 you also need to flash the module hotfix to see all the modules working (oc; uv; app2sd...)

no you don't : each hotfix is specific of each version
"module hotfix" was for 2.0.6 not 2.0.7
17/ where are market, gmail and other google apps ????
you seem not have read carefully the first post : you need to flash gapps via CWM after flashing the ROM in order to use google services!

there is an app2sd storing to FAT feature.

I reply to myself after getting help from matmutant.
I was looking for two different things: Getting the Sony Ericsson menu to the market, and enabling the Road Sync app that's free for SonyEricsson X10 mini users
To enable the SonyEricsson market, you need to edit the /system/build.prop file. Please be careful when you edit the file. If you mess up the file, you might get a phone that you can't boot (this can be fixed, cause i messed up a couple fo times I explain this later).
You can either just change the keys, or do like below: comment the old values with a # as the first char on the row, and write the new below.
Code:
#ro.com.google.clientidbase=android-google
ro.com.google.clientidbase=android-sonyericsson
ro.com.google.clientidbase.yt=android-sonyericsson
ro.com.google.clientidbase.am=android-sonyericsson
ro.com.google.clientidbase.vs=android-sonyericsson
ro.com.google.clientidbase.gmm=android-sonyericsson
For enabling the RoadSync app (or i guess any other app that want's to verify that it's running on a real SE-phone), then do these changes:
Code:
#ro.product.model=X10mini
#ro.product.brand=SE
#ro.product.name=robyn
#ro.product.device=robyn
#ro.product.board=robyn
ro.product.model=E10i
ro.product.brand=SEMC
ro.product.name=E10i_1237-0392
ro.product.device=SonyEricssonE10i
ro.product.board=delta
#ro.product.manufacturer=SE
ro.product.manufacturer=Sony Ericsson
As I mentioned earlier, i messed up the /system/build.prop file at one point. To get this fixed, i just rebootet into recoverymode, and mounted /system. After this i could use adb (found in the android-sdk) to copy back an corrected build.prop (./adb push build.prop /system/build.prop)
I had also an other issue with the android-market app. It crashed and got stuck a couple of times, so i fixed this by uninstalling the recent update from manage applications->All->Market.
I hope my changes don't break anything for the CM7, so please if you know that CM7 needs any of these keys i changed in build.prop, then please inform me

my phone is laggy with 2.1.0 and crashes when screen goes off

To everyone who has the lockscreen crashing problem, just disable it.

23/ offline charging doesn't work, and my phone boots instead when i plug it to charge, why?
for 2.1.0, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3,2.1.4 & 2.1.5 there is no offline charging due to kernel+cwm (not implemented yet ?), as a result, the phone boots up
fixed with nAa kernel07+miniCM7-2.1.6 !

in that case :
DaRk_dOg said:
I think that this is a common issue with CM7 and not just MiniCM7 (I experienced it on my DHD too).
Here is a small workaround for now:
Before sending the mms, disable data traffic, then enable it again and then send your mms.
You have to do it every time, before an mms but it is working for me.

you now can edit the files
34/ if you disabled the bootanimation, the first boot after applying update will seem to be VERY VERY VERY long with a black screen. don't be afraid

supercharger optimization that can be usefull :
before updating to newer miniCM,
unsupercharge,
delete supercharger backups and
update to the new miniCM,
then resupercharge if you want
if you don't do that, you may experience some tricky problems if unsupercharging newer miniCM !
if you didn't, ofc don't complain about performance problem
SuperCharger v6 update9-RC1 ONLY for SuperCharger v6 update9 6.2.2 see the middle/end of this post!
first optimization:
1 Download SCRIPT MANAGER FROM MARKET
2 Go to this thread and download SuPERCHARGER SCRIPT 6 update9-RC1
3 Open program, load the script, Tick option run as ROOT.
in program dialog, type "1(fast)" and "enter"
4 answer properly to asked questions by the script !!
5 In main Dialog, type "4" "super UL (aggressive)" and "enter"
6 type 30 (exit) and then "enter" -->at the top you see: running becoming exit code0
7 press "close" (it was "kill" while the script was running)
8 reboot
9 now your phone uses supercharger, you don't need to run it again
another one that seems to be better for our phone (since miniCM7-2.1.3) :
another opti : (i tested and approve this to be somewhat working )

40/ why do i have an annoying pop up asking for unlock key when i boot up my phone?
ferotakis said:
after little talk with one my friend we figure it out why in some provider is asking this code and in some not( like my case)
The reason is: This ROM is not legal I mean the original one from the Sony who before opening to users in theirs regions firs will be sent to operators , operators check it and then when you use for example Vodafone.de Vodafone.de if aprove the Sony ROM send a notification to users for a update is ON. When users updates their phone with the operator passed ROM they can be ''seen'' by the operator what type of phone with what type ot Android they are use and can send them auto setings like the APN MMS and etc.
If you want see the truelles of this just call your operator and ask them for auto APN . Try it if you have x10 mini with stock rom and with x10 mini with this one
In firs one operator say you : Ok i see in system you are using x10 mini vith android 2.1 i will send you the setings . But with this room she/he ask you what type of phone do you use bicoz I cant see it on system.
This is same wit the automated operator menus too : when you pres 4 (for example ) in voice menu and ask for a auto internet setings the autovoice say sorry we not support you phone yet will try again later.
This is not big deal for now bicoz the most of operators APN is already configuret but if you use operator who is not includet you cant use mobile data bicoz you not have APNs.
That is wy this code is asking for when you put some of providers sim some of them make theirs system in that way ... its more easy for them but for us is just annoing popup window

Here's a brief explanation for A2SD/DC2SD/Swap:
A2SD/DC2SD only makes sense if you have /data that is over 200MB i.e. many apps.
Swap is useful if you need to run memory-hungry apps or wanna have more apps loaded in memory.
Any size for swap should be good depending on your needs (e.g. 128MB). To verify a2sd is loaded, run df via adb shell. It should show /data/app and /data/app-private mounted in /sd-ext.
Also /data/dalvik-cache should be mounted to /sd-ext/dalvik-cache if DC2SD is chosen.
To verify swap is used, try the command 'free' via adb shell.
None of the above are for the everyday/novice users. You have to know what you are doing.

[KERNEL][RAY - 4.0.2.A.0-Overclock] [Rel: v0.13][Dt: 19/Dec/2011]

NOTE: This will probably no longer be maintained. It was the result of me playing around with the kernel from scratch instead of trying to understand what changes others have made and why they had made them! Now I'm a little more confident I'll probably be using DooMLoRD's kernel as a base for any changes I make to the Ray: [Kernel] [Ray] DooMLoRD's Kernel for Ray
hartej said:
Been playing around with Kernel development and created an overclocked kernel for the 4.0.2.A.0 stock Rom.
There's nothing too speciall in it at the moment, but lets you overclock the Ray to 1.9Ghz using the source released by SE and the modified CPU steps that IF2 posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165355
There's no custom bootloader/Clockwork mod and no additional governers (at the moment) although I may add these in future as I learn more.
It seems to work well enough, and everything seems to be working as standard. I experience random lock-ups at 1.9 and occasionally 1.8Ghz, especially when it goes into/out of sleep when the screen turns off. Lower frequencies seem stable though.
This is released as-is, I'm using it myself but I can't be held responsible for any instabilities or failures you might experience. Just thought it might be of use to some people.
The new .img file can be downloaded from here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17615284/4.0.2.A.0-V0.13-2011-12-18.img
Alternatively, I've posted a version of the DooMLoRD kernel for the Ray which has a ton more features. This can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400121
To install just use fastboot in the usual way. To return to stock, extract kernel.sin from the official update image using WinZip/WinRar etc and flash using fastboot again.

I'll post any updates here from now on.
Changelog:
19/12/2011 - V0.13 - As people have quite rightly pointed out, V0.12 boots at 1.8GHz as default, which causes multiple reboots. I hadn't noticed this as I had SetCPU reduce it to 1GHz as soon as the system started. The only change to this version is to have it boot at 1GHz as default, it's up to the user to increase it themselves.
28/10/2011 - V0.12 - Added Clockwork Recovery v5.0.2.6 (Spam Vol[-] when phone starts up, use volume keys to navigate, home to select, back for back)
28/10/2011 - V0.11 - Started playing with the Ramdisk - as a first start I've made it rootable. Things like "Adb remount" work now.
26/10/2011 - V0.1 - intial release
Current version:

V0.13 can be downloaded here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17615284/4.0.2.A.0-V0.13-2011-12-18.img

get new kernel~nice
tested it works really cool
thanks!!!!!
Like it...
thanks
Glad to see the "Recovery option" is available.
I tested v0.11+OC 1.3Ghz -> no problem.
However, v0.12+OC 1.2 or 1.3 -> keep on rebooting.
v0.12+no OC (use default 1Ghz) -> no problem.
im on 012+oc 1.5mhz, still working well....
great works!
great work, thx for your efforts
the included cwm is it dooms latest?

"[v12 onwards] modified recovery to support /sd-ext backup/restore (remember /sd-ext has to be the 2nd partition on ur sdcard [mmcblk0p2] for this to work)"
if it is not I think that would be usefull with ext support, now you can use a2sd for xperia, bu it is not possible to make nand backup bcs cwm dit not recognize ext partition.
can you add donation possibility, would like to support your work
Thank you a thousand times! :d
2 questions though:
- I have to reroot my phone after this?
- Do I have to rename the download to boot.img?
Thanks 4 sharing!!!
-No
-No

It's not the latest I'm afraid so I doubt the ext backup would work. I'll see what I can do for the next release when I get a chance.
At some point I was also going to see if it's possible to change the MTD partition structure to give more space to /data. At the moment adb reports:
Code:
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/block/mtdblock0 400.0M 241.8M 158.2M 60% /system
/dev/block/mtdblock3 420.0M 270.3M 149.7M 64% /data
This means that there's over 150MB of 'free' space in system that could be given over to the data partition instead of being effectively lost. May or may not be possible - don't know enough about the system yet.
As for donations - this is as much a learning experience for me than anything else, and at the moment I'm mostly applying things that others have done instead of making any breakthroughs myself so I wouldn't feel happy taking donations, but the thought is appreciated.

You'll have to put it into fastboot mode by powering on and holding Vol[+], then flash using "Fastboot flash boot <filename>" - you can rename it or not, provided the <filename> part matches. You shouldnt have to reroot.

That's strange, i've got it overclocked to 1.5Ghz and it seems to be really stable. As far as I'm aware the only change I made between the two was adding clockwork - there shouldn't be any other difference... I'll look into it.
Double reboot only 10 min after flashing and without changing frequencies..

Do you use SetCPU ? (I use SetCPU 2.2.4)
What's the parameters did you use to OC 1.5Ghz ?
"ondemand" ? "powersave" ? "performance" ? or ?
Currently I changed back to V0.11. (it's stable for me)

Yup, think I'm on 2.14 though - I doubt this would make a difference but its possible I guess.
I leave everything as-is (So ondemand governor) but reduce the min to 122MHz and increase max to 1.5GHz. Still confused as to why the previous version is more stable for some, but I'll have a look at the differences.
hi! thank you for this kernel.

Tried 0.12 and was really happy there´s clockwork for my ray But I have to go back to stock kernel. v0.12 randomly freezes and then reboots (btw. ray gets hot untill reboot).
I didn´t overclock and use rooted 4.0.2.A.0.42.

[ROM] Degu release archos gen7/gen8 CM7 gingerbread (update 27-01-2013)

A new release is ready the final Degu.
For both gen7/8 you will need to flash the latest zImage and initramfs included in the download links. <-- not needed if you already have flashed the latest with Crow. no changes in kernel or initramfs for Degu release.
Also to be sure you will need to delete your data.img and let it create a new one or copy your own if you use an image more then 256mb.
For setting up your device look here http://dev.openaos.org/wiki/AndroidInstall_CM7_Gingerbread
Links updated crow release 27-01-2013
For gen7:
http://www.openaos.org/wp-upload/gen7/2013-01-27/
For gen8:
http://www.openaos.org/wp-upload/gen8/2013-01-27/
If you have any issus post them by creating a new ticket see http://dev.openaos.org/wiki/IssueTracking on howto.
Known issues are here: http://dev.openaos.org/wiki/AndroidTicketsFor2.3
If it works well or you have issues you can also leave a reply.
BTW camera should partly work on gen8, tested on a 101IT taking photos. Video recording will freeze the app. Not tested with apps that use the cam only with the included camera app.
A43IT has a different camera, so I don't know if it will work.
Thanks,

Degu final (27-01-2013)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Changelog:
- Smoother youtube video playback for gen8
- More apps in the market available for gen7 and gen8 (also thanks to utopik for this)
- Internal storage should now properly display free available memory for gen7 and gen8
- Fixed bookmark for gapps in the browser for gen7 and gen8
- Overal speed improvement.
Unfortunately you will need a fresh data.img to let these fixes take effect.
Crow final (25-12-2012)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First don't forget to flash he new zImage (kernel) and initramfs it is in the archive kernel_gen7_20120512_114451.tar.gz for gen7 and kernel_gen8_20120409_002900.tar.gz for gen8 unpack it (with winrar if you are on windows) and only use "zImage" and "initramfs.cpio.gz"
Changelog see http://www.openaos.org/archives/821
Bull final (09-04-2012)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First don't forget to flash he new zImage (kernel) and initramfs it is in the archive kernel_gen7_20120512_114451.tar.gz for gen7 and kernel_gen8_20120409_002900.tar.gz for gen8 unpack it (with winrar if you are on windows) and only use "zImage" and "initramfs.cpio.gz"
Only for gen7: If you flash the new kernel and initramfs also delete the old menu.lst when it is there. If you have custom lines in there add them later after you first booted in the new menu.lst that is created.
Only for gen8: If you first boot the image it happens sometimes that omap_vout isn't loaded correctly this means it can't create the overlay for playback video and uses the software renderer. If you just reboot it is ok. It only happens atleast to me on the very first boot.
Some improvements first the kernel and initramfs:
- Correct orientation of the bootmenu for A101IT
- Updated the kernel with latest archos GPL release which means that the ones with broken USB host on their A101IT it gets working again when booting stock through the bootmenu.
- For gen7 updated initramfs to match the one from gen8
- Added unionfs support, so you can have root with rw access on stock android.
Improvements on Gingerbread:
- smoother camera because of using the overlay to display the stream. Known issues: - display is cropped so you don't see the whole camera - Recording still doesn't work.
- Youtube app works.
- Hardware accelerated video for atleast youtube app and some mp4 files, maybe more if someone can test some different formats that would be nice. Rotation does work for youtube app, there are still some issues when rotating playing a regular mp4.
- On gen8 you can also play hw accelerated flash videos in the browser now, of course not all pages will work.
- wifi location should work now. <-- same for gen7
- Fix not enough storage when installing apps by moving /cache also to the data.img. <-- same for gen7
- Update to latest CM code. <-- same for gen7
RC2 (24-12-2011)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This will be the final Bull release or there must be some major bugs discovered in the next few days.
There is now a new feature added (thanks to illifant). The data is now in a separate image "data.img" if it is not there it will be auto created. 256 MB is standard. You can replace it with a bigger one from the download link gen8_data.img.tar.bz2.
If you unpack with for example winrar you see three images 256MB, 512MB, 1024MB just pick a size and copy that to the root of your archos. Rename it to "data.img"
As mentioned you don't have todo this if you want to use 256MB that will be created automaticly.
All your data, apps and gapps are in data.img. So on a next upgrade you won't have to reinstall everything again.
Also the size of the actual image is reduced, for gen7 it is 180MB and for gen8 256MB.
Don't forget to flash the new zImage (kernel) and initramfs it is in kernel_gen7_20111224_181411.tar.bz2 for gen7 and kernel_gen8_20111224_213037.tar.gz for gen8 unpack it with winrar and only use "zImage" and "initramfs.cpio.gz"
(if not specified otherwise the fixes are for gen7 and gen8)
Gingerbread Image:
- Deep sleep improved, however to work properly keep adb disabled. (it is now disabled by default.)
- Charging A43 for USB and wall charger is fixed (gen8)
- External sd-card is now mounted on /mnt/storage/sdcard (same as on archos firmware).
- Updated with latest CM code.
- New modules from updated kernel build (gen8)
- Other small fixes see the closed tickets.
zImage and initramfs.cpio.gz:
- Initramfs script updated, if it fails it will now display an error message instead of just rebooting.
- Kernel updated to latest archos firmware (2.4.81) kernel (gen8)
RC1 (06-11-2011)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Somethings that are changed since anoa release:
(if not specified otherwise the fixes are for gen7 and gen8)
- Fixed headphone speaker switch
- partly camera working for atleast A101IT I think also A70, don't know for A43IT because it has a different cam. (gen8)
- Fixed permission errors when using ext3 formatted internal memory
- Fixed some browser crashes. Due to using v8 javascript engine again instead of jsc
- Fixed crash when going to browser settings
- Fixed deep sleep which should be working now.
- Fixed mounting/unmounting external sdcard.
- Calibration app included for A32 and A43. (Under settings)
- Updated to latest CM code
- Kernel updated to latest sources from archos firmware 2.4.65
- Fixed correct rotation for A101, only bootmenu is still upsidedown.
- GPS working for gen7 devices
- some other small things
Tips:
1) Playing youtube videos on CM fail with standard player http://pastebin.com/YAZc0z74 , but can be done with mobo player or mx player by using for example opera mobile and setting the user agent to desktop.
i'll give it a try now

You are right, something went wrong with the upload of the zImage, if you check md5sum it is wrong. I will post when it is fixed. Should be soon.

EDIT: zImage is fixed now if you already downloaded it just redownload
hey - great to hear about further development - sadly the gen8 links seems to be down ...
www.openaos.org/wp-upload/gen8/2011-11-06/ReleaseCandidate_UNSUPPORTED/
Error: Connection interrrupted
Perrhaps just partial - will try again later
EDIT: working now again
After choosing "Gingerbread-Entry" in Aos-Menu my 101 shortly shows the "openaos"- Bootlogo and then reboots in Archos-Standard.
What is wrong?? I used all files from the Link mentioned above.
Any ideas?
P.S: Reload of the files is not possible because it seems like openaos.org is down ;-(
We are having some issues with dev.openaos.org which will hopefully soon be solved.
The problem you have is a corrupted zImage. It should be fine now once you can redownload it.
Sorry for the inconvenience,

hey divx - do we have any working way of dualboot urukdroid and Cyanogen?
For me this is the major reason for less contribution on openAOS - as i need a working stable device for dialy use - but also really want to help u with cyanogen...
Searched for it some time ago already but due to the different kernels this was really hard to figure out...
anyway will try yours again now and check out the new release

Unfortunately not, maybe in the future when we can boot different kernels. We just follow the archos kernel sources with some minor additions to also allow booting of other linux distros. We want however always be able to boot stock android with our kernel which gives you btw root access, because of using unionfs.
I don't know how much difference there is between the urukdroid kernel and ours never looked at it.

So far it is running smooth. Great job guys.
I noticed 3 things so far.
1) my speakers make a "pop" sound when the device goes into and comes out of sleep. They also did that in Anoa.
2) I can swipe between the different home screens OK, but if I try to use the desktop dots next to the dock then ADW force closes.
3) Camera worked great the first time, then the second time I went back in it, it is green and gray colored. Tried changing the color effect settings of the camera and it looks the same every time. Rebooting fixed the greenish look and I have been in it multiple times now and it is staying normal so not sure what caused it the first time.

1) I was incorrect about my speakers popping in Anoa, they crackled in that, so the pop I think is an improvement
2) that's good news. I don't use the dots as I prefer to swipe, I just accidentally click one and that is how I found out.
3)I have an A70 8GB. I'm not sure what would have caused it, I have not been able to reproduce it since rebooting the device.

Don't tell me whats wrong with it (i already know that) Tell me how to fix it!
Here's my sources to get you started:
I have set up an organization on git hub where you can follow the progress
https://github.com/ics-passion-dev
[Note:] I am updating these regularly.
Get source (cm ics repos)
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/ics-passion-dev/android.git -b ics
repo sync
Fix Audio.
Code:
cd hardware/msm7k
git fetch http://review.cyanogenmod.com/p/CyanogenMod/android_hardware_msm7k refs/changes/03/10303/1 && git cherry-pick FETCH_HEAD
Build it.
Code:
. build/envsetup.sh
lunch full_passion-userdebug
mka
Note: The above is not enough to get a clean build you will need to debug some minor errors.
On amd hexacore w/ 12gb ram takes 40 minutes. (where CM7 takes 14)

Head phone jack does not work yet. plays through speaker while plugged in.
added back all apps but VideoEditor and its libs and Camera
added back all ringtones and notifications
switched back to userdebug build
No gapps: Sorry. They were deleted when i rebased my tree. But they had issues anyway. So not bothering with them on this release.
gralloc's back (hence the lag) Disabling animation in developer settings helps.
3g seems to start the connect/disconnect thing after a while of non use. fix is either reboot. or go into setting and disable mobile data for a minute then turn it back on.
Alpha5: Link to Alpha5
switched from userdebug to eng variant
got su back and some bluetooth files (still broke for me)
removed most sounds (ringtones, notifications) to save some space

Leave out gralloc since we dont have HW Acceleration yet.
Alpha2:Link to Alpha2 as a flashable zip
changed ro.sf.lcd_density to 220 to fix softkeys
build with gralloc: kind of makes it laggy if it bothers you delete /system/lib/hw/gralloc.qsd8k.so (but not gralloc.default.so)
Working:
Calling: (mic works they can hear you)
Sound/Mic: sort of (thanks to tip from rapmv78 and the Desire guys)
Gps: I think (might just be googles location features even though its unchecked in settings)(tested by visiting maps.google.com in browser with wifi off)
Not Working:
3g: still very sporadic (a few reboots fixes it somtimes)(maybe i need to update to latest radio)
Home button
Trackball
Alpha1: Link to Alpha1 as system.img and boot.img
Migrate source to CM repos
Using ICS init (alpha0 used CM7)
Pershoots CM7 2.6.38.8 Kernel
Added Soft Buttons to give us a working home button (although this causes the bottom row of the keyboard to be half way covered up) You can fix this by changing ro.sf.lcd_density to 220 or 200 in /system/build.prop
Not working:
3g (severe connect/disconnect issues)
Audio
Home button
Trackball
Some other stuff I can't remember

I would really like to help you. And I am also very excited about having ICS running on my nexus one. I'm a java developer. Please let me know if I would be useful building ICS on nexus one?
Thanks.
Update:
Bluetooth is working: I can pair my logitech dinovo keyboard to it and navigate.
Wifi is scanning but not connecting to wpa.
No progress on touchscreen acting like a trackpad. Upside multitouch works.
Did you manage to get GL acceleration working?
Does this help for the touchscreen issue? The touchscreen was working well on the SDK port

Just use the IDC file from my SDK port.

mms works
Great news! I wish I could help somehow. Why don't you collaborate with drew garen? I'm sure he could help you.
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using XDA App
this is awesome work , have you tried contacting any of the developers or contributors from TeamDouche ... they may help you to resolve any issues !!
Have you try to contact @drewgaren to ask him which trick did he use to correct the problems he was having with first sdk port?
Maybe he can share some drivers file which can be helpful.
Thanks for all the work you put in this DEV.
F.
Wow! Great initiative guys, good luck and hope move developers can contribute.
amazing work guys
I've since upgraded from an N1 but still use it to play around with builds so if you need testers i'd be more than happy to help!
great work
keep going
Keep Going guys, i wish i can help but i have no idea about developing at all.
Need help?
If you need help on development work, I might be able to help. I am also a Java developer. Thanks and keep up with the good work!

would a nexus 9 be really slow now?

Hi, I'm looking for a cheap tablet for web browsing and watching videos. was thinking of picking up a used nexus 9 for about $70. I know older devices run slow I guess cause of aging ram that doesn't perform as well as it use to. I'm wondering if it would be slow or would it perform like it was when it was newer?
One word answer. Maybe!
slightly longer answer. As long as it`s still used regularily the n9 is a ideal tablet. Battery may need replacing and an upto date rom is a must. Mine still holds its own 5 years on.
quit a bit slow. last year i used it to study. I think It should be upgrading to 4Gb memory

I ended up buying one on ebay last night. probably keep the stock rom on it but remove forced encryption.
For this price is a good device...yes, it can run yet well (in my opinion, the ram memory was the problem on this device)
_N9, for run better and perform better,my opinion is: Remove forced encryption / Install FireIce kernel / Install Gov-Tuner Project / some build.prop tweaks - Stay in stock rom,it works more stable than any custom rom...(only Slim Stable 7.1.2.build.2.0 works very fine)
Slim Rom downloads: https://slimroms.org/#/download
(you can remove some applications, which are not used frequently and consuming pores from the system)
* because of a little ram on this device,we only install the necessary applications! stay away especially from social applications, like facebook etc..

Can I use nexus root toolkit to remove forced encryption on my nexus 9 running android 7.1.1? I notice where it says select the android build you are currently running, mine isn't there. is it safe to use the "any build" option. and follow the directions in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFVpr6IoL-Q&feature=emb_title

the Rootjunky in video he knows well & has experience ...BUT ! Look at the title of video carefully ...Says "Lollipop data Encryption"...your android version is N
also, this video is from 2014 ! therefore, very old file
So,my opinion is : you can use TWRP & DM-VERITY & FORCEENCRYPT DISABLER file + magisk (or su) , very easy... - recommended

It's not complicated at all.... you just start with the right series - right way
1-unlock bootloader
2-Install TWRP
3- Install slim stable 7.1.2 - [ Nano Gapps /disable encrypt/ magisk (or su) ]
4- Flash FireIce kernel
5-Flash Gov-Tuner (download Universal Init.d Injector & kernel sepolice patcher(or better The SELinux Switch) to change SeLinux to permissive( https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-selinux-switch-t3656502 )
,download kernel adiutor from playstore & use it, etc...
It takes a little time, but no need hurry of course

I did steps 1 and 2, then I installed fed patcher v8. but I'm not sure if it worked. heres a screenshot. also I ran this adb command "adb shell getprop ro.crypto.state" and it said its encrypted.
I wiped everything except the system partition before flashing fed patcher. after some research, I think I'm suppose to use the format data option?

It looks like your device hasn't decrypted...
I know well fed patcher & I've used it in the past on N9...BUT! personally I choose Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt.... (this is just my opinion and nothing else)
anyway , you must read carefully in fed patcher OP > "How do I use it?" & "What do I need to make this work?"
.... and just, follow the instructions..I think it will work without any problems
For any questions about "fed patcher" you will ask in the thread before doing anything on the device !!

I figured it out, had to format data.
I haven't touched encryption, used ADB though to reduce installed apps ( for user 0 ) to 65, old nexus 9 more responsive & can be left on for days at a time whilst idle, more RAM available for user too. Also, all those removed apps aren't trying to 'phone home' with Telemetry now. Used for browsing & downloading movies it's perfectly acceptable.:good:
